When you go to the Magic Time Machine you need to have an open mind. First of all this is a fun place for kids. The servers are all dressed up in characters and they really put the whole act on. You never know who you will get. Tonight we had Bethany from Jumanji (Jack Black). In full character Bethany put on a great show. My kids who are 12 and 8 really enjoyed the atmosphere and all that was offered. There was also face painting for kids to get into character as well. When you walk in you if feels like you are walking into the 70s and 80s type home. Complete with vintage furniture and you can spot some 8 Tracks on the Ceiling. There is a lot going on and there are random characters walking around. The food was decent. I mean I think coming in your are paying for the experience. We ordered a few drinks from the bar which were tasty. My kids ordered magic potions drinks. They come in different colors. My daughter described it as sprite with lemonade mixed. It came out all bubbly and looked like a magic potion. We ordered the chips and spinach and artichoke dip. It had great flavor. For entrees we ordered the young adult cheese pizza which my son who is 12 could have ordered the kids pizza and it would have been more than enough. The special was chicken fried chicken which was alright. We also ordered the chicken Alfredo and grilled chicken Parmesan. All great flavor and good size portions. With our meal came the salad bar with few options and fresh warm bread. For dessert we ordered the fudge cake it's great for sharing. My son had a fun time here celebrating his birthday. While the staff members played the parts of various cartoon and movie characters, he enjoyed interacting with them. The only flaw and the reason for the three stars was the fairly expensive and just average cuisine. Since our first visit, we've been back a few times, largely for the ambiance and the drinks he enjoys, but I now usually eat before I go. I LOVE THIS PLACE I came for a birthday and I loved it the food was delicious and they had balloon animals hats and many more ! I got a jesters hat and it was amazing! And this place is amazing for children or people looking for something unique and I loved the waiters ! And I love when you go to the bathroom and they ask for your name and they say " your not the only one in the bathroom (name ) " and many more sayings and I loved the drinks they had dry ice as "potions" and they were delicious and it definitely deserves a five star ! read more

Napoleon dynamite and the staff who helped seat us were the only enjoyable part of mtm. The food was bad...Especially the chicken Parmesan. My poor husband was starving and ready to munch down but was very disappointed - he described it as freezer flavored chicken with a watery tomato sauce. My burger was ok but the bacon was so thin and fatty it melted in my mouth The salad bar was sad. And the carpeted floor was sticky when you walked on it Overall characters were fun and are probably what keep this place open. We forgot to try drinks but they seemed reasonably priced and looked like fun cruise drinks. Food is average and pricy. Good place for families but not for dates. Gets loud when it's busy. So much so that you cant even hear the "funny" announcements over the P.A. If possible request a booth because sitting in the main floor area defeats the purpose of going. You don't seem to get as much attention from the characters as you do in a booth. read more

We were absolutely mortified by the behavior of the three waiters who came to our table. We had two tables full of minors and the sexual innuendo was in such poor taste and bordered on harassment. Willy Wonka made suggestive comments about licking plates clean..."you all seem like you're good at licking things." Napoleon Dynamite made more sexually inappropriate comments than I could count "would you like to feel my hot buns?" When cautioning us about the dishes he was serving, he warned against the dishes with dripping juices: "but that's how you know you're having a good time--when the juices are dripping." A sleazy woman in a black catsuit strutted around the tables and reprimanded my kids for having dirty thoughts. When my wife asked to use the bathroom, Napoleon said he would show her the way and screamed to the entire restaurant: "Get out of the way, this woman has to pee!" We were shocked, offended, hurt, and deeply uncomfortable with the entire experience. We had to send plates and utensils back because they were dirty. The quality of the food was below average, not that it mattered. The harassment we endured ruined our appetites. Shame on you, Magic Time Machine. We called earlier and asked if this was a family-friendly establishment. They assured us that it was. We clearly define family-friendly differently. If you share my definition steer clear of this pit. read more

They need to train their workers on how to be respectful of disabilities. Our waiter was inappropriate to our relative with autism and did not catch on when we tried to redirect him nicely. This place is so nostalgic to me, I would come here back in the 80's with my parents. I finally took my kids who loved the eclectic ambiance and waiters snd waitresses dressed as various actors snd characters. We got Forest Gump, it was before my kids time but they still loved the character the waiter played and how he played the part. The food is not all that great but it was more for the novelty of it. The kids loved it so much they wanted to come the next day and do excited to come. We requested Napoleon Dynamite because they could relate to them more but since it was short notice they could promise anything. They still wanted to come a roll the dice. When you ask for a table they go through yelp and give you an estimated time which is pretty accurate snd you can keep track where your place is. I would give this a full five stars but the food can be a bit improved but not a deal breaker. Im sure we will hit this place every time we are in San Antonio. read more

Waitstaff awsome. What they are trying to accomplish is really sweet & a lot of fun. The restaurant was surprisingly clean considering the age and the thousands of quests they have served. New carpets would be nice, but it was dust free & solid surfaces were spotless, YET.... The food & drinks were poor. We did not complain so I do not know how they would of fixed it. Margarita- zero flavor, no tart or tang. Calamari- fried pale, bland Honey Butter- taste like cheap margarine Prime rib- med rare, just fair, chewy Salad- strange "croutons nugget," looked like a chicken nugget but was all crumbs Mash potatoes- not instant, but the texture was off, like they had been over whipped Gravy- salty Shrimp- my daughter liked the 6 she had. I put my family on the waitlist for 5. Waitlist said 45 min. We got there and were basically told the waitlist was useless because it doesn't take into account the people that are walk ins without being on the waitlist. I was told it would be another 45 minute wait. We decided to leave, not worth the wait. Staff were not very nice about it either their excuse was that corporate makes them use the waitlist but they don't go by it. read more

I have been going to the MTM for over 20 years and this trip wasn't the best for me and my family. The food was not very good. We had appetizers and they were cool to touch, our main dishes were not the best. I got the eves cut and it was the toughest meat ever. Our server was alright, not the best that we have experienced. There busboys and bartender weren't in costume, which is how they have always been. And the ac must have been broke. Cause it was so uncomfortable in there and they had portable AC all through out the restaurant. read more

Our visit to The Magic Time Machine was so much fun. Our server was Bethany from Jumanji. He was absolutely amazing. He stayed in character and flirted with my teenage son which was hilarious. He was on point with anticipating all of our needs and kept us entertained throughout our whole dinner. The atmosphere is totally funky-in a good way. There is so much to look at. We got to see pretty much everyone and everything as we were seated close to the salad car. We celebrated a birthday for my 11 year old daughter and they really made her feel special. Everyone in my party had a fabulous time. Also the food was delicious! Our table had mozzarella sticks, chicken Alfredo, prime rib, salmon, a Finally burger and superhero pasta. As other reviews have stated, you come here for the fun. A group of us were in town for a meeting and wanted to try the Roman Orgy, which you have to have a minimum of four people to order. We ended up getting that (at a modest $18 per person). The plate had chicken, brisket, corn, potatoes, and various fruits. The chicken pieces were large and seemed to have been cut off of a whole chicken (rather than cooked separately). This doesn't necessarily bother me, but you also then have to do the work of cutting off the bones. The chicken was rather dry, but ok. Didn't try the brisket, but others said it was tender. Corn and potatoes were absolutely drowned in butter. Corn was terribly overcooked. Potatoes were fine. Most of the fruit was overripe (melons and pineapple especially). When all was said and done, my meal basically consisted of dry chicken, buttered potatoes, one bite of corn and some grapes. I will give the waitstaff a lot of props and why this ended up getting 2 stars instead of 1. They were all running around and making the experience fun. read more

What a fabulous time had by all tonight. Came in with a party of 10 for my little sisters birthday and we had a blast. Our server "Forrest Gump" was top tier entertainment and service. Food came out super fast and all correct. Quite a feat considering our party size. Not an everyday place BUT a must do while in town or celebrating. So much fun! I have not done a review on a few spots lately as I had so so experiences. Mostly service related. I try to understand most spots are understaffed. A friend is a research guru and found this place God knows how. When we arrived the exterior looked questionable / older looking building and there was a cop in the lot which it appears the place hires to sit outside for whatever reason. So. I was apprehensive out the gate. That immediately changed when we walked in. Our friend made a reservation. I highly recommend this as I saw a lot of people waiting. The interior decor was so cool. I won't ruin it and you can of course see pics on here. Now. Our waiter, The White Rabbit. Yes. There are themed seating areas and different character waiters / waitresses from a pro wrestler to Alice in Wonderland. I watched some of the other staff. If you come you. I highly suggest you request The White Rabbit. Assuming he doesn't change his character. This guy was a comedian. I was laughing so much my face hurt. Let's just say I am a Veteran and I don't tend to laugh. Not tonight. This guy was funny and he was a solid hard working waiter. Food. They bode themselves as a steakhouse. Great mix of food options if you don't want steak. I of course got a steak, the Ribeye. It was described as being huge on the menu. I was not disappointed. Came with what the White Rabbit described as fresh not from a box garlic spun masked potatoes. 100% accurate. I almost finished them but I had to kill the steak over the potatoes. I heard no complaints on food from the other 9 at our table to include the kids, which is not common. Some dessert was ordered which I did have after the huge ribeye. But it looked amazing and it wasn't small either. If I absolutely had to complain about anything it would be the price of the food. But. I think most sit down restaurants this day and age with this skill set and quality would be similar in price. Long and short. If you come to San Antonio (we are from Houston) you absolutely must put this place on your list of stops. read more
