Soo, we moved to Sarasota about 7mos ago and live just down the road from Madfish. We hadn't gone here because the Yelp reviews were less than stellar. Recently there has been a significant uptick in review scores. I'm guessing new management?? Anyway, my wife and I went the other night. What a GREAT experience. Amy, our waitress, was awesome. We have been quite often to this restaurant the service and the food are nice. We always opt to sit outside because of the Covid restrictions . we are there at least 3 times a week , and have spent there a substantial amount of money. On a few occasions we have taken our dog with us , since their terrace is dog friendly. This past Monday, one of the female managers , was extremely rude to us and asked us in the most uncivil fashion to leave right away , because our dog barked. Needless to say we will not go back . This person should not be holding the job position she is in . She does not deserve to work with public and people . She would do well being a garbage collector, she treated us like dirt. No one should be spoken to in the fashion she did, under any circumstances. read more

Visited Madfish Grill today. Ordered fish and chips as I do most restaurants throughout the state to compare. Kind of like a gauge. If the fish and chips were good I will return to try other meals on the menu. Disappointed with the battered fish. The fish was tough, not flaky and without much flavor. But the fries were hot and crispy and the coleslaw very good. Sadly I only got about 2 TBS of the coleslaw. All in all quite disappointing and I won't be back. read more

Service was excellent manager and owner came by to say hello. Fish and chips were made just right and salmon sobe was incredibly delicious and the lobster escargot is a must try. Friendly host staff; I came in behind a few groups of people who appeared to be 'regulars' and they got really homey familiar greetings which I thought was nice. They seemed busy and it took a bit for the waiter to greet us, but once he did he was very pleasant and attentive. We relaxed with a few cocktails(mine was the bourbon smash, my friend got the gimlet). Both excellent. I couldn't manage taking a photo before a few sips, oops. Food was very good. Disgusting. I am not a fish person but, my dinner partner wanted a "nice piece of fish on a good hearty salad." So we thought we would give this place a try. We are from out of town and had just gotten done working out at the LA gym in the parking lot. As a vegetarian, I ordered a bowl of the black bean soup. What I got was a bowl of black beans poured out of a can- maybe a a couple of weeks ago. It was obvious there were no added spices- not even salt or pepper. The thick goo that is normally drained off of a can of beans was the broth. And it was ice cold. There was a few sprinkles of cheese in top along with four diced onion pieces. The cheese of course wasn't melted. It tasted like a refrigerator. Yuck- I couldn't finish it and left with a stomach ache that continued for 24 hours. The handmade potato chips were good. And so was the iced tea. My friend's salad was dumped out of a bag and coated with waaay to much bottled dressing. No trained chef in the kitchen--obviously. The service was great- the server knew we weren't happy-- but she acted like complaints of poor food a regular occurrence. Save yourself- and by pass this- your guts will be happy. read more

Needed a place midway between tampa and fort myers and close to 75. In a see of chains and fast food places, I found Mad Fish grille. So many mixed reviews for this place that I decided it's probably a matter of taste and what is ordered. The ambiance is dark and a bit upscale but not in a snooty way. The service was great even though ours was a newby, he did an excellent job. Lots of seafood options obviously and also meats for you carnivores. I ordered the lobster fondue which came with bread. It tasted like a lobster bisque with nice size chunks of lobster. So so good, I would order this again. I kept the theme going with a lobster cake with wilted spinach and got the hollandaise on the side. Very good as well. My table mates enjoyed the fried chicken mac n cheese and burger with delicious onion straws atop. Don't be afraid of the one and two star reviews, order what you like and make up your own mind. We were here for Christmas..visiting family and we saw this place and decided to stop. We didn't have a reservation, and they offered us 2 seats at the bar, which worked out well. We had the bang shrimp as an appetizer..very good. I had the horseradish crusted grouper with mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was very good!! We were looking for lunch in Sarasota and Madfish Grill popped up as a good choice. We were surprised it was not crowded, but suspect it is busiest at dinner. My wife had quiche and really liked it. I went with The Key West Fish Sandwich and it was large and very good. Our server was great and even left a pitcher with more sweet tea so I could fill it as I wanted. Took my wife out for Valentines Dinner. From the time we walked in until waiter came to table everything was excellent. Waiter took my wife's order then totally for got to ask for my order. I had to ask him to stop and take my order. We had lobstersgot as appetizers. Lobster was overcooked with sliver of mushroom ( not the stuffed mushroom caps with fresh lobster knuckle meat ). We then had blackened mahi-mahi fish tacos. I suspect it was skip Jack; very fishy tasting and under spiced overloaded with "slaw". The black beans over rice on the side. Canned beans over day-old Chinese rice? One drink, one ice tea and one dessert. The bill $100 with tip. Last time we ever go. Ok. This is our go to place. It's a neighborhood restaurant with great food. It's not a chain. They have lots of fresh seafood every day but we think they have one of the best burgers in town. There are specials every day and early bird pricing if you can get there before 6. The kitchen gets the food out quickly even when the place is full. The servers make a habit of recognizing you and know where you prefer to sit. Everyone is friendly. The hours are loose If people are eating and drinking later than their posted hours, they stay open. It's our "Cheers" in Sarasota. read more

Second time here, and a great local place. So far the fish dishes are small but tasty. Rice was out of the pot, plain and no flavor, however the mashed potatoes were fantastic.
