Mad Cap Brewery is such a great stop in Kent! The vast variety of brews on tap and the quality is great. Always something on there from a basic golden light lager to IPAs, stouts, Hefeweizens, sours, and more. Everything I've had here has been great! There is also a huge selection of pinball and arcade games that are a blast to play. They even have things like corn hole, jenga, darts, and more. Not sure what was wrong with me In college. This place is sweet! Walked in and they were playing classic rock music and a zombie movie on the tv. This place looks unassuming, especially at night. It's got a wooden sign on the corner and it's a biiiiig white building. The window has a big neon light that says open. There's a toooon of parking in front. Don't be alarmed that the building doesn't look super welcoming - go inside! The place is so big inside! Theres so much room. They had like 8-10 beers on tap and tons of picnic table style sitting and high tops. It's 12 bucks for a flight of 4 and happy hour is 4-7 with $1 off pints! Lit. I really enjoyed the beer here! They also have partnerships with bent tree coffee (another local business in kent), so some of their beer incorporates deep coffee flavors. I really enjoyed the four beers I got. Just so you know, there's no food here and they don't allow pets besides service animals inside. They do have chips for $0.75 :). Not sure if they let you bring food inside, I didn't ask. The true selling point: there's hella pinball machines in here! They are well kept up, super nice, gorgeous, and fun. There's a change machine and you can even pay with your phone on some of them. They have everything from Stranger thjngs, Rick and Morty, Star Wars, ghostbusters, Iron Maiden, guns and roses, and even a beach babe heavy lifting pin ball machine. Absolutely loved it here! It was $0.75-$1.00 for one game for $2.00 for 3 games. I had so much fun playing the pinball games. They were in good condition and clean, and there was hand sanitizer nearby. If pinballs ain't ya thing, they have a buncha board games and other arcade games like bowling, driving games, a dart board, and shooting games. This place is rad! Plus, it was not crowded at all on a Thursday evening during happy hour. Had an absolute blast hanging out here with some buddies drinking beer and playing pinball and would love to come back! I made a stop at MadCap for the Summit Brew Path. Staff was great in explaining their beers and letting me try several of them. They do not offer any small 5oz glasses so I passed and just put money in their tip jar, but my niece got a full glass of their sour called Smell My Berry and said she enjoyed it. If you are looking for an event space MadCap Brew offers a sizeable area to rent out. My sister has done so twice for both of my nieces graduations and the brewery accommodated our sizeable groups with little problem. The event room had half dozen or long tables set up and space for food tables. The building itself resembled a warehouse in my opinion. Not really the most exciting ambiance, but the more you drink the less you will care about that. The beer itself was average. I don't remember any being particularly good or bad. What a great new find! I recently came here on a recommendation and I was not disappointed. The gentleman serving was super friendly and helpful when finding a beer to try. I went with the skid or die - a coffee brown ale. It was so delicious I ended up taking some home. This place is so much fun they have skee ball, pool, and pinball! Such a great way to spend your evening. The only downfall is there is no food! This place is legit!! I had a flight with a variety of IPAs and pale ale. Each beer was really good. They have a great selection, but I stuck with the hoppy options after the flight. I think it was called Dropping Anchor - NEIPA and I floated my boat!! The brewery itself was awesome. Lots of space to sit and a bunch of games. They have a bunch of pinball machines too. If you go early and avoid the college crowd then you can enjoy some good beers and play some pinball or pool. Cool spot that allows you to bring outside food or have it delivered. They change up their beers here and there, they have some that stay up on the board but do change things up. They have long pick nick tables that are good for up to 8 people which is hard to find sometimes if you go out in a group. There is usually 6 of us when we go out to get drinks and this is perfect for us. There are a bunch of pinball games and some others as well. read more

This place is awesome. The beer is not only great tasting, but they have a bunch of unique brews, including barley wine. It has a divey feel to it which I am partial to. Every Tuesday they have pinball tourneys that are open and free to anybody that wants to show off their flap prowess. Their flight holders resemble pallets, which makes sense because the place used to be a machine shop. I've never seen that unique of a flight holder before and I frequented SF Bay Area bars for four years. Word of the wise, this is a beer bar, thus there is no food besides a fun size bag of chips and the weekend food truck. So bring food with you or simply order in there. So much fun! This is a great place for groups of friends to get together, catch up and have a great time. The vibe is very chill and fun rather than wild and crazy. They have large picnic tables inside of a warehouse with tons of different group games, skeeball, pool, etc. They have a large beer selection, and the beers I tried were so good! I love that their menu gives you all the stats on their beer such as IBU and ABV. They also have a food truck outside where you can order burgers and fries if you get the munchies =) The really friendly bartender told us that they plan to expand and have a large outdoor area soon! Im at about a 3.5 here, but this is based solely on one visit, and I think there is potential to give more stars later. Some of the reasons we didn't stay all that long weren't necessarily their fault. I kept thinking that if I came back another day, it would be more enjoyable. I love the idea of a unique small business, away from the downtown Kent bar scene. We came around 5pm on a Saturday and by 6 o'clock it was absolutely packed. There was a 15-20 minute line to get a beer. They had two bartenders, and probably could have used another. There was no room at all to get a seat at one of the picnic tables. I'm not sure if it was just this specific day, but there were probably 20-30 kids there with their parents. I guess it works for parents because there are things for the kids to do while they drink. I suppose that's fine, I just didn't really expect that many children at a brewery. They don't serve food, but the Pierogi Lady was setting up in a side room to serve food. It seems like they bring in different food trucks on busy nights. There was a line of pinball machines, ski ball, giant jenga, cornhole and other games. The bathrooms were clean. It's an industrial/garage vibe, very large and open. They had 5-6 beers on tap when we were there. I think I was expecting there to be 9 or 10 like R Shea Brewing has, but I know they've only been there a year, and it's a small business. They may also normally have more, but could have been out due to the large crowd? I believe I saw some stuff erased off the chalkboard menu. I like blonde ale's and they didn't have one on the menu. The wizard cloak was a 12% beer and was awesome, especially for how strong it is. Super smooth beer. I really liked that one. I'd really like to go back, because it definitely has the potential to be a good time. read more

As just a brewery. Knowing they don't have food other than snacks. This place is great. Has a big open feel. Has games for adults. Pinball, pool, darts, ski ball and small pin bowling. While in the area for a concert at Blossom we ventured over to Kent to check this place out. MadCap is on the Ohio brewery app so we needed a stamp! This is a pretty cool place to visit if you're ever in town! The staff were helpful and friendly. The building is industrial but cool. One side has all kinds of games to play while the other side has tables with board and card games on them. Definitely enough to keep you busy while touring the beer list. I hope the next time I drive through Kent that they are able to offer some in house food options, or even a food truck. There are lost of options to order delivery- which we did and it arrived surprisingly fast- but I'm hoping MadCap grows enough to support their own food options! read more

Great spot! My husband and I were in town from Arizona and were craving a little silver ball. After a quick Google search, we landed on this gem and gave them a ring to see how many machines they have. The worker proudly announced the names of their 14 pinball machines which included one of our favorites, Medieval Madness. We showed up with grandma and grandpa in tow and had a blast for a couple hours. My husband purchased a can of one of their local brews to take home. Such an unique brewery. You walk up to giant white warehouse and a little open sign you walk in to a huge open space with huge Picnic tables and Tvs on the wall. Plenty of beers on table and plenty of little games on the tables to play. You walk into the next room and there are pinball and other old arcade games, so bring your quarters!!! I loved their Gold Flash golden ale it was my favorite And they have rotating beer menu. As other reviewers have stated, I'm between a 3 and a 4 on this Kent brewery. The atmosphere was a little too "garage band" for us, with chain link fencing and concrete everywhere you look. That being said, there were plenty of people here enjoying themselves! There lots of games you can play, but because all of them were taken by the time we got there, we ended up sitting by ourselves on one of the many picnic tables to the left. The beer itself was about on par with other small local county breweries. Overall, this could be a place for you if you like the "garage band" feel, but it wasn't really our scene. read more

This felt like a Micro Brewery, it was hard to find the entrance. It was around back though a non descripe door and the smell of yeast was in the AirBnB. The two keeps were very excited about their beer and could talk in high detail about the favors and techniques in the beer making process. There were picnic tables, and games to play. Doing what most of the others millennial/hipster owned breweries are doing with the beer names written in chalk on planks of black board etc. The beers were pretty good. Although the one IPA, the Bullet, was really hoppy. Not my favorite but if you're into your face puckering for a half hour, by all means grab one. You make like it. The golden ale was good. I heard the double IPA was good. Probably smoother than the Bullet. Ample space inside with picnic tables for people to play games and talk. You can bring in your own food, which is cool. The atmosphere was kind of dark and gray with the darker colored walls and some chain link fencing inside separating off an area. People seems to be enjoying themselves. They supposedly had corn hole and giant Jenga around the corner but I didn't see them. Overall a nice time with some friends there. I would go back. read more

I think it's great that Kent has a brewery but it's just an okay one.The space is much different than other breweries I've been to. I think it's much to large and the owners don't quite know what to do with all the space. The side that my group sat on just happened to have one random table with some folding chairs with really no lighting (nothing else was in the space). If you bring a friend that likes Porters and Stouts they will probably leave disappointed. Meh, average beer. Fun patio and great staff. If you're in the area check it out but I wouldn't go out of my way. The Belgian was great but the IPA's must of been older because the only hops flavor I got of was the one everyone complained about "bullet" which that and stinky fingers were probably their strongest flavors. So glad I found this place!!! These guys know what they're doing. Every beer I tried was excellent, even the ones that aren't usually my style. The reason I came was the beer, but they also happened to have a food truck on site the day I went, which also was good. I talked to one of the owners, and he said that they will probably be having food trucks every Friday night during the summer. This is a nice touch because this is just a tasting room, however you can bring food in with you if you like, or have a pizza delivered. They also have several pinball machines (LOVE!) a skeeball machine, a huge game of jenga & cornhole. They also had cold brew nitro coffee from the roaster next door, sad I didn't try any before I left. I will definitely be back - I hear they change up the rotation often and I can't wait to try more of their beers! read more

When my Mother suggested a family outing to the 'new brewery' in Portage County, I nearly fell off my chair. The modernizations to my old stomping grounds over the last 10 years have been pretty incredible- but a brewery with a tap room?? Huge kudos to MapCap for bringing this to the area. My parents heard about the opening in the newspaper - (that's right friends, good old Record Courier is still in print and circulation) and I couldn't find it on Yelp. So the hype is still building on this place. It's about 8 minutes from downtown Kent - would be a great stop on the way to a Flashes game with the proximity to the stadium. The parking lot is large, but awkwardly shaped and will need a bit more lighting. The building I believe is both the brewery and taproom, so it looks like your standard large 'factory' building. Inside, the taproom is relatively raw stylistically. They have a chain link fence separating the tap room from the brewery, and array of picnic table and two large televisions for sports. I envision as this place takes off, the seating area will become more inviting. There's no food that I could see, but it appears you can bring your own/order in as several pizzas arrived as we drank. Initial pricing on the growlers was pretty steep ($25/64 oz) but refills if you return your growler look to be more in the $10-$12 range. They have a nice little array of swag for purchase. Over all, I was really pleased with the experience. I look forward to watching this place mature on future trips to OH to visit the family! read more

Awesome, little place hidden in Kent! Love that there's pinball, corn hole, skee ball, bowling game & jenga!! Super spacious &you can see the brew distillery section which is cool! I'm just not a fan of iPa beers and the selection is limited but my boyfriend n friends love and appreciate good beer haha I ended up getting the lighter beer called gold flash & i ended up loving it! Wasn't too strong like other ipas! Nice seating area where you order drinks where I saw groups bring their own snacks & food to have while sipping beers w friends! Overall very cool place!
