I write this review with a broken heart. I have been a patron of Main Street Cafe for about 8 years. The food and service have always been good and filling. However, I was in there recently and order a double paddle smash burger and a cup of tea. This came to $30, tax included. The smash burger was listed at $25. That was high so I expected large paddies, and a lot of fries. I got the opposite. The two paddies were less than 3 ounces each; the fries were just over a hand full; the bun small and at the point of stale; the food was not hot when it came. I left hungrey. I could have gotten a better burger for far less money a McDonald's. Serious! I am sorry Main Street Cafe. We are breaking up. read more

First thing: $19 for a Reuben and 1/4 of a pickle? And charging $1 extra for french fries? Shame on me for staying. Even great Reubens shouldn't cost that much, and this was far from that. It was soggy from a ridiculous overabundance of Thousand Island dressing, making it very messy to eat. In contrast the cheese was almost nonexistent and the corned beef portion was also on the small side. Sauerkraut? Present, but overwhelmed by the flood of dressing. French fries? First batch was not hot; not much over room temperature. I told the waitperson. He acted surprised but brought a new batch. The new ones were hot - right out of the frier. But terrible; like the worst fries imaginable. Crispy on the outside but dry and starchy on the inside and somehow seemed "hollow". My take is they were fried and refried too many times. Were they house-made or from a bag? Irrelevant; they were just awful. Serving the water in ancient plastic glasses, scuffed from years of use, served to further confirm an impression of mediocrity. At least two of the staff had alarming coughs, including my waitperson. In this time of heightened awareness due to Covid it was disconcerting to say the least. In my opinion they should not have been allowed to work but couldn't they at least hide them in the back? Fortunately, 10 days later I'm happy to report I dodged a bullet, health-wise. Other than that I have no issue with the quality of the service. Too bad Concord is such a dining wasteland that I might consider going back, its 2 star rating notwithstanding. There's a large menu with many lunch items, pastries, coffee, and more. Probably do takeout next time though. read more

Are lunch here today with my family and we all had excellent meals. The Watermelon salad was so good and I added the cape cod chicken salad to it. My mom and I split this and they brought us separate bowls of it. So nice of them! My husband had the lobster roll and it was packed full of lobster and was delicious. Not tons of Mayo so you could taste the lobster. The waitress was nice to do half regular fries and half sweet potato fries. I tried a few sweet potato fries and they were good. My dad had the mussels and it was a generous portion with lots of garlic bread to soak up the broth/sauce. The clam chowder was just okay, but the cornbread that came with it was delicious! read more

We have a kiddo who has both celiac (medically necessary gluten-free) and an egg allergy, so finding places to eat out can be a challenge. Main Streets Cafe had GREAT service to accommodate our food allergies, as well as the rest of our 8 person group. Kudos to Tami our server and the manager Jenifer who personally walked our kiddo's order through the line to insure no gluten cross-contamination. And.. it was delicious for everyone! Hearty portions - we all left stuffed. We all liked the vibe and style, too. For those interested in the GF experience: It's not a dedicated GF restaurant, but they do have a separated area of the kitchen where any baking is done and have a dedicated GF fryer. Really great service, with patience plus knowledge about allergens, ingredients (especially important when there's an egg allergy along with Celiac, like with us) and what substitutions can be made. That fish stew was delish! This is a cute restaurant in the small town plaza in Concord. The menu had a variety of items so we decided to dine here on Saturday night. The place was busy but we only waited 15min. It was really cozy inside and I enjoyed their decor. We were starving so we ordered Rhode island style calamari to start and then I decided on their fish and chips and my bf got their fish stew. The calamari was nice and crunchy and full of flavor. We quickly inhaled it! My fish and tots were also very good. The fish was nice and flaky and the portion of tots was generous. The star of the night was that delicious fish stew! It really stole the show! The broth was so flavorful and mouthwatering delicious! I kept stealing my bfs fish stew all night because it was so good! Poor service. I asked for a table for two where we could sit side by side because my hearing isnt great in one ear and often need to transcribe. The host that seated us insisted we couldnt use two tables or place a table horizontally while three other couples wer sitting this way. This has been a family favorite for years and we always go for celebrations. Tonight my family went to celebrate my birthday and I have never been so disappointed in the food and service. Though our server was very nice she forgot to tell the kitchen about one of my family members allergies and had to wait for them to remake her whole meal. I ordered the lobster roll and though I didn't have super high hopes I'm unsure if the fridges were struggling due to the excessive heat or another factor but it was not fresh. The lobster itself tasted like it had gone bad and smelled very offputting as well as the coleslaw. A very sad letdown. I have been there about half a dozen times now. Food is pretty good overall. Not very comfortable. Service is really inconsistent. I get a surly vibe from the staff which is really off putting. It's like they have been trained to expect attitude from their customers. Their prices have risen quite a lot over the years. Horrible. They forgot my burger on my burger. I ordered the pulled pork burger and it came with only pulled pork (and a tiny bit at that) and no burger. The menu didn't mention cole slaw and it came with that too, which is disgusting. My partner ordered the veggie flatbread which was literally sopping wet. Main Streets Market should definitely be on your must do list when visiting historic Concord, MA. The ambience is warm and very welcoming! I have never been disappointed by the service, excellent food, and welcome feeling that I experience whether it be for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I sit home now on this cold New England evening with a very warm feeling in my soul. I just enjoyed another fine dinner at Main Street Market where I was fortunate enough to have been greeted and served a delicious dinner by the most lovely Tais B. Main Street Market and Cafe. I've been visiting this Concord staple for more than a decade. It's the first place I ever took my now 10 year old daughter when she was a baby. I would simply describe this Restaraunt in the past as, above average food, great atmosphere, nice staff, and very slow service. Today I went back to have a late brunch/lunch before picking my daughter up from a play date. I only chose this place because it was a time of day where the service should be available and not slow. The first thing I was greeted with was a sign on the door saying the new pandemic is short staffing. So I'm thinking, you guys were slow before the COVID's....what's it going to be like now. Next, the town of Concord has a mask Mandate. I should have known because this town is very liberal. But I didn't plan appropriately and didn't have a mask with me. (My town of Burlington doesn't have a mask mandate). I opened the front door and noticed a couple people standing around without mask, and the bar tender with the mask below her mouth. so I was like, cool, they're not Covid crazy. So I decide to walk 15 feet to the bar and sit down maskless. Before anybody welcomes me or ask what I'd like I was told that I needed to mask up when I depart and there is clearly a sign on the door. Very much talking down to me. So now I don't even feel welcome after being talked down to. However, I decide to power thru this negative experience. I get a menu and to my surprise it has changed a lot since my last visit. It's very diverse with lots of offerings and all day breakfast to boot. As I'm looking at the menu the lady next to me eating breakfast at the bar ask for some additional butter. The bartender says, "they buttered your toast AND I've already brought you two packets of butter." Yikes!!! This is really happening I chose their amazing New England chowder for an appetizer and a breakfast sandwich. What I noticed are DRASTICALLY high prices. A side of French fries is $8!! No sandwiches will be below $10. My Sam Adam's beer was $7....I guess that's about in par. The chowder took a while to come out, but finally it came, and the presentation is much different than before. It used to come in a coffee mug with a slice of delicious homemade cornbread. Now it came in a paper cup with a small bag of crackers. Chowder was still good, but nowhere near worth $9 for the small without cornbread. I got a sausage breakfast sandwich that was pretty good. $6.50 seems a little high, but it was tasty. As I'm paying the check another gentleman walks in with a buddy and walks to their table without a mask. Nobody says a word to him. Overall I think the following still holds true. Above average food, a little high on price, a little slow. Lastly, please understand we are not all from your town and when you talk down to customers, you probably won't see them again. The ambiance and charm are definitely there but I was pretty disappointed with my order - our lunch was two was $50 (2 sandwiches, sides and one drink) and it was really not very good. This place seems to attract the Main Street tourist crowd and has prices that compare to your standard tourist trap. Everyone was really friendly but when I ordered, the waitress asked if I wanted sides with my sandwiches like they were included and didn't mention there was an additional cost. Not the end of the world if the food was amazing but my turkey and brie sandwich was pretty much just turkey and fig jam and tasted so syrupy. The vibes were really cute and the food was really good. However... The restaurant isn't very big, they had 3 servers and still seemed to take quite a while to serve. To their credit, there is a sign on the door that said they had a staffing shortage, so I did feel like I had a warning. I paid $16 dollars for a avocado BLT which I was hoping to be wildly delicious considering the price. It didn't impress. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't *bad*, but I would say it was probably worth about $12...maybe less. We make sure to dine here whenever we visit Concord because we always have good experiences, up until the last time. The first jarring thing was the sign on the door asking patrons to be kind to the staff. Now, we all know the pandemic hit the restaurant industry very hard, but a sign like that is unprofessional and puts the blame for bad service on the customer's shoulders. Our first day back we went for dinner and everything was great. Food was really good as was the service. Our server even gave us a sample of pickled radishes locally grown from his farm in small paper cups. I tried a bit. The second time was on a Saturday morning the day we left. That was a mistake. It was extremely busy and although we were brought to our tables fairly quickly, it took over 30 minutes to get our food. By then our drinks had been long consumed and our server wasn't around to get refills. It seemed like she was covering quite a large area. Our food was great, no complaints, but we never saw our server. I managed to ask for a glass of water as she passed by us to another table and again, for the check. Finally, another server brought the portable CC machine and cashed us out after getting the check from our frazzled server. All I can say is maybe avoid the place during their busiest times. No matter how short staffed they appear to be, I can't give them full marks on professionalism or customer service. I recommend Helen's for breakfast. They were excellent in both food and service with a smile. read more

Deceptive pricing practices. The quality of the food and service were both fine - nothing particularly remarkable, but I was a bit annoyed when the bill came. The menu posted outside has the price of the breakfast sandwich as $5. I ordered and the server asked my preference for bagel vs English muffin without mentioning any upcharge. When the bill came, I found the price of the sandwich had increased and apparently there was an upcharge for getting it on a bagel. The menu could have been update and reflected both of these. Obviously $2 isn't a massive deal, and certainly won't make or break my monthly budget, but it was enough to leave me feeling a bit annoyed. read more

If there is an option to give zero star I would. I've always been a big supporter of small businesses but I will never come back to this place. Not only the food and drinks are mediocre and overpriced (3 coffees and a hot cider and a pastry for $54), the service was horrible even after I tipped 20%. We visited the place with a large party - 5 people with kids, as I was making my order, they did not mention that we can't sit down with our drinks even though there were at least a few groups sitting on the tables. We decided to wait by the sitting area as it's less crowded. The manager came over and very rudely told us that we need to 'get out of here as they are closed' even though there were still 2 other group sitting at their tables. They took 25 mins to get our 4 drinks ready and can't wait to throw us out. The least they can do is to allow us to sit and wait for our drinks as it took so long. I've had take out three times from here now and won't be back. The food is fine, but each time I've had to wait 15-20 minutes past the promised time. As someone who works from home, I often only have an hour to pick up food and eat it between calls. Today I placed an order at 10 for 11:30 pickup (eg plenty of time to have it ready) but still had to wait nearly 20 minutes for a small order of hash and French Toast. I've been coming to Main Street for over 8 years and it's gone nothing but downhill. Prices have skyrocketed while the quality has gone down. Ordered 3 entrees and it rang up to almost $70. Chicken tenders tasted like it came from the frozen section of the grocery store, truffle Parmesan fries had no truffle, eggs Benedict came with about 5 tater tots and one of the eggs was over cooked, and the harvest grain bowl portion was much too small to be priced at $25. Having to wait 40 minutes for my lackluster food in a nearly empty restaurant, I am very disappointed and I likely won't be going back again. read more

Food, Service, and Ambience are all wonderful. If you're a tourist, or a local, I advise you go to Main St. Market for a meal. Plus, their desserts are out of this world! Especially their vanilla cupcakes!! All patrons are handled equally with love and care. They are tentative to the needs of every guest. The waitstaff are friendly, happy, and overjoyed at work. Not to mention, the management is FANTASTIC!! #throughtheroof!! I love the history of the Main St. Market Cafe, it's family owned and has been for over 100 years! The interior design provide a real New England feel. I love the red brick, the colored signs which hang down from every wall, the townie-esq bar. When I arrived it didn't seem all that busy meaning no body waiting in line. However every empty table had dirty dishes on them so I took a seat (there is a sign that says seat yourself). Before my table was cleaned another table was cleaned even though the waitress acknowledged me. It took about 5 minutes before someone came to my table and while cleaning it, he said that it would take 45 minutes to an hour to get my meal from the kitchen because they were that busy! I say that it's because you don't have the right staff in place! Breakfast takes 6-8 minutes to cook and get to the table! Unless you have lots of extra time don't go here!
