This review is for all the parents out there! If you are looking for a place with delicious food, refreshing drinks and a playground for your kiddo to run around The Pigpen is the place for you! I recently visited The Pigpen with some friends to watch a soccer game. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with plenty of TV screens all over the restaurant so you don't miss your favorite game. Their outdoor area has a really nice size playground for the little ones, and they have numerous fans and shaded spots all over to keep you cool as much as possible. They have a full bar with anything you can imagine, and plenty of non-alocholic options for those of us who don't drink. We weren't super hungry so I decided to just order a few items from their menu that we could snack on. Their pretzel was probably the best pretzel we've ever had (like ever, I am not kidding). The bread was super soft and it was actually semi-sweet which blended perfectly with the salt on top. Then I order their chicken wings and let me tell you, those wings were fire. I have no idea how they season them, but they taste heavenly. I also order a quesadilla with fries for my kid, and he devoured it in seconds. I got to try his fries and they were equally delicious. Frankly, I was expecting your regular bar food, but I was so wrong. One last thing, please keep in mind that since they are a bar, kids are not allowed after 9pm. Also, their parking is pretty small but there's plenty of street parking available around this area.

Great food and atmosphere, I didn't like the initial drink I got and the manager was an angel about it and let me sub it out (thank you again so so much) nachos were great, chicken strips and tots were super delish as well. As one of the few places with a playground still we were happy to let our kiddo play while we waited for food. A great spot.

My first time doing brunch and hopefully not the last.

A few weeks back the Pigpen held an online contest where they picked someone at random to win a brunch with a buffet.. Mind you, I never win anything. Even if there was a contest and there was only one contestant I would still lose. But sometimes the stars align and we can forgo our trusty Rabbit's Foot. Needless to say we won a brunch buffet for two. Since it was a special seasonal buffet they offered more food items than usual. Before I continue we came here after they reopened after a long hiatus, a few years back. We had a great experience then and the brunch day event was no exception. One thing we encountered upon coming here was a difficulty finding parking. I thought on an early Sunday morning the place would be a brisk audience. Thus freeing appropriate parking space. Wrong. The place was teeming with patrons. And seating was very limited. We found a spot at the bar counter. We showed the bartender our confirmation information and were given two hand stamps with styrofoam plates. On one side to the other was wall to wall of various food items. There was: potatoes, eggs, Silver Dollar pancakes, biscuits and a coffee station. Accompanying this were: turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade Cranberry sauce etc. All in chafing pans. In addition there was a coffee-drink station. Not to be outdone there was an omelet station with chefs making plates as you ordered them.. I believe the buffet is $22 ish something bucks but I think it is well worth it. Lastly I'm not a soup person but I was peer pressured into trying a soup with pumpkin seeds and feta cheese. It was the most unique thing I have tried this year. It was creamy, thick and rich. In the future they should add this item on a Winter menu. I really like the vibe of this place. It is ultra laid back. I enjoyed the house band playing Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" but I wasn't wasting away. After a couple of plates and drinks later we decided to high tail out of there. The Pigpen is a great place to bring your family, friends or a date. The service is great and the food is equal to that. Next time we come it will be to sit at the patio, if at all possible. And the next time I'm requesting some Steely Dan. "Peg" anyone?

We walked to this place from another business down the street, and the BBQ restaurant and the Meat Market are the easiest to spot from the street, this place is directly behind both of them. So it was a little confusing getting to it. We walked in and first sat at the long tables they have inside, which is more so the bar area I'm assuming since we didn't get any service. Was kind of disappointed that we were given the cold shoulder and given no direction, as 2 girls walking in looking confused you'd think someone would help. We decided to go to the outside of the restaurant since it was a nice day and were greeted quickly and told what to do. The outdoor patio area is very cute, shaded well. There was a little play set for kids too. Now for the food, I can confidently say the pictures did NOT disappoint when it came to the brisket nachos. Our eyes were bigger than our tummy.

My nephew from Winnipeg, MB Canada came down to see South Texas. By chance, we stopped in at The Pigpen on our travels up Broadway. It was an excellent visit. The staff and customers were so nice to get to know out in the patio.

Got the good eats sleepy tummy going on. So much excellent food.

Delicious! Buffet was amazing, so many southern options and also includes Texas shaped waffles, biscuits, banana pudding, made to order omelets and desserts. The staff were super attentive and kept the buffet stocked and cleaned. Love music was amazing. Can't speak highly enough about this place. My picky honey said he would definitely come back again.

Best $4.50 chicken sandwich I've had in San Antonio so far! Loved the vibe at the pigpen! We at outside and enjoyed the heat & drank! The food here is perfect for the setting!

A place that's more than The Smoke Shack's neighbor. The Pigpen provides a spacious outdoor seating area complete with a kid's playground. The food though! The brisket grilled cheese is to die for. Super rich, tender and flavorful paired with yummy thin cut fries. The brisket nachos were equally delicious topped with everything but the kitchen sink. The fried mushrooms, pickles and jalapeños (nuts and bolts) however, were super salty. The breading has great potential, but I was unfortunately not able to eat them due to the amount of saltiness. Overall, The Pigpen provides great food and great friendly service.

This is a great place to sit and have a drink or two. We were full from BBQ next door so couldn't try the food options, but enjoyed a nice late afternoon into early evening here. It's pet and kid friendly as well. Only "complaint" (and it's minor) is that there could be some variety in music choices, at least as evidenced by our visit--every song was either by Zach Bryan or someone who sounded like him with nary a female artist represented.

Is the soul brunch the only Sunday option? I want brisket grilled cheese!

You can order the brisket grilled cheese on Sunday after 2:00 pm from the food truck menu.

Since it is buffet and $16.00 set price, is there an adjustment if you are Vegeterian and DON"T eat meat or fish, I will but my husband doesn't so would be a lot of money to pay for veggies and salad?????????????? help me out here.

Why go to a BBQ restaurant looking for vegetarian food? It makes no sense.

It seemed the boats going up and down the River portion of the Walk were busier. While we were walking I had my eyes open for a table with a view. We stopped at Four Brothers. The receptionist went over suggestions on the menu on her outdoor podium. Cornbread in the shape of Texas, shareable items like Dino ribs for $82, plus Pork Shank and ice tea completed our order. Everyone was very friendly. We had an exceptional view and we had more than enough food that we had to ask for take out boxes. My favorite was the Mac & cheese though I'm usually not a fan. This dish used cork screw shaped pasta and it was moist and not stuck together. I had to share a photo of it with Sweetie who is in Tokyo right now. Doc liked the pimento for the cornbread. Y'know it's impossible to find street parking especially on the weekends normally. I had made reservations to meet some friends here for brunch/lunch 1145 am on a Sunday. This place is bigger than it looks! There's seating at the main building, plus a huge outdoor patio seating area, and an entire other building beautifully decorated. The hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server was excellent. We were seated in the other building near the windows. The menu wasn't huge, but just right with a few lunch and brunch items. After debating for a while of what to order, I decided on the Texas Gulf Shrimp plate. Agua Fresca of the day per our server was strawberry pineapple. Our server was able to water mine down slightly- since it was very sweet, but love knowing that it was freshly made. Complimentary chips and salsa always a plus, and we were able to order some spicy salsa to accompany at no charge. My shrimp plate was delicious! 2 skewers of nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp atop salsa with perfectly cooked cilantro rice and a fresh leaf salad. A half slices avocado accompanied my plate. Oh how I love avocados. I thoroughly enjoyed my plate. The chicken al carbon was also a good choice - half a chicken that was juicy, not dry. The avocado toast was beautiful and the pecan salsa was quite interesting. The female performers during our brunch in the room, made it very hard for all of us to have conversations. The volume echoed loudly in the room, so it was very hard to speak and understand each other. Although a great idea, maybe outdoor patio area might be more suitable. Beautiful space, great service, good food.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.

My daughter ordered meatloaf, a pork chop plate, Mac & cheese, collard greens, cornbread muffin, a tropical punch beverage and banana pudding which I felt the pudding was watered down vs. being thick. She asked for medium cooked pork chops and one pork chop was medium and one pork chop was over cooked. She notified the cashier and he stated they both were cooked at temp the same time. The collard greens were spicy and the Mac & cheese were watered down. I had to go to the restroom. This was the worst restroom in any restaurant I have ever used. Third, there was also a hole in the wall visible behind the toilet tank top, again I was afraid to set down on the toilet and the whole bathroom decor was unappealing. When other patrons described this establishment as as "HOLE IN THE WALL" they were absolutely correct. Don't forget about the hole in the ceiling! Entering into the building, the walls and ceiling were black, making the atmosphere sad. There was also a small bar to the left of the dining area. Service: I called while at the airport to make sure they had chicken and I was told yes. I immediately headed straight to the restaurant from the airport. It was my first visit to this restaurant and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the service. I wasn't immediately acknowledged. They ran out of everything I planned to purchase between the time I called and drove to the restaurant from the airport (short ride). The area where the condiments are stored was not as clean or organized as it should have been for a restaurant. There seemed to be enough staff to take care of it while I was there. Staff I came in contact with were nice and acknowledged with a smile when I was at my table. There is an area before arriving to the restroom that was not as clean as it should have been. The garbage can was running over with trash. Atmosphere: Loud, joyful, and family friendly environment. I met a family who were looking for a place to sit.
