Ordered crispy orange beef and received little bit of crispy beef and whole lot of peppers, onions, broccoli and something called 'orange sauce' I found Gourmet Garden to be too pricey but maybe it's worth it for quality and service. read more

Let's begin with their amazing service! The people at Mai Place really do make you feel like it's your place. They remember you and your favorite dishes & they're sincere and kind. We went to Mai Place tonight on a friend's recommendation. Keep in mind, we're foodies who are hesitant when anyone says they've found a decent restaurant on the south shore. But, alas, the recommendation came from another foodie. Needless to say, we were really impressed. We started with some simple (yet very flavorful) wonton soup for our daughter, then went to a beef and asapargus appetizer that came beautifully presented in a teriyaki glaze. For dinner we shared a Rock N Roll roll (very fresh!) and their special shrimp with pineapple and walnuts in a honey mayo sauce. This has always been a favorite dish wherever we can find it and it didn't disappoint here. The only thing I would have changed would be have not had the shrimp battered, but that's just a personal choice. We look forward to going back again soon! read more

This place is alright. This was the place I used to go for sushi most of the time until I found another place with better sushi for the same price that was also much closer. Their sushi is tasty but at the same time the rolls are crumbly and hard to handle with chopsticks compared to other places in which the rolls are tighter and you can pick them up without them falling apart. This is a cute place to grab a quick fix of sushi. My sister and I came here for dinner one night, and we found the service to be great and the restaurant busy. I ordered the Philadelphia maki and the Crispy Tuna Maki. I thought the Philadelphia maki was refreshing, but I would have enjoyed it more with a little less cream cheese. The Crispy Tuna Maki came as a surprise because I didn't expect the tuna to be cooked!! It was fresh, just not what I was expecting. =\ My sister's order included sushi specials with salmon. Her sushi was fresh, and I enjoyed tasting what she ordered. Would I make Mai Place my place? Mayyyyybe. I've been there a few times for lunch, and while it didn't knock my socks off, it wasn't bad. The sushi is good but the Chinese food is just ok. The Chinese lunch specials come with a serving of rice (white, brown, or fried), soup (hot and sour or egg drop, although I'm sure you could get miso if you wanted it), and the "appetizer of the day," which to me sounds like a nice way of saying, "whatever is about to go bad." After having several different maki rolls and sushi varieties, I can say that the sushi is quite satisfying. The maguro tuna was fresh and delicious. One complaint: I like my spicy tuna to have a little kick (that's why I order it spicy), and neither the spicy tuna nor the spicy white tuna could be classified as anything close to spicy. Perhaps "zesty" is a better word. I haven't had the Chinese food, but having been present while several coworkers ate the lunch specials, I can report that their satisfaction was a mixed bag. I hate to be sexist about it, but the girls seemed fine after eating it, but the guys were still hungry. So, if you're female, order the Chinese food lunch specials. If you're a male, you may also want an appetizer or two. read more

Have heard that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area, so we had to try it. Our experience was "interesting", but the food is indeed very good. The Seafood Hot & Sour Soup for two was superb. There seemed to be a hint of lemon to it, lending it a unique flavor and it was appropriately spicy (I like spicy). Highly recommended. We ordered Crispy Tangerine Chicken and was puzzled when I couldn't find any bits of tangerine peel and it had NO spice at all. We didn't know what to make of it, but didn't ask our waiter (who seemed to have "terminal thank-you-itis" [LOL]). When the bill came, the mystery was solved. Somehow the waiter screwed up and wrote down Crispy Sesame Chicken instead! Well, it was very tasty, even if it wasn't what we ordered. An oddity or a Chinese restaurant was to be served tea in full-size cups instead of the usual tiny cups . . . or just in a water glass like I got used to in Chinatown (Boston) restaurants to cater to Orientals as opposed to Americans. Also odd was to be given salt and pepper shakers, but I had to ask for soy sauce. We'll be back, but next time I'll keep a critical eye out to make sure we get exactly what we ordered! read more

Been living in the area for a little over a year and have ordered from this place a couple of times. I will also state I have only had the Chinese never ate the Japanese or that much of the Thai. Let me start with the positives. The customer service is always friendly, you never get the kind of person who you can barely understand screaming at you into the phone, with you left wondering if they got the order right. When I order delivery it always arrives before the time they estimate, and I have never had to wait around for my delivery. Dining in is also nice the place is clean and well kept up. The place always gives me extra duck sauce and I am never charged extra for it. Also, the people who deliver always come to my doorstep with out giving me a hard time. Now some criticisms of the place. As far as food goes it is okay, and just that. There is nothing special that pops out at you. Their fried rice is the brown kind (which I like better then the orange style), but it sometimes comes still white and the taste is very bland. I have also tried the basil fried rice which I usually love. This is the only place I do not like it. That may just be my personal preference, but as far as taste goes it all seems very bland. Also the prices are steep from what I am used to. They always charge a $3 delivery fee as well which that plus the tip you need to add another $10 to the order. With this being the only place around that delivers they sort of have the monopoly so I can not blame them too much for charging a little bit more. The place is fine if you need your chinese fix, but if you do not need delivery I would suggest looking to other places. It's hard writing this review... ...because Mai Place doesn't have a location near MY place in NJ!! To be brief, I ordered the following: 1.) An udon dish - the meat was tender, juicy and flavorful. The udon noodles were perfection. 2.) shrimp shu mai - on point! 3.) egg rolls - golden outside, doughy inner layer, crisp veggies. 10 of 10! 4.) maki platter for 2 - yes, I can eat like a horse at times - minimal rice on the outside of the rolls with plenty of fish on the inside. Perfectly executed. Even more impressive? Things were packed neatly with everything included (I'm on the road). The sauces (I.e. Huge price increase recently on their ENTIRE menu! My husband and I live in the nearby neighborhood and Mai Place was our go-to spot for Chinese food. Not anymore however, as they went from having great food and serving sizes at good prices to smaller serving sizes at a much larger price. Some of our favorite items went up almost $4! The price changes increased our normal order by about $15, which is way too much to pay for Chinese take-out. Also we were not told of the menu price changes until we picked up our order and were surprised by the large price increase. It's really too bad that Mai Place increased their prices and diminished their portions as my husband and I will be finding a new Chinese food place to use in the future. If Mai Place amends it's prices I would be happy to amend my review. Also, the dollar signs in Yelp should be changed to $$$ instead of $$. read more

Mai Place is hands down the BEST Chinese food I've ever had. I can't comment on the sushi because I haven't had it -- yet. But everything else? Excellent! First-- I don't even live in Canton and I've driven here from two towns over. Need I say more? It's worth the drive! My wife and I love this place. We've been going for years and think it has the best both Chinese and Japanese food in the area. Our favorite dish is the Yu Hsiang Triple Delight with Eggplant. The sushi is big pieces and very fresh. The staff is very friendly but can get overwhelmed when its busy or be slow. Make sure you try the special Mai Tai! Great for families and while on the pricier side, is reasonable with big portions and great quality. read more

We went there recently to celebrate a friend's birthday and, well, I wish we had gone elsewhere First of all, our waitress was clearly confused and didn't have adequate knowledge of the menu. A friend and I both had fairly simple questions. His: was the crab in the sushi real or imitation? Mine: what vegetables were in one of the dishes listed under the vegetable menu? She knew the answer to neither and had to go back into the kitchen both times. She also took our food order before our drink order (very strange). Furthermore, when my friend asked for a "Jack and Coke," she seemed very confused (again!) and insisted that we could only order from the specialty drinks menu. Maybe this is true, maybe it's not. Either way, it's ridiculous that we couldn't order something as simple as a Jack and Coke. Food came out rather haphazardly. Not everyone's arrived at the same time (we're talking at least a 10 minute gap here). My dish, despite being order off the vegetable section, came with some type of a mystery meat. This was one of the few times in my life where I sent a dish back. They remade it without meat, but it ended up being insanely spicy - our waitress failed to mention the excessive amount of peppers when I asked what vegetables were in it and I ended up switching dishes with my boyfriend. Second dish, while not spicy, was cloyingly sweet and definitely not what I had wanted. As far as price goes, had things run a little smoother, then it would've been fair. However, with all the snafus, I felt like we were over-paying for the evening. Also, I agree about them rushing to get you out. Despite, numerous open tables, they definitely hovered as I was taking my final bite and grabbed the plate away from me. Lastly, while we can't be sure it was from the food, my boyfriend did have some stomach problems that night. Definitely not worth a return. read more

When we first moved into the area we tried and liked but then they increased the price and quality went out the window. I used to like the Singapore Curry noodle but when I recently tried again the chicken was soft and a horrible texture. Plus they added a $5 charge to add chicken! Stay away! The crab rangoons were all cream cheese and stuffed with with it, beef Lo Mein barely has any beef ( about 5 pieces), and the chicken pad Thai that we also order as a mix with beef, had 2-3 pieces of beef. It's happened time and time again, but I thought you were different and would be our forever Chinese food go to. Did the cook leave? Did the ownership change hands?
