Honestly I wanted to like this place so much. Our server was nice and gave us great service, however the food... was not good. My boyfriend ordered the sausage pasta dish and it literally came out with zero sauce on it. It had a crumbled sausage and broccoli on top with Parmesan but had zero sauce and was so dry. We thought it was some kind of kitchen mistake but unfortunately that's just the way they created the dish. I ordered the Cacio y Pepe and it wasn't very good either. The chicken was served in small chunks and was overcooked and dry. The sauce was alright but it was in no way an authentic cacio y Pepe. I really think they need to re-evaluate the way they execute some of the dishes. Doesn't need to be some fancy approach but definitely needs to be rethought. =\ read more

The food is really good here but last service was a head scratcher. After bringing out our appetizers and drinks super quickly, we waited nearly AN HOUR for our entrees. I think our food went out to another table but our server did not come and let us know what was going on. May be a while till we return. read more

Delicious lasagna dinner last night at Maialina in Fountain Square. Carciofi, Tuscan Kale salad, Lasagna, and of course chocolate gelato. The meal was paced nicely... we split the lasagna - the waitress was kind and brought on two plates. The main dishes are large portions! Sat near the bar, nice spot for dinner, busy but not noisy, appreciate that they don't have music blaring. I must be getting old as that is my complaint eating out now... noise! read more

Another great new restaurant in the Fountain Square area. My wife took me for my birthday and we loved the experience from beginning to end. The service is on-point and friendly. Our scheduled table faced a super bright sunset and they didn't hesitate to move us. We both had delicious pasta dishes, salads and dessert ... it was all fantastic (special kudos to my sausage and peppers). We really enjoyed this place! After waiting for felt like forever, we finally got to try it out and were not disappointed! The only thing that could have been better was that it was pretty noisy and hot. It was a really warm day outside, so I get that some of the heat was due to that, but it would have been nice to not sweat while eating. We will definitely be back though! We had an incredible meal! 4 of us, so sampled many dishes-all amazing, and very reasonably priced. I will be craving the Tuscan kale salad and cacio e pepe! Lovely decor, excellent service (especially for its first weekend open!). The air conditioning was not working well during the heat wave, but we were called by the restaurant and problem was explained ahead of time. We chose to keep our reservation, and though warm, the room was quite comfortable with fans going. We really appreciated being forewarned-nice touch. Tonight was our first time dining at Maialina. We had 5 in our party. We will definitely be going back...everything we had (appetizers, dinner and dessert) was delicious. My husband and I were excited to try Maialina since we're big fans of Ambrosia, but we were very disappointed. Service was slow, but that was nothing compared to the food. We started with the garlic cheese bread which was cold, then the chopped salad- the highlight of our whole meal. My husband had the shrimp dish, which came with a sauce that tasted like it had cleaning products in it. I ordered the vodka pasta and had to send it back- it tasted like cold jarred marinara sauce with undercooked chicken thighs and overcooked rigatoni. The waitress brought me cacio e Pepe instead, and it was far from cacio e Pepe- instead just a heavy, bland Alfredo. I could only eat a couple of bites. Restaurant is in a great area, but keep walking! A jar of prego would taste more authentic than Maialina. read more

Service and atmosphere was fine but that's the only reason for 2 stars. If rating on food and drinks alone it'd be a one star. The fig-eddaboutit cocktail tasted only of lemon juice. The flatbread we ordered as an appetizer had about a pound of Gorgonzola on it which completely obliterated any other flavors that might have been lurking under it. Seriously the layer of funky cheese was thicker than the crust! I like the funk as much as the next guy but when on a flatbread you need to show some restraint if you want to taste the sausage, onion and fig jam that was supposedly there. The gnocchi was chewy instead of fluffy but I guess the flavor of the bolognese was alright. Girlfriend was not impressed by the meatballs so I didn't bother even trying them. Maybe it was an off night for the cooks/bartenders but I don't see myself going back. read more

Hands down the best Italian I've had since my trip to Italy 4 years ago! Indianapolis needed a place like this. Classic dishes that know the best flavor comes from staying true to simplicity and quality ingredients. So many Italian places over do the garlic, cream, and spices and therefore lose the beauty of so many dishes. This place DOES IT RIGHT. I had the gnocchi bolognese and they were perfect pillows of heaven. My friend got the sausage rigatoni and was also beyond impressed. Our waitress was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. Worth the drive from Cincinnati! Had the charcuterie plate, nona's meatballs, and the ricotta bruschetta for our appetizers - all were delicious and would get again! For main courses, we had the gnocchi bolognese, the mushroom ravioli, and the gamberi. The gamberi was the perfect level of spice and garlic and it came with a large portion of shrimp. The gnocchi bolognese, a family recipe, was a great hearty plate of comfort food. The mushroom ravioli was AMAZING. Don't skimp on dessert - the pumpkin cheesecake and chocolate cake were one of the highlights of our meal. On top of everything else, the staff from the cocktail bar was knowledgeable and made great drinks. 11/10 would recommend. read more

My husband and I live in the Fountain Square neighborhood and have been eager to try out Maialina and it did not disappoint. It fits perfectly into the Fountain Square downtown with its checkered floors and retro Italian wall art. The Godfather cocktail is definitely the way to start the meal. I got the classic spaghetti and meatballs and I was so excited to take my leftovers and enjoy the flavor again. We ended the meal with the delicious tiramisu that is just enough for two to share. I hosted a business dinner of 15 people for my client at Maialina Italian Kitchen. The food and service were both awesome and the bill was extremely reasonable. The private dining area gave us plenty of room to talk but still allowed us to enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the great aromas coming from the kitchen. We also received personal attention from the owner. The location right on the corner overlooking the fountain in Fountain Square was very convenient for my client, whose offices are near the circle in downtown Indy. If you're tired of taking your clients or business team to the Indy steak houses over and over, this is the place to go. read more
