My favorite Northeast Ohio brewery. The brews here speak to me (in a good way). Their summer Blood Hound Orange Brew is the best around. Plenty more to choose from as well. I recommend the Heaven and Helles Lager It is an unassuming brick factory building filled with beer happiness. We got a little tour of the facilities from their friendly and knowledgeable staff. They sport a sour beer that isn't sour from the yeast strain (think brewed on premises with no cross co tam risk). Very cool artwork and creative labels garnish extra points for them. We really enjoyed our stop at Thirsty Dog. The beertenders were absolutely amazing!! We were able to choose our beers and talk to them quite a bit. They were very helpful. We also got to explain what tagabrew is to the other customers at the bar and the beertender, whose first day was that day! She explained how the Akron beer trail worked and which breweries we shouldn't miss and which ones to just skip all together. We found out that they have another location down the street that just served sours and went down to check that place out as well. I got a tin tacker and we both got tags and were on our way. We arrived early afternoon and sat at the bar. They have a nice outdoor area with tables. Our bartender was great, and after we chose our drinks, offered us sample slices of their sirloin mushroom pizza. I gave my sirloin bites to my boyfriend and ate the rest. It was so good - perfect thin crust. They were out of Labrador Lager, but she gave me tastes of 2 other similar drafts and I chose the Irish Setter Red, which is seasonal. I liked it a lot. They have plenty of indoor tables, a large bar, self-serve water, clean bathrooms, and a popcorn machine. What's not to like? read more

You can't go to Akron and not go to Thirsty Dog. It's the best beer in the city. Possibly in Ohio. It's one of several local breweries. They have their own separate taproom. It must be noted this is not on the site of the brewery. It's a few blocks from there. This is a stand alone building that operates at different times. It's possible to get beer at the brewery. This location has more reliable hours. Of course you can go to any gas station and get it. This is a nicer place for it though. It also has some not available in stores, so that's why you should come here. They also sell cool merchandise. I like the Blood Hound Orange IPA. Most beers are $3 for a 5 ounce, and $5 for a pint. The Old Leghumper is the funniest name and it's good too. It also has some food. There's mostly simple things like the chips and salsa. It's easy to get Thirsty Dog beer. Maybe try getting it fresh. Tons of good beers in a quiet part of the city. There's lots of parking out front too. I didn't eat at this location but the menu was similar to their second location in Cleveland. The only thing I didn't enjoy about my experience was that there was no music or sound from a tv playing and it just seemed like a dull environment. The kitchen had a small Bluetooth speaker in it and it was echoing throughout the bar and was not what I would think would be the music of choice for most patrons. read more

Stopped in yesterday and enjoyed the Peanut Butter Leghumper. Lots of good beer choices, very friendly service, water station at the bar. The tap room is cozy inside on a cold day, and it was fairly quiet in the late afternoon which made for easy conversation. We picked up a growler of Raspberry Ale and that was a refreshing light choice for later in the evening. read more

Thirsty dog tap house in Akron! Thirsty dog is a huge supporter and sponsor of the summit humane shelter. I am a volunteer at the shelter and they had the mobile adoption center at the brewery to try to raise awareness and money for the shelter from 12-2 so it's really cool that not only are they a restaurant brew house but they also do community outreach! It was 12 on Saturday. And wasn't to busy. It's animal friendly and had indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor seating looked dark inside. They had specials and I got the shandy for $4/pint. And it was delicious. I really enjoyed their shandy. What a cool and relaxing place to have delicious beer. Brewed right there in Akron too! The tap house also serves food! I got a veggie hummus wrap and it was really delicious. Served with a side of chips. They also sell merchandise. This would be a nice area to host a small party! read more

This was our last stop after a long day of hiking and beer drinking for the Summit Brew Path. We were pretty worn out so I'm not sure we gave Thirsty Dog the best try. I only did a 5oz taster of the Lemon Shandy $3, it was A-Ok. Oh, I did take a sip of two fruit IPAs (blood orange and pineapple) but they were too bitter for me. Staff was pleasant. Room smelled strongly of popcorn. They have an outdoor area. Lots of parking. Right down the road from their Sour Haus and production facility. Thirsty Dog is pretty well known in NEO so you are likely able to purchase their beer at the store or it will be on tap at local bars/restaurants. read more

Love Thirsty Dog beer and drank gallons of it at the old tasting room. Even more taps and a nice atmosphere make the new place a step up in facilities if not we Brew it here ambiance. Food has been acceptable to good... when it shows up. Visited 4 times and twice we had to ask them to correct the bill because the food never arrived. There seems to be a bill processing issue as we watch them huddle up by the register. Took 20 minutes from telling them we'd like to cash out until they processed our payment. With other good choices in the area, I'm stopping by to fill growlers and not much else. Sad because the beer is good. read more

Great beer and a perfect spot for Akron. This place first and foremost about the beer. It's not gonna blow you away with the food, the snacks, or the amenities. But if that was your intentions, then look elsewhere. I went here with some coworkers after a long Friday. A nice cold beer was the perfect way to end a week. It's a little tucked away off the main drag of Akron but easy to find. Plenty of parking too. Once inside, it's a nice little tap room. Well designed and cool ambiance. Comfy and clean. The beer itself is great. I did the normal German style lager just to see how they handle a very basic beer that is easy to screw up. It was great, smooth, traditional and well done. After that it was the more intense beers. I had a summer ipa and the cherry sour. The cherry sour was tart, complex, and everything I needed! All in all, great place. I have been on a mission lately to check out new local breweries in Akron. I would say this was a good one. I went with my parents for appetizers and beer. We all liked our beer. I like fruity beers, so I got a blood orange beer. It was very citrusy, but to my liking. My dad got a pumpkin beer which he enjoyed. We split 2 appetizers. The pretzels with beer cheese and the hummus plate. I am picky about my pretzels at breweries and this one passed the test! The pretzels where steaming hot and the warm cheese had a good balance beer. The hummus plate is why I am giving 4 starts. Hummus was good with the pita, but we got very few vegetables and the ones we did get where dried out. Overall would recommend the TapHouse. read more

I had been to the bar at the brewery itself, but was really happy to see them open a separate TapHouse to accommodate more people and a sportier atmosphere. Went here last night for beer and dinner. They have $4 pint of the month which was a lemon shandy. I was a little worried it was going to be too sweet like a Leinenkugels but it was so delicious and refreshing. It's probably going to become my new summer beer. Only giving 4 stars because the pizza was a little too crisp compared to the last time we were there, so I recommend going for food somewhere else but then coming here to check out some good and pretty cheap beer! read more

My mom found this place and wanted to visit for her birthday. There was 9 of us and it was a Sunday. While approaching we noticed they closed at 5, but it wasn't even 3:30 yet so we decided to go in. There was one waitress for the restaurant AND bar so it took her a little while to greet us. She let us know the kitchen closed at 4:30, which wasn't a problem. She came back to us a few minutes later and made us order our food first because she wanted to get it in before the kitchen closed...it was only 4 p.m. by this point. So we went around the table ordering our appetizers AND food before our drinks. While we were ordering the cook from the kitchen came out and started reading her book while she was writing which made us feel rushed. She's only been there for two weeks so its not her fault, but she was very uneducated about the menu. They were out of the first two meads that I wanted, so I got the Bananas Foster, which was the only one they had in stock, it was alright. So our appetizers came out less than 5 minutes before our food. Our appetizers even came out before our drinks. The buffalo chicken dip looked like soup and did not taste good. My boyfriend finished his beer before my mom even got her flight. I am not sure why they would have ONE person manning the entire dining room and bar. She started bringing out our entrees at the same time she notified us that they were "out" of pulled pork. 5 of our 9 ordered the pulled pork sandwich. I waitressed for 6 years and EVERY restaurant that I worked in either notified the serving staff what they were out of or would notify you as soon as you enter the food. You're telling me they didn't know they were out of pulled pork until it was time to make it? And they didn't even have enough to fulfill at least one of the orders? At this point we just laughed because it could not get any worse. My mom's boyfriend didn't even have his drink at this time so he just cancelled it. We decided to make do with what we had and shared the three sandwich wraps that were ordered. The kitchen was already closed and the remaining entrees were already brought out, there was no point in placing another order. My mom felt so bad because she picked this place and just wanted to have a smooth birthday dinner. NOTHING was offered to try to make amends, not a sorry, a discount...nothing. We just went home and ordered pizza. We will NOT be coming back, too many other breweries in the area that I'd like to give my business to. read more

We have been to the org brewery and love their beer. So imagine my surprise when I see that thirsty dog taphouse opened a few doors down and they serve same great beers and now spirits and wine selection as well. All I had to do is text my husband and say meet me after work and poof he was there. We tried 3 @ $2 a piece before deciding on our glass. We shared hot, soft pretzel sticks with beer cheese with a slight kick. And nacho chips and salsa/guac. We will definitely be back to try pulled pork as well as their pizza's. read more
