Every woman should have at least one classic piece from Madewell. The pieces at Madewell are expensive than many stores for the same type of clothing, but the fabrics and seams hold well through the years. Also, the cuts and subtle details in patterns are a step up from apparel at other stores. This store in particular always has friendly staff on the floor. The manager has helped me put in a few "we'll find it for you" orders. If you can't find your size or preferred color on a product, Madewell will try to find it at another store and ship it to you (for free). I never had to ask about this service at this store and it was always offered when I couldn't find something I wanted. Even though Madewell is a sister store to J. Crew, the clothes and shopping experience are much better -- and more suited to the under-35 crowd. read more

Finally! A Madewell store in Orange County! Today was the opening day for Madewell at South Coast Plaza, and the employees were as lovely as ever...very cheery, helpful, and accommodating. This particular Madewell doesn't look any different. Because it just opened, don't expect to find any sale items. It's almost fully stocked (there were a few items that were online but not in store). If you happen to stop by today, they're giving out pastries from a Long Beach bakery and mini bottled waters (it looks like they only give it to people who actually purchase items, or extremely enthusiastic patrons who voice that they are SO happy that Madewell has finally made it to Orange County). I've heard a few customers say that they've forgotten to print their 15% off their first purchase coupon, so you can also use that excuse if you "forgot" to print it out. For one time use only. Someday, my closet will look like Madewell. Well, hopefully anyway. The selection of collared shirts is awesome. Color, print, texture, details, everything. I love it. The denim is all amazing, too. I will never buy denim shirts anywhere else from now on. Anything denim or chambray here is nice quality and doesn't feel like it'll wear out easily. Being so short (5'1") some things fit slightly bigger on me. I wish they'd offer a petite range like J. Crew does, but hey. The skinny skinny ankle jeans seem to fit pretty decently. I'd give the brand 4.5 stars for not having petites, but it would be a lie because I just love this store so much. Buying in-store has consistently proven to yield more savings in sale than online, and if you present a student ID, you get 15% off. The store itself has friendly workers and is reasonably well stocked with a decent sized sale section. It's not as big as the one in Santa Monica, but you can still find a lot of deals in their sale section. Store to store, it seems like their 2 for $40(ish) deal for basic tanks and shirts is here to stay. read more

So now that there's a Madewell in my hood...what does this translate to with respect to the previous statement? Less money on gas and more money to spend on clothes. Madewell is definitely Made-well. They are actually the Marc by Marc Jacobs of Marc Jacobs. The sister store of Jcrew. No wonder Madewell's clothes are a lot trendier and age appropriate for me than Jcrew. This store is heaven for me. I probably come into this store at least once a week. Its very rare that I leave this store empty handed. I am a college student and the price point here is a bit high here for me, but it is oh so worth it. To me, it is always about quality over quantity. I would rather buy one great, classic shirt from Madewell than buy 5 shirts from f21. They last longer and doesn't go out of style. All the items at Madewell are Classic pieces and aren't items that you can only wear one season and can't wear again the following season. The associates are always really helpful here. It was my first time ever entering a Madewell a few days ago and I cannot believe the experience I had. I have always passed this store for years and decided to finally give it a shot. I go in and the atmosphere is very nice, aesthetically the layout and styling is top notch. You definitely get a vibe for the store and what they carry as soon as you go in so you'll know within seconds if you'll be compatible with Madewell. Little disappointed that all of their plaid shirts seemed to only be "boyfriend" style and even the smallest sizes were very boxy(but that's more of a personal preference). I originally went in looking for a good new pair of high waisted black skinny jeans. It took a while to find an employee to help as it was slightly busy here but when I finally did I was blown away. I explained to her exactly what I was looking for as I am very picky with my jeans and also have a long torso with a 25in. waist/36in. hips that most companies don't cater to. Amy took the time to actually explain all of their different denim, how they're made, what they're made out of, and what their fit is. Her knowledge on the Madewell brand(not only the denim) is absolutely extensive and you can tell she really has a passion for her job as well as for the brand. She gave me a few options to try out and although they didn't work(this torso is just too long!) I still left the store amazed by her salesmanship. I love Madewell and am so happy I decided to visit this location. I was a little hesitant after not having good experiences at the El Segundo location, but the staff here at So. Coast is AMAZING, especially Sara!! She was so kind & patient with me. She helped me with a total denim and Spring wardrobe refresh all while in the midst of a Saturday sale rush. It was crazy busy in the store, but she helped me find exactly what I was looking for & also introduced me to items I would never have picked myself, but instantly loved upon trying on. She went above & beyond & I am so grateful to have had her stylish eye & help. Also, Tailor at the register was so fun & friendly too...actually all the staff I encountered were great. The employees never offer help and are unfriendly. Totally agree with everyone on customer service. I had wanted to go to the store to check out the curvy fit jeans. An employee hovered over me while I looked at the jeans and asked my size (really not something I feel comfortable disclosing to random teenagers who are a 00). She then condescendingly remarked that they did not have my size in stock ("we don't have anything bigger than 26") and then remained hovering over me to inform me the next pair of jeans I looked at also were not available in my size. Perhaps I wanted to feel the material and fit of the jeans even though the store did not have one in my size? Perhaps I wanted to compare the curvy fit to the regular? Apparently these are not options the employees here consider and in their view, if the store doesn't have someone's size a person is not allowed to look and shop around. I felt incredibly uncomfortable with the employee's tone and her presence around me. Not sure when Madewell turned into Brandy Melville but frankly my experience has repelled me from returning to the South Coast Store or from ordering anything from Madewell online because clearly they do not want my business. read more

Love the girls in here, I don't frequently visit South Coast Plaza but when I do I always make it into Madewell. Came in today and (the girl with the wrist tattoo and blonde hair) Didn't get her name but she talked with me the entire time and helped me find a new pair of pants for a brunch I'm going to on Sunday and even suggested a few coffee places I try near the place I'm going to brunch, even though I've been to all of them it was really nice :) Even though Madewell is a J Crew brand I never feel the big corporate feels in this store, super warm, cozy environment with light woods and a cute creaky floor. I get the vibe that they don't want me in the store, which is unfortunate because their merchandise is on the pricey side. You'd think the price tag would at least warrant a smile. That said, I opted for online purchasing. Not the best choice, either. I purchased three pairs of shoes online for in-store pick-up. When I received the email that the shoes arrived I went to pick them up the NEXT day - only to be told they weren't received. I showed the employees at the cash register the email I received and they finally agreed to go check the back room. They returned with one of the three pairs of shoes. I was told to call Madewell's customer service for further assistance. Customer service confirmed the shoes were received by the store the previous day and that I had to call the store. The store miraculously located my order and very (not) graciously agreed to send them to my home so I wouldn't have to make another trip to the store. Not the best experience. The last time I ordered online, I opted for home delivery to skip the whole in-store pick up fiasco. I ordered the small transport bag on 12/3/2019 at which time I was advised it wouldn't ship until April 2020. That was ok, so I ordered it. Last night (1/16/2020) at about 8 pm, I received an email that my order was canceled because it was sold out. And they were so nice they didn't charge me for it! Isn't the transport bag one of Madewell's staples? How could they sell out? I emailed back because I couldn't believe it would take them 6 weeks to figure out they couldn't fulfill my order. Well...less than 12 hours after Madewell canceled my order, it's back in stock - well, per Madewell cust svc, it's back on the website waitlisted for April delivery!! As in...I'd be in the exact same position I was in before!! Only now I have to re-order and notify them.... Madewell is just making me work waaay too hard to spend my money. Madewell has the best basics that are also trendy. I love that they offer size XXS as I very petite. The staff here are some of the most helpful that I've encountered at any store. I often need a size that is not available, and they are always happy to help me order from online with waived shipping fees or other locations. I LOVE MADEWELL. Although a bit pricey, quality is very good. Although I had to travel 22 miles, I would love to travel to my local madewell to try the clothes/shoes I check up online. Great selection, Great staff! I usually buy Madewell apparel online, especially during those extra 30% or 40% sale b/c finding your size can be a pain/fight for against other shoppers. However, I continue to visit this store regardless b/c staff in this store is ALWAYS willing help. They will ask and check other stores to see if the apparel/shoes are available in your size, which I appreciate! For instance, I was checking out these shoes online during their extra 30% off sale and decided to try on their store first. Alas,4 hours later those same shoes are no longer online and the size available on the store is a half size smaller which I would just suck up to and get... but the staff whole-heartedly checked other stores online/through the phone even if there are lines in the register... In the end, I was able to get the same shoe in the size I wanted shipped from SF to my home for free, thanks to this store! The people complaining about customer service at this location are spot on. It's not so much about their clothing as much as it is about the employees attitude when it comes to this location. I came during a weekday to avoid the crowds and the employees were horrendous. I mean to the point where when I walked in, being the only customer in the store, BOTH employees stared straight at me and neither one said "Hi" or "welcome" instead they turned their heads away to gossip about me walking in? When I continued to walk around the store both of them keep giving me dirty looks and still wouldn't say anything. I had to just leave the mall because I was so upset. Be warned, clothing is cute, but if you want to get zero service and potentially judged for your existence for daring to step foot and breathe in the store then this is the place for you :,) thanks madewell, it was a time portal back into my High school cafeteria. Never thought I could be taken back there again. RIP. For reference, I was there on a Thursday morning and it was a Dark brunette with tattoos and another Blonde employee. Madewell clothing is great! However, this review is for the EXCELLENT customer service experience I had at the South Coast Plaza location. I purchased a pair of jeans on-line and they were too big, so I went in to see if they had a smaller size. Not only was CHELSEA (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) friendly and polite about the return, she was so incredibly professional! Chelsea went above and beyond and searched their system to find me another pair of jeans at a different location and had them shipped to me for free! I walked into this store for the first time and was thrilled to find the style of purse I had been searching for a long time. The quality and function were exactly what I wanted and the best part was that it was on sale for under $150. I know other reviewers said this store is for young women in their 20s but I think one can find styles that are flattering for a variety of ages. My petite cousin had no problems finding dresses in size 0 (they even have 00). I look forward to going back here soon. read more

This store is one of the few stores in which the selection literally makes me squeal with delight every 5 sec. I LOVE Madewell! Perfect if you like the Jcrew style (same company), but feel a lot of the clothes are a bit old for you. This specific location is very cute. The interior is very nice and the displays are put together well. The service is usually good too. One of the sales associates (I think her name is Sara) is very nice and friendly. I want to give an extra happy shoutout to one of the employees, Eleanor. I had ordered a shirt that, unfortunately, took a bit longer than expected to arrive. After calling the store and speaking to her directly and asking for more information, she and the team discovered that though the payment had been received, they had completely forgotten to submit the order through. Whoops! Eleanor was deeply apologetic and she herself made sure the shirt would be sent immediately through overnight shipping. I just spent a boatload of money here but, uncharacteristically, I don't feel guilty about it at all because 1) everything fits great and is of great quality, 2) all but one item was on sale and 3) the service was great. It's a smaller store physically, but I didn't notice that much of a difference than the larger one at the Americana in Glendale. I actually prefer a smaller space; it helps me focus. Like most of the stores, the SAs all look like fresh-faced college co-eds. I find that a lot of them tend to be on the shy side (probably their first jobs) but the manager who rang me up was friendly and knowledgeable. Came here on a weekday and I had a pleasant experience. That might change on the busier weekends. Given that this is South Coast Plaza near stores like Zara, H&M, the Gap and Sephora, I think you can bet on it being more hectic. But, all in all, I'd come back here instead of the one at Americana where service tends to be spotty. read more

I will never go back to this Madewell location. I have loved Madewell for years, but I am so disappointed with the costumer service provided at this Madewell location. Alex (Alexandra) a brunette woman who was working at the fitting rooms/jeans section had such a TERRIBLE attitude. I have never tried on Madewell jeans and as a costumer who has never tried on their jeans, I tried on a couple pairs of jeans and as I gave Alex the jeans (that didn't fit me) and she literally YANKED the jeans from my hands and said "are these the jeans you're not buying!" She had an awful attitude and not only that, as I walked away she thought I had left store and she went up to her blonde coworker and started saying how STUPID I was for trying on jeans. Like are we not allowed to try on clothing? I ignored the fact that she was gossiping in front of me, she was probably having an bad day. So I still decided to purchase clothing and a PAIR OF JEANS. But to my surprise, I was at the register and thank God the manger was ringing me up. I was going to tell her about Alex and her terrible attitude. As RACHEL the manger was ringing me up, Alex walks up to her and says "omg I have to tell you about this stupid girl that tried on jeans!" Alex then realized that it was me. And her manger RACHEL decided that it was appropriate for her to say that in front of a customer and she said "ok, tell me about it after this transaction!" I am so shocked by the people who work at Madewell. I get you're working at "South Coast" but that doesn't mean that you have to act snobby and immature. Those 3 girls really need to rethink working in retail because they clearly do not know what it means to be kind and respectful to customers. Also, I went on a weekday. I love this Madewell!! The sales are amazing and the student discount is even better. I came in looking for an item that was on sale online. Yen was amazing and helped me right away. She said the item was on promotion online but not in store, but she would sell it to me for the price listed online and with the student discount.
