Sometimes we are hesitant about eating at the restaurants at hotels/resorts, but this time I am so glad we did. Apparently this restaurant used to be known as Il postino, an italian restuarant, about 3-4 months ago. They got a new chef and now it is Mahina, and the food has like a hawaiian or polynesian influence. It was excellent, and I would go back there even if I was not staying at the resort. We sat outside on the water under the string lights hanging from the palm trees and it was beautiful!! I had the hawaiian ahi poke appetizer and it may have been the best I have ever had. First of all, the pieces of ahi tuna were huge! Secondly, the combination of the aioli, sesame oil and soy sauce was sooooo good. Mix that all together with the sweet onions on the sesame crackers and it was addicting. I want more. For a main course I had the Churrasco. It was cooked perfectly medium rare, just as I requested. The "forbidden" coconut rice was amazing and paired perfectly with the steak. It was a large portion too, about 10-12 oz. My wife had the Mahina salad and added grilled chicken. She say she thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was very good as well. The restaurant is quite pricey, but in my opinion worth it! read more

Wow. The quality & flavor of the food here is unlike any I've ever had. We got the daily special which was coconut Parmesan crusted snapper with a rum raisin sauce on top of risotto. We have taken our boat to Marathon three times this past year for a month each time, and frequented Isla Bella and its restaurant, Il Postino many times during these stays. We have also advised our friends coming for a visit to stay at the resort because the accommodations, facilities and location are the best in Marathon. But it stops there! Their service is abominable! Last week was the last straw - I will never again book a reservation at Il Postino and I will discourage our friends from ever staying there. While dining at Il Postino with visiting friends on 4/30/21, I watched as the Hostess made ANOTHER reservation for 5/15/21 for us and visiting family. I saw her enter it into the iPad/system and I double-checked the date and time. When I called to reconfirm (I've learned from past experience not to trust them), I was told that there was no reservation and ... NO SPACE to accommodate us. Our party of 5 was left to find last minute dining on a Saturday night on an overcrowded island - exactly what I had hoped to avoid by making a reservation! A word of advice - there are dozens of great restaurants in Marathon, make a reservation at any one of them ... BUT NOT AT IL POSTINO! read more

I stayed at the property for 6 nights and had breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and drinks at Il Postino. Overall, very good and solid 4 stars. This is a resort restaurant, expect it to be expensive. The decor is beautiful, the music is soft and nice and the bathrooms are very clean. The view is amazing, but partial sunset viewing only as the property is not facing west. The service was very good on all occasions, make sure you make reservations. Food highlights: Breakfast buffet on Sunday was great. Smoked salmon and included omelette made to order are the highlights. During the week is a la carte only, everything is great, eggs Benedict, pancakes, all good. For a less expensive fare, checkout their Marketplace, lots of options at a lower price. The pizza is unexpectedly fantastic, crispy crust, amazing dough, top rate toppings. Osso Bucco is great, the spicy sauce is not my favorite and if ordering would ask without it. Scallops are a must have plate here. The pastas were less than average, no taste on the Alfredo or Bucattini. Appetizer burrata was great. Eggplant Rollatini is okay, flaverfull. Desert ice cream sundae great for 3 to share. Nutella pizza is better than expected and I recommend it (add champagne and sunset). read more

Breakfast (- 1 star): My wife and I had the breakfast buffet and it was horrible. Food quality was a zero and it was extremely overpriced at $61 for the two of us. There is a McDonald's a short drive down the street and you can eat breakfast all week for what you will spend for one breakfast here. Dinner (- 4 stars): we made dinner reservations to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the only thing that was disappointing was the cost. Like everything at this resort, it was very overpriced. However, the view was awesome, the service was great and the food was exquisite! I had the pan-seared scallops and my wife had the pan-seared grouper... both dishes were outstanding!! read more

It's interesting reading through the reviews on here. Seems people are divided on whether the service is bad or if the food is bad. My wife and I are staying in the resort for our honeymoon and wanted to make sure to try the resort restaurant while we are here. One because it's easy to just stay in the resort and have an easy dinner and two, because I like to try new places. I've been to the keys about a dozen times and I know there are some bomb hole in the wall joints in the Keys. I'll Postino is not hole in the wall by any stretch of the imagination, but man their food is great! We also enjoyed our service from Javier who was very friendly and good at his job. We had mussels for appetizer and the blackened mahi and a delicious pasta dish with veal meat balls. For dessert we had a flourless chocolate cake that was out of this galaxy!! My only complaints are the limited menu and the high prices. I worked in the industry 10 years so I get it. If you can only do a few items really well, then you should only do a few items. Your drinks are money makers and should be priced reasonably enough where people will drink them, and more then one or two. If they cut the price of beer by 40% I bet they would sell 75% more. $9 for a 12oz local microbrew.... Thanks, but I'll walk back the the room for another cheap beer I brought and put in ice in my cooler. read more

Lovely restaurant with delicious food and attentive service. Isla Bella Resort is beautiful and Il Postino is no exception. It's hard to get dinner reservations even if you're a resort guest but for breakfast we had little or no wait. The fresh fruits, fish selections and steaks along with beautiful presentations make this a must dine. My breakfast favorite is eggs benedict and the kids loved the chocolate chip pancakes. I am a local and have been to the restaurant 3 times. I absolutely love the layout of the resort, the food is average (overpriced with a limited menu), but the service has been awful each of the 3 times we were there. I think that one of the problems is that they put a 20% gratuity on every bill (no matter how many people in the party), so there is no motivation for the Staff to hustle. Given that we tried the restaurant several times and were hoping that it would improve, we will not be going back anytime soon. They need to DRAMATICALLY improve their service before we would consider coming back and paying 2x for what amounts to be average food and terrible service (with an amazing view). read more

This has been the best vacation ever. Shout out to Garth and Cj for the great hospitality. These employees made this trip very special and I will never forget them. The restaurant on the resort il Postino was amazing. My family and I ate there countless times. The executive chef Pavy Keomaniboth was able to cook our fish we caught during the day. The meals tailored to us were the best ever. Two nights in a row we ate fish tacos with the best sauce ever. We also had a dish created by him with raw fish, it was amazing. I cannot say enough about the hospitality and the amazing food. I have never had this experience before. I can't say about about this resort and restaurant. Very nice surroundings and well prepared dishes but the service left us wondering why we spent so much . Briefly, we had several issues and were very disappointed with both our waiter and especially the woman who is apparently the manager. We were there for a special occasion and had made the reservation, in person, through the manager. She had promised a Birthday presentation for my wife.The next night she had totally forgotten the purpose of the dinner, handed me the check, and said good nite. I took her aside and had to CONViNCE her of our previous days conversation. She apologized and said she would send something special to our room at the hotel in 30 minutes. Never showed up. I hate giving bad reviews but i look on here for honest reviews so that being said, Disappointed to say least. I had the fresh catch of the day which was black grouper from Mexico??? My grouper was tough not flaky at all, My husband had the filet and it was also tough even though it was cooked medium, the garlic mashed potatoes were salty, not a very large selection of menu choices. The views are amazing and the service was good... but you can get better food at the bar right next to the restaurant!! Came here for brunch and for dinner. Great experience, new restaurant, nice ambience, romantic, with a nice view. Probably the nicest place to eat in the keys. It was American food , simple and to the point, but clean and good. My favorite items were the Greek salad, ceased salad, salmon, and pizza. The Alfredo was bland, but fresh and good. The decor here was gorgeous. But the staff was not friendly, in fact, when we told them we came to the resort to eat at their restaurant and weren't staying there we were immediately disregarded time and time again, first at their bar, then inside at their table service. We waited over an hour, at a table for two pizzas, then we waited for over 20 min for our check. My husband and I have stayed at Isla Bella for the last two years and have had several meals at Mahina as well as some of the other local restaurants and so far nothing else has come close. We have never been disappointed with the meals served at Mahina. It's an awesome setting is with beautiful ocean views, incredible sunsets, attentive service, and delicious food to match. We brought out freshly caught permit after a day of charter fishing to the restaurant and the chef came out to meet us to talk about how to prepare our hook and cook. Amazing experience! The problem is (everything is cooked in the same restaurant ) same bad food in the actual restaurant as well as the hamburger palace ( pool side ) we gave them twice just to be fair . I ordered nachos pool side . It included guacamole! Hah ! This guacamole had never met an avocado in its life . Book a week in advance for there " special valentines dinner " what a let down . Tying to make this a true special event , we dressed up and entered the restaurant . Humm ! Nothing different from the night before . Now you would expect something IE. flowers , candles ? Nothing . Same flavorless food . Even asked to speak to the manager .. he was not even courteous enough to speak with us . (7:25pm)...ordered meals ...(9:00pm)...still waiting on our food!...only good service we got was having our water filled...if you want to sit and wait for food for LITERALLY over 1.5 hours, then this is your place. But to wait for that long while you see pizzas upon pizzas coming out of the kitchen for room service while you are waiting as long as we have waited with no real explanation, I would strongly STRONGLY recommending taking a pass on this beautiful restaurant until management figures out how to manage a restaurant (that is only 50% full). The ambiance and decor are amazing, views are beautiful. The gentleman who sat us (older short man) was lovely and had a great personality. Service was meh at best. Waitress seemed timid and unsure of anything, a little awkward. We had to ask for our wine twice then she acted like she had no idea what we were talking about and asked us to point to the wine we wanted on the menu. At one point she was actually standing behind me waiting for me to finish eating to take my plate. We ordered a pizza for my son, she suggested a "make it yourself" pizza but it took so long to get it that our entrees were up before he was done assembling. But that was okay too. The main issues: the door to outside was kept open the whole time, it was literally 98 outside with high humidity. We chose not to sit outside for a reason! Then the flies started coming in, we had to swat them away the whole meal. The big thing that chaps my hide is the 20% gratuity added to the check for a party of four and never mentioned. Had I not looked closely we nearly tipped her an additional $20+ making it a nearly 40% tip. It's handled in such a shady manner. We normally tip 20% but that's different than being essentially "told" or expected that it is owed. Especially when the service was SO subpar. I have seen "suggested tip" on a receipt before, under the bill total, not presented as if that was the total owed. Shame on you Isla Bella, you do more harm with these shady practices then good. read more

Horrible experience we had reservations to side beachside however they did not allow us to sit beachside because it had rain. They gave us a table next to the hostess inside the waiting area 2 feet from the front door. Everyone who had beachside reservations got a normal table but us. I immediately objected but they did absolutely nothing. The manager had the audacity of telling me that it's up to the hostess and that's her best hostess. Wow. I told them that I am already disappointed with the seats but on father day weekend and 8:15 I am not going find anything else so hopefully the food woes me. It certainly did not. My shrimp prawns were very tough and the shell was diffuse to remove. The sushi rice was hard. My son ordered Chicken Hosein and they brought him a flat bread. By the time they brought his correct order we had finished eating so we ordered to go. To add further insult they tried to charge $100 for tempura sushi's that are worth $18 anywhere else. This is actually my second time visiting this restaurant and the reason why i came back is because i had a really nice time the first time. However this time was NOTHING like the last. The server was very rude and had very poor communication skills, even while taking the order he wouldn't look at the eye to the person ordering myself included. I asked for 2 glasses of wine and pointed at the name on the menu for him it had a cost of $10.00 per glass. The food came fine, along with the drinks. When i asked for the check i noticed that the glass of wine had a cost of $25.00 per glass. I asked him as to why that was happening and he said "Because that's what you ordered didn't you?" I told him I'm sorry but i specifically asked for the one that had a cost of $10.00 (I'm not crazy) he kept questioning me and soon after i asked to speak with the manager. The Manager came and the introduction was: "WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE PROBLEM" no hello, no good evening my name is so and so NOTHING. Super rude. I explained to her the situation and she kept questioning me, i felt so attacked and like if i was steeling something. That is HORRIBLE customer service. As a manager you always try to make the customer happy specially if its a restaurant and even more when the customer is the one that's actually right. Just checked into Isla Bella today and dined at Mahina. The food quality was very disappointing. For the expensive price point, the food was pretty much tasteless. The only option for the pork was well done and even though the waitress guaranteed it would be delicious, it came out over cooked. We have traveled and dined many places, and decide to nicely mention this to the manager since it was so disappointing. His response was basically, we will try to do better. Honestly, if he had tried to do something for us this evening, we might have dined there again during our stay. Just beware what you are paying for... great views at the cost of the food. read more
