I thought this would be more of a higher end place (because of the prices) but it wasn't which is fine but prices don't reflect that it's more of a sports/casual place. Food quality was low. Really low. My Maui must have been frozen a few times to be so tough, stringy and chewy. Never had a piece of fish that bad. It was cooked well but the texture was really bad. The waitress never came back to refill my water or ask how it was or if we needed anything . I only tipped a little over 12.00 because she was so bad. It's not an easy job but I think there was 3-4 other tables so if you can't handle that maybe a Walmart greeter? This was around 2:30 so the empty parking lot didn't alert me like it should have. I've been aware of this place for a long time but was never inclined to try it. After reading other's reviews we decided to give it a try. We went on a Saturday late afternoon or early evening. We were seated right away. Staff are friendly and attentive. There was no wait to be seated, our server showed up right away with water and to take our drink order. The server arrived with a basket of fresh bread and a savory spread. Both were very good. They menu offered a lot of choices. We settled on the fish and chips. The server remarked excellent choice and was enthusiastic about their fish and chips. I am always on the hunt for decent fish and chips. The meals arrived promptly along with a bottle of malt vinegar for the chips. The plate consisted of three decent sized pieces of fish, a generous portion of chips and a cup of coleslaw. Included was a generous portion of tartar sauce. The slaw was very good however it was a bit challenging to get it out of the pleated paper cup that was prone to collapse. The chips we're equally as tasty with a splash of the malt vinegar and a bit of salt added. I wish I could say the same for the fish. While the tarter sauce was tasty the fish was not so much. While it had a beautiful crunchy batter the fish inside was barely there, dry and tasteless. The menu said the fish was haddock and it could've been it didn't seem like it. At the end of the meal the server was prompt in bringing the check and then ringing it through. I'm not sure if I would go back again. In our case everything was tasty except the fish. read more

Firstly, the rolls were cool and not really fresh tasting. The copious garlic herb dip were a nice addition. We had an order of fish and chips, bang bang shrimp app and their "1905"type salad. Maybe a 5 out of 10 from each of us we thought. We wanted to love this place as the outside patio was pretty quiet and a comfortable temperature. Lovely addition was the elevated herb gardens at the patio edge. The service was good- our server checked on us several times and refilled water without prompting. My wife and I are from Seattle and came to town for vacation for the week. We stopped in for dinner and I had the baby back ribs, which were pretty good but not great. They were a little dry and the baked beans and coleslaw were only So-so. My wife had the cod which was decent but really needed some type of a sauce or better seasoning. Overall, the food was between three and four star rating. The service was awesome and that's the reason we gave a overall four star rating. Outdoor area was really nice and we enjoyed that too. Started off with yummy fresh bread and olive oil. Not too loud and noisy and seemed to be very casual and it was easy to have a conversation. Our waiter Mathew was nice and kept my water full. We not only go to Mad Fish all the time, we bring visitors and friends alike up to 10 times a year. We made a reservation on a Saturday night for 6 and when we arrived they told us they over booked the patio. Made up a make shift table in the back corner of the patio with no fans and seemed out of the "normal" restaurant seating. Now we know why. 10 feet away behind the fence is a dumpster. When our food arrived 30 large flies arrived with it. It was disgusting. I told the manager quietly without causing a scene and he told me "Duly Noted" thanks for letting me know. Each couple spent over 100.00 and couldn't eat our dinner. The flies kept us from taking anything home. They Couldn't have cared any less. Nothing was done. Just a true letdown. What can I tell you -- it all began with high hopes of a seafood dinner and a lovely atmosphere. But the tale's promised hope fell short of the fulfillment. No don't get me wrong, the staff here was friendly enough... But the food was simply bad! Details you ask? My partner had black bean soup to start. The minute she tasted it, she knew it was old. It came served cold and look like somebody dumped a canna beans in a bowl and topped it with a few chunks of onion. No spice and no nice. I had a power salad. It was advertised to come with all kinds of goodies like quinoa and golden beets and broccoli. However, what I got was a bag mix of broccoli slaw ( I've bought it in the grocery store before) Not a beet to be found and at least a 3rd to a half a bottle of sweet onion dressing. Oh it had a smidgen of an unidentifiable grain. I even ordered a side of lemons to counter act for sweet dressing, but I couldn't kill it. Believe me I did not want dessert. Oddly enough, the waitress never offered one! That was different! The only thing that got a good review, was the kettle chips except they came with bottled dressing as well. Even the water hey certain it tasted like it came straight from the tap. I think the waitress may have noticed something because the chef came to our table. He didn't introduce himself though; rather he just said is everything OK? We told him it was figuring a review would make up the difference.It's up to you if you wanna come and try it out. read more

It took forever to get a server. When we did, we ordered a BLT salad and lobster bisque with our Hogfish entree. The salad was small and had very little bacon. When I asked for more bacon I was informed it was an upcharge. We finally got bread and had to ask for water. It was 4 pm so it was not busy. The fish was good, but the portion was small. Stopped here for an early, solo meal, so my review is only for my experience at the bar. The bar is a very popular hang-out for locals, and for good reason: great Happy Hour prices on wine, beer and cocktails, food and even an Early Bird dinner menu. I had a nice glass of house wine, which turned out to cost me about 4 bucks. Super deal! I also chose the fish & chips from the early-bird menu. I can't say it knocked my socks off. The coleslaw has a horseradish-ey kick which was delicious. The fish was, well, just fried fish. I didn't necessarily feel a warm and welcome vibe here, although the staff seemed really friendly with the regulars and there's a lot of chatter and laughter between staff and regulars. I just didn't necessarily feel it. Maybe if I showed up more often. I would recommend Madfish but recommend that you try some other items on the menu, which seemed to be varied.
