We had to inquire about sitting. Asked for menus, had to ask to order. Servers personalities were non existent. Pad Thai was not on point. It was odd colored and lacked a fresh flavor. Chicken in pad Thai tasted plain & seems to be added to the dish after the pad was plated. The snow crab & noodle dish lacked flavor. Overall the experience was as if we should be thankful to eat there b/c of the lackluster service and the food lacked fresh taste ...both dishes tasted pretty much the same. I moved to Concord half a year ago and finally had a chance to go to a Thai restaurant. I came for lunch around 2:30 and there was a constant flow of customer both to go and for dine in. After living in the East Bay for almost 5 years, I am still on the hunt for a good Thai restaurant. Since Mai Thai is pretty well rated, my husband and I decided to have dinner here. We are from Moraga, so it's a drives away, especially that the location is pretty far from the freeway. But if the food is good, I am willing to travel! My husband and I started with the stuffed wings, they also have another chicken wing appetizer, and I am sure it's good too. The stuffed wings were good, it's almost like an eggroll, but the wrapping is the skin of the chicken wing! It was delicious. The hubby ordered his usual, Chicken Pad Thai and I went for the Panang Chicken Curry. The presentation of the food is good and pleasing to the eyes of a foodie! The Panang Curry was tasty, with slices of chicken breast. My husband liked his Pad Thai as well as my curry. Needless to say, we did not have left overs. Service was great! I was feeling like Thai food since I haven't had it in a while. I looked up Thai restaurants that were close by since I didn't feel like driving all the way to Pleasant Hill to my usual Thai place. This one had the simple items that I wanted compared to the Thai restaurant across the street. I scanned the menu for a go to. I have a couple of things that I order when I get Thai food and I thought the simplest is ordering Pad See Ew. I ordered it and had chicken as the meat. I tried it and thought it was good. The chicken was a bit dry so next time I think I'll get beef. Noodles were good and the vegetables are good. The pot stickers had a mustard flavor and that was a little strange. I didn't expect it to be sauced up. I guess I'm used to Chinese pot stickers pan fried. Overall, I think I would come back and order something else. Maybe try a curry or some salad. read more

It's real easy to miss but it's a place you definitely don't want to pass up. They have traditional Thai cuisine and I'd say the best Thai food you can get in the area. I've tried most of the Thai restaurants in Concord and Mai Thai 2 is by far the best one. Drop in for there Lunch special, it's a great deal! - The service is great, attentive, knowledgable and fast. I wish I knew her name but the server is amazing, she's been there for a while I assume she's a core part of this establishment that could be family run. - The place is small but the ambiance is very nice. While it may be small there's plenty of room to enjoy a meal with your family at a place that can provide some really good food and service. My favorite Thai in all of Concord. Granted there are only like five or six restaurants, but this is at the top of my list and it comes down to one thing. The fry bread. The Roti here slaps in a major way. It comes with a yellow curry sauce to dip it in, and it is delicious. It's like a croissant mixed with nan. I order it every time. Their Thai tea is huge & they got the "light ice" just right... most places don't care to pay attention to it when we ask. The people here are friendly, I noticed a lot of people that came in, they already knew ("regulars") so that's a good sign. The service was super quick. We came in for Father's Day, dad had to work so he only had an hour lunch. We came in about 20 mins before him to start ordering & were already eating by the time he got there. Its a yellow curry and needless to say my hubby and i devoured it. And its a large portion so please believe i ate some more for prelunch snack next day. *Drunken noodles. Very very good. I got it with fried tofu as im vegetarian and i always double check that nothing has fish sauce in it so that was good to go. I dont have much to say cause roti was star of the show but noodles were close second, great authentic flavor. *mango sticky rice...ooey goey goodness. Classic thai dessert made exquisitely. I've always loved the food here even though we live in Antioch. Today my son drove here to get me some Pad See Ew. if you like Pad See Ew, you know that it is ALWAYS mild and NEVER spicy! Small, hole-in-the-wall Thai food on Clayton Road in Concord. Don't let the outside fool you. This is hands down the best Thai food in the area. The prices are great! You can eat in, or carry-out. I always forget to post my ratings on yelp. My husband and I eat here maybe 10 times a month. Everything here is delicious! The woman with the colored hair ( I say colored because she changes it everytime we visit, pink, blue, green, purple) has very good customer service. She is welcoming and very nice. I always pass by this restaurant and didn't think much of it because of its location until I had dinner with a fellow foodie that swore by this place so I knew I had to try it out. The staff was really accommodating, which made my experience a little less stressful. Since this was our first time trying out this restaurant, we wanted to try dishes we always order. We ordered Tom kha with tofu to start and it was so good. It hit every taste bud in my mouth. Then we ordered the Larb Chicken, which I've never had before, but it was really delicious and light. For our entrees, we had crab fried rice, Pad se ew with chicken, and Pineapple curry. Pad se ew is my favorite Thai dish and I must say that it was so delicious here. The noodles were wide, soft and perfect. My son, who is a picky eater, loved the Pad se ew. That was a huge plus for me. The portions are a good size and between the 3 of us, we had a ton of leftovers. My overall experience with Mai Thai was very pleasant. The staff was really nice and the ambiance is relaxing. It's really not what I expected given its location, but it definitely is one of those holes in the wall and has really great food. I would pick this over the 3 Thai restaurants by my house any day. On one extremely random Friday, a friend and I decided to have Thai food for dinner. Definitely don't let the outside appearance fool you! It may look like a hole in the wall restaurant; however, the interior of this restaurant is warm, inviting, and cozy. I'm satisfied with the service they provided here. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs and was friendly as well. We ended up staying past their closing time, but they didn't rush us to leave the restaurant. The food here is amazing! I was surprised at how large the portion sizes were here! You get what you pay for, which is awesome since they aren't super pricey. My only complaint is that you have to pay for rice as a side item. For instance, I ordered red curry chicken, but my jasmine rice wasn't included with the meal. I'm very happy with our dining experience here and I look forward to dining here again. read more

Came here on a Monday evening with my husband for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised when we first walked in...it's a small place but very comfortable and cozy. My husband had the "Spicy Seafood" and a side order of Jasmine rice. His order came with a large assortment of shellfish and other types of seafood and a few veggies. He must have really liked it because he didn't offer a bite! I had the Pumpkin Curry with prawns and a side order of coconut rice. My dish came with kabocha, a Japanese squash, not the traditional pumpkin that you might imagine. It was still very good. My only complaint is that other than the "pumpkin" the only other vegetable was strips of green bell pepper. It would have been nice if there were a few other veggies...veggies are not that expensive... One thing that I am not exactly thrilled with is the close proximity of the tables....ours was so close to the next that they joined in our conversation. Given where it is, Mai Thai is a good Thai , not great. It has a strip mall location that doesn't excite as well as tired decor. The server seemed more interested in our party of 3 doing takeout than dining in. The vegetarian in our group with thrilled with the grilled veggie platter. I got my favorite pumpkin curry only to be disappointed by the broth which was weak and not spicy at all. Our companion hit the jackpot with the grilled eggplant. Delish!
