I love Maggie's I usually stop everytime I'm in San Diego . The service was quick and speedy and ambiance casual. This is a nice little hole in the wall . The foods was good . I will say they have had better days this visit the carnitas were a bit dry and prefer when the I could dip my elote bites in sauce . This hidden treasure is easily one of the better spots for brunch within San Diego County! 12/22/2024. Cubana Torta with onion rings ($18.59 + $1.99): this gigantic torta plate is enough for two. The flavors are decent, but the quantity is grand, 4/5 stars overall. Onion rings: these were standard and better with ranch, 3.5/5 stars. Veggie hash ($16.85): the veggies were tender, caramelized, and well-seasoned. The scrambled eggs had an Eggslut (restaurant) cookery, 5/5 stars! We were seated immediately by the hostess and our server, Wendy, was outstanding. She took our orders quickly, kept our drinks refilled, voluntarily gave us boxes and a bag for our leftovers, and all with a big smile on her face that was contagious. read more

We popped in after a visit to the dmv. It was not busy, but I wouldn't expect it to be around 10am on a Tuesday. Waitress was efficient and attentive but not annoying. The decor is rather...dated but honestly are you expecting chic from a small strip mall cafe? Probably not. Our meal came quickly, and honestly probably one of the best chilaquiles I've had in San Diego. The elote bites are going to be studied and recreated at my home. They were delish! This place sucks - $20 breakfast plates with tiny portions. On top of that, per our waiter, "hey guys, we made an extra Bloody Mary, would anybody at this table want it?" He then proceeded to charge me $15 for a Bloody Mary I didn't even order.... Avoid this place like the plague. read more

Maggie's Cafe is a very popular brunch spot in San Diego. I first came here many years ago, and I remember being blown away by their food. So I came again recently, and wow it has maintained its excellence. This spot sits in a relatively unknown plaza, but don't let that fool you. The service is always very friendly when you walk inside, and the interior feels like a traditional old school diner. The country fried steak and eggs are amazing, as I love the gravy that it is paired with. Overall, Maggie's Cafe is a great brunch spot that I will definitely be back to for many years! read more

Getting seated was a pretty smooth process and they were nice enough to let us move to a different area because the window was too blinding in the spot we were put in. We order the chicken fried steak, some fried corn balls, and the Chilaquiles. Everything was delicious. We had a main waitress but there were a couple people also checking on us so our tables were cleared of dishes efficiently and we were able to pay for a check without any issue. It was all around very nice and I would go again. I hope they would be able to make the place a bit brighter in the future because I think that would help a lot with the blinding sunlight coming through the window. read more

My husband and I were waiting for IKEA to open, so we decided to grab breakfast nearby. Maggie's did not disappoint! Excellent service from Gabby. I had an iced caramel latte & the breakfast quesadilla. It's huge and I took 2 pieces home, along with salsa. My husband had a coffee & the meat lovers omelette with potatoes. We both agree that the potatoes are the best we have had anywhere in SD county! Both meals were seasoned perfectly. 10/10. Cannot wait to come again. read more

We came on a Sunday morning. It wasn't too crowded at 10:30a. We were seated right away in a nice roomy booth by a nice hostess and the waiter was super friendly as well. They have a bar and a two room dining area. There are other tables outside the front of the restaurant as well. They have TVs all around the restaurant all playing different sports. There were many yummy sounding choices to make on the menu. My friend had a coffee and I liked the cute mug . I settled with a mango mimosa that wasn't too sweet with a Tajin rim and topped with a strawberry. The drink was pretty decent. I feel they could have added a bit more flavoring in order for it to actually taste more like mango. I ordered the carnitas skillet. The carnitas itself was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but good enough. I feel they could have been better by making them more salty and crispier. The potatoes were very good and the egg done to a perfect over medium as I requested. The waiter was very attentive, which I truly appreciated. I was touched that I saw a prayer request box near the cash register. Nice touch! I will be back one day. read more

I've revisited numerous times over the past couple of years after my last review. The food has gone downhill unfortunately. Tried: Burgers - meat was dry and overcooked. Country fried steak - potatoes were good. Eggs were dry. Country fried steak was overcooked and gristly. When getting it to go, the plastic utensils often break, especially the knife, when trying to cut the steak. The price has also increased quite a bit and they no longer offer the Yelp discount. Two entrees costs about $40 now. read more

Came in here because I'm always interested to see what strip mall restaurants are like cause sometimes you find a diamond in the rough. Maggie's was pretty OK wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. The space was fine. Amazing amounts of parking service was adequate. I will say that the prices were surprisingly high for the space and location. read more

The lady who helped us was extremely friendly and helpful, even with all my questions. The food came out pretty quickly as well! I ordered the harvest omelette (added sausage) with the potatoes! My friend ordered the the 3 eggs special. Honestly there were so many really good choices! My omelette was good but did not blow me away. However the potatoes... yum! My friend also enjoyed her entree. Service was really good throughout checking on us asking if we needed any refills but never overbearing. I would definitely return! read more

This place is truly a hidden gem. The chilaquiles were the best I've ever had. Tortillas were crispy and the sauce was not too spicy. I had the red and green sauce. The green sauce was the spicier of the two. The rice and beans were delicious as well. They also have a doggy menu. Service was amazing and the staff is super friendly. We came here for brunch since this locally owned restaurant had a huge variety of breakfast and lunch classics. It was hard to chose just one dish because they had so many unique tantalizing selections. The spicy Benedict is fantastic. We subbed the chorizo for smoked ham and it was outstanding. We finally chose the chili verde omelet filled with carne asada. It came with big portions of beans, potatoes and bread. We also got the carnitas skillet and added some tortillas on the side. The skillet had grilled onions, grilled peppers, potatoes and more. It was fabulous! The omelet was very good with great flavor from the chili verde sauce. Service was friendly and welcoming here. Found this place that still served breakfast late. They close at 3pm. Service was quick and got the carnitas skillet and California eggs Benedict. Both were good and tasty. My only issue was the egg on the Benedict was overcooked. The egg yoke was solid. The potato's were nice and crispy. Can't wait to come back to try other items on the menu. Really glad we stopped in for breakfast between our daughter's doctor appointments. The last time I had Maggie's was in 2020, but my husband got me food to-go. I got a vegetarian omelet + piña colada smoothie and they did not disappoint. For this most recent visit, I got Maggie's Chilaquiles w/ salsa verde & eggs over medium -- so good! The salsa had good heat to it, which I wasn't expecting, but I loved it. My husband got the skillet and he loved it as well, the chorizo was really good. Our kids split the grilled cheese with French fries, zero complaints. Our server, Donny, was awesome, along with the other staff members working. Great service has been really hard to come by since covid, so it was a breath of fresh air to receive it -- we'll definitely be back :) read more

First off this place is a gem friendly waiters, good vibes, and delicious food. One question though, what makes biscuit and gravy such a great dish? The gravy and Maggie's gravy is the real deal. This is a simple dish which many places settle on a mediocre gravy but not Maggie so thank you for holding them biscuits down with that gravy. Maggie's potatoes, solid a nice rendition of some home style potatoes. I have gone this far so I won't leave it out the egg it was cooked properly per my request paired well like it does with all breakfast lunch and dinner items. I've been here twice-the 2nd time was on accident...if I wrote a review the first time, I would have remembered not to come back for breakfast. The restaurant is small, but nice. The service was pretty good. We ordered the regular Belgium Waffle (dry and flavorless). I also had the California Omelet. Sadly, this also wasn't good. Our party of 3 went at around 8am on a weekday and there were plenty of seating available. Lots of parking up front. Our server Donny was attentive, helpful, and very personable! The menu had lots of choices that we had a difficult time deciding but our party ended up ordering: -Chile Verde Omelet ($18.50): huge portion served with tender Carne Asada, served with side of beans, potatoes, sliced peppers, and 2 pieces of toast. Such a great cafe for delicious brunch! This location was in walking distance from my place so my housemate and I decided to give it a try. When we went, we were pleasantly surprised there were so many people- but knowing the more people there is, more likely tastes good especially since its in a small neighborhood area. We waited about 15 mins and then got seated. I decided to order a mimosa to try and got the crab cake benedict. The mimosa was good! The menu said it was $7 but when the bill came back I was pleasantly surprised that it was $5. But wow the crab cake benedict was so good. The flavors melded together, especially with the chipotle hollandaise sauce which was not too spicy. Usually I don't like potatoes at brunch but these were fluffy and super flavorful! I finished everything on my plate including the juicy fruit. I would definitely love to come back here for brunch again. The restaurant is in a huge plaza, so plenty of parking. We walked in and were seated right away. The server was nice and friendly. I won't lie, I wasn't impressed by the food here at all and won't be coming back. If you check in on yelp you get 10% off your check, so don't forget to check in! Food review: Machaca con huevos (2/5): The eggs were dried out and over cooked. The meat was not seasoned and super tough to chew. There were also way too many bell peppers in my dish. I had more bell peppers than eggs or meat. Chorizo skillet (4/5): This dish definitely had more flavor than the machaca. Everything blended well and tasted good together. An experienced food handler, he has overseen the management at food chain restaurants. Through ambition, he set out to create his own restaurant with his family in order to provide his community with a relaxing environment where one can enjoy time with their families and their meals. Thus he created Maggie's Café after successfully running a catering business and a small restaurant in the Grantville area.

Maggie's Cafe, in my opinion, is what I would describe as an old school, Californian cafe. The service was very, very good. Our server really seemed like she enjoyed working at Maggie's. She was friendly and informative when it came to recommending menu options. After a brief conversation with our friendly server, I decided on their breakfast burrito. I've had quite a few breakfast burritos and I've found that they tend to suffer from a couple of things. A lack of acidity or a lack off the substance. Maggie's breakfast burrito didn't quite have the acidity I would like (this can be achieved with salsa or tomato's cooked with the contents of the burrito. The burrito overall was pretty good though, the flavours were present and the eggs weren't overcooked. They were just about cooked, which is my preference. My overall impressions of this place is it's a bit pricier than I'd usually want to spend, but you still gotta try it for the open kitchen and bacon bacon bacon. Really looks like most people pop in here during lunch, but I went and did the dinner late afternoon. There were probably 3 other groups here, but with the limited seating, that was just fine. Luckily the bar was completely clear and I found my spot right in front of the stoves. The set up here is tiny and intimate with the open kitchen largely exposed to the bar. All my oo's and ah's would be right in front of the people who cooked it for me. Menu was high up above on a lit up chalkboard with about 10 things written on there. I recently visited Maggie's Cafe on a bustling Saturday morning, and I must say, it lived up to the hype! I ordered the chicken fried steak, and it was absolutely excellent. The texture was spot on--crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. To top it off, my over-easy eggs were perfectly cooked; the runny yolk complemented the steak beautifully. The sausage gravy was another standout--it had a fantastic flavor and just the right texture, rich and hearty without being too heavy. Now, let's talk about the food. Oh boy, the food was incredible! We started with the Elote Bites, and they were to die for. They had a nice little kick, and the gravy for the biscuits and gravy was simply magical. Not many places get this simple thing right, but Maggie's definitely did. What a great find! We have been living in Serra Mesa for over a year and we finally decided to give Maggie's a try. To be honest, the Yelp rating is what drew us to this local gem. They have great daily specials and happy hour(4pm - 8pm!). We tried the stuffed French toast, which was fantastic. The carnitas skillet is also wonderful(loved the potatoes). We also got two smoothies: the strawberry blast and the mixed berry. Both were delicious and filling. They also have a beer and wine bar with at least four local beers on tap. The best country fried steak in town! I particularly enjoyed their in house bourbon sauce that accompanied my meal, adding an extra layer of flavor, 10/10! I am a Serra Mesa resident. This place opened few years ago and we've been there maybe 4 times. Unfortunately, the service is horrible and the food quality has come down significantly. We went there and the person greeting us had such a bad attitude, then we found out she was the manager. She is Latina on her 50's just overall just didn't make us feel welcome. Then the food came, I ordered fish and Chips. The oil dripped from the fish witch it means they fried it in cold oil. I was sick all night. My sister order a salad and she was very sick as well. The plates are overloaded with potatoes, which seems like a way to skimp on the main ingredients. On top of that, the food has become noticeably greasier, leaving me feeling heavy after a meal. There is no shortage of places to get a great burger in San Diego and I have made an effort to get to many of them. However Maggie's Cafe is by far my favorite. Burgers are fresh, not frozen and you can taste the difference. The toppings are fresh too. I always get there poutine every time I go and it is worth the upgrade from plain old fries. read more

If you are going to title your restaurant with "cafe" in it at least have some dang coffee! Great service but we sat outside and there were flys everywhere. It just ruined the restaurants presentation after that. Food got to the table and beans were watery and runny with no flavor plus everything else tasted a little off. Wouldn't come back. read more

Customer service was outstanding. Good was delicious and prices were great. Cherry on top was them bringing my daughter a balloon... As simple as that sounds, my daughter has been sick for 5 days and this was the first time in days that we were able to eat breakfast with out worrying of she would be OK. My first time coming here, everything looks delicious and the décor is nice. I had the chicken wrap, which was fresh, and the sauce it comes with is also very good. They have a very extensive menu, and there are so many other things I want to come back and try. I honestly can't believe I've lived in San Diego for almost 10 years and am just now discovering this spot!
