Great service and quick turnaround - they altered 3 pairs of pants to make the waist smaller and shorten the length in less than a week. They look and fit great. $6 for alteration is not too shabby! Like the majority, I took a star out because parking is tough, especially since its just along the very busy intersection on story and s. white. Then you still have to navigate into the tight parking and worry if someone is going to block your way. That's what happens when you make your home into your business location! read more

If it is possible, I would like to give no star at all to them. I am not sure if its because I didn't get served by the woman mentioned by Manuel but I will not go back, that is for sure. Here is why. 1. you just do not know where to park. They are located just off a very busy street in a pretty bad neighborhood. I cannot imagine if more than 3 customers show up at one time at the store to pick up their items. 2. the guy who served me is rude, and yet that has nothing to do with the language problem To my understanding, he speaks English pretty well. 3. 'So what happened?', you may ask. When I got there, the guy and I made eye contact. There is no way that he didn't know that someone just came in. So, after I came in physically, nothing had happened. he was still standing in the corner. No 'Hi', No 'I will be right with you', No, 'please wait'. I mean, we made eye contact and he knew that I was there and I was the only one there and the door bell rang when I came in. 4. So, what's next? I waited for a short while because I thought he was busy with something. I was trying to be patient and polite and then I said ' Hello, can you help?'. Then, he came out and pointed to that phone-booth like fitting room and asked me to put the pants on. I followed his instructions. Not only did I put the pants on, I also folded the pants for him so that he would have an understanding as to how much I want to cut. When I came out, he asked me to stand in front of the mirror but faced the other way [the street]. I mean how hard is that? I followed and that old brat was not happy, kept raising his voice and pointed to the street - that is where I was facing. Then, he lost his patience and just moved me to the point where he felt right. I was shocked because that old brat should not have moved me by touching my butt but just told me what to do. I turned around and gave me a look and that pervert did not seem to care. Then, he messed up with the folded parts and kept asking me if I wanted it shorter or longer. I folded my pants again for him again and then he folded them up. I mean, hello, I wasn't looking for a capri and I just needed it to be a little shorter, and I told you 1.5 inches will do. After I raised my voice and told him where I wanted them to be, he pinned it and left, didn't tell me what do next and looked at me. I was so on fire then. What did I do? For sure, I got changed and left. I don't care how good you are and I seriously doubt your skill. After some commotion, I pulled myself out of anger and felt happy because I realized that I had saved my pants. read more

Came in to get my suit altered and what do you know Mai (the owner) was there give me a mad dog look. I wanted my suit a little slimmer but she keeps on insisting. She put pins all over my suit and made me take it out. Worst customer service ever! Doesn't listen to what the customer is asking. read more

I have been going to Mai's Alterations for the past two years for all of my alteration needs and have found exceptional turn-around time and quality work. I always go here to get my jeans and pants hemmed ($5 for next day service, $7 for same day service,) and have always been satisfied. One time I felt the hem was too high, so I just told the seamstress and they fixed it no charge. A couple months ago I brought in an evening gown to be altered, and needed it back by the next day - they went above and beyond and had it available for me that same evening. For same day service, they only charged me $25. I highly recommend this small family business. read more

I love this place, I have been going to Mai's for years. They have always done my alterations perfect to how I want it. I did try other alteration places before for my suits and they messed my suits up, I went back to Mai's and they fixed them just right. Everyone that has attended to my alterations there are all very nice. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in need of tailoring. The place looks dusty and unclean. I don't think they ever vacuum or dust. It also smells musty like it may have water leaks from the roof. She speaks english very well and understands it too. She has never spoken to me in vietnamese but the man does not seem to speak english very well. I started going to Mai's back in 2002. I was ok with her hemming jobs (sleeves, pants, jeans) until one day I discovered that they don't measure or cut correctly and I think it is the man that had hemmed my pants. One pant leg was shorter than the other. I also brought a dress in to be altered in the shoulders and sides one shoulder was not done correctly and kept falling off my shoulder at the wedding I attended. When I went back to show her workmanship she just shrugged her shoulder and didn't try and correct it. I stopped going there to get my things done after she felt she didn't need to correct her mistake. These people are not who they say there are. They are not tailors or seamtress. I use to sew ,so I know, plus I used to take my stuff to a person that was a fashion designer and the only reason I am not still using him is because he sold his business Thuy's Tailoring in Sunnyvale and moved to L.A. They have a sweet operation going. Very inexpensive hemming business all you need is a machine and measuring tape. If you know a little bit about sewing you could do it. I decided to try them again, but this time I came with my measuring tape and I told her I didn't need to try them on I wanted a 30" inseam and I wanted the pants hemmed the same way they already were because they looked good with the size hem it had on it. What Mai does is try to do a standard hem on everything that does not always make the garment look it's best. Also I had a cuff which I wanted to keep on the pants. They don't like doing them and they don't like using similiar threading, but I am a fashionista and my clothes have to look and fit a certain way. I pay good money for my clothes and I want them to keep looking good after the alteration or even better. I have never seen her make anything look better. Well, she didn't want to do my pants the way I wanted them so I told her if she had a problem in doing them to my specifications then I could take them elsewhere. She threw the pants at me and said yes take them somewhere else they don't do that. I told her not to throw my clothes and also if she was a true seamstress a simple 1.5" hem and a 2" cuff should be no problem and then I walked out. She is also not friendly, never a greeting or smile, just barks out orders. If you like mediocre work and don't really care about how your clothes look because believe me hemming is very important in how a garment drapes then continue using this shop or you can try it for the first time at your own risk. If I could give her a zero star I would. I think I found a new place to go that has gotten rave reviews and pricing is a little higher but the expertise and workmanship seems to be there.
