Mai Thai has a great location but this it the second time my wife and I have had issues with the restaurant. Service is average at best, after you are seated you won't see anyone for drinks or questions until they come to take your order. During our last visit both of our dishes were missing one vegetable each (one mushroom, one bean sprouts) which we were not told about. But if you LOVE Akon this is the place for you, Akon was played from the time we sat down until we left. Considering the menu prices I would elsewhere for better options. read more

Saw this place after walking around the farmers market Sunday. I was super excited because I have not had Thai food in over a year and a half since moving here. My expectations were high, since a good friend of mine owns a Thai restaurant back home. Ordered two dishes Thai places should NEVER mess up, Pad Thai and chicken satay....needless to say, they messed it up. The food lacked any other flavor besides salt, IT WAS ALL WAY TOO SALTY. Atmosphere is good, wide open space and fairly comfortable. As for the food, I ordered chicken basil fried rice and it was a lil too salty. Decided to do something different and had seen several reviews of this restaurant. Be advised, we don't usually eat Thai. Went for a lunch on a weekday. Busy, but service was friendly and fairly quick. I asked for a recommendation as did my wife. I got the Pad Thai and she got the Mango Fried Rice. We split an order of spring rolls (5 ea) and edamame (bowl). Spring rolls were crispy and decent served with a small side of sweet and sour sauce. The edamame was 'served in its' pod heavily sprinkled with salt (Tasty) You can order the "heat" you desire for your food on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the lowest heat and 5 bringing the heat. Wife got a 1 with the fried rice and I got a 3 for the Pad Thai. Dishes arrived in a reasonable amount of time...in fact, they arrived before we finished out appetizers. Wife enjoyed the Mango Fried Rice and would get it again. My Pad Thai was good with just about the right amount of heat. Would have liked just a bit more peanut sauce, but good nevertheless. Overall a good choice. We'd eat there again, but would not necessarily go across town just to dine there. Have to have a reason to already be in the vicinity of Aksarben Village. read more

We've been in 3 times now and the food is always excellent. A bit pricier than some other places, but you're paying extra for the atmosphere and pretty vegetable flowers they adorn your plate with I suppose. I highly recommend the egg rolls and mango rangoons for appetizers. The Bangkok Noodles and Panang Curry are two favorite main dishes and our kids love the Peanut Butter Chicken. Took a break from studying to find some good carry-out food and my mom recommended this restaurant. The hostess was nice and offered us lemon water while we waited for our food. I like the 1-5 star range for spicy foods. I think I chose 3 stars and the flavor was what would be typical for a dish prepared for a group setting. Not too spicy, but filled with flavor! The food is incredible (pricey), especially the mango rangoons. 2 star heat is about all I can take, gets the nose running and lips burning but not so bad that you can't eat. Stopped in on a snowy Saturday to get some take out. Was super impressed with the phone service order. Got the usual pad Thai and some crab rangoons and asked for a recommendation. Was very pleased. Ambiance of the restaurant was quaint. Love the signs and what looked to be comfy seating. Service was quick at pickup, and I got my "utensils" Pad Thai was great with chicken 5/5 spicy was perfect for my taste. To be fair, this was my first visit here, and I went with my normal group, my boyfriend and the fam bam. We absolutely LOVE Mai Thai, we are common guests to the one near Oakview, but we decided to try this location out because it was closer to down town too. We got there and three of us waited a bit for our tables, it was very busy and loud here. They've got a contemporary feel going on with splashes of Thai influences throughout. We decided on putting two tables together, it no matter that one was smaller than the other we just wanted to eat. We sat down,took us about a minute to decide what we wanted and we ordered. Then we talked...and talked...where's our lunch...and talked. Mind u we sat down about 12:45...it was already 1:15 and two of our party already had to leave to go back to work. Granted, it was busy AND they were doing to go orders, but the wait time for our food was really long. I love the owner, the food, and the place, but this is one thing I know they will want to improve on. By the time our food did come, we were so hungry most of us chowed it down quickly. It was nicely prepared and pleasing to the eye. I decided to deviate from my normal order of Pad Thai with Shrimp and decided on the garlic noodles with BBQ beef, it was amazing! The give you a lot so I was able to bring some leftovers for my mom. My boyfriend got his usual thai fried rice and for him it was worth the wait. He absolutely LOVED it. We visited as a couple on a Friday night. As the other reviews state, the food is good! We enjoyed the chicken mango fried rice, fried tofu, and golden pouches. All cooked well and seasoned nicely. The portions were generous (and leftovers were good even on the second day). The service was very good. The wait staff was attentive and polite. (Evidently changes were made since some of those bad reviews.) Our only complaint was that the a/c was too cold. Hot tea helped balance this out! read more

I came here to meet a friend for food and a drink before a hockey game. It was conveniently close and neither of us had been here before. I was pleased with the Chicken Mango entree I ordered. There was a good mix of ingredients without anything being overwhelming. I was hungry and it did the trick. I ordered a Tidal Wave with my meal that tasted like tropical punch and I wasn't too impressed with it. My bill alone was around $25 for my meal and drink. Minus the drink, it was a fair price. We were there for an hour or two and didn't feel rushed to get out which was nice. The server was present enough to make sure I was taken care of without me feeling like I was being nagged. When I went back to use the restroom I noticed a rather dank smell in the hallway. I was surprised to find out it wasn't coming from the bathroom. Let's get this out of the way: if you're looking for a quiet little hole in the wall with authentic Asian decor and super-friendly service, this probably isn't your first choice. The place is essentially a concrete room more akin to a cafeteria than a restaurant, and the servers tackle tables through teamwork and efficiency. We had three or four different people waiting on us and they were all pretty much focused exclusively on their jobs. That said, nobody was rude and the restaurant is clean. The food was really great. We tried the spring rolls, mango crab rangoon, beef pho and garlic/peanut noodle with chicken. Everything was very tasty, and for spice-wimps like myself they can really tone down the heat if you ask them to. We thought the prices were great, coming in with appetizers at under 20 bucks per person if you forego the adult beverages. Since it's so close to our apartment, we'll undoubtedly be back to try more. For now, it's a solid four from me. read more

I stopped by for lunch today, eager for something non-greasy, for a change. The place was pretty busy when I got there (about 12:15) on a weekday. I was seated promptly, but had to wait a bit before the waitress stopped by. She was pleasant enough, but not memorable, in my opinion. I ordered the hot chicken curry, with the 3/5 star heat rating. It took about 20-25 minutes for it to arrive, but it was oh-so-worth it. Wow. "Nom" is the correct description, I believe. I also had a pot of fresh green tea, which was a great companion. There were lots of unique and delicious-looking items on the menu; I only regret that I was in town for work, and don't plan on being back anytime soon. If you are looking for a unique dining experience in the area, I heartily recommend this place. 4/5 due to slower service. read more

The food is really good. For a person who tries and eat Thai food in many different cities, this place was great. I placed an order over phone and turned up here right after so by the time I arrived, we had our food ready. Service is quick and fast. I had the Bangcock noodles as my entree and it was yummy. What the hell is going on? Almost 2 years ago I gave these guys feedback about removing the tails from the shrimp. But they haven't changed at all. I would ask every customer to answer this question: would you like to have tails on your cooked shrimp or not? Do you enjoy fishing around in your curry, or your fried rice to remove all of the tails? I'm going to guess that there aren't very many customers who say "yes, I really love doing that." I think it's similar to how you'd feel about removing the feathers from your chicken, or removing skin and fur from your beef. Why would any restaurant continue to do this when they've been alerted to how horrible it is? Why wouldn't a restaurant respond to this feedback? I would never go back to this restaurant ever again under any circumstance is. What a truly horrible place. read more

Consistently good! I get take-out from Mai Thai since it is just around the corner. Their take out service is always spot on. I've eaten in the restaurant a few times and service has steadily improved since its opening. Love their Chicken Pad Thai which I get at a spice level of 3. Whenever I go to Mai Thai I get their Basil Fried Rice and I'm satisfied every time. This most recent time we ordered the crunchy tofu which was extremely well done! The sauce they serve with it is delicious. The portions are large enough to share and the service is usually quick. I'm also never disappointed by their signature Mai Thai drinks. The decor is modern but nothing out of the ordinary. It's always clean and usually pretty quiet during the work week. read more

Our group was visiting from out of town and decided to try this local restaurant in the Aksarben area. They do not offer a full bar, but had plenty of beer, wine and cocktails to choose from including Singha and Chang beer. Our group ordered everything from green curry to pad Thai to Tom yum soup and we were quite impressed with everything. The food was seasoned well. The service was a little slow and it seems that the server could have used some helped, but he still did a great job of checking on the table when he was able. I will definitely be back! read more

Nothing tastes really fresh...not inedible, but not impressive. The service is across the board. There does not seem to be any order in the dining room. The food was pretty okay, but I ordered ahead of time. They said 35 minutes. When I arrived after 45 minutes, they said "5-10 more minutes please." Just fine. Food was good but not the best I have tasted. I ordered the pad thai and my friends ordered yellow curry and fried rice. The curry was a little on the small side... not worth the money, I think. Service was horrible. I mean it was a Friday night but still, our food took 50 minutes to serve and it wasn't all brought out at once. We wanted to sit at another table and our host (who turned out to be the bartender as well) gave us a hard time about sitting at a different table even though, it was free.
