BEWARE! Predatory Billing Practices…read more I want to start by saying that my complaint is NOT about the dentists or their abilities. The dentists and dental assistants are fantastic. My complaint is entirely with this office's billing practices. I have UHC HMO insurance. This provider was the only one in the area that took our insurance so we did not have other options. I know this insurance isn't the best, and this provider appears to take advantage of that. With an HMO, the provider is under contract to charge only the contracted amount for covered services. As the patient, I should not be charged more than the amount my insurance allows. I went in for a root canal and crown, and the price I was quoted was almost $900 more than the contracted amount I should have been charged. When I questioned the cost, the front desk told me, "UHC is awful and they have outdated copay amounts in their system for services most dental offices no longer offer" I then asked if there was a less expensive crown option, and I was told, "No, this is the only type of crown dental offices do now. That's what I mean. They're outdated." As a patient I have no way to know what services they provide or dont and can only take the staffs word for it. Based on those statements, I proceeded with treatment under the impression that it was my only option and signed the treatment plan. I paid a $700 down payment and enrolled in automatic monthly payments. I pushed back through my employer and contacted UHC. UHC told me that what the provider did is called balance billing and that it is not allowed, so they opened a formal complaint. During the investigation, every one of my monthly payments was made. There was one that hit right when I had a fraud charge so I logged in and made a manual payment in their system. Despite that, I was called almost daily by the billing department and threatened with collections every single month even after that one hiccup. outside of that one month, all recurring charges went through. I called the office and was told to send an email. I sent my original email plus three follow up emails and never received a response. Later, I was told I should have called instead. When I explained that I had called and was specifically instructed to email, I was told they were too busy to respond and that I should have called again after emailing (which they never advised me to do prior). It was incredibly unprofessional. I STILL have not received a response, and that was over two months ago and this is the SECOND time I was told someone from Regional would call me and never did. I question if their regional even exists. After months of back and forth, the UHC representative handling my case, who was very thorough and put a lot of effort into helping me, told me the provider claimed they absolutely do offer other crown options and that I "voluntarily" chose the more expensive one despite being provided other options. That is the complete opposite of what I was told before treatment. Because it became my word against the front desk staff's, UHC said there was nothing more they could do. As you can imagine I am furious. The following day, my husband took our kids in and was told a filling would cost $150. Knowing what had happened with my treatment, he questioned the charge. The same front desk employee told him it was not an upgraded service and was simply the only type of filling they offer. This was the EXACT SAME explanation I was given regarding the crowns so we did NOT proceed with treatment. Luckily we have left the state and live somewhere where more providers take our insurance so we are no longer forced to go here. What was even sadder was seeing them set up a similar payment plan for an elderly woman because her "HMO didn't cover much." I know I am not the only person they are doing this to. They will surely respond to this asking me to call their office which I obviously wont do. I want no other communications with this office unless its in writing with regional.

They have dropped some coverage with certain insurance companies, but luckily ours wasn't one of them. They have also had a lot of dental hygienist turnover the last couple of years, but they seem to have a full staff again currently. That's been tough for us because we had been spoiled with having the same hygienist for years and got to know them, which added extra comfort to an otherwise stressful experience. I've never enjoyed going to the dentist, but seeing a familiar face had helped ease my anxiety. We love the relaxing spa vibes in this office. It feels clean and comfortable, but not overly clinical like some dentist offices. They offer beverages in the waiting room, which also has a couch and fireplace, making for a cozy environment. We also appreciate that they can make a crown while you wait and watch a Netflix movie. It's nice not have to wait a week for a third party to make the crown and leave the dentist office with a temporary. The in-house crowns we're not something we've experienced before, so that's a huge plus! Overall this is an exceptional dentist office. They have a nice relaxing environment and have the capabilities of performing most dental services in-house. We would highly recommend.

He charted out a plan for the dental work, and we were good to go. When I went back to get started I found out that Dr. Hawthorne had left to start his own practice. The bigwig of this dental group would be doing the reconstruction. I was hesitant for one main reason; he made negative remarks regarding another dentist in the group. I was stunned and uncomfortable. But I decided that I had come this far, and I just wanted the procedure completed. Using Dr. Hawthorne's original plan, the end result was near perfect. But there were problems I had to keep coming back for, and I felt unheard. My last visit consisted of the big wig verbally abusing me. I mentioned that a crown in front stuck out from the other teeth. He then used me as a verbal punching bag. It was horrible. Medical PTSD is real. So, I looked up Dr. Hawthorne and found him in Vancouver. When I walked in I was immediately aware of how comfy the waiting room was. It had a couch with big fluffy pillows, and comfy chairs, a bookshelf with signs like 'be kind' etc. No sterile medical vibe here. (I almost fell asleep on the couch). Like night and day. Dr. Hawthorne puts you at ease. He truly cares about people, and is very good at what he does. He will give you the truth even if it's not what you want to hear. I appreciate that very much. He will be performing the restoration of my bottom teeth here soon. Oh, and the staff are amazing as well! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hawthorne, and would refer any of my family and friends to his practice.

Dr. Aldridge performed the surgery without giving her the option to seek care with a specialist. It went completely sideways and the staff did nothing to help until it was too late. My daughter had a major infection and had to have additional procedures under general anesthesia with a specialist. The staff lacked experience and empathy. Seek a specialist whenever doing major dental surgery. Needless to say we are looking for a new dentist.

I put in my headphones and listened to my music and went off into my own world and they did their thing! Dr. Bardeloza Did my root canal and this was the best root canal experience I've had (and I've had a lot of root canals from various dentists). I'm leaving this review the day after and I don't feel any discomfort!! I can't even tell I had any work done!!! Christie did my temp crowns for me on my front top teeth (I have been so conscious of those teeth ) and she did BEAUTIFUL work (she tells me the permanent crowns are gonna look even better!!!) my father was a longtime patient of the previous owner and 25 years ago, My son went in after breaking his top front tooth. They were able to build his front tooth back up and he still has it to this day (not once has it broken off!). Going in as a first time patient to new ownership gave me nerves, but they settled them immediately (it's such a nice and comfortable environment with the staff, everyone is really kind). I am 50 years old and for the first time in my life, I am excited to start seeing a dentist to fix everything needing to be fixed and actually doing preventive care! I know this is a really long review, but this place is worth it and I'm hoping it helps someone who is really-really nervous about going to the dentist (like I was).

When my insurance…read morechanged I decided to leave Distinctive Dental try out a different dental practice closer to my house which was a big mistake. The other dentist (NOT distinctive) did a filling that they not only trapped blood behind, but also left a massive amount of excess composite that went passed where the tooth meets the gum and essentially made a spear slicing into the inside of my cheek. I could fit a fingernail between the excess material and the gum above my tooth. I was in a ton of pain from the resulting ulcer on my cheek and the headache from dental pain. I called distinctive and was able to get an appointment very quickly. While Dr. Kim and the assistant remained incredibly professional, they seemed surprised and were very empathetic that I was left with a filling in the condition I was. They ensured I was fully educated on my options and involved me in the creation of the treatment plan. At the first appointment they removed the excess material to ease my pain and allow the soft tissues to heal. When I went back for the repair, we had initially thought a crown was necessary, but Dr. Kim was able to successfully repair with a new filling. They could've said the significantly more expensive crown was still necessary and I wouldn't have known better, but they chose better care over making money. The procedure itself was also miles better than my experience with the other dentist--the other office had forcefully pulled my cheek away as far as possible in an attempt to access the affected back molar, while Dr. Kim gave me instructions on how to hold my jaw so he could see. He also checked in frequently to ensure I was doing okay. He also took multiple photos throughout the process so I could actually see what he was talking about, and the before and after difference was night and day. TLDR: incredibly kind and compassionate staff that truly puts patient care over profit and ensure the patient is fully informed and involved in their treatment plan. I highly recommend!
