This place is currently "average". The service is slow and the prices are about 15-20 percent higher than comparable restaurants in the area. They do not offer a military discount, which is another ten percent hit to our pocketbook. Serving portions are smaller than Kowloons and the menu is more limited. It wasnt terrible but neither was it great. I recommend you stick with Kowloons in Schertz. read more

We went previously and they messed up our order. We called and they said they would replace the food next time we go. Well the great manager only wrote down 1 thing we had. I was told when I phoned in my order they would call me back, Nope! I called back and then placed my order. So frustrating!!! Chinese Restaurants come and go but most have the basic components, (Menu Items), down! If you google Fried Rice the ingredients include eggs, onions, vegetables, soy sauce and in a special menu items, meats and seafood is added. Fired rice is offered with every meal at Magic China but it is just fried rice, Nothing Else? I have been all over the world in 40 years of Military and never seen plain fried rice! When mentioning it to the young staff they just didn't seem to care. This is problematic when trying to get what you want with a meal when they have to delete the plain fried rice and add real fried rice. They also offer the choice of regular white rice with the meals instead! Called yesterday, or tried too! Had to call 5 times before anyone answered! I thought they had closed?? When I picked up my order, they said 15 Minutes, I arrived after 20 minutes, waited another 10 minutes, there was no customers in the restaurant? Why couldn't they answer the phone? This is one of the better Chinese (American) restaurants in the San Antonio and outskirts area. Their hot chili oil sauce is the best!!! It's actually spicy!! Their fried rice has that wok taste that you only get cooking at high temperatures and it's seasoned well easy on the soy. My favorites are sesame chicken, general tsos chicken and Mongolian beef. I didn't give it five stars because the food is not exceptional and the dinner portions are really small for the price. Also, they barely put vegetables on the entrees. So, if you're like me and have gone all ove San Antonio, Cibolo, Schertz, etc., you'll find this place a tasty breath of fresh air! read more

Went there on the way to Austin from San Antonio. It's a small well arranged place. We asked for a lunch special (6.5 dollars). This included choice of soup, egg roll, and a main course. The food was great and so was the waiter. Would highly recommend this place. read more

Ate here for the first time. My wife isn't a huge fan of Chinese food, but she said it was the best hot and sour soup she has ever had. Boy was I greatly disappointed. i had such high expectations. Having lived in cities with designated "China Towns" the question was not are they any good but who was the best. Much like BBQ or Mexican food here in Texas. I had given up on trying to find "good" Chinese food until I was told about Magic China. The reviews have also been mostly very positive so last night my wife and I decided that this was where we would go to celebrate my birthday. We found the restaurant without much trouble and there were only 4 or 5 tables with people at them when we entered. We did not see anyone to seat us and the decor was very causal so we picked a table by the window. We were acknowledged shortly afterwards and indicated that there were the two of us. We were then ignored as shortly afterwards a group of 4 or 5 came in, were seated and given napkins, forks, and menus while we still waited. Eventually a nice young lady came over and we gave us these things and we ordered some water for now and asked for some chopsticks. We looked over the menu and were very happy to see "Orange Beef" on the menu. We prepared to order and waited for our waitress to return. She did, we ordered and then we waited. After a little bit, I injected myself with insulin (being a diabetic) and incorrectly thinking that our food would be coming out soon. We waited and waited. She finally returned and said that our dinner would be coming out soon. She asked if we wanted our soup or egg rolls. We had preferred for all at once, but it had been awhile and the insulin had been given so we said yes. My wife got her Hot and Sour soup which was hot and very good. We each got our egg rolls which were luke warm and "meh". We then waited. We had our Orange Beef brought out at which time we were informed that the owner and main cook had had recent surgery and that there was only one cook working and thus why it was taking so long. This is information that perhaps should have been shared when we first sat down perhaps. We then had my wife's order of sesame chicken brought out. We were not asked if we wanted extra plate (s) and so asked for this and again for chopsticks. We were now told that they DID NOT HAVE CHOPSTICKS. The two dinners were pretty good but by then, all we wanted was to get out. WE stacked the plates and waited and amazingly the check came right away. We probably will give this a second chance, but think that we will call ahead and do take out. I really wanted to love this place and say great things. Perhaps without the owner present (not sure if he was there and not cooking or just not there) this is the reason, but I 'd give the food a 3-4 and the service a 1. read more

Sitting in Magic China right now waiting on our food. The food is actually pretty good but the service is horrible! We ordered two entrees for me and my daughter while my wife only ordered soup and steamed rice. The soup was great and we all got that at the same time. That was shortly followed by my wife's steamed rice and 10 minutes later we are still waiting on the rest of the food for the table. The service makes this good place almost unbearable! I overheard the other waitress saying something about someone out for surgery and only having one cook...who the hell cares!! The prices haven't dropped any due to their lack of service!! Bottom line...good food here but stay away due to lack of service! A shame really because the alternative is Kowloon...oh well at least the food is decent there while the service is pretty good! read more

After hearing some really good reviews, we were so excited to try this place. We ordered 3 entrees to go- sesame chicken, general tso's chicken, and Mongolian beef. It ended up being close to $50, which I wouldn't have been so upset about if the food had been really good; unfortunately, that was not the case. The two chicken entrees were ok, but the Mongolian beef was not even edible! We each had a bite and threw it away (I HATE wasting food!). It smelled terrible and tasted even worse. I don't think I have ever been somewhere that the food was so bad that I couldn't even eat it. This was really disappointing, as we like to support local places; but unfortunately we will not be returning. read more

I stop going to China restaurants because the quality of the food had became sub par. My friend invited me to lunch and we just happened to pass by the Magic China and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did. We ordered the lunch special for under $7.00 and received soup, egg roll, fried rice and your choice of meat. It was absolutely DELICIOUS!!!! Ate here by myself last night at 6pm. There were maybe 10 other customers there in a dining space large enough for maybe 30 or 40, so not busy at all on a Monday night. I waited about 5 minutes before they seated me. There was one large screen TV playing country music videos at an appropriate decibel level...loud enough to enjoy but still have a table conversation. Good menu choices, pretty much hitting all the common Chinese food dishes. I had a medium order of their Hot & Sour soup and the Szechuan Beef dinner. Soup came out quickly and was crazy hot, just the way soup should be served! Good amount of spiciness to it, but not even a trace of meat. Still, it tasted good and silky and I ate the whole bowl. The Szechuan Beef also came out sizzling hot with a side of fried rice and an eggroll. I thought it was a little too sweet and not spicy enough, but it had tons of meat and cabbage and onions and bell pepper in it, so the flavors were all there. My server was Italia (her name is Italia) and she was pleasant and efficient and never more than a few minutes away from asking me if everything was okay. I have come here for lunch a couple of times and absolutely love their egg drop soup. The serving size is great on all of their lunch specials. The staff is always nice and attentive, the Mongolian beef is the greatest only second to the egg drop soup. I will definitely be coming here more often. read more
