Mac's Speech Shop is one of the newer barbecue eateries in the Concord Mills area, but they are quickly becoming one of the best and well known go to barbecue spots on any night of the week. The atmosphere is live and there's excitement in the air! Mac's is doing something big, but this type of notoriety comes with the price and you'll see that once you arrive because Mac's is usually crowded; but in their defense you are usually seated within 15 minutes and the food is worth the wait. There's plenty of options to choose from on the menu, from full out barbecue dishes including ribs and pulled pork to, chicken dishes, quesadillas, the house fave's tacos. They also have a nice selection of beers on tap to go with your meal. Mac's has a few choices on the dessert menu, but be warned we ordered the peach cobbler and it had way too much cinnamon in it. read more

Met family for a birthday celebration on a Tuesday night. We enjoyed great beers with delicious guac and chips with cheese dip. We got the shrimp taco and brisket taco. Both were good, but the shrimp was absolutely fantastic. Nate, our waiter, was awesome. He recognized that we were celebrating birthdays and brought free desserts to my wife and her brother who were both celebrating birthdays. We had a great time. I really like the open air design of the restaurant, especially on a nice day. I was surprised to see how many more beers they have in bottles and cans vs. draft. I got the quarter dark smoked chicken with the dry rub and it was very sad looking. I guess most cover in in sauce so it doesn't really matter. I acknowledge that collard greens are hard to get right and they didn't. The side salad was actually quite ample and I had enough to share. I am a frequent visitor to Mac's, but primarily to the locations in Charlotte. So when I saw one was opening in Concord - I had to go. Now I'm not quite sure how long this location has been opened, but it has not been long. They still have hiring signs out front and you're able to tell it is understaffed from the service received. Now keep in mind, this was a Tuesday night. Whilst the server is not completely at fault due to management understaffing and hostess over seating, but this was enough to push me to make this post. We didn't have to wait to be seated but it took a moment to get our drink orders. Drinks were taken by one server and we never saw her again, then delivered by a completely different server. Food was ordered and we waited a bit, but again - as a recently opened restaurant- this is to be expected. My issues comes from drinks sitting empty, beers being ordered and never served. This is just a lack of support for the serving team and lack of communication between the team. The food, when it came, was fantastic. We had a pulled pork plate, a fried chicken sandwich and plenty of other food. The food is no issue. Moving forward for this location, I think the best way to excel in this industry is to ensure focus remains on the consumer regardless of the level of business. Will not be my last time coming to this location- just hoping they're able to get to the appropriate staffing levels for nightly service. read more

Fun ambiance. Not great service. I went with a party of 7. Most liked their meal ... Noone thought it was great. My brisket was by far the toughest meat I had ever had. The waitress saw that I did not eat my meal and purposefully ignored me. Shame on me for not stopping her to tell her the brisket was like shoe leather. Thank goodness for the side of Mac n cheese because that was very good. My son's fries were very good as well. Oh and he said the burger was good. I rarely write anything negative but the service on top of my bad brisket was worthy of only 3 generous stars. I will likely try again another time in hopes for a better experience. UPDATE. On my visit to The Great Wold Lodge, me and the family was looking for somewhere to eat. We decided to try Mac's. Service was good and the ambiance was good. Food portions here are very small. Also I personally didn't like that I asked if they offered military discount and only my meal was discounted, not the check that I covered for my spouse and kids. Overall an okay place. Stopped in to try there new location by mall, what a nice spot! Friendly staff, great service, food was fast and great! We had the chicken nachos which where some great nachos. Just needed some extra jalapeños and maybe a little extra cheese.. but tons of meat and great flavor. The salsa is great on them!! Then had the wings with buffalo sauce and ranch. They were Smokey and grilled they honestly were some of the best tasting wings I've had! I loved being able to use my fork and just pull them apart and not getting messy. Wow amazing wings! Yum! We went here recently while visiting NC during an off hour around 2pm. All of the adults in our party got chopped brisket sandwiches. I got the mac and cheese as my side. We also got an order of pork rinds to share. The brisket was so tender, delicious, smoky but not overly smoked, and on a nice, fresh bun. The mac and cheese... oh, the mac and cheese. Let's just say it is a good thing that I don't live nearby b/c that mac and cheese is dangerous. The pork rinds were super tasty, not oily at all, and the sauce they are served with was a nice compliment to the pork rinds. The ambiance was super relaxed and cute which I love. Last but not least was our super sweet server, Patience. Patience was helpful with suggestions, super nice, and very sweet with my baby. We had a decent dinner there. This isn't about the food or service but the misleading special pricing. They had a special for Monday night game day with 1/2 price specialty burgers. Great, I ordered one. When the ticket came it wasn't discounted. I asked why and was informed that was only "during the game." There was nothing noted that this was only during game time nor what game they were talking about. I assume Monday night football but a soccer game was on their TV and it's Monday night. I chose not to fight it and just paid. I probably won't return. Check with your server before ordering any daily specials. read more

We were looking for a place for barbecue around the Concord Mills area. There are several options to choose from (e.g. Jim 'N Nick's B-B-Q and Sonny's), and we decided to check out Mac's Speed Shop. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated and experienced great service and food. Camden, the waitress, was professional, courteous and efficient. Tom, the manager, stopped by the table to check in with us regarding the food and service. The atmosphere is laid back and the decor gives a nod to the Carolinas. I had the Hickory-Smoked Pull Pork BBQ Sammie (lil' pig) with fries and peach cobbler. While I didn't care for the peach cobbler, the sammie and fries were tasty (especially when paired with your choice of bbq sauce). We (family of 4) were seated quickly on a Sunday evening, our server was there almost right away ready to take our drink order. We ordered burnt ends and they were ready so quickly. Chopped brisket sandwich was terrible. Brisket was dried out and chewy and the fried onions on the sandwich were also chewy. My son ordered chicken and waffles and it plainly said on the menu above that it comes with two sides and then the waitress said oh well that item doesn't come with two sides even though it clearly stated right above that it did . I am a big fan and patron of Mac's but this location, Concord Mills fails all the time. Early afternoon Saturday and restaurant was half empy and obvious not enough servers. We sat outside and needed to be in the shade and both outdoor umbrellas were broken. It took 20 minutes for server to bring a beer after the rest of the table had their soft drinks. Food was 40 minutes and remember the restaurant was half full. Server was so slow I ordered two beers so I wouldn't have to wait, she forgot. Order came with no fries because they were not ready with the meal and chicken on one salad was overcooked. Mac's is getting ready to celebrate a big anniversary but this is one location needs so serious management review. This is a perfect example of why Bar Rescue is so popular. read more

Now that my husband is a vegetarian I always look for those food options amongst my fav restaurants because in this day and age, we need someone who can feed everyone. No veggie entrees but a ton of sides that will do the trick. Mac and Cheese was surprisingly good and I'm a picky Mac and cheese eater. Most places just get it wrong but Mac is one of the few that got it right. Collard greens was delish. Potato salad was NOT IT, cut into cubes and weirdly colored. Pulled pork was a decent serving for their "small" and worth the price. Everyone has deviled eggs but what makes Mac's deviled eggs stand out? Absolutely nothing. Revamp the recipe. Margarita pitcher was good size and we got about 3 drinks each. Our waitress Kate was attentive, patient and responsive to our food concerns. The customer service is good. I will try them again, but maybe earlier in the day when I can take advantage of a lunch special. read more

After finally being seated, we waited 15 minutes before the hostess finally asked if we had been waited on. She took our order. We both wanted burgers well done, but they were about medium. Went here to try their BBQ. The food was good, quick and reasonably priced. Our server was quick and attentive and answered any questions we had for our party of 7. The dipping sauces on the table were all great flavors. Both of my kids cleared their plates and really enjoyed it. Ugh. This place has already fallen off and it's still a fairly new location. Mac's used to be good. We visited tonight and the hushpuppies were fried too hard and nearly burnt. We had to send our entrees back because they were cold. When our server brought me another tray of barbecue, that one was also cold. At the end, when it was time to pay, my server told us the price, and I asked to see an itemized receipt. She said she'd get it after I paid. I kind of paused and almost asked her to go ahead and get it, but I was ready to go since we had two little ones with us. I handed her my card, hoping and trusting that the bill was accurate. When she brought me my itemized receipt, I noticed she had charged me an extra $3 for water. So when I mentioned this, she said she'd go chat with her manager to get it removed. She brought me another receipt to sign that was $3 less though I didn't see an actual reimbursement receipt to know if the money was actually going back on my card. I asked her about it and she said they money should go back on. Honestly, it wasn't about the $3, but it was just that the experience as a whole was subpar on top of being overcharged. I was so excited about trying their food, my family recommended this restaurant to me and as a huge bbq fan I was most definitely excited to try this. When me and my 2 friends walked in it was pretty dark, no one was at the front desk to assist us so we waited about 2-3 mins for someone to seat us. When we got our server we forgot her name but it was an older woman she was nice and sorta timid I really think she was kinda new still because I asked her about a flavor in one of the cocktails and she told me there wasn't any flavor for that drink when it was on the menu, it was btw... I order brisket with Mac and cheese and beans. I ended up getting a brisket sandwich with mash potatoes and Mac and cheese. I told her that I didn't order that and she responded with "the kitchens out of brisket" had she told me this instead of bringing out a sandwich I would have ordered something else but she didn't and I was already waiting 20+ mins for the food already so I ended up only getting Mac and cheese. I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant and pretty bummed about my 1st experience but I'll try it again later on in the future and hopefully update my review. read more
