This was my first time getting a Brazilian Wax and Melissa made it feel like the easiest thing in the world. She was very bubbly, welcoming and very kind. Even though I've only seen Melissa three times, I already DEFINITELY consider myself one of her regulars. I don't see myself going anywhere else! From the get go, Melissa is a true sweetheart. She's all smiles from the second she greets you to the moment she walks you out. She definitely knows what she's doing. You can tell she has a passion for her work. She's very comforting and will talk you through the entire process, telling you when to breathe in and out and all that good stuff. She always asks if the wax is too hot because she's more concerned about your comfort than anything else. I usually pay cash but the last time I was there a couple weeks ago, I swiped my card. Melissa WOULD NOT let me leave her a tip. I pressed the 20% tip button and she cleared it and said she would not accept it. I was blown away. We were making small talk about how I want to eventually get my own place and stuff and her reason for not accepting the tip was "you need to save up for a place". ABSOLUTE SWEETHEART. I can't believe I finally found a wax spot in my city. Melissa is very knowledgeable and did an amazing job. I've been getting Brazilian waxes for many years. These 5 star reviews are really as real as it gets. Today was my first time at Mac's Strips with Melissa; I have never met a wax technician or anyone so humble, so radiant, and so easy to talk to. Even after talking to her for a few minutes I knew that she is unafraid to let her work speak her passion. Her close attention to detail and me as her client made me feel so comfortable. She demonstrated and explained everything so much so that I could literally trust her with my life. Her wax technique and breathing exercises are amazing and the pain was so so so minimal. I've had horrible experiences in the past that made me fear Brazilian waxing but Melissa made me believe in it again. The whole process was smooth and she definitely knew what she was doing; afterwards, she gave me a little goody bag with cleansing products that go with her skincare technique to keep the "down there" area as smooth as a baby's bottom (with the addition of a cute little hi-chew candy that made me so happy). I used to love the European Wax Center, but only because my first Brazilian waxer in Davis was amazing and I always booked with her--that is, until I moved back to the Bay. Since then, it's been meh experiences at the EWC, terrible/painful experiences at other places, and most recently, a mixed experience at a stupid cheap place ($25) with really quick waxers but that was also unsanitary (double dip, yuck! and which makes me stupid, sigh). I decided to wise up and find a new place--Mac's Strips is close to home and the online booking was super convenient. Just had my first wax with Melissa and she definitely knows her stuff. I got pre- and post-wax tips, a pretty quick, fairly painless wax, ingrown hair removal and even a goodie bag with post-wax products! As a businesswoman, she should be getting me to be a monthly customer like most places do, but instead, she's got my best interests at heart--once every 2 months like I usually do is fine since I don't have as much growth down there. In fact, because I have light skin, dark hair, and such little growth, I'm a perfect candidate for laser hair removal--something I've been thinking about but need to save up for. Speaking of saving up, at $47 (for the first time) with about a $10 tip, it's definitely reasonable considering the quality and efficiency of the service, but still a little pricey for me, even at $42 (for regulars) with a $5 tip. read more

First time waxing anything on my body in my LIFE. Honestly, I know its my only experience, but hands down best experience ever. I called in around 2:00 PM for a last minute appointment and Melissa put me down for a 4:00 PM appt. She sent me a confirmation email with all the details about the wax. I arrived on time and she made me feel so comfortable. She scanned my body and did a quick diagnostic before starting. She asked about the history of my waxes and also fixed my infected ingrown hair, professional! She talked me through the whole process and her energy is seriously contagious. I was super nervous, but her energy was super calming. Cleanest wax ever. Swear. I look like a newborn baby! Everything she warned me about was happening, but I was expecting it since her work was so detailed. I am so happy that I found Melissa through yelp and came to her for my first bikini wax! Because she was so informative, helpful, and gentle throughout the process, I always go to her now! Making the appointment was very easy. You could either book it online or text her for an appointment. As soon as it was booked, you would receive an email confirmation and further instructions on how to prepare for the day of your wax. Her business is inside Jenny's Salon so don't be worried if you don't find Mac's Strips in the plaza. I felt very nervous going in because it was my first time, but Melissa was very comforting and super friendly. Throughout the process, she explained every step of the way and made sure that I was comfortable. In order to lessen the pain, she showed me how to breathe out. She was very easy to talk to, which helped me get my mind off of the waxing, and she would always ask if I was okay before she proceeded. After we were done, she went through the aftercare process with me in order to prevent any in grown hairs from appearing in the future. Because my skin is sensitive, I asked her lots of questions, and she gladly answered them and even offered me some aloe vera in case I needed it. Her technique is better than anyone else I've ever seen. So I would keep going to her just because of that -- but she's also genuinely friendly, keeps the talk flowing, and she knows her stuff. I was definitely a bit skeptical but it also piqued my curiosity and I was looking for a new place to get waxed in the San Jose area. You can book your appointments online, although she is usually booked weeks in advance. I got lucky and found an opening the very next day due to a cancellation and secured my spot. Melissa is the sweetest person ever. Mac's Strips is located in the back of Jenny's Salon, where I've gone multiple times to get my hair cut. She has her own room in the back that's cozy and comfortable. When you go the first time, she'll explain the process of waxing, what to avoid after you get waxed and basically go over anything and everything that you might need to know. Melissa uses hard wax which is way better for the skin. She's also incredibly patient and open to any questions and concerns. This was only my second time getting waxed but Melissa made the experience actually quite enjoyable. She talks a lot and it definitely helps you calm any nerves or awkward/shy feelings you might have. She also has a breathing technique that she uses that helps soothe the pain. Melissa is efficient and thorough. She doesn't rush you and takes her time, working at a pace that you feel comfortable with. I'm pretty prone to ingrown hairs and she explained some after-care techniques that help reduce ingrown hairs. If it's your first time, she provides a care package with a scrubbing loofah sponge, acne body wash and some wipes. She's incredibly understanding, willing to listen and provide her professional advice. We also had a great time talking about our lives and careers. She's so personable and it made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. She also doesn't let you tip on the first time, which shows that she really appreciates her customers and wants them to have the best experience. She's very vocal and walked us through the process and what to expect as far as the waxing treatment and the after care before and after our session. When I met her, I was immediately put at ease. She's a sweetheart and incredibly professional. Her voice is soothing and she knows exactly what to say to make sure you don't run away screaming.
