We have a had a mailbox here since moving back to SF about 7 years ago. The folks at Mailboxes are very helpful and make sure that we always get what we need. They are very helpful with shipping, and have helped guys creatively problem solve when we have had complex shipping issues. We are especially grateful for them receiving our packages. As we received more deliveries during the Covid year, we were grateful to have a place where our deliveries would arrive safe and we wouldn't have to wonder where they were left. San Francisco still has some great, local family owned and operated businesses, and this is one of them. read more

Love this mom-and-pop (well more like mom-pop-and-son) shipping/mailing company and one stop shop for all mailing needs. Atem and Arjun are incredibly kind and helpful, and it's amazing having this type of company in the neighborhood in walking distance of Fort Mason, Safeway, and Marina Green. No need to drive to a UPS or FedEx and deal with those big couriers. Come here instead. I also get all my shipping supplies here, much more reasonably priced and of course would rather support a local company. I think they have been here for several years and hopefully more to come. This place isn't reliable to scan your packages. I dropped off packages that already had labels and I asked for a receipt because the packages had to be marked for that day for a deadline. The guy said they can't give receipts (although every other place does), so I asked if he could make sure to scan the packages that day even though they wouldn't be picked up until the next day. It's standard for these places to scan packages as soon as they receive them. Well this place doesn't. The packages weren't marked/scanned until they were picked up 24 hours later. The guy had been staring off into space when I came in and clearly wasn't busy. If they can't do the most basic service that's standard to all other UPS/FedEx/Mailbox locations then I can't imagine how reliable for any other service. read more

It has been great for me. I have a mailbox and the service has always been extremely cordial, responsive and friendly. One time I wasn't sure what time they were closing and literally run there. Adam one of the owners said that next time, I should just give them a call in the event I'm running late and they would wait for me... It turned out I was 30 minutes early before closing... but still it was nice to know that they would wait for a customer that must get their mail that day and not make you wait until the day after. read more

I was surprised by the positive reviews of this place. I called them to find out if they offered mail forwarding services. The woman I spoke to, Binder, was very reluctant to discuss their service in detail over the phone and insisted I come in. I explained that since I have little kids it's hard to drive across town to find out if they can help me in the first place. She said that she was uncomfortable discussing the details of her business over the phone. I said I didn't think that was a very customer-centered approach. She said "if you want to have an attitude, that's fine" and hung up. I should add that I called a couple of other companies offering similar services, and all of them were very helpful. read more

Zhai is going to tell you a story, a story about Mailboxes and Company. This story begins with Zhai needing textbooks for the school semester. Zhai needs six textbooks, which would cost him about $100 each at the school bookstore. Zhai refuses on principle to pay this amount, and could not afford it anyway. So Zhai searches for more reasonable options, and finds used versions of the previous editions of the books on Amazon.com at around $10-20 each. However, there is a Difficulty. Zhai lives in one of those places where it is not safe to leave packages lying around. Zhai could rent a mailbox, but Zhai does not want to arrange some monthly contract just for a one-time round of shipments. While browsing mail services on handy Yelp.com, Zhai discovers a place called Mailboxes and Company, which apparently allows people in Zhai's position to receive packages without renting a mailbox, at a nominal fee of $3 per package. Visit #1 by Zhai is to the location that used to be at 792 Bay Street. Zhai is informed by a nice woman that this location is closing in a few days, BUT, there is another location over at N. Point Street that can be used for this purpose. Zhai is told to go there, seek out a man named Adam, and show his government issued identification and all will be well. Pleased, Zhai makes the short and pleasant walk from Bay to N. Point and does so. Zhai meets Adam, who tells Zhai that he does not even need a show of photo identification at this time, just remember to bring it along when picking up packages. The fee turns out to be a significantly less nominal $5 per package, but this is still far more economical than purchasing new books, so Zhai is at this point satisfied. Zhai goes home and orders the books that he needs. Visit #2 by Zhai occurs the following week. This time, Zhai meets a very attractive younger girl, who has two packages waiting for him. Zhai flashes his ID, pays his fee, and has not only two of his expected items but a lovely smile from a pretty girl. Zhai feels quite pleased with Mailboxes and Co. Visit #3 by Zhai occurs several days later. Zhai again encounters Adam, gives his name, and learns there are no packages waiting for him. This may seem too routine to mention, but it is important for later. Visit #4 by Zhai occurs the following week, again meeting Adam. Zhai gives his name, and Adam pauses and eyes him with an unfriendly look, and then says "Ohhhh, so that's YOU." Adam has apparently received and returned two of Zhai's books because he "didn't know who he was" and "there was no phone number on the label". Zhai tries to explain that, when ordering from merchants online such as Amazon, there is no mechanism by which you can request that your phone number be placed on the shipping label and therefore this was an unrealistic expectation on Adam's part. Zhai makes the further point that he has been here three times in the space of two weeks, and has actually successfully picked up two packages just a few days prior. Adam responds testily "Well, that wasn't me. That was someone else who works here. I wouldn't do that." In spite of all this huffing and puffing, a sort of reconcilliation is made - Zhai will have his items sent again, and now that Adam knows his name he will receive them without requiring a phone number be present because he "recognizes you now". Inexplicably, Adam actually has one of the books on his shelves, so Zhai leaves with three of his five books secured. Zhai is at this point a bit perplexed and frustrated, but he shrugs his shoulders and rolls with it. Perhaps Drug Dealers and other Nefarious Types have tried to take advantage of good shopkeeper Adam in the past, and this is his reason for being so draconian about the contents of shipping labels. Zhai figures he may have been typecast as a Street Punk or somesuch because this is the Marina and Zhai does not look or dress anything like a yuppie. Zhai is a bit insulted by this, generally speaking, but has also become used to it. So Zhai leaves in generally good spirits and makes arrangements with the booksellers to ship again. Visit #5 by Zhai is about two weeks later (the books are being sent by Media Mail, which is quite slow). Zhai encounters Adam again, who says he has nothing for him. Just after Visit #5, later that same day, Zhai gets two emails from the booksellers whom he is expecting the books from. It seems they have both been returned to sender, yet again. Zhai wonders why Adam both broke the covenant that they had made previously, and did not volunteer the information that he had returned the books yet again during Zhai's visit earlier in the day. Zhai is at this point on his way to investigate, and will report the results of his findings, but in the interim highly suggests you do not use the unreliable and flaky services of Mailboxes and Co. And that is the story so far. read more

The employees here are SO friendly. It's never very busy, I'm usually out in less than 10 minutes, and they bend over backwards to help you out with shipping, printing, or picking up packages. I go out of my way to go here versus other shipping stores. read more

Update to my previous review dated Dec 29, 2011: This really seals the deal: I will NOT be coming back here. After getting evasive responses about cost vs time-to-delivery for a package sent 12/29, and paying a really large fee for one week's delivery time, the package arrived TWO FULL WEEKS after dispatch. So it looks like I got quoted for a faster speed than the package was shipped -- this was well after the Xmas crush was over. Gee, you think the guy maybe pocketed the difference in price and sent the package by slow boat? That's what I'm thinking. Never ever going here again. read more

Granted, I was desperate after struggling with packaging big items for shipping, in the rain, in the pickup truck, to FedEx. I'm stupid. But, on a much brighter note, I found Adam at Mail Boxes & Co.. He was thorough, retaped all my stuff for me, said he'd personally track my shipment daily till it reached its' destination and gave me tips the poor guys at the squalid Emeryville FedEx Kinko's didn't know a thing about. I am only rating this 1 star because I can't give them zero. I like to support small businesses so I gave them a second try despite my first attempt when they sent my critical package the wrong way, not arriving in time and costing much higher fees than other places would charge to get it there in time. I gave them a second chance since they acknowledged their mistake and refunded me the difference in cost. That being said, it didn't fix my issue of my package not arriving when they said it would. So, second time around, my package still did not arrive when they told me it would. When I called to research what happened, I have never been treated so rudely and with so much disrespect in my entire life by the owner of this place, telling me that I am a liar and what I was told couldn't possibly be true. He refused to listen to me, continually cutting me off and not letting me give him the facts. He wasn't the one that assisted me that day so there is no way he would know what was communicated to me. I am ok with paying up for great service, but this place is not where you are going to get it. I will never use this place again. read more

Because of my business I have used a lot of mailbox and shipping stores over the years here in SF, but in my opinion no one compares to Adam and his very professional courteous and thorough people. First of all they are extremely professional. They know every customer by name. They go out of their way to make sure that you and your package are very well taken care of and that everything goes smoothly. At other places I always feel that I am an nuisance to them, and many times have been scared to leave my package with them (especially at the UPS Stores). Here, I feel welcome and...as cheesy as this sounds, I feel like I have a business partner because these guys take great pride in making sure that my shipments get out fast and safely...and my shipments are critical to my business. Bottom line, is I have reached a point that I will literally drive across town to come to Adam here at Mailboxes and Company rather than go anywhere else. read more
