We were glad we came when we did because we were able to get seated in less than five minutes. Since we were a party of six, we definitely ordered quite a bit. We got two medium pizzas, some pasta, and wings. The pizzas were super delicious! We got the Bambino's Chicken Pesto and Fito's Favorite pizzas. They came out hot and were loaded with toppings. The crust was nice and crispy, and the topping-to-crust ratio was perfect. I'd definitely say the pizzas were my favorite out of everything we ordered. The pasta was okay, not my favorite, but still enjoyable. The noodles were definitely cooked more on the well-done/soft side, whereas I personally prefer my pasta al dente. The pasta was also super saucy, and there was quite a bit of it, so you definitely get a good portion. The wings were pretty much what you'd expect from a standard wing. They were juicy and had a nice flavor on their own. Paired with the dipping sauces, though, they took on some different flavors, which I really enjoyed. I also really liked the vibe here. The walls were lined with album covers, which gave the place a really fun and homey feel. It had a cozy atmosphere that made it a nice spot to wind down and just enjoy the vibes.

There was no cups in our hands. Ambiance was hip and fun... Until, you realize you can hear the staff's entire conversation. They were having a tough time. But there's a Long wait, staff standing around. Manager could be more polite, was brash. Also Sounds like you keep running out of prepared ingredients and need to have the main chef stop prepping pizzas to cut cheese, pineapple etc... yes i heard a lot of the conversations. Take a look at Tropicali service goes a long way. You have something going on here and you just need to up your game. One star to get attention. I'm in Big Bear a lot, I'll give another shot. What made it even worse was the lack of concern or urgency when we brought these issues to their attention. Then came the steaks. For a restaurant calling itself a steakhouse, the steaks were absolutely terrible. My steak was supposed to be medium rare, but it was completely overcooked. There was nothing medium rare about it, and honestly, I was disgusted by the entire experience. I've been to some of the top steakhouses, and I have never experienced service or food this disappointing. We were so dissatisfied that we ended up having to go buy takeout pizza afterward just to have something decent to eat. We waited all week to try this place, and unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment from beginning to end. I've already told my family about our experience, and I'll be sharing it with my friends as well. Extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this experience to anyone.

They have a self-order kiosk now, which helps keep things moving, but I'd still be prepared for a wait when it's busy. Considering how good the food is, I completely understand why so many people are here. The staff deserves a mention too. They're always so kind, welcoming, and high-energy, which makes the experience even better despite how busy it can get. I seriously love Tropicali. We finished the soup and salad and then still had to sit there waiting even longer for our main dishes. At that point my fiancé finally said, "Let's go. This is ridiculous." The restaurant was not packed at all. It was actually pretty empty, so there really did not seem to be any reason for the food to be taking this long. I went back up front and told them we were leaving and would pay for what we had already eaten and drank. Of course, right as we were ready to leave, they were finally bringing out our entrées. By then we were done waiting. My fiancé had already walked out, and I told them no, we were leaving. It was just a very disappointing experience from beginning to end. The restaurant itself is charming, but the service completely ruined it for us. There was very little communication, no real explanation for the delays, and we should not have had to repeatedly get up and ask what was going on just to receive our food in a reasonable amount of time.

So its our first time in Big Bear and we decide to get the full mountain experience. Should we go skiing at Bear Mountain? uh-uh, maybe snowboarding at Snow Summit? nah! lets start yelping and find some eats! We find this generally well reviewed Italian joint and they left a menu at our cabin, we figured its meant to be. we head over and the place is packed. there's a 30 minute wait , but the guy taking names tells my bro they can take our order and have it ready at our table by the time we sit. I am stoked. what a brilliant concept( not sure Jerry Seinfeld would find it very original though). Me and my bro chat up the lady taking our order, I'm joking with her about giving me some tips on where to find good Italian food on the mountain, she gets us some french vanilla caps while we wait. this place is looking promising. We order all our food sans-drinks. Figured we can order at the table when were there. We order a peperoni and mushroom pie to share and everybody orders their individual orders. Chicken Alfredo, 2 lasagnas, spaghetti with meatballs, taste of Italy trio. a douche in nice guys clothing comes and asks if we would mind splitting up our group because he has two large groups to accommodate. I instantly imagine him trying to split the other group and him getting a hard time about it from the other group. Being the cool dudes that we are, we're like "no problem". We get seated right next to the huge table that would have easily accommodated our party of 9. It sits there clean, lonely. Just waiting for people to eat on it the entire time we are at the restaurant. and what happened to this other imaginary large group, unwilling to bend in their seating arrangements? They never come. Our food gets there a full 30 minutes after we've sat down. So what of this great time-saving strategy of ordering food while we wait? They never get our drink order, the pizza is soggy and the lasagna tasted like Stouffers. I glance over at the table where the other people from our group are at and all I see is low rate food from a low rate joint. Oh how bad Italian food must be in Big Bear if this is the gathering place for the best. During our 30 minute wait for a table I saw a picture in honor of the departed owner Mr Maggio. I bet he's turning over in his grave to see his place run so bad. read more

I dont recommend going here biggest waste of time and ruined our day. The manager or owner whoever he was at the main counter so rude. Our family was seated by the waiter and given menus and we waited for almost 30 minutes before I finally walked up and asked when someone would come to take out order and said I was lying when I said the waiter did not tell me to come up and order. He then was so rude when He asked what my table number was and I said I didn't see one and he made made me point which one and then said "like I can tell which one it is by you pointing" then when I finally got to order he swiped my credit card like 10 times on his machine and bent the magnetic bar code on the because he was so forceful and I couldn't use it the rest of our vacation which really sucked. I saw another family sit down and I saw them waiting so I told them they needed to go up and order and they were happy to find that out. What place has someone be seated at their tables and then makes them get back up again to go order? Why would they think people would just assume what they need to do? Then the food took forever to come so an hour later since getting there we started eating which ruined our plans for the night and our kids were going crazy. They were good about coming every 5 minutes while we are to ask if we were done yet to clear our plates so that they could have our table for someone else.. Went there today for lunch, pizza is sub par... they make cheese pizzas and just heat it up with your topping choice. Tried the original sub, it was decent but lacked flavor unless you dumped Italian dressing on it and to top off my "wonderful" experience I had a side salad and ordered ranch. I was Leary when I confirmed if it was ranch and not blue cheese due to an allergy and the server wasn't sure. After smelling and tasting I assumed it was ranch as he told me, but they make there dressing in house and the blue cheese is essentially ranch with small crumbles in it... after rushing to the bathroom to throw up, I was left with an upset/empty stomach which led to a migraine by the end of the day. All because they can't even tell the difference in their own dressing. Was never offered any type of alternative or refund. Well, me and my family came to big bear for the weekend. When we got to our cabin we were starving even though i ate wendy's before we got up to the mountain. Anyways, my two uncles found this menu from this place called "Maggio's", seriously i didn't care, all i wanted to do was eat. So they yelped this place becasue there are now huge fans of this site soo i signed up. Anyways, we got to this place and it was packed so I thought it MUST BE GOOD!The wait was about 40 minutes so they ordered because supposedly our order would be ready by the time we get our order. We got our table and we got our food like 30 minutes later. I was like fine, whatever! I ordered the chicken alfredo... let me tell you, IT SUCKED!! And also the guy never asked what we wanted to drink.The chicken tasted as if they bought it from the grocery store and cooked it there. I had to give this place a try! I've been there a few times now and I have not been disappointed! The food was delicious! The portions were generous with awesome flavor and I could taste the freshness of the veggies. Especially the South of the Border or Vato Pizza! I saw them making the dough for the pizza when I went on one occasion because it was so busy. They make their own bread too! So fresh. My favorite sandwich is the pastrami. I noticed they had gotten some new tables and lights in their dining room. It looks really classy. They said they aren't done yet...I wonder what else they are going to do? It's hard to improve on a place that's already perfect! I had to ask, and I even learned that this place has been in business since the 1980's Wow! My family likes the food here but the service really is horrible. When I go to a restaurant and are spending money, I expected to be treated well. The owners barely notices us and are rude. We have been there several times and after the 5th time, we have decided not to patronize this place anymore. We now rather drive another 15 minutes into town to go to either Saucy Mama's or Paoli's. Seriously, is it really that hard for you to say hello and treat us like valued customers. We frequently go to Big Bear and patronize several restaurants. We used to go there whenever we go along with Dynasty (Chinese/Mongolian), BJ's, Boo Bear's, etc. The other restaurants in Big Bear are so much better! Our go to pizza joint is now Saucy Mama... unless they are too busy then we go to Paoli's. read more

Maggio's is one of my favorite spots for Italian food and pizza in Big Bear, a true local gem! Whether sitting down to dine in or ordering out, the experience is consistently enjoyable and kid friendly. The place does get busy, especially during peak hours, so expect some wait time for your food. I often place my order early or suggest placing your order, running a quick errand, and then coming back. From their gourmet pizzas to the regular ones, everything is solid and consistently decent. Worst food ever!!! JUST DON'T GO THERE! My Mexican wife can make better "authentic" Italian food! Their pasta sauce tasted like they just opened a can of tomato sauce and poured it over pasta. Very busy on Thanksgiving weekend, tried calling ahead for a carry out order and no one answered the phone, tried several times, no answer...bad form. When we finally got our pizza about an hour later, it was insanely salty. There was more salt on it then cheese! We were up at Maggio's Pizza for the Labor Day weekend always try to stop in for a bit to eat whenever we are in the Big Bear area. The pizza was a good as ever and the salad was tasty. There is bar seating which is situated next to the register where you place your order. There is plenty of parking even though it is in a strip mall. We were pleased with the pepperoni pizza. If I were to order it again, I would double the pepperoni. It was nice and crispy. The garlic bread was pretty good too. Salad ingredients were fresh and crunchy. Ok So the girl took out (from the Warmer) both pizzas and bites and handed them to me - to get cold while I waited for the small chicken Caesar. I asked her to put them back in the warmer. They then brought me out a bag with the salad. Glad I checked it Prior to leaving - no chicken at all or extra dressing. Don't know what really happened next but waited a little bit for the small chicken Caesar salad and my warmed 'again' pizzas. Left. Mind you - if you've never been here the parking lot is a nightmare - almost parked in front of stater bros to pickup. Arrived home and unpacked what we hoped was good food- but it was all pretty much inedible. The Caesar salad chicken was extremely rubbery - croutons were hard as a rock. The garlic bites were (as were the pizzas) very chewy dough bites, I mean chewy- no crispyness. The pizzas were the same. I'm usually good at explaining things with great detail- but we couldn't get past the chewiness. Nothing was notable to mention. It was an inedible meal. When we called the manager on duty, literally said. " I've never had anyone comment that before." Ok Great ! He proceeded to refund our bill- but with that comment and the food quality - the look of the place- I would definitely not recommend red baron - heard saucy mama was better pizza.

We ordered the pecan cinamon roll French toast and country style eggs Benedict with an English muffin on the side. We had been told the French toast came with a side, so we ordered bacon on a whim although we didn't really want a side. The country style Benny was good. The French toast wasn't great, and just seemed to be made from store bought white bread with pecans sprinkled on top. We received the English muffin and took a bite in it and spit it out immediately realizing it had been sent out with a big section covered in mold. We also received the bill and saw we were charged an extra 5.50 for bacon we were told came with the meal. The staff gave us a dessert for the mold but it was just very, very off-putting.
