Food come out REALLY fast, within 5 minutes or so for my table of 4. Thai tea was a bit too sweet for me, but super huge serving for $2.50! Comes in a huge glass with a straw that has a rose, super cute. The Pad Thai was AMAZING! Flavorful and flavors hits your palate like crazyyyy. My husband & I have eaten at the Mai Thai restaurant a few times. The food is good but the service & friendliness of the staff is terrible! Tonight, when we arrived, the restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered & thought we would have been served pretty quickly! Twenty minutes later, a group of 4 came in & ordered food. They got served before us! In fact, I think they got our order of chicken satay & rice! It took a while just to get our hot sake! My biggest complaint is the unfriendliness of the servers. We have noticed this every time we have dined there. They are not friendly at all, no smiling! Our server did not apologize for the delay until we paid the check & gave us a 50% discount. That was nice, but an apology when serving our delayed food would have been better & much appreciated! Service with a smile is more important than a discount! The crave of Thai food can not be denied. Visiting family in Concord, I picked up my daddy for Thai. He tried this place pre Covid and hadn't been here in a year. He's an adventurous eater. I love Thai food, heaving visited Thailand, cooking it at home and answering the crave often. I'm not a fan of Pad Thai. So I order Pad See Eww, chicken and tofu. It arrives a little more saucy than I expected. But no matter, the taste is spot on mmmm. Perfect. Next, Green Curry. My dad's never had. It's my fav and a few spoons in (I advise to eat w a spoon), it's his too! Full of vegetables including eggplant, which was perfectly cooked. Last was the special- Kung Muk Prik Pow (none of the staff could break down its meaning, it's a heavenly seafood dish that can't be expressed in words) - exquisitely cut squid, shrimp, mushrooms in a broth of chili. Dad likes it all and will be back, tucking a to go menu in the bag of heftily filled to go boxes. Large portions. Helpful and super efficient host/server Kayla. The price was great-$50 bucks for a ton of food enough for four (there were only two of us), with drinks. Mom & Dad have food for a few more meals. Only downer is limited hours. It had been a while since I'd been to a Thai restaurant - local options in the Clayton Valley area seemed limited to the Bronze Buddha, which we found disappointing. But for some reason I had overlooked Mai Thai 2, which finally caught my attention on a "nearby" yelp search. Of course Mai Thai 2 is easy to overlook. It's in one of those slapdash, small shopping areas with only three or four stores. It has an unassuming corner location and an unbecoming look to it. Just passing by, it would not catch my eye, or tempt me to enter. Looks can be deceiving. Inside it is pleasantly decorated and appealing. Obviously it has a good local following, as a Friday found the restaurant bustling with customers, both eating in and getting to-go. My wife and I both had the Chicken Pad Thai. Quite delicious, and the portion size was huge - we took the leftovers home and it made for a complete second meal! We also had lemonade, and this lemonade had a distinctive taste, maybe a subtle taste of tamarind or something similar. I'm impressed when you can make something unique out of lemonade. Not blessed with a huge interior, the restaurant makes the most of it with tables that are aligned somewhat close to each other. Was feeling under the weather and had a craving for some Tom Yum soup. Sort of like a Filipino sinigang type of soup that has a sour tangy soup base with lots of mushrooms, and herbs, and meat of your choice. I chose chicken and it was light and came to the table piping hot. We also tried the green curry with brown rice. The sauce was not oily/heavy based. There was plenty of chicken and veggies and had a nice hint of coconut milk. This is place is one of my very favorite Thai places that I've ever been to. The staff are always prompt, helpful, and friendly! My go to dishes are the pad Thai, pumpkin curry, and how can I forget their platha! Pad thai is soooo delicious! The flavor is strong and more on the sweeter side, but savory enough. I love the addition of how thick the "sauce" is. I can never go without ordering this whenever I go here. The pumpkin curry is also a little on the sweet side and definitely satisfying. There have been times where I don't really get a pumpkin taste, but that doesn't bother me much because the flavors are still tasty. Lastly, the platha is a must-have for an appetizer. It comes with a small curry dipping sauce and it has a little crunch to it! This place is also open during the COVID-19 pandemic and I couldn't resist getting takeout to support the business! They don't have a way to monitor how people come in and out, so I would just recommend making sure no one else is around, if you are wanting to social distance or are cautious about being around others. We got the Pad Thai with prawns and Penang Curry with pork and a side of rice. Every time I try a new Thai place I always get Pad Thai because that's how I gage if I'll like it or not. The Pad Thai was perfect. Not too dry, and not over loaded with bean spouts and peanuts. It's a good balance and the noodles weren't over cooked which I'm used to having from other restaurants. My husband usually picks up orders on his way home from work- we have enjoyed it the last several years. Last Friday my husband had the day off and wanted to go to lunch- we picked Mai Tai 2. We were even more happy eating in. We ordered the Thai tea- so good. My husband ordered the drunken noodles with tofu. I ordered the eggplant. We loved our food so much I got the pumpkin curry to take to work with me the next day. Again- we were not disappointed. We went again a few days later- enjoyed Thai tea, drunken noodles and pumpkin curry- both with tofu. If you eat at the restaurant, the meal comes with a very nice salad with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes in a nice dressing. I forgot to ask if we could buy the dressing- but it was that good!!!! Never a problem with parking. Always people in the restaurant, but not overly crowded. Great place to visit with other people in our party. That's often a pet peeve of mine at other places where it's hard to converse with your party due to noise volume or bad acoustics in the restaurant. read more

Hands down, probably one of my favorite Thai restaurant out of all the Thai places I've tried all location in concord, pleasant hill, and walnut creek. I found this location through a friend of mine and it very well flavored out with all the dishes! Nothing is too much here, its evenly balanced out from the spiciness to the actual food itself. Usually, when I order anything spicy, it's just flat out spicy and the spice takes over the actual flavor of the food but this place does not do that. I got myself: -pad thai with seafood (med spicy) -pad see ew with chicken (med spicy) -papaya salad (spicy) -tom yum soup -green curry Let me start of saying, green curry is probably better than yellow. I used to be a big fan of yellow curry but after trying the green curry, omg taste changed! Green curry= a lot of greens and it was sweet yet yummy. I didn't get tired of the sweetness compare to yellow curry. Tom yum soup is my favorite, the strong smell to the soup might throw off people but I love the unique taste to it. It's so good! This is actually our favorite local thai place and we have been getting takeout here very frequently for YEARS so we know it well. Their prices are good and they also have super tasty gluten free noodle dish options which is lacking with other Thai restaurants nearby. Then why the 1 star rating? It has become increasingly difficult to order takeout. More specifically, when I have called with an order during the last few weeks, no one picks up the phone after trying at least 5 times. And who wants to call back that many times? This was also an issue in the past but I'd usually get someone on the 3rd or 4th try - not any longer. In fact, I'm questioning whether or not they are still doing takeout. If they are, it is SUPER frustrating to be so inaccessible. The absolute best Thai food in the area since we moved back to Concord in 2014. Incredibly authentic and incredibly quick when you call in for take out. At most they'll take 15-20 min and if they are busy they'll let you know the order will take some time. They ALWAYS have basketball on which I love! Their Thai Iced tea is also phenomenal. We usually order the Basil Chicken (they'll make it with ground chicken if you ask) and the Drunken Noodles which are super tasty. The eggplant chicken (with ground chicken) is also amaze. Was craving Thai food so tried Mai Thai 2 out. I was looking for something inexpensive. There are 3 Thai restaurants in a 2-mile radius so this is the only one I had yet to try. I ordered takeout - Pad Thai with chicken, Panang Curry with Chicken, and Jasmine Rice. The food was ready quickly and hot, service was friendly and quick. The flavors of the food was good - we ordered medium spicy and they weren't playing. My toddler couldn't hang but she tried lol. The only thing I was disappointed with was the Panang Curry, I felt like it was full of green beans and bell pepper more than anything and was sparse on the chicken. I will probably give it another try sometime, maybe their lunch specials since we mostly work from home and it seems like a good deal. read more

VERDICT: Unfriendly apathetic service, watered down food. Server had one earbud in his ear listening to music while taking our order and seemed a bit impatient until it was time to pay the bill. Not returning here. SUMMARY: Hoping to find a good Thai restaurant in Concord, we followed the stars on Yelp to Mai Thai 2. What we found was disappointing in all regards except for one. FOOD: We ordered vegetable masaman curry and pad thai. Every new Thai place we typically judge by their pad thai. While the portion size was pretty large, the noodles were drowned in somewhat of a reddish thai sauce that we're not used to having. Typically pad thai that we're used to having and tastes better has more of an orange-ish hue. Coupled with the unusual sauce color, the taste was almost too sweet. So sweet in fact that I had to put a lot of Thai chilis (+1 for having the REAL Thai chilis) and thai pepper powder on it to offset this candy-like Pad thai. Most disappointing was the vegetable masaman curry. There was not a single drop of coconut milk in it. I checked various Thai cooking websites to validate that masaman should include coconut milk and I couldn't find one that didn't. We ended up eating a small portion and then we took the rest home. We ate it the next day and I fixed it by adding some coconut milk to it (luckily I had a can at home). We also ordered two Thai iced teas. They were huge, served in a very tall glass that people at other tables kept staring at. We should've ordered only one. Despite the ostentatious glass, the Thai iced tea was good. SERVICE Now this really ticked me off. The younger waiter, who I presume is the son of the friendly owner, had one iphone ear bud in his ear and listening to music. When he was taking our order, he had difficulty hearing what we wanted. Plus when he was taking our order, he spoke so fast that it was difficult to understand. "Whakindamit". We were like "I'm sorry, what?" To which he didn't hear at first. Then he repeated "What kind of meat?" quickly again and I heard it more clearly, but I could tell he seemed bothered that things weren't understood and/or our order wasn't being taken as fast as he'd like. ATMOSPHERE Very ordinary, but had accents of a Japanese restaurant. Strange. CLEANLINESS A plus that this place was kept clean (at least in the dining area). BATHROOM Didn't visit. OTHER The place across the street is equally bad. Looks like we'll have to travel back to Walnut Creek to Vanda Thai for our Thai food fix. read more

Very good. Unlike Bob K, I judge a Thai restaurant on its Pad Kee Mau (drunken noodles) which is an actual Thai dish (unlike Pad Thai which is an invented dish for US servicemen in fact). And, although not as good as the one the previous owners made, it was the best of any of the restaurants in the surrounding cities that I am aware of. Our service has always been fine and the food tasty and prompt. No complaints. Quite large portions, as noted elsewhere. Only negative for us is the Treat and Ygnacio traffic at dinner time. We had not been to Mai Thai 2 in several months and noticed several changes. When we asked, we learned it was under new ownership/management within the last several months. While the pleasant decor is about the same, many other things have changed including the website, the wait staff, the ordering (the server uses a tablet), and the menu. The menu is expanded so one has even more choices. We began by sharing the summer rolls. Very generous serving. A little short on the shrimp but overall flavorful and fresh. We both decided to try something new. DH had the Drunk Noodle with Chicken, while I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken with a side of rice. I took a risk with that dish as sweet and sour dishes can often be too sweet. Not the case at Mai Thai 2, it was prepared perfectly. Much to our surprise the servings were very large -- larger than we remember from the past owner. We both needed take-out boxes and were able to make a light supper the following evening with our leftovers. We ended the meal with a dish of coconut ice cream. Apparently the kitchen was down to one scoop of the ice cream so rather than each getting a dish we shared. The ice cream was a bit on the soft side and, in my opinion, not as tasty as what we get at Woung Luang on Todos Santos Square. But all in all a pleasant way to end the meal. Mai Thai 2 can sometimes feel crowded, compared say to Woung Luang. But it is more convenient for us than going to downtown Concord. All in all Mai Thai 2 remains our "go to" restaurant for Thai food in the Concord area. I did downgrade from four to three stars. It will take another visit or two before I go back to four stars. The presentation of the food did not seem as "artful" as in the past, and the servers seemed a bit harried and too casual. read more
