We have been here before, but last time I got so caught up enjoying the food that I forgot to leave a review, so I made sure to snap some pictures and write about it this time. Since the menu is simple and straightforward, service is quick and efficient. Even though it was not overly busy during our weekday dinner, I can see how it might fill up fast on weekends, but their fast turnaround means you never have to wait long. Here is what we ordered: #1 Chicken Pho (with bone and egg noodles): Definitely the winner for depth of flavor. The bone-in chicken makes the broth taste fantastic, rich, and deeply flavorful. #5 Boneless Chicken Noodles (with egg noodles): A great option if you do not want to deal with bones, though the bone-in version is still slightly more flavorful. On a server's enthusiastic recommendation, who told us, "Good choice, it is my favorite too," we added a fried sunny-side-up egg to the soup. It was a fun addition, though optional. Fresh Accompaniments: Both items came with a generous shared plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeños, and limes. Pro tip: throw the basil and bean sprouts in while the soup is piping hot for the best aroma and flavor. Mo Hanh (Green Onion Oil): Both soups also came with a side of Mo Hanh, which is chopped green onion with oil and a pinch of salt. It was amazing to have with the chicken, and I really loved that combination of flavors. Practical Details: Parking: Located in a plaza with ample parking. Being a weekday, we scored a spot right in front. Seating: Plenty of tables inside, though it can get busy during peak hours. Overall, Pho Ga 88 is a fantastic spot for a cozy meal, especially on a chilly day. We will definitely be back!

Pretty much only one choice: free range chicken, which is pretty good, about on par with pho Kim Long (which is Michelin recommended and our long time favorite for pho); soup base pretty much bland, which is the main difference with Kim Long, and literally they don't have onion and other vegetables like typical pho places except bean spouts. Price a bit lower than typical pho places too, chicken a bit less than Kim Long, and dont order their chicken gizzard or whatever soup, like I said, only chicken.

I ended up getting a large and it was plenty filling but the medium seemed reasonable as well. With each bowl, you'll get a platter of bean sprouts and basil leaves to spruce up your meal. Highly recommend dumping those in right when you get the steaming hot bowl! I also ended up getting an ice coffee - the flavor was strong and balanced out as the ice melted. Stopped by this casual pho spot tucked into a small plaza in Union City and had a solid experience from start to finish. I ordered the Round Eye Steak & Beef Ball Pho, fried egg rolls, and a side of tomato rice. The broth was decent--not the most memorable pho broth I've had--but the meat was tender, flavorful, and cooked well. Their house chili sauce definitely deserves a mention; it's legitimately spicy and added a nice kick that elevated the bowl. The fried egg rolls came out piping hot, fresh, and crispy. They were served with a sweet chili sauce rather than the usual lettuce and herbs, which was a little different but still tasty. The tomato rice was another pleasant surprise, with a noticeable garlic flavor that made it stand out from a typical side dish. What really made the visit memorable was the service. Ate here a couple of times and tried different sandwiches (grilled pork and steamed pork) BOTH WERE DELISH! Kids ordered rice plates and soups and seem to like it a lot. They are open late on "SOME" days and other they close super early. They are totally different dishes. There isn't even any broccoli; all there is is noodle and pho beef. Just stick to the Vietnamese food.

It has been 5 hours now of stabbing abdominal pain and nausea within 30 mins of finishing our meals. I'm not gonna drop my 3/5 score to 2, but this made me consider it. I thought that perhaps the 3/5 star average on Yelp for this place might have been superficial, due to the grimy appearance of the place, the barely functional bathroom without soap, etc. (side note here: how are employees all washing their hands if the only bathroom here doesn't have any hand soap and just has a watered down hand sanitizer? That made me uncomfortable.) However, I unfortunately have to agree with 3/5. The food was really not very good! I got the vermicelli with grilled shrimp. The veggies were unwashed, they put a very small amount of the pickled carrots, and the noodles were room temperature not hot. The shrimp were the worst offenders. Literally flavorless, I've never experienced a shrimp devoid of all flavor before. It wasn't even fishy tasting. It just tasted like nothing. The texture of shrimp, but no flavor, not even a grilled flavor despite it being grilled. It was only grilled on one side as well. The only flavor of the whole dish came from the fish sauce. We wanted to order tap water but we were only able to order bottles. We didn't try any of the fun drinks but I thought that looked interesting. Our server was very friendly.
