I've eaten here several times and they still continue to exceed my expectations. The appetizers are fantastic. Their chicken sandwich is an absolute favorite of mine. Such a great addition to downtown Birmingham! Beautiful restaurant inside a gourgeous hotel. Reservations are hard to come by but we were only one of a few tables yesterday..so I am guessing they are trying to restrict reservations to build some hype. We stopped by for happy hour and enjoyed several delicious cocktails. Also enjoyed the beef tartar appetizers, which I found to be fresh but a little too salty. My friend loved the pea hummas. Tucked away in the Daxton Hotel is this gem of a place that has the most exquisite burrata I've ever had. My friend and I visited for lunch after have a spa day at the Rivage (highly recommend - FYI. Best spa I've ever been to!) and Madam exceeded our expectations. We were greeted by a sweet and welcoming hostess who sat us promptly. The decor in the restaurant is modern and the seating is cozy. I instantly loved it. We looked over the lunch menu and decided upon the kimchi burgers, truffle fries, and charred burrata as an appetizer. The burrata blew us away! I've never had cheese so uniquely prepared before. Just the right amount of char added a smokiness to the cheese, and the balsamic vinegar drizzle along with the sweet corn relish and Roma tomatoes just elevated the entire dish to perfection. The kimchi burger was just ok - not something I'd write home about. But the truffle fries were amazing! Melt in your mouth goodness, and we gobbled every single piece up! All in all, a great first impression and I'd likely visit again. Just fair warning - it is PRICEY. Went to Madam for dinner tonight with three of my friends. We started off with the Forbidden Rice appetizer, it hit the spot- SO GOOD, would definitely get it again. As my entree, I ordered the Roasted Mushroom Pizza and the whole table agreed it was so much better than they were expecting, it got thumbs up all around. One of my friends got the Spanish Octopus dish and my other friend ordered the Gnocchi Alla Nonna, both were delighted by their meals and gave them high praise. We had Teal as our waitress and she was very patient with us and gave a very thorough explanation of menu items when we asked about them. So lovely and accommodating! Also the ambiance is just beautiful. This was my second time visiting the restaurant and I have noticed both times that the acoustics are really good (and I think were carefully thought out when it was being built)!! As someone with ADHD who is easily overstimulated, I often get very distracted by customer's conversations, music, etc. in a restaurant setting, but here, that is not the case. I just loved that tonight I could actually relax, unwind and enjoy my meal and the people I was with. Will be back again soon! read more

This is for the lobby experience only. We didn't actually dine here. The lobby experience was really nice though. It's a very modern decor and the ambience is very classy and upscale. They also have live music that keeps you entertained. It does tend to get quite busy so it's best to be on the lookout for any seats that open up and to grab them quickly. All in all, I'd definitely return for a nice evening of live entertainment out. read more

A nice upscale restaurant with a few things to note that may turn you off. Plus side: The 4 entre's of Scallops, pasta with lamb ragout, sea bass and cacio e Pepi Neri were all excellent and the service was excellent too. Dining room was less than half full with reasonable noise level...was much nicer than an overcrowded place....Maybe they saved tables to give u more room which was appreciated. Challenges: Of course expensive although it was the $9 beers that bugged me most. And the wine list is silly expensive. The plates they use are black which does not really look well w the food (see pics). The ratatoullie side was a simple set of vegetables...Nothing like a ratatoullie should be and not much taste either. Desserts were good but would not make me come back. The lobby/bar is a ridiculous mass of noise...clearly the trendy place for Bham right now. And get this....only three one person bathrooms to serve that crowd and the restaurant?!!!! Dumb. Madam's exceeded our expectations. The space is intimate and beautiful. You feel comfortable but classy. The energy from all the waitstaff is positive and kind. The first thing we were asked was if we had any dietary restrictions or allergies. I have a gluten allergy and our waitress made sure I had plenty of options. The food was amazing. We got the Big Eyed Tuna Crudo, which the sauce was to die for. My husband and I got the Caesar salad (I just omitted the bread crumbs), then I got the Sea Scallops which was heavenly and my husband got the Campanelle Pasta. Butterfly Afternoon Tea. Unfortunately even though we had a reservation we still had to wait 35 minutes for our table to be set up. We came in with 11:45am reservations and were seated within a few minutes. The ambiance is very open and chic. Unfortunately, everything else was just meh after that. It took a bit for our server to get to us and about 45 minutes to finally get our food. I saw that it was par for the course as the table next to us went to grab a pitcher of water to pour for themselves, and I had to ask to refill mine already but did not bother to ask again though I would have if my waiter had been around as well. The food was underwhelming when it came to the croque madam that I ordered. Simply put it was a piece of toast that had what looked like it could have been Iberico ham, shredded cheese, a sunny side up egg, and arugula on top. It came with no sides for a whopping $21. I wouldn't be bothered by the cost of it if it would have filled me up, so I was finishing everyone else's food. The chicken hash was a bit more on the salty side. The pancakes were decent. Came in for an early quick dinner. Beautiful restaurant space in the Daxton hotel. I have been there before for brunch and really enjoyed so I thought we would try the dinner menu. Got seated pretty quickly. We ordered the bread and butter (excellent). The butter was unbelievably tasty. Asked for a recommendation from our server and she said the mushroom dumplings were great. It came out loaded with chili pepper flakes. I couldn't taste the mushrooms. After telling her, she said they could make me a new one without the flakes. Um, I have had better. Even though she said it was a very popular dish, I don't think I would order it again. We also shared the Campanelle pasta. That was delicious. The service was a bit slow and we usually had to wave her down to order or ask for anything although the restaurant wasn't that full. Maybe it was just that evening. My lovely wife and I had an incredible meal at Madam. When we heard a good friend of ours was joining the team we knew it had to be fantastic, and we were not disappointed. The staff were all consummate professionals the whole way from opening doors and welcoming you to the space onto impeccable wines and knowledge of the food. All of our needs or wants we're anticipated while feeling comfortable, friendly might be the best description. Cosimo the Somm was super knowledgeable and immediately got us a killer Chablis to get things going and let us know about the half bottle selection which was perfect since I had a steak but we didn't want a full other bottle. Amongst all of the delicious dishes I have to say the Wagyu Ribeye with Potato Pave was easily the best steak I've had to date in the whole state, absolutely umami central. I want to keep this brief so I can continue reveling in the awesome feeling of being well fed, and very impressed with a restaurant. Let me start by stating that our waitress, Teal, was the most attentive, friendly and provided great service! We appreciated that the entire restaurant staff was wearing masks as this is comforting since they are working the the food industry. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the food --surprisingly, I loved the Gem Lettuces. It was laced with an in house made lavender vinaigrette, which was most delicious! The picture doesn't look like much nor did the real life presentation, but, wow! Our strategy was to order several dishes and eat family style, which helped us maximize trying more dishes. I must say that the portions were not big--this is one of those restaurants where the chef takes pride in creating tasty dishes that have outstanding presentation--so don't go starving. We were all comfortably satisfied with the feast. I would order everything again, except for the sourdough bread...because, starches, lol. This is also a cute date night restaurant because the ambiance and the bar decor is sexy. I will return to try the lunch menu. As a Birmingham local I was very excited to try out this restaurant. I have been here a few times to grab cocktails in the lounge area and I will say I have enjoyed their espresso martinis ,as well as, a few other of their cocktail specialities. Their lounge waiters, valet, and doormen have great hospitality. However, when it came down to eating inside Madam I was very disappointed. The food is nothing special and NOT hot. It was barely warm which is disappointing. My friend and I came during a weekday when it was not busy and we were 1 out of 4 tables I seen dining in. Our waiter inside the restaurant took forever to come greet us, take our order, and to deliver our meal ( explains the temperature). For an upscale restaurant I do have higher expectations in terms of service and quality of food. Our bill was $150 and nothing was special about it nor was it a lot of food. Out of all the Birmingham restaurants I do think you can find a better place to have dinner. It is a beautiful hotel which is what makes you want to come in the first place but when it comes down to what they offer, go somewhere else. I'm not sure if she was a manager as I do hope not considering she was very unpleasant. Which is very unfortunate because after my experience trying the food I do like their lounge and recommended it to my friends which was a mistake. We were a party of 7 just enjoying the night when Sam wanted to approach us with poor choice of words to say the least. It was very upsetting considering it was my friends first time and now the last time. As well as, I noticed out of all the staff who were wearing masks, she did not. It was worn on her chin the entire night and at the point, there is no point. Not sure if it's Daxton protocol but she definitely walked around with an attitude on top of that. I also noticed to the table next to us and found it odd for a maintenance man to fix a table that is occupied at midnight on a Friday night. I feel as there is a time and place for that. He was wearing a large backpack and did not watch where he was going and actually bumped into my friends head that was seated which did not add to what already occurred with Sam who was not our waiter by the way. Went for lunch Very stark space for lunch. Not warm, welcoming, or inviting. It's kinda like eating in a white gallery (it's actually the lobby). Over the top art and sculptures are very cool, but add to the starkness. The food is actually pretty good, but the menu is very limited. Your options are a Caesar salad or a burger. Basically. (Dude, nobody orders a burrata salad for lunch. It's an app or a side). They don't have normal food. The food is pretentious and fussy. But it's good. The service - AWFULLLLLL. I mean - service everywhere is bad - but I bet working in this stark clammy space adds to the uncomfort that the service staff feels. Our server was the worst though. Do yourself a favor, walk a block down, go to coney - or if you want a real experience - just go to the rugby. They know how to treat you there! The food was good though. The food was really flavorful and cooked very well. I had one of their seasonal pasta dishes, which they make their pasta in house. They did a great job accommodating my food allergy and they also informed me that if I give them a day's notice they can prepare more options. My server, Lisa, was very helpful and remembered my allergy throughout my experience. Plus she made a wonderful recommendation for my wine. Also in the morning a server saw I was standing by the bar and was super helpful and the manager and host team remembered me from the night before. If you want an relaxed but still upscale environment their is lounge seating in the lobby, also there is a less formal dining area next to the bar (a bit louder but perfect for people watching because you can see the bar and lounge area). The bar is always busy and very popular. If you want a more formal experience and quieter space, make a reservation and book the main dining room. I debated between two and three stars, depending on what you order, I think it could fall either way. I am a bit baffled by the other reviews. Obviously, there are difference of taste. Or perhaps we went on an off night. Or reviewers were distracted by the admittedly shiny and new veneer. My friend and I were excited to try the new restaurant inside the gorgeous Daxton Hotel. The space is is airy and modern, it has a large city feel. I do understand the appeal of the ambience. We went early on a Friday night so it was not very busy, only a few other tables. The service was a bit inconsistent. At the time of this review, there are staffing shortages at most restaurants, so I would not be complaining if this was the case, but it clearly was not. There was another staff member filling up water more quickly than we could drink, we had to ask him for additional drinks as our server had not come back in some time. One of the better aspects of Madam was the wine list. The menu is upscale American, plenty of options, but not overwhelming. The prices are typical Birmingham, expected but for our meal, overpriced. We attempted to start with the mushroom dumplings, attempted as they arrived at the same time as the entree. And at room temperature. I think that the flavor was good, but it was far less enjoyable as they were barely warm. Madam is a protein and veg ordered separately type of place, which is something that always annoys me (really can't throw some inexpensive veggies next to the protein?). It just feels like a way to upcharge for a side. We ended up ordering the steak and a side of broccoli. The steak was warm, but the broccoli, also cold. While I have no problem with ordering a steak that is cooked to the Chef's choice, I do mind if asked how I want the steak cooked, and it's not a franchised mid level restaurant, then comes clearly overcooked. The cut however was very good, buttery. The sauce was the only highlight of the meal, it was fantastic, flavorful and nutty. The broccoli was the worst aspect. Huge spears, with so much acid, it tased like bitting into a lemon. We did not finish it. On an odd note, the plates were completely flat, there was no lip on the edge at all. Chosen for looks I would assume, because they were not at all practical, a bit annoying. Overall, nothing was interesting, and for the price point, much better to go elsewhere. Madam is the most over hyped restaurant I have ever experienced. The food did not live up to its accolade of being award winning - expectations did NOT exceed and service was NOT unmatched. The food was beyond poor, including its, according to the waiter, pre-made and pre-cooked off-site burger and frozen fries, the chicken sandwich was dry, tasteless, and insulting, and the cocktails were an overpriced joke. I recently visited Madam for a celebratory birthday brunch for my daughter. We were a party of four. The experience was absolutely disappointing. Although the young, inexperienced waiter, whom I tipped generously, was nice enough, the other staff were absolutely rude. As my daughter and I approached the hotel we noticed 6 young men who work for the hotel doing absolutely nothing and yet they did not think to open the door for us. Once seated, we ordered cocktails that were nothing more than tasteless coloured water with a splash of prosecco. All of the brunch entrees were disgusting, and although I sent mine back I was still charged for it. The decor is akin to an Art Van installation - lots of gaudy colours, lots of lines, and cheap quality. The aforementioned includes their main attraction - the mechanical horse whose hooves drag across the floor resulting in an awful sound that echoes throughout the lobby and restaurant. This restaurant is neither worth the time nor effort. Service wavers- The first time an older woman and young man were behind the bar and it was clockwork with fabulous menu suggestions and small plates of nuts/olives offered. The second time, there were four young ppl behind the bar (wayyy too many for the space) and they were talking to each other more than anyone seated in front of them. That's somewhat normal for most places but here they charge too much for mediocre service. They also made us cash out when staff were changing?? Certainly management can figure out a tipping situation that doesn't inconvenience the clients- we would've stayed longer and order another round, but since they were so set in cashing us out, we walked to the next bar instead. Been here twice and the food has been consistent. The drinks are also super yummy. Service is good. The pricing is regular for Birmingham. My favorites are forbidden rice and mushrooms dumplings. Definitely cannot go wrong with either. I wouldn't recommend the beef tartare, it's eh. The breading just didn't fit & needs a little flavor. I also thought the duck was okay, Tender yes & comes with lots of veggies, I wish the sauce was better. I recommend the gnocchi, steak, scallops & peach dessert. Really enjoyed this spot, I can get busy & it was super busy a the bar & hangout area. This place is pretty nice & new spot. I would say one improvement is the Entree could come out quicker. After a rough year for the restaurant industry, we have a new restaurant in town! Madam has been open for a week and I think they are off to a smashing start. I love everything about Madam. The atmosphere, the bar, the hotel lobby, and most of all the food. I, of course, wanted to order everything on the menu but restrained myself to the steak tartare and king salmon crudo appetizers. Sadly, they were out of the leek fondue galette so hopefully I'll be able to order it next time. The steak tartare and salmon crudo were both delicious bite-sized pieces of goodness. My friends started with the mushroom dumplings so of course I had to steal one. Another delicious bite-sized package of goodness. Another appetizer I will have to try on my next trip is the forbidden rice. It was so good that my friend's husband took a huge portion much to the dismay of my friend C! Don't worry, she had her fair share of the tasty appetizer. For my entrée, I had the potato gnocchi and it was a bowl of comfort food for the soul. Don't be fooled....it might look like a small bowl but because it's so rich your tummy will be full and happy. Trust me! Sea scallops and the flat iron steak were the entrees my friends ordered. Those dishes are also on my must try list. For dessert, we ordered the gianduja tart. Definitely a rich chocolate taste but not over the top too sweet. A perfect ending for a pretty much perfect meal. As you can see from my pictures, the presentation is wonderful. For being open just a week, the staff and service were excellent. The tables are socially distanced apart and all of the staff are wearing masks. No issues from this diner. Lots of creative cocktails to sample...I ordered the Bangkok Dangerous and it was definitely a good and giant cocktail. Fill 'er up buttercup! Went to Madam for Mother's Day brunch and it was ok. While the restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere was stuffy and the food didn't live up to the standards of a high end restaurant. The best item we had was the Avacado Toast, which was very tasty! My husband's entree came out burnt and the omelet was so basic I could have made it at home. I wish they would have put together a special Mother's Day brunch menu. We did not send my husband's dish back because we don't like to cause a fuss and didn't want to wait for another one to be made. The Daxton Hotel has done everything right! This upscale hotel would have done a disservice had they not gotten the restaurant right. Well let me tell you, they did it right! The service and attentiveness was definitely on par with the rest of the hotel. They do not skip any steps! We were very excited to check out Madam. I ordered the lamb dish which had so many unique flavors to it. The lamb is served over a bed of hummus. It was so flavorful and juicy. It was cooked perfectly, and oh so tender. My mouth is watering thinking about it. He got the shrimp gnocchi. I was not sure about adding shrimp to gnocchi, but it was delicious. I'm not sure why they added peas to the dish but I don't like peas so that's just my opinion. Of course the drinks were amazing! I recommend coming and checking out Madam. But make reservations. You really don't know how busy it will be. They also have Brunch served until 2 pm. We plan to come back and enjoy the brunch. Everything else was conspicuously mediocre. Which is no crime. But totally explains why we could get a Saturday 7pm rez on Friday, the day BEFORE. No more than half the tables were full and with good reason. What a missed opportunity. Bring in a young, up and coming chef from NY or Chicago who can create a unique, fresh and adventurous menu. Had an amazing birthday dinner at Madam! I told my husband that we needed to save room for dessert. He said - why not start with dessert? So that's what we did! We took our server's suggestion and had the pear crumble. Unbelievable! The cider sorbet was the perfect addition to the crumble. We also had the forbidden rice (everyone is right - it is just that good), scallops, and steelhead trout. Our server said the trout is the "wagyu of the sea." Came here because I heard good things about it and saw many posts from my friends on my social media feed. The restaurant is located in a gorgeous hotel that when you walk to the door, you are greeted my the doormen that opens the door for you making you feel special. I love how you walk in, the lobby area is so open and pretty. The reason why I gave a 4 stars is because even though I made reservations for 3, my friends and I still have to wait 20 minutes to be seated, and wait a ling time for the food to come out. She didn't ask the Caucasian people for ID but asked us African Americans. did not replace she did not replace our light on our table, but when new guest that were Caucasian had the same like that we had she replaced it and expeditious time. we waited on our valet for a hour for them. They keep telling us that it was only took seven minutes and come to find out they didn't even get our car. read more

The Bravas Fries are the most perfect french fry you'll probably ever have. The pizzas are generously sized. Incredibly knowledgeable and attentive service. LOVED the rose gold flatware and interesting design choices. Pass on the mushroom dumplings (not all that memorable or filling) and try the fruity Geode Spritz cocktail! Perfection. First it's inside the Daxton Hotel which is awesome but it has a lovely open cheery ambiance. Loved the seating. Staff is so so nice and efficient. Food was impeccable so beautiful you can't wait to dive in. We had brunch, Eggs Benedict (perfect) and Steak and Eggs(flavorful) Really loved it. Will be back next year when in town. read more

Madam is located in the Daxton hotel and let me just say it is absolutely stunning. The decor and the lighting is absolutely gorgeous. We had lunch there and the food presentation was beautiful as well. My friends and I shared a few meals and I hate to say it, but it was okay. I've definitely had better. We ordered virgin drinks from the bar and those were amazing! The burger tasted extremely gamey, the sourdough bread appetizer was over baked and difficult to chew. We enjoyed the pizza and the mushroom dumplings were the star of the show. I would go back just have them! read more
