I've seen a lot of different opinions about this place so when I was in town, I decided to give it a try. I really wanted to like this place because it seemed really aesthetically pleasing and had promising reviews. I stopped by here for dinner. The layout is really open but if you get cold easily, be advised to bring a jacket in the colder months. NOTE: Menu is on a QR code on the table. Food: 3/5 - To be completely honest, I didn't find the food to be significantly outstanding. It was good but the flavours didn't stand out to me. We ordered the deviled eggs, per advised by our waitress, and it was pretty standard, nothing special. The House burger was good but a bit on the dry side overall, I'd suggest asking for extra aioli or some sauce on the side. The clams were good but the portion was quite small. The only dish that stood out the most to me was the smoked eggplant. The texture and flavours were good, but once again, it wasn't STUNNING, just good food. Price: $$+ 1/2 - I do think that it is a bit on the pricy side for the portion that you are getting but the pricing did not surprise me. Service: 4/5 - The waitress that served us was really kind and primarily left us alone after ordering and the food arrived. She did come by to check up on us and then when we asked for the check. Location: 2/5 - Parking is a bit of a hassle as it is in Downtown Pasadena. Be aware of a possible need for walking a bit in order to get to the restaurant. I don't find this to be a problem personally but I do understand that this inconvenience may not be great for certain demographics, so please be advised. read more

This place is small but cute, have happy hours for small apps and drinks a few dollars off. Their drinks are pretty good so are their services, however the place is a bit small, so the seating do run out fast, for the bigger tables reservations are required which is a little frustrating, but the bar is always open. There is street parking, otherwise parking lots further out, but street will probably be your best bet around downtown Pasadena. They have individual restrooms one male one female, so line can add up if a lot of people decided to go at once. Would recommend checking out and trying their drinks! Would come back again, food is alright, I feel like just your typical bar food scene. read more

If I could give this restaurant a 0, then I would. Went with a group of 11 people. We were having a great time and enjoying ourselves. Then out of no where someone who WAS NOT our waiter came and told us we were being obnoxious (ended up being tonight's manager). We are a group of corporate employees from an elite company and were absolutely not obnoxious or rude in this establishment. Totally uncalled for and absolutely disrespectful. We will never be coming back to Magnolia House. On top of that, food and drinks are overpriced and mid-quality. We'll be taking our money, time, and happy-selves to Mercado which is down the street. Came here with a friend to have early dinner, but was unaware that between 2:30-4:30 it was drinks only with only fries to snack on. It didn't bother us too much, since we got there around 3:45 so we just chilled for a bit. The inside is cute and gives coffee shop vibes, but alcohol. I ordered the house burger, and there was a huge blob of cheese on it. I'm all for extra cheese, but it really overpowered the taste of the overall meal. My friend got the fried chicken sando and said it tasted a bit like curry. Before we got our food, one of the waitress was holding multiple plates and food and one of the sauce cups accidentally fell and landed on my friend, ruining her shirt. The waitress that was serving immediately noticed and helped my friend clean up. However, when she notified the other waitress that was holding the plates, she never came back to apologize to my friend. In fact, my friend saw her laugh when our waitress explained to her what had happened. We asked to sit at a different table where she couldn't have it happen again. Although it was an accident, a quick apology could have gone a long way. First off, I want to mention that I came for brunch and I think maybe dinner would've been much better. The House Burger I had was definitely a solid 4 stars dish! However, the items my friends ordered(classic) were very underwhelming. The potatoes were seemingly twice fried to make them extra crispy, but it made it pretty hard and not very enjoyable. The brioche toast was like a brick, crouton-like consistency. We anticipated something softer. The fries we ordered on the side were just ok. Some fries were extra salted and some were perfectly seasoned, it wasn't consistent. Also the dipping aioli seemed too light, felt like it was missing something. Our waitress was nice but she was pretty busy. Overall, it was a cute brunch spot, but I don't think I'd be back again because it left me wanting a bit more. read more

Came here around 730 on a week day as a party of 3. We walked from the apartment, so we had no trouble with parking. We were seated rather quickly. We chose to sit outdoors. The ambiance was homey and gave an American restaurant vibe. We ordered a cocktail and a mocktail, both Marigolds at Magnolia's. They were super cute, added with a live garnish! The drinks were nothing special. As two appetizers we ordered the Belgian Fries and Nachos. Neither was outstanding. However, the nachos were better than the fries. The star of the show was the Mushroom & Roasted Garlic Flatbread. It was aesthetically pleasing and yummy. Magnolia was average. I would rather try out a new restaurant than return. I really wanted to love this place. It's so cute, cozy and inviting. So here's what I enjoyed: I really enjoyed the cocktail I had, the Mendocino Sour. I would make this at home. Even though it's bourbon it's light and refreshing. It reminds me of a summer day in Mississippi under the shade of a big ole tree. Like a hug from Big Mama. I love it. Here's what I didn't enjoy: The service was crazy. I don't know if they were short staffed or shy, but it was weird. We were able to be seated almost immediately but were sat at a table with no menus (no QR code, no physical menu, no nothing). After 10 minutes or so of chatting with my lovely friend we realized no one acknowledged us and had just been swirling about. I stopped one of them and said no one has helped us yet. She pointed out who our actual server was but took our drink order -- I appreciated that. Our "would be server" just slid us some silverware without introducing herself and walked off. Okay. She came back some time later with water and finally spoke. She took our orders and vanished, never to be seen again. We sat, drank and talked for a while. She floated by when our drinks were low so we got another round but still nothing edible. BRUH -- waited an hour for food. I know it took this long because I had a timer set for parking. I should have known something was up when I walked in and saw several tables already seated with no food. I don't know how long they were there before me, but I know I sat that hour and none of us had food. When my chicken chilaquiles finally came I was SO ready to eat .. but I couldn't. There was hair in my eggs. Cooked in crisply like extra flavor. I was hot. Because at this point I'm hangry. They replaced the food so quickly I wonder if they just replaced the egg on top. The eggs were also fried hard and I asked for fried medium but I was too hungry to wait longer. The frustration. The manager did deduct the chilaquiles from the bill but everything took so long and once delivered was lackluster. I just paid and left. Two stars for great drinks and decent service. Magnolia House looks like a house that was converted into a cute brunch/dinner spot as seen by the homey interior and comfortable furniture. Don't be surprised though, it's a comfortable dining experience. So for starters, this place isn't severely overpriced like many other brunch places tend to be now. I opted for a forager omelette because king oyster mushrooms are delicious (though I still added sausage cause why not?). The omelette was decent enough and portions were well controlled hah. I also got their favorite iced latte which is actually whiskey and latte combined, it makes for a fun boozy pick me up drink if you so need it. All in all, magnolia house is a cute place with great service and pretty decent food as well. You can't go wrong with a meal out here with friends or dates or alone. read more

Came to Magnolia House today for brunch! The restaurant is really nicely decorated with lots of natural light flowing in. Definitely a really cute spot for brunch. Servers were super friendly and attentive As for the food, I ordered the crab cakes benedict. The crab cakes were perfectly seasoned and when eaten with the runny poached egg and creamy hollandaise sauce, it is the perfect bite! The garlic potatoes that came with the dish were delicious and the fruit was very sweet - a nice palate cleanser. Our only complaint was for the chicken and waffles. They have a decently sized patio with some shade/heater and great cocktails. There are many times where I've just hung out here for a few hours day drinking and catching up with friends. Super cute little restaurant/bar on Lake that I have been wanting to try for the longest since living so close to it. Came here on a Tuesday night for a GNO. The ambiance is definitely beautiful. They have indoor and outdoor sitting but we opted for inside since it was a cold night. The staff and server were all super friendly. The drinks were definitely strong and delicious and presented very well. I much enjoyed my cucumber basil drink (can't remember the name). It was refreshing but strong. We shared the Belgian fries and deviled eggs. The fries was ok, nothing too special and the deviled eggs had a bit of kick to it. For the main entrée I got the pork belly. Although delicious, I felt like it lacked a pairing. I gave their food 4/5 because they are pretty pricey for the serving. I really wanted the Korean bbq wings which they no longer have. Stopped by on a weekday right when they opened at 3pm for happy hour to celebrate by bff belated birthday. We were seated right away in a sunny spot with a retractable shade which later in the visit they pulled down to keep the sun out. The vibe was light and fun as we literally ordered one of each appetizer on the happy hour menu and chilled while we waited for our food. They had a few vegetarian options and a great selection of other appetizers for happy hour. The drinks were fun and delicious and the food was served tapas style and made for a great meal. The food was amazing. Chef's Kisses. SO much flavor in everything. The Moroccan Chicken Wings were my favorite dish, the sauce on top was something I have never tried before. Upon walking in to the dining area, it gave me Central Perks vibes. There's a small waiting area with small round tables and seats. There's also a standing bar area if you are waiting. There are also seats outside that only seats 2 people with heaters right above. The restaurant is on the small side and not that great for larger groups. There is street parking available, but O ended up parking behind Ross. Considering how legit the bar was set up, I thought the drinks would taste better. I got the El Sereno and was not a big fan of I thought the Mezcal was too over powering. I ordered the chicken and waffles and found it to be bland. The chicken didn't have much taste to it and wasn't seasoned well. Although, it was juicy and tender. The breading wasn't too thick and you can taste the chicken fried skin. This is a super cute spot for brunch! We came here to celebrate my friends bday , (she picked this cute spot) and we all loved it! The decor is lovely and the vibes are great. I am not a huge breakfast person, so I only got a tea and the yogurt/granola bowl. The tea pot and cup that they brought me were cracked at the edge , and the mug had hair in it. They did bring me a new pot and cup and tea was good , the yogurt/granola was good too. Birthday girl got a drink (I'm not familiar with drink names) and avocado toast. She loved both, and the avocado toast had beautiful flowers on it. My friend got the shakshuka , she said it was delicious but it seemed the eggs were not cooked as well, and she wishes she mentioned for it to be well done. Had the duke burger and house burger. The were good, but nothing amazing. For the size of the burgers, this place does seem a bit overpriced. The burgers do not come with a side, so I also ordered the belgian fries. Honestly, these fries were better than the burgers. They were nice and crispy with a yummy tomato sauce.
