OK, I have been hearing advertisements for Maiers Brick Cafe for sometime on local radio. I finally decided to try the place. They are located in Lynbrook NY. I ordered Chicken Karin, my wife ordered Chicken Schnitzel both dishes were really good. Included with each dish was soup or salad, we chose the soup, it was excellent a very hardy beef barley soup, had to be homemade. The restaurant itself harkens back to the days of local bars serving good food. While sitting there I expected Archie and Edith to stop by. The wait staff was attentative and friendly, the prices for the food fair. The owner a very lovely women, came over and welcomed us, how nice! We ordered two diet cokes, they were from the tap, I wasn't sure if the drinks were coke or RC Cola. I felt 2.50 for an 8oz Diet Coke was pricey, but that was really my only concern. In short, the food was good, the prices fair and the staff really friendly. What more can you ask for? One suggestion, they should put Chicken Parmigiana on the menu. read more

The Chateau Briand for 2 is the best I have ever had!! For under $50.00, you get huge portions. We never leave hungry and we never leave without taking home a doggy bag. I have tried other dishes and they did not have the "wow" factor but honestly we have never had a bad experience. Truly a "family" atmosphere: friendly and warm. Tried several dishes and found them to be delicious, well prepared with generous portions. I go there frequently with my family and friends. I came in and had the Prime Rib and it was amazing. Started my meal by splitting wings, jalapeño poppers and a shrimp cocktail with my buddy had their soup du jor which was a Manhattan clam chowder and all of it was top notch. The wait staff was amazing and the Guinness was poured perfectly. Everything was reasonably priced. Considering all we had to eat and drink I was shocked to see a bill under $100. I can't remember the last time I've gone out on Long Island with one of my buddies and spent less then $100 (yeah we drink a lot). Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back. read more

Recommended our friends to go tonight for the prime rib special. They made reservations for 7,got dressed ,drove a half an hour,parked,walked in rain,sat down,ordered.........oh noooooooooo!!!! Great food, warm and friendly atmosphere. This is a great laid back family owned neighborhood spot.

We really enjoyed the food and service at this neighborhood place. We tried in vain to get through to their reservation line, which was never answered, so just went. We had a 40 minute wait early on a Saturday evening, but the bar was pleasant and the bartender was a very efficient old fashioned pro. The Brick Sliced steak sandwich was terrific; tender, great mushroom gravy, but the steak fries were pretty limp and greasy. My husband loved the Prime Rib special, and the creamed spinach was perfect. It's a noisy, cozy, friendly spot for a good meal and a good drink. We will be back, hopefully with a reservation in hand next time. read more

While Maier's Brick Cafe may seem like a nice place to eat, I did not think it was anything special when I used to go here to eat with my friend. When you first enter Maier's Brick Cafe, you will find the bar and dining room to be divided into two parts and that the atmosphere is slightly dark, with paneling on the walls lined with sports memorabilia which made the atmosphere a little more interesting. When I first entered, I found it a bit odd that they served tortilla chips with chili as opposed to a breadbasket, as it was not a Mexican restaurant (it is an Irish American restaurant), but the spicy and meaty chili with tortilla chips was an alright way to start off our meal. For appetizers, I found their Buffalo Wings to be decent as they were on the large side and meaty and were served in a Buffalo sauce that was spicy enough to cause a pleasant heat tingle in the back of your throat. I also like the Burgers, which are fairly large and juicy. However, the appetizers and the burger is where the good news about the food ends. I found the Prime Rib, which is a weekend only special, to be slightly tough and very fatty as opposed to tender. The Chicken Kapalua, which is Grilled Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, had Grilled Chicken that was juicy but the Mixed Vegetables seemed like they were just frozen stir fry vegetables, ruining the dish and its presentation, which was messy and haphazard. I also tried the Broiled Waterside Combination another time, which has Shrimp, Scallops and Flounder. I found this dish to be rather bland and lacking taste. Depending on the season, you may also receive a complimentary seasonal vegetable dish with your meal, such as corn on the cob, which was sweet and steamed well (but then again, how hard is it to screw up corn?). The fries were crispy and cut in a wide fashion. I also found their salad to taste as it had been premade for dinner service, in spite of a tangy house dressing. While the food was poor at worst and mediocre at best, the excellent service saves me from giving Maier's Brick Cafe one star as opposed to two. This was so as I found the waitresses to be extremely friendly, efficient, and accomodating of my food allergies to eggs, wheat, and yeast. Also, the owner Hank is very friendly and makes sure that all his customers are happy! While the prices may seem reasonable in the low teens on average and dinners typically include your choice of soup or salad and sides, like some other yelpers, I would rather spend a little more for better food. In spite of the friendly service and decent burgers and appetizers, I would not go out of my way to Maier's Brick Cafe as I believe there are better choices of restaurants. read more

Tuesday evening 5/8 my wife and I decided to go to the Brick Café because we haven't been there in years. When we asked about the specials they told us that it was home cooking night and we said great. My wife had the chicken and I had the shrimp. It was the worst meal ever. Specifically about Thurs Specials/Irish Nite. My friends and I ordered the Crnd Beef & Cabbage and the Shepherd's Pie and we have never eaten more bland food. There was not a carrot, piece of onion or spice in site or tasted in the CB&C and the Shepherd's Pie was a mere few tblspns of grnd beef under some bland frozen mixed vegs. with some more bland mashed potatoes on top, even the blue cheese salad dressing needed salt and I never use a salt shaker at the table. Yes, it was inexpensive and the portions were ok for the price, $12.95, but I would rather spend more for some flavor. read more

Ate here with my wife and upon seeing the outside we joked that we were going to be the youngest customers inside......we were not wrong on that one. The decor is like going back in time to the 60-70's with dated paneling, dark worn out looking seating and in our case a really sticky table. The food was not worth going back for, steak that we could barely chew, salad that even a rabbit would not eat and that onion soup nothing to write home about so I won't. Our waitress was OK though. TERRIBLE!!!! Three of us went to Maier's Saturday Dec 7th. We all ordered the special, Prime Rib. Salad was great...then the meal itself came. Mine was rare, the other 2 medium. To start, they did not provide a steak knife or even a serrated blade, the flatware was dull in appearance as well as the cutting edge. I expected it to be fatty...a signature of the cut but it was beyond tough!!! The outer edge was edible, the rest was just TOUGH!! None of us managed to eat more than a bite or two. The wait staff was indifferent - not friendly but not UNfriendly, either. When the waitress asked if we were finished, she asked if she could wrap up the leftovers. Three barely touched pretty big cuts of meat. We said no and she gave us the check. Never a question...was there something wrong or was it not prepared right. What a gem! We haven't been here for a while and once we sat down, fond memories came flooding back. Prices are reasonable, portions are more than ample. My wife and I were with another couple. We ordered two stuffed shrimp dinners, the knockwurst special and the skirt steak special. Each meals delicious, properly prepared and came out within a reasonable waiting time. We have been hearing the ads on the radio for a while. The commercial is CORRECT. the food is Amazing!! My husband and I went there for dinner on Monday night. We had the "special" sirloin steak, and Chicken Karin. The steak was cooked to perfection and extremely tender. The chicken was stuffed with mushrooms, covered with Mozz. cheese. Delish!! The prices are very reasonable, portions more than adequate. Didn't really get to dessert, because we were full. We WILL be going there again for sure, even though it's a distance from our home. Only down note is that the tables are sticky, but not from lack of cleanliness. I think it"s the finish... Still 5 Stars for the Food!! read more

How have I never reviewed this place? I've been coming here since I was a kid! The Brick has a neighborhood feel and the food is always solid. You can order from the menu or grab any of the nightly specials and can't go wrong; really; everything is good in his quiet American Classic restaurant. I love the Sliced steak sandwich. It's marinated New York strip sliced thin and covered in rich brown gravy with mushrooms and served on a single piece of white toast. The toast soaks up the gravy and becomes rich and buttery addition to the dish. Grab some steak fries or mashed/baked with a side vegetables and a soup or salad at a price that hasn't changed since the 1990s. The bar has a great atmosphere and is always a great place to catch up with friends. The bar food is also amazing. Burgers are juicy and served on English muffins and the tidbits set the standard for which I compare all other tidbits to. If you want a hot bowl of traditional onion soup, this is the place. I have eaten here probably 50 times over the past 20 years, but not in the past 5 years, and was never disappointed until tonight. We waited 10 minutes for a table, ok.....and then waited 25 minutes for a waitress or busboy with bread and water. Waited another 25 minutes for our order to be taken, and then 35 minutes for the food! And it sucked! No flavor or spices, glad they had salt and pepper shakers! Although we sat 5 tables from the door, every time anyone opened it, we froze our asses off! The service was horrible and unprofessional, seemed she was very bothered to work the tables. I felt I should have given her a dime for a tip, but didn't. It was almost funny how we took bets on the length of time it would take for them to ask if we wanted another drink....I won with 19 minutes! I finally asked if they were under new ownership, as I didn't see Hank around. We waited another 15 minutes for the check, only getting it by walking to the waitress station! In leaving, we met a couple we knew at the bar, and asked what went wrong here....and we were told, the food just sucks and the owner is fed up. What a shame! Will never come back to eat here! Pricing was way above the quality of food and service we received, and two of us had the damn special! The place has gone to the dogs! read more
