An exceptional stay--this was one of the most comfortable and pleasant Airbnb lodgings and by far…read morethe most sustainability focused stays I've had. The rooms were cute, very well-kept, and extremely comfortable--exactly as the pictures illustrated. Lisa took time to show us the premises, complete with all of her amazing projects. The rooms feature water recycling, solar-generated electricity, composting, and on-demand water heating system (very cool). Beautiful surrounding area with soul-warming views of the distant mountain range. Easy drive from downtown (yet far enough for a refreshing & secluded feel) and delicious restaurants--just ask Lisa for some recommendations. She was very helpful in offering suggestions to explore the culture, food, and geography of Santa Fe. Overall: overwhelming comfort met eye-opening learnings in sustainability, along with a truly wonderful and inspiring host.

Also known as "the Spartan", has been lovingly restored to original era interior finishes, amenities and appliances. I was a little hesitant about the size initially, as am over six feet tall, but once settled in I easily navigated the kitchen, living room, bedroom and shower with ease. Really enjoyed the coziness of it. Aside from the interior the spartan is flanked with a front porch with views of the sangre de cristo mountains and a backyard with trees and shrubs creating a unique welcoming space. Worthy of a destination itself the spartan is sure to please with all it's charm and creature comforts.

A Fine Experience…read more.... - Overall: 5 - Location: 5 - Exterior: 4 - Interior: 4 - Ambiance: 5 - Witter Byner Room: 5 - Witter Byner Bathroom: 4 - Breakfast: 5 - Amenities: 5 - Hosts: 5 - Housekeeping: 5 - Parking: 4 - Value: 5 For the first stop on our driving tour of the Southwest US, we stayed in Santa Fe for 5 nights. But where? Reviewers touted the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear.....and they were right. Pros: - Location: Central. Just south of the downtown area and a 15 minute walk to Canyon Road. - Exterior: A sprawling property in a residential neighborhood. Several smaller buildings seem to have been added over the (many) years to the main building seen on most photos of the property. - Interior: Like going back 100 years. Things were fixed, of course...especially in public spaces...but you might feel as if you're in a living museum. - Our Room (Witter Byner): Large and rambling. More than enough room for 2 people plus a balcony overlooking the front of the property. Very comfortable. I could live there for a month if we didn't mind going up and down 15 stairs to the main floor. One interesting aspect: The bathroom. It was very nice and fully equipped, but separate from our room and down 5 stairs. That wasn't a problem during the day, but a few nights were an adventure - Breakfast: Unreal. Everything was homemade with great taste. The buffet portion had sliced fruit, granola, juices, pastries and yogurt. The hosts and kitchen staff had 3-5 entrees available each day. I rarely tried those since I filled up on the buffet, but my wife ate one every day and only had good things to say. Service at the community table was gracious and unhurried with lots of interesting conversation. - Amenities: A 1-2 hour Happy Hour every day starting at 430 or 5 PM. Fresh cookies, fruit, tea and jug water were available all day (coffee from 630-10 AM). Umbrellas. Plenty of smiles. - Hosts: Everyone was very friendly, helpful, informative and even charming. Special thanks to Aileen (sp?). - Housekeeping: Effective, efficient and unobtrusive. - Parking: Sufficient. The large courtyard in front of the of the property provided enough room for cars in the 11 room B&B. - Price and Value: Reasonable. It's not cheap, but as in most cases you get what you pay for. We'd heartily recommend the Inn Of The Turquoise Bear, but make reservations well in advance.

Houses of the Moon is a truly interesting stay. A western, and sometimes southwestern, take on a…read moretraditional Japanese inn. Each of the rooms is moon themed, named, whether in English or Japanese, after a phase of the moon. Those with good Japanese skills, however, may notice that they've run out of phases of the moon and have started doubling up (there is both a hangetsu and half moon, for example). The site is absolutely gorgeous. Even if you're not staying here, it's worth a drive outside of Santa Fe just to come gawk at the architecture. The rooms are comfortable, if a bit sparse. Our mid-level room, for example, had no table. The original rooms are built out of a renovated 80-year old adobe house, and as a result are heated by overhead units and fireplaces rather than central air. Despite that, I never felt uncomfortable in the room, despite visiting in November. I also found the bed very comfortable. Firm but forgiving, not the mushy-soft beds which are becoming trendy at some high end hotels. The rooms do also have a number of amenities, including a variety of types of tea (although not very good tea), fresh fruit, and granola in the room daily. The granola and fruit make an excellent breakfast and/or midnight snack, which is important because it's a little ways into town from Houses of the Moon. The washlets in the room (electric Japanese toilets with heated seats and bidet features) are a nice touch. I personally found the Buddha chocolates delicious, but somewhat kitschy and sacrilegious. I imagine there are a lot of folks out there who would be offended by a place that served you little chocolate Jesuses, so it seems to me we should treat the Buddha with at least as much reverence. Add to that the fact that freeing yourself from earthly desires is a central tenet of Buddhism, and the idea of serving chocolate Buddhas (chocolate being something of a symbol of luxury and earthly desire) seems a bit strange if you stop to think about it. Houses of the Moon also provides guests with yukatas (which they refer to as kimono, presumably for the predominantly Western guests), and bath sandals. However, these don't appear to be sized to the guests. My medium sized self and girlfriend got an XXXL and XXL coat to go over our yukata, and I was swimming in my sandals as well. A nice touch, but would be a lot better if they weren't so huge! Yukata can be worn to Ten Thousand Waves and Izanami, both located on the same property. In addition, Houses of the Moon guests have complimentary use of the communal baths at Ten Thousand Waves, with some restrictions. A nice perk. The staff at Houses of the Moon were excellent, calm, helpful, and never intrusive. They answered all of our questions, and anticipated our needs. A highlight of the stay. Overall, for those looking for a quiet retreat without a lot of hubbub or action, Houses of the Moon is a good choice. If you're just looking to visit Santa Fe, Houses of the Moon doesn't represent a good value for money. There are plenty of nice places to stay closer to the city at much lower rates. Houses of the Moon should also not be mistaken for an authentic Japanese ryokan. While it bears some relation to one, it is more of a western cousin.

Ok, so this place has not had reviews since 2019, let me bring you up to date...2022…read more I saw the good reviews for this place and thought I'd try it out. This place is getting 2 stars only because the bed was comfy, it was warm and the Tv worked. The owner was nice, friendly. Now, let's get to the bad parts. The previous person who was in #6, was late leaving...therefore, I had to find something to do for the next hour while they got the place cleaned and ready...she did offer me another room but, not for the same price. Where I went will be another review and for that time it worked out. My room was nice and clean for the most part. The bathroom sink was clogged and slow to drain, Toilet was low to the ground, there is mold on the ceiling, and the fan was covered with dust, and bugs, spiders on the wall and ceiling. Oh, and I had a wasp in my room! The shower sprayer was to harsh, and not enough hot water. The coffee pot had no coffee filters. It was quiet and was able to take my dog out at night, and pretty dark, the street light came on then went off. The lady that owns it has the place very cluttered and the kitchen where I went to check out was pretty cluttered and dirty. So, if I go up there again, I will look for another place and pay more to make sure I feel more comfortable.

A box TV, VCR only that doesn't always work, quilted blankets, and old school horse pictures. When you walk in, you will probably think you have been transported to the 80's but Billie and her housekeeper keep it very clean. She has a couple different room options, from tiny one bedrooms, to a few family rooms, to one larger room with an upstairs. We have stayed in a couple different of their rooms and most recently stayed in the one with the upstairs. It was roomy for four people, but note that the upstairs has a very low ceiling. So what if they don't have all the big amenities? They have a fantastic view, in a great relaxing location. It's a great value at $80 a night, for comfy beds and hot water.
