Really good, thin-crust pizza using flavorful, quality ingredients. (Pizza is all I've ever ordered from Magpie.) Take-out is my usual via phoning in an order and paying then. (As opposed to using Toast for online orders.) So, I do have interactions with staff and it's always been positive. read more

Fun, ecletic restaurant in downtown Greenfield. Many different twists on familiar standards. Fresh produce, attention to details. We ate at the bar and enjoyed Luke the bartender who offered suggestions on several items. This restaurant received it's fourth star due to the carefully prepared cocktails. My wife had the Magpie Nigroni and I had Gaspare's spritz a refreshing mix of vodka, leminicello, Campari. read more

Use to give it a higher rating, but this place has changed chefs. Pizza was undercooked on the bottom and way oversauced on top which made the pizza soggy. Had to eat with a knife and fork. Don't care much for raw dough. Think they could use more help there also. read more

Popped in for a quick dinner, sat at the bar. Cute place. Probably should have got pizza but wanted an entree so ordered the pasta carbonara. It was completely unlike any carbonara I've ever had and not in a good way. Sauce should be creamy and rich, this was runny and like a white wine sauce. Weirdest thing, loaded with undercooked onions. Had to pile them off to the side. Really bad. Server wasn't too attentive. Great local restaurant. They have the best pizza in town. Also love their beet salad and cod cakes. Great drinks, excellent atmosphere, fresh and delicious food. Staying nearby for leaf peeping so on our way back to our hotel we relied on Yelp and stopped here for dinner. We had a bit of a wait but it was worth it. Great service, good prices, and a really interesting menu. We stopped here on our way home from visiting family in New Hampshire and had a great experience. The only negative was the anchovy on my mothers pizza had very little flavor. They use white anchovies which do not have the salty Flavor that she was expecting so she was disappointed. Other than that, we all loved our meals. We had pasta dishes and salads and locally made soda and enjoyed it all. My daughter thought that their bread was the best she has ever eaten. read more

We were traveling through town and stopped for dinner. Our outdoor seating overlooked the steady stream of patrons (lots of folks like this place). Grilled romaine was delicious with their twist of grilling it in a puddle of cheese. The "make your own" pizza came out perfect and we are glad the chef complied with our request for the ricotta added after baking. Wood fired deliciousness! Shouldn't all pizza be wood fired? Love this place. Much needed almost the sea of Greenfield pizzas that air more on the side of Greek pizza shop pizzas (delish at times too.) I am a fan of their prosciutto and artichokes margarita pizza. A friend and I happened upon Magpie by accident, and I wish every accident could be as good. It's a quaint little pizzeria with both charm and, more importantly, inventive flavor. The first item I had was on their specials menu, figs wrapped in prosciutto, a beautiful combination. Next, I had the Fennel, Arugula, and Goat Cheese pie. It was very good, and not a combination I'd had before on a pizza. Lastly, I had a dessert pizza on their specials menu. It was a combination of sliced pears, almonds, and ricotta cheese, drizzled with honey on a pizza crust. I approached it with skeptical excitement. I love an inventive menu, but I've been disappointed in the past. Disappointed I was not. It was deliciously sweet and salty, a perfect combination of contrasting tastes, so good that my friend and I stuffed ourselves until we were almost too uncomfortably full to leave. Like my happening on Magpie for dinner, their menu items feel like happy accidents, combinations of food that I would never envision on a pizza, but that end up tasting like I wish every pizza would. read more

The wait is long, but the food is really tasty. And, there is so much food, you get to enjoy the leftovers again on the next day. We stopped by on a Sunday night -- spurred on by other Yelp reviews. Most people order pizza, I think, because there are mainly pizzas being served at other tables. But, let me tell you what you should do. Order Nana's meatball appetizer and the salad of your choice. It will be two meals. Nana's meatballs are amazingly tasty. They are not just a little meat and a lot of filling. It seems to be good quality meat with just the right amount of flavoring. I added a chop-chop salad and had enough food for days. My wife and mother-in-law also came. My mother-in-law ordered this amazing lasagna with real slices of high quality beef. This wasn't the cheap ground stuff. It was actual slices cooked properly in a great lasagna. My wife also had a great pasta dish. As for service, I noticed that the table next to ours had a pizza that seemed a little "well done." They called over the server to complain. She immediately apologized and ordered a replacement. But, she also offered to let them keep the current pizza (or a slice or two) so that they could snack while they waited. I think that they then removed the pizza from their bill. They made it right. So, you can come for the pizza. But, let me tell you, it is worth trying other items. read more

My husband and I were seeking pizza and liked the looks of Magpie based on its Yelp photos. We were not disappointed! The space itself was clean and homey. The menu was diverse and our server was awesome! We had the crostini with anchovies (fantastic!) the Caesar salad (homemade dressing!!) and a pizza with the breaded eggplant. We also got to try a new beer we really enjoyed! The prices were good and the food was delicious... what more could you want? Oh also, Greenfield was a great little town to tour around in. A friend and I were in Greenfield for a show at Hawks & Reed. The first two restaurants we stopped at were only doing carry-out, then we came across this little gem around the corner. The tables were full, so we sat at the bar. Every bit of our experience was perfect. The bartender was friendly, provided great service and made great recommendations. I had the cod cakes that came with potatoes with a large, fresh green salad, and my friend had the linguini with (huge) meatballs. Wow! Both were delicious with large servings. Mostly a fan because I love the ambience. Big stove in the back, bustling staff, happy pizza-eaters seated inside and out, warm decor, a newly remodeled space. A classy joint by Greenfield's standards. The pies are beautiful to look at. I ordered a build-your-own with roasted tomatoes, spinach, artichoke hearts and mushroom. Crust was crispy on the outside but soggy in the middle. The sauce was sweet and I wished it would have had a touch of tang, like Vincente's in Portland, Ore. All the ingredients seemed fresh. The bubbles in the crust were burned. There were a few puddles on my pie, a mix of grease from the cheese and liquid from the tomatoes. Friend ordered a pizza he designed, something with spinach and sausage. It came out great except that they forgot the red sauce. Yes, you read that right. Forgot. the. red. sauce. The pizza was taken back, dappled with sauce, returned to the oven to warm, and then re-served to our table. Friend was happy and I was glad they didn't make him wait for a whole new pizza but something about that whole situation seemed a bit off to me. Beer came out fast but I had to ask twice for my iced tea. Staff was friendly, place was hopping and we could hear each other fine. Friend actually has issues hearing me through ambient noise but no trouble with that tonight. For dessert we tried the cookie ice cream sandwich. Cookies were large, dense, and tasty and so was the ice cream, but honestly, the whole thing was just too big. Nobody needs that much sugar at the end of a meal. We couldn't finish it and that felt wasteful. Would I go again? Yeah. I like the vibe. I'd order smarter next time. Maybe a salad and an app (steamed greens with garlic & chile?), plus a beverage. I sat outside, was a beautiful day. Haven't been here in a couple years because my experience last time wasn't great. Thought I would try it out again. I'm not a picky eater but I like to get what I pay for. I got a salad with chicken. The chicken was less than grilled. If someone came out to the patio to do the 2 minute check (yes, I am a professional bar and restaurant manager) I would have just have it thrown on the grill. No big deal. So, in turn, I didn't eat my salad. The server came out after some time and took my dish with no question as to why I hadn't eaten the salad. I ended up ordering bread with oil. It was a truffle oil. Not an olive oil. The menu said olive oil. The bartender was snotty. Young kid. The guy with the beard was very polite. My server was sweet but overall everyone was very unattentive. I know there are people out there that will condemn this review. But, if I'm paying for a service, I expect a service This is my first Yelp review ever. read more

Last night we had dinner at Magpie before catching a movie and have to say that we enjoyed it. When stopped in it was half an hour before closing so we thought that we were going to be rushed through our meal. That was not the case in the slightest. We ended up ordering there bread for an appetizer as well as a Stromboli and pizza for our meals. The food overall was delicious, but the Stromboli was undercooked in a few spots. Besides that, the food was delicious and it is clear that they take pride in using only fresh ingredients. As a final note, our waitress was awesome and we can't wait to come back. read more

Humm.. Well having been a long time resident of Greenfield, MA I was not thrilled with yet ANOTHER pizza place in our community. These are my observations: 1. Terrible parking (shares with several other surrounding businesses). 2. Very very loud in the eatery. So loud I had to remove my hearing aids! 3. Service was an insult to the experience. I have received better service at several surrounding businesses. Service SOOO SLOW!!! 4. Deserts were comparable to McDonald's as far as "need to try". 5. The sourdough crust was not inbalance, far too tart and sour. 6. The pizza had no flavor, besides the salt and pepper we had to add. So, being a well experienced food connoisseur and having lived in Western, MA my whole life, I want to recommend everyone to save their money, do not waste it on very poor service, below par pizza and noise so consistent, you may have a headache before the waiter/waitress respond to your 4th request for a glass of water. If you are in that neighborhood and looking for a FLAVORFUL and quality pizza from dough toppings... go to ATHEN'S PIZZA on Main Street if you want your pizza done right! read more

Disappointing for our takeout order for five. The menu looks fantastic - no one had an issue finding something(s) to look forward to on the menu. Ordered online - almost two hours prior to selected pickup time. When we arrived, none of the pizzas were ready, but the appetizers were. These proceeded to get quite cold as the pizzas were finished 25 minutes late. Places can get busy, so this is somewhat understandable. Worse, however, was arriving home to discover that one of the pizzas was at least 1/3 burnt and 1/2 was inedible (not just overcooked) - this would have been sent back immediately had we been dining in. The crostini w/ anchovies were "sogginis" - soggy crusted bread. Not good! Another pizza was partially burnt (no, not a "normal" wood-fire burn), though three of the five were fine. The broccoli rabe was cold and tough due to the long wait. The greek salad was good, if light on the feta. No one offered an excuse for the tardiness, so poor service to boot. The good pizzas were tasty, so magpies does have the potential to create delicious food. But for all the errors, and poor service - this on a week night - I can only offer two stars. read more

Delicious pizzas and amazing customer service! Vivian was ever-patient on the phone as she took down the large order in detail, offering her inputs along the way. There were plenty of vegetarian and vegan options on offer and any pizza could be easily modified according to dietary preference. I never felt rushed, or was never made to feel that I was imposing upon their time in any way. The order was processed under the 25-minute timeframe they had initially quoted, which was another pleasant surprise. Pizzas were just exquisite, made with great attention to detail. This is a nice, local pizza joint that has an amazing variety of gourmet pizzas with ingredients that are mostly sourced locally. It is imperative we support such good establishments especially in current trying times! read more

Our experience was a strange one, I can't say we will likely return unless we sit at the bar. Some pickled veggies were brought after a seriously long wait, I have no idea if these were an app that we mistakenly received or a normal starter? No communication from our waitress at all. Overall the food was good, had a pizza (slightly burnt, but that's to be expected) and an app. It took an hour for us to be in and out with only that, the waiting was draining honestly. Once the food arrived no one checked in again until we were bored enough to be staring at the ceiling, much like our experience waiting to order. Sure it was busy-ish, but not THAT busy, along with being fully staffed. Once our check arrived, waitress left it with not even a parting remark. Oh well, still left a good tip. Will we return? Not bad list of wines by the glass, excellent beer and cider selection. Pizzas, there is sure to be one for everyone's taste. Mine was a tad overdone in part but otherwise excellent.
