I had limited expectations with a place like Mai Tai's, and in the times I have passed that establishment, I have yet to eat over there. Today, I guess was a good time to do it. I decided between the spicy chicken sandwich and the fish tacos, and I guess the tacos made more sense today. The place looked elegant to be in for a bar, and had plenty of seating to choose from. The food was great...felt like something I would enjoy if I were in baja California on a nice bright day. All in all, good stuff. Great place to hang in Ala Moana after all the shops close! They have happy hour Sunday-Thursday 8pm-11pm. Mostly just $3 off drinks, but it's something! We also went on Tuesday and they had $2 tacos and margarita pitchers! Very yummy. Its very loud in here, fyi. They normally have live music which is great, everyone we've heard was very pleasant! Mai Tai's, definitely an 'experience'. It's more of a tourist spot, due to its location, but popular with the locals who are looking for a wild night out. They've got great Happy Hour deals on most appetizers and over a dozen specialty drinks as well as beer and wine. The food was plentiful and the drinks make you happy. After 7pm (Friday) the place got full but not too crowded, very happy but not crazy. I'm in town a lot and it's definitely a 'permanent' go-to spot. read more

We waited for a long time for a server to come, although it was really busy she walked by us about four times and never stopped to to see how we were doing or if we want to order some drinks. The service was a little bit slow at first, some chairs and a table opened up closer to the bar so we moved, and she finally stopped by our table. Poor experience. First, there were small bugs crawling all over the menus. Next, they brought out the wrong food after a very long wait. Then did absolutely nothing to fix the situation. I don't normally write negative reviews but this was a really negative experience. I generally do not complain about food experiences but I was disappointed that they did nothing to help out other than take off the wrong food we never ordered. It wasn't very cold and a little flat. My first choice was a blue moon, which wasn't very cold and it was flat. Came to Mai Tai's to experience their Happy Hour They have $10 specialty drinks and half off appetizers. Open seating when we arrived and sat on a comfy couch in their open air restaurant. Loved the Lilikoi Mojito and the original Mai Tai was spot on. Pupus menu is half off so everything is a super good value. We had the Smashed beef sliders and the Fried Calamari and fries. Smash Burgers were good. Brioche buns with tomato and onion sauce melted cheese and lettuce. The calamari was excellent. Lightly breaded and fried to a light golden brown crust. Served with a cocktail and siracha mayo dipping sauce which was my favorite. Surprisingly the fries were fantastic. Around 4:00 the live music started and we did not know what to expect. Hoping it wasn't going to be loud obnoxious music. Happily it was solo artist singing local folk music which was very pleasing and comforting. I had a 1pm appointment at a jewelry store so I stopped in at Mai Tai's for a quick lunch. There weren't many patrons so I found a sofa on the North side and ordered a Hendricks gin & tonic ($12) and the fish tacos ($22). Mai Tai's remains a nice open air space to relax. There is a large bar at the entrance and regular and high tables in the middle and Hawaiian-themed sofas and occasional chairs around the periphery. My drink was refreshing though it came with a lime instead of a cucumber slice. The tacos came with tortilla chips and a small container of salsa. I poured half of the salsa atop the tacos. The tacos were decent ... I wished they came with two tortillas per taco as the juices from the veggies and salsa made them very fragile. After dinner, my girlfriend, her cousins, and I went to Mai Tais. They have security at the front to check IDs and give you a stamp. When you enter, you just pick your own table and sit down and the waitress came to us right away and asked what kind of drinks we wanted before we really got a chance to look at the menu. Shortly after another waitress asked us again and we barely looked at the menu. So I felt a little rushed (it's a Monday and it wasn't as busy). The drinks were like $13 a drink so not bad. I ordered the mango chili blended drink and the others got the lychee sunset and mango sunrise. All the drinks were good. My drink was sour and then had that nice kick to it, all which I liked. I would order the same thing again when I go back. The ambiance was nice. They have live music playing, which I enjoy. They also have small TVs at the bar area playing sports. It's located on the 4th floor of the Ala Moana Center, open air style next to a California Pizza Kitchen. Happy hour included $10.00 USD specialty drinks, $2.00 off beer pints and 50% off 6 food options. Live music was enjoyable (musician did two sets) and there's plenty of TV's showing hockey and football. Favourite HH drink was the lychee sunset, but tried several others. Mai Tai's never disappoints with fabulous food and service. This time we took our son who loved their chicken sandwich with fries and Tamarin kept his Coke Zero filled before his last sips emptied the glass. That is some good waitressing there. My husband had a cheese burger with fries which he just loved and a margarita. I had the buffalo wings that were hellah fat and juicy which filled me up pretty good and the beer was good too. I love that it has lounge seating and we can watch whatever games are on or have some serious chit-chatting. We haven't been to Mai Tai's during live music yet hopefully soon. Absolutely horrible experience here. To start, I was given a warm cup of water and no menu. After getting a menu I ordered a pitcher of beer and two appetizers. I asked for a cold glass but the server said they don't do that here. My appetizers took 30 mins to come out and my server gave it to the wrong table. It took another 10 mins to get my appetizers. They were ice cold. I quickly sent the appetizers ack. Following that I had to leave, I waved down the server asked for the bill and left. My server was not attentive, not personable and failed to check to see if we needed refills. We noticed she sat on her phone often. Maybe our experience would have been different with a different server but 0/10 would recommend coming here. Ala Moana has much better bars to offer. read more

This place is very busy for late night. And a good option when everything else is closed. The fish tacos are pretty good but the salsa lacks flavor. It's just your basic bland salsa. It's a little weak to offer chips and salsa and only provide a small ramekin of salsa. The frozen drink was pretty good.
