We visited around 8:30 pm on a Saturday. We had just come from a softball game, my daughter in a dirty uniform. They seated us immediately and the service was superb. My daughter had the spaghetti & meatball. The spaghetti sauce was delicious and the meatball was tender and flavorful. I had the beef medallions cooked medium. They were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Oh, and did I mention the bruschetta?!?! One of the best we've had. I'd go back for the bruschetta & a glass of wine any day! As others have said yes...............comparing Maggiano's to Olive Garden is like comparing applies to oranges and Maggiano's is far better. Restaurant interior was darkened just right but the dining area was slightly crowded. Service was average for our party of 8 especially since we arrived early with a reservation at 5:15. Food was good but not spectacular, and serving portions were large. Where Maggiano's lost a star with me was that the value was quite low. No salad/soup/side with entrees; these had to be ordered separately a la carte. Even so, their entree prices were high enough to compare with Jaspers on State Line. I'm fully aware this is a chain restaurant (owned by the same company as Chili's), but I'll give credit where credit is due. We've eaten here about four times and the service and food has been consistently good. Maggiano's is listed on Open Table, so making a reservation is suggested to avoid a wait. I prefer to sit in the bar area because of the giant windows and natural light. It's also open seating, so you don't need to wait if a table is available. If you're in a hurry, it might not be your thing, because the bartenders are usually managing a number of bar tables, take-out orders, and making drinks for the waitstaff. However, we feel Marissa (our bartender and server) did a great job of taking care of us, despite how slammed she was this evening. It also gave us time to enjoy each course without feeling rushed. We started with the tomato caprese with balsamic and olive oil. It comes with a generous portion of sliced tomatoes and mozzarella. The zucchini fritte is one of our favorites with large slices of zucchini, lightly breaded to provide just a touch of crunchiness. It comes with a garlic-like ranch for dipping, but we always switch it up and ask for a side of marinara as well. They provide complimentary bread with Italian butter (olive oil, crushed pepper and parmesan) that's difficult to stop eating and could serve as an appetizer all on its own. When it was time to select an entree, I chose the linguine and red clam sauce, which was well seasoned with just a hint of heat. My wife had the lasagna and was equally pleased. If you select a "classic pasta," you also get to pick one from the list to bring home. Coming from an Italian family, I'm used to Sunday pasta dinners, and just like grandma's, Maggiano's will send you home full, satisfied and with a doggy bag. Buon Appetito! read more

Delicious bruschetta, a must try! The pasta was also delicious. I ordered the lighter take alfredo with whole wheat penne. I've also enjoyed the lighter take shrimp fra diavolo (my go-to order). I've tasted the pesto perlini Mozzarella- delicious chicken ricotta meatballs and delicious pesto sauce. The chicken Parmesan is not bad- there are tastier options, and my mom's recipe is better. I've also had their four cheese ravioli- also not a favorite. I love that they have whole wheat pasta as an option. Servers are always excellent and the ambience is great. Brunch is awesome! It's not well known yet, so it's never busy. They have amazing pancakes, $2 mimosas, and you can still order pasta if you're craving it. We also enjoyed their lattes. read more

While the server was very nice and attentive, the food was just sub par and the appetizer came out with our entrees. The main course tasted ok but the calamari appetizer was (a) served at the same time as the entree even though we specified we'd want to order this to snack on before the main courses come and (b) it was like warm. So they must have had our appetizer sitting around for some time. I've been craving lasagna for two weeks. I decided to give Maggiano's a chance. I ordered the the small side Italian salad, side of garlic broccoli, and lasagna. The salad was delicious and so fresh. The croutons are made in house. I was offered bread with the salad, which was freshly made and warm. The size was just right. Now, the lasagna. I've had better. The sauce is thick and tastes like tomato paste. I will say, I am a bit disappointed but at least I tried it for myself. The ricotta cheese wasn't the best either. I never received the garlic broccoli (mor was I charged for it). My waitress, Christina, apologized at the end. She blamed it on her training someone and forgot. They have a buy a specialty or classic pasta and you can take a classic pasta to go. I should have ordered the gnocchis and Italian sausage, then take the lasagna to go, but the gnocchi falls under the specialty (which you cannot take to go). I did order the Tiramisu ($8.30) to go. It's been a while since I've been to Maggiano's. When I saw that it was across the street from my hotel, I knew I had to go before I left town. Their lasagne is quite tasty! There was no wait as I was seated in the main dining room. I looked over the menu and could not find the lasagne! It wasn't there!! I started to get up and leave! But I saw that they had happy hour specials! I ordered the Chicken & Roasted Pepper Flatbread. It was very good, the crushed red pepper was fresh and spicy! It burned my lips a bit. I also ordered Lorenzo's Long Island! OH BOY! Somebody tell Lorenzo "Well Done, Sir!" Half way through and I'm feeling it. He had a heavy hand today... and it was well appreciated!! BRAVO! CORRECTION: I asked the waiter about the lasagne being missing froom the menu. He brought it back and showed me a hidden menu within the double sided menu! It is what you should expect from a chain restaurant. Tons of tables, tons of people, weak to poor service, and food that is just fine. Our server was nice, but didn't pour our wine (just opened it and put it on the table, no pour or taste), we had to ask for bread 3 times, and he checked on us enough to get our order. Our pastas were fine, huge portions. One of us got the Mushroom Ravioli, which had been under a heat lamp or salamander WAY to long. The manger that served it should be really embarrassed and when I commented on it the kid delivering the food agreed with me and left. It started out really rough. We had a 4:15 reservation. We were seated promptly and then we saw no one for 15-29 mins. A waiter from another table came up finally and apologized. He promised great service from then on and he delivered on that. We had two levels of management apologize and were given a free app (pepperoni risotto balls ). They have a deal where you buy a pasta meal and take one home. We started with a Caesar and Italian salad, both were very good. The bread they bring is awesome. I had the gnocchi with Italian sausage. Italian sausage was chunk not link with very good flavor. I couldn't finish it. My wife had chicken and fettuccine Alfredo. She felt the fettuccine was one of the best she's had. I'm looking forward to my take one lasagna tomorrow. I've been to Maggiano's in other cities. They actually closed down in Sacramento. When we were looking for restaurants we passed by here and decided to give this a try!! They have a nice variety menu items to choose from. We decided to order from their little family menu where you choose your meal and take home a second meal home. From that section, you can choose a different meal or the same one!! I decided on the spaghetti and meat sauce with a giant meatball!! They also serve delicious bread with olive oil and cracked black pepper. A very beautiful restaurant with a very nice waitress!! From our initial friendly greeting at the front door to leaving the restaurant! Overall, a very nice experience!!! Everyone was super friendly. Nicely decorated with clean bathrooms. Maggiano's is one of my favorite chains, and after couple road bumps, I had a great night. Getting the reservation itself was a bit frustrating. I placed a reservation for 8pm, and when the restaurant called to confirm, they asked me why I had placed two, with a duplicate at 5pm. I confirmed that we were only coming in once, twelve of us at 8:00. When we arrived, we had only a short wait for our table--which was set for eight people. Apparently we had been mixed up with another party, and it took the staff a couple minutes to find our original table to fit all the guests. I would have been more annoyed at all this had the staff not been so polite; our waiter and the manager apologized for the mix-up without creating excuses, and the problem was solved fairly quickly. In this instance and overall throughout the night, the service was excellent. My food, as I've come to expect, was really good. I ordered the mushroom ravioli (+ lasagna to take home), both of which ended up being fantastic. The mushroom ravioli was deliciously rich and creamy, and I'd certainly order it again. The take-home entrees are prepared at the beginning of the day and frozen, but when I ate my lasagna a couple days later, it seemed of no lesser quality than what I had eaten in the restaurant--with the classic pastas, you're really getting two full, yummy meals. One caveat I will mention is not everyone has the same experience I did; for example, a friend was not a fan of the vegetable penne and showed me a bunch of water that had pooled at the bottom of his dish. Overall, my food at Maggiano's was great and I'm really glad I came. Others had a different experience, but this might be attributed to the large size of our group and the fact that we were all ordering a la carte rather than family style. Furthermore, the service was excellent from start to finish, such that they might be trying to steal a certain other chain's slogan "When you're here, you're family." If you want some good pasta, I'd recommend stopping by. read more

What can I say it is a chain restaurant with a following. The staff must also work at the DMV because no one had any sense of urgency to seat their customers. We had a reservation and we had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time. Once we were seated our waitress took 10 minutes to even speak to us and then was inattentive at best. We ordered drinks and our meal and she forgot my sons drink and had to be reminded twice. She never came back to refill any of our drinks. Now on to the food I am giving them two stars because the food was decent. My beef contadina had good flavor and the meat was tender. The raviolis were delicious and the creme brûlée is one of my daughters favorites in KC. So with that said unless you have all night to wait and want subpar service at best the food is almost worth the wait? read more

This is my second time going to Maggiano's (the 1st time at this location). I took my husband out to celebrate him receiving his Master's Degree. The atmosphere was really nice with dim lights. We received a basket of bread upon sitting down. I got the Chicken Alfredo which was a little bland for my liking. Nevertheless, it was still pretty good. With my meal choice, I was actually able to get a pasta to take home so that was pretty rewarding! Towards the end of our meal, the server brought my husband the lemon cookies as a congratulatory "gift." I thought that was really sweet. The service here was impeccable. This was okay italian. It's not what the Godfather would have served ol' Fredo ova' here, but it cuts the parmesan well enough. The spaghetti...it's spaghetti...with a meatball the size of a baseball! The sauce is tangy and wonderful, and the meatball has an unctuous, almost fatty element to it; but that's I think what's nice about it. The bread is real bread, good gluten development, tough and hearty. Overall, the bread quality fits to the millimeter to what I'd come to expect from Maggiano's chain treatment: it's essentially an olive garden, if you remove the inherent hepatitis, turn down the lights, and add leather booths while increasing food quality half a click to a full click up, depending on your service experience. And how about BOGO take home deal? How is this not stealing again? The service at Maggiano's - if you are lucky enough to get it's full attention - is pretty fair to good. It seems they're just spread SUPER thin, so you may sit for 5, 10, perhaps even 13 minutes before someone gets your drink orders jotted down. The management is very amicable, however, so if in need, let them know if anything's the matter - they're there to make sure you enjoy your visit. A note on dessert: It's too rich. The Chocolate Zuccotto Cake is a boozy douzy! Really. They stick a steak knife deep within many layers of chocolate cake and liquered mousse, and you'll taste it. The problem is with the zuccotto, or the double-chocolate brownie, they're too rich with very little to cut that richness; frankly, they bummed me out a quarter of the way through. Perhaps some berries, some whipped cream, or more ice cream? I don't know, but they're dark, intense bites to swallow - the cake took me 3 days to get through. Maggiano's is a good time when they're humming healthily along - not so much when they're busied and bothered. Tried Maggianos for the first time and was horribly disappointed. The lasagna was flavorless and the sauce tasted worse than chef boyardee. Ordered crème brûlée and it had the consistency of scrambled eggs. I took one bite and spit it out. My aunt emigrated from Genoa. I told her about my experience and she spit on the ground and said this place is soiling the reputation of Italian cuisine. What a great experience start to finish. Came for a lunch and learn. The private room was setup and ready to go when I arrived 20 minutes early. Over the course of the hour long session we were served very discretely by the staff who kept whisking away our dirty plates and refilling our glasses with minimal interruptions. The food was served family style and was ABUNDANT. The meal started with appetizers: -giant ravioli (yum!) -bruschetta on toasts -breadcrumb stuffed mushrooms -spinach artichoke dip -Italian salad. We loved everything. It was enough to be a meal all on its own. Then the main courses arrived! -chicken Alfredo rigatoni with button mushrooms -sausage marinara rigatoni -chicken parmesan What a fabulous meal. I regretted having had the extra ravioli... No, I really didn't, I was just sad to only indulge in a small taste of each. Then came dessert! We were each given our own bowl of two scoops of ice cream with chocolate sauce and then a platter of chocolate flour less cake arrived. *groan* we somehow found a little room and enjoyed every chocolaty bite. I used to love Maggiano's but they have gone downhill in Overland Park. Our server today ambled around the dining room with her hands in her pockets and never really paid any attention to us. It was clear that the manager on duty also thought she wasn't a good server. The pace of our meal was quite "leisurely" (meaning it took a LONG time between ordering and receiving food). Based on the pricing, one would expect a relatively formal service. To have the server remove water glasses from the table to go fill them in the back of the house seems really odd. The food itself was inconsistent. The fried zucchini was good (not great). The salads were overdressed and limp. The flatbread pizza was tough and chewy. The sauce on the manicotti was horribly cloying. The server struggled to place plate in front of us - at one point, I thought she would break glasses or end up with her clothes in our food.
