I like this store because deals are here to be found. You have to be your own shopper, and you should be good when it comes to fashion senses. I worked at both Nords and Macys, so I know how clothing, matches go. Since I know what I am looking for, things end up working out really well for me. IF you do not have fashion knowledge, then Macys can be more difficult to shop in, and I suggest that you go to NORDS and have a shopper shop for you. read more

Been going here for years... and I love this Men's Macy's for one reason, the third floor, dedicated to suits only! Once you find help there (or if they find you first), they'll take care of you and get you into something beautiful from CK, BOSS, or Alfani Red Label (if your feeling like saving a few bucks but still getting some kinda style). Also Macy's is always sending out those 25% off suit separates coupons- a huge reason to go on its own! Did I mention its always quiet up there- love that too. read more

I'm usually able to find good deals during sales here. This time I found a suit and a tux for close to $200 each after discounts from just under $600 each. Selection isn't great, but usually some quality stuff to be had if you look. The guy who helped me was very helpful in finding what I wanted and even suggested strategies to maximize our discounts! By the way, this was on the third floor. Alterations are hit and miss. I had to have my suit realtered because the pants legs were different lengths. read more

I always have luck in this Macy's. The selection is great, and the prices are even better. It can be hard to find help but when you do they are great. So, I'm giving 2 stars, which is generous. The only reason I am being generous is because they have a Theory and BCBG section. Otherwise, Macy's sucks. Went to Macy's at the Stanford Shopping Center this morning, to the children's clothes department. it looked like a bomb had gone off...clothes pulled off the racks, ankle deep in most places. It had to be seen to he believed. Only one sales person in the department, at the cash register. No attempt by her or management to clean up the messes on the floor. I left and went to Gap Kids and found what I was looking for in 5 minutes. I will never shop at this Macy's again. It's no wonder the company is struggling. read more

Macy's has OK merchandise and sales. The reason for this low review is that their staff has been very poorly trained in "selling" you a Macy's card in exchange for a 15% discount on your puchase. It may seem tempting, but DONT DO IT! This ended up being a nightmare because I was not comfortable disclosing my income (well over $100K/yr - not a credit risk). The request was denied, and when I went to straighten it out, I could only call Experian (no live people - only automated system or web site) and could not get any answers. I called Macys but it was 3:00 p.m. which means their customer service number for credit cards was closed because it's in the East coast. Finally got ahold of a person the next day who said they could correct the situation but Experian would have to pull my credit history AGAIN, which would adversely impact my credit score. So if they offer you a Macy's card, say THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!!! It's NOT worth the hassle or risk to your credit score! read more

This is for the Men's store. I was in need of a men's peacoat. I had just been Nordstrom's where they had only random scrappy inventory. By contrast, Macy's Men's store was well stocked. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for in about 2 minutes. There was a sale going on but the coat didn't have a label. The guy behind the counter did some quick research, calculated a price and gave me the going discount, thus landing me a really great deal. I was very happy with the whole transaction. Looking around, they have a diverse inventory of clothes and accessories in my style. I'll be shopping there more often in the future. read more

This review is not just for Macy's - the store always has a great selection of linens, housewares, cosmetics, etc. - but for Elsa in the Domestics Department. If all of Macy's could be as good at product knowledge and service as Elsa, there would be no other reason for another store in the area. If Macy's Palo Alto does not have it, but it can be bought at any Macy's, Elsa will find it and get it to you! She knows how to work the Macy's system, always offers any deals that are running and makes you feel like she really cares that you are happy with the store and the products that you buy from her. If she is busy, she finds another quality employee in the department to help you out or will get back to you when she says she will. I shop with confidence and enjoy the shopping experience at Macy's of Palo Alto knowing there are employees like Elsa working there. read more

The suit department is great. The best time to shop at Macy's is during any major holiday. Call the department directly and ask what sales are approaching soon, they're pretty straightforward about it. Go in the mornings on Saturdays during certain holidays for door-buster sales. Because many high-end stores cycle their clothing in-and-out quickly, give an expensive coat a few weeks, it'll go on sale soon. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Macy's has the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. It seems like no one wants to help I don't understand why employ people who don't want to work ... one example is today I went to return something at the Palo Alto location and since I never ever return anything I didn't know where to go so I assumed it would be upstairs in the department I purchased the item from. First register I walked up to had one person in front of me, the cashier looked at me and told me she can't help me because she will go to her lunch after she helps the next person. She sent me to another register on the same floor. That register had no one in line and two cashiers, I told one I had a return, she looked very unhappy about it and told me that for future reference, returns are downstairs ...!!?!? I went to macy's junior stanford mall. I wanted to do a price adjustment well the lady at the juniors couter did not know what she was doing. She kept helping other other customers and putting me aside. She said she was going to call someone to help her, after 4 or 5 customers the lady just walked me to the women's department. When we walked to the couter there was 3 young girls behind the counter just talking. The lady feom juniors asked if they could help her do the price adjustment for me and she also asked if any of them was going to go help in the juniors department. As soon as the lady walked away one of the gilrs said " I am not f#@& going over there to help her. I could not believe she will say that in front of a customer. This is for the Finish Line desk at the Macy's. I went to get some insoles for my beat up Nikes. I tried the Nike running store at the mall, but their suggestion was to go outside the mall to near the Ikea store or Big 5, which was not a possibility since I biked from Stanford Campus. So I remember there was a Finish line section at the Macy's Men's Store and head over. All I have to say about my experience is Carter from Finish Line. That was definitely the best service that I can remember in buying athletic shoes. That includes my first pair that I can remember back in preschool in the Chicago suburbs to the other day buying Air Force 1s at the Palo Alto footlocker. Carter got my insoles quickly and vouched for its quality by showing that he was wearing the same insoles in his shoes. It took me a while to get out my shoes (new high tops) but Carter filled that time talking about the insoles and other products I should check out. He never felt pushy telling me about the products. Most importantly, he never felt fake or saccharine. He kept it 100. That was very important because it added genuine feel to his salesmanship. I walked away with my insoles and a shoe cleaner. He pitched the shoe cleaner and an insole freshner. I decided that within my budget the shoe cleaner worked better for me. So let me repeat because this is my main point here: Carter from Finish Line is the man! Best service I've had in any Finish Line, Foot Locker, Champ Sports, or any athletic shoe store in Chicago or the Bay Area for the last decade and half of buying these shoes (not counting the ages where my parents just bought me shoes). How many people did not receive their January Macy's statement? I got a call from Macy's saying my account was delinquent on the same day their February statement arrived. I said I never received the January bill, but realized I could have lost it or it could have been lost in the mail. I did an immediate Bill Pay of the balance which included the late fee and interest. My daughter-in-law was visiting at the time, so I explained what had called me away. She said the exact same thing happened two days earlier with her January statement. The common denominator of these two problems is Macy's. read more

There is nothing particularly wrong with this Macy's... Except the dressing room situation. There are two sides to the dressing rooms, but they always have one hallway closed which makes no sense. The line is always long and the dressing rooms are always a gigantic mess with clothes everywhere! Whenever I ask to open up the other side, they either tell me they don't know what I'm talking about...? or they gladly do it. I purchased a Longines watch (La Grande Classique de Longines) at Macy's department store in Palo Alto, California, in December of 2012 and recently found that it was not keeping the correct time. Thinking that it might be a problem with the battery, I took the watch back to Macy's to find out what the problem was. I was told by the sales clerk that they could not even replace the watch's battery in the store and that they would have to send my watch away for approximately four weeks for repair. I grudgingly left the watch with them. To make matters worse, later that week I received a call from Macy's stating that they could not send my watch in for repair until I produced a copy of the warranty, which I had had with me at the store when I brought the watch to them. Their failure to ask for the "required" documentation at the time meant that a four-week wait was now extended an additional week. I could have bought a ten-dollar Timex elsewhere and received the same or better service. At the very least, they might have been able to change a watch battery in the same calendar month. I supremely disappointed in the service I have received at Macy's. read more

Macys need to up there game and make the fitting rooms more modern, clean and hygienic. In the women's section, these are such a put off. The last act area is an honest mess and so difficult to find anything. There aren't any selection for Petites. Macys needs to offer better pants and overall the buyers need to reinvent there stores. read more

Truly disappointing customer service! I purchased a sanctuary sweater duster and the sales associate put the XL size in the bag after we hunted the entire floor for the medium size. I called the next day and after 5 attempts and not one answer I gave up. I went back to try and exchange for the medium. There was no one to be found to help. The sales floor was a ghost town - I had to hunt for someone to help! They looked up the sku and advised that the medium was still there and that I could look for it if I'd like. No apology, no attempt to actually step out from the behind the desk and attempt to look. Three of them stood back behind the desk - not one tried to help me look. I returned the item and will never step foot inside Macy's ever again. High end mall but definitely low end customer service. This experience reminded me why I shop online!! read more

I've never understood the whole Byzantine Macy's checkout system. An otherwise pleasant shopping experience is frequently soured by the tedious checkout. First, there's the whole ordeal of determining the price, which never seems to be what you expected. The pricing on the tag, table or rack typically doesn't match what is scanned into the register, which leads to an unnecessary debate over the correct price. Once that's settled, there are the coupons to deal with. Some are accepted, some are not, all in a seemingly arbitrary process with no rational explanation. Sometimes the clerks (God bless them) give you the coupon pricing anyway even without a coupon, which makes one wonder why we went through all that in the first place. Next are the discounts, which are sometimes more, sometimes less, but never what was anticipated. And let us not forget the irritating sales pitch to open up or use a Macy's charge card sweetened with additional discounts if you acquiesce. Once that has all been navigated and the price and manner of payment is finally determined (I've purchased cars with less hassle), it's time for the whole bar code sticker drama. Each individual item, no matter how small or insignificant, requires a new and separate bar code sticker. You stand at the register watching and waiting as clerks in slow motion peel one sticker at a time off the roll, scan the sticker with the wand, carefully affix the sticker to the item, scan the sales tag, and then sync the bar code and sales tag to one another. The process is then repeated again and again for each item. By the time they're done, whatever you were buying has gone out of style. read more

I found them online and remember why I hate shopping at the retail stores. It's no wonder they are all closing down. Crappy employees will ruin the brand. She was trying to help another customer probably because she would get a better commission.
