Pork Tocino Banh Mi is so good!
    Chas S.

Stop into this sweet spot and cross your fingers that they've got the Pork Tocino Banhmi special available. Take in the UC vibes and sit outside on the benches and dig into your sandwich. Enjoy the slightly sweet atchara-style pickles and heavy shake of black pepper. As you eat, you'll be thinking, THIS BANH MI IS SO DANG GOOD! What genius thought to put Filipino ingredients on a Vietnamese sandwich??? Perfect. Looking forward to my next visit.

There's more meat than what it seems. There's just so much fresh vegetables hiding it. Spring Rolls hella good!

Overall 4.5 out of 5 THE GOOD ° Sandwiches are DINOSAUR big! - Packed with meat, vegetables, jalapeno with nice heat - wife and I enjoyed our Grilled Chicken and Pork Banh Mi's ° Shrimp and Chicken Spring Rolls were SO GOOD! - something I've never seen but should be normalized... Green apple inside of it, wow. ° Clean interior and exterior ° Crazy fresh ingredients THE BAD ° True, you can get 2 × Banh Mi's and Spring Rolls for $20 less - Dinosaur dabatably makes it worth it with how big it is and how good the flavor is! THE UGLY ° Not a fan of the hours. I'd love to pick them up for dinner more often but 5pm closing makes that tough.

I ordered via phone and my order was ready within 10 minutes. The staff were super friendly and welcoming upon picking up my order. Their Pork Tocino Banh Mi is immaculate. The mix of sweet & savory flavors made it perfect for me. Loved their Vietnamese coffee as well. Definitely one of my new favorite Banh Mi spots in the East Bay.

Their shaken beef, get that with the Vietnamese coffee and love your self! That toasted bread and their balance of mayo and veggies will delight you! Worth the higher price tag. Only version better are found in San Jose, yes, better than the Oakland stuff, which used to be the top of my local lists. No where to sit, order, wait, and eat in car! The union city branch has local specials

Grilled Chicken Sandwich - mostly bread
    Sophia K.

Came here to grab a quick lunch. Staff is super friendly, but price of a banh mi is not. I paid $34 for 2 sandwiches where as I could get a least 3 sandwiches down the street. I got the Grilled Chicken and The Special. The chicken was tender, but could be more flavorful. There also wasn't that much chicken in the sandwich. There was mostly bread. The Special was okay. There was more meat, but lacked a lot of flavor. I don't like the mayo that they use - it tastes too American and I wanted more a Vietnamese mayo (given that it's a Vietnamese sandwich). My favorite part of the sandwich was the bread as it was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Overall, I expected a lot from this $15 sandwich. It was decent, but I rather go somewhere else for the price.

    Kare-kare banh mi! Sooooooo fabulous!!!

Such a great little shop with all your Bahn mi needs with a Filipino flare! SO good! Had the Kare-kare one and the give you the bagoong too! I wanted rice on top it was so good! The servers were extra courteous and very quick! It's never a long wait! They get you in and out so you can enjoy your food! Wish they had space for tables, but there is the park around the corner! This is our go to Bahn mi spot fasho!

Kare kare with bagoong is chef's kiss!

We used to grab banh min at their SF and Pacifica when we lived up in the city many moons ago. It was one of the best places to get them. So what a pleasant surprise to see them branch out and to the East bay of all places!! Had them bookmarked ever since I knew they opened but the weekday only hours prolonged my eventual visit. Well, finally made it and can we say Kare Kare and Tocino banh mi?? As if I didn't already love them enough and was excited to have them so close, they now have Filipino inspired banh mi?? The Kare Kare was all I imagined it to be and so so good!! And it comes with a side of bagoong bc why would you eat kare kare without it?? The roll is the perfect amount of crunch and chew and all the filling is so complementary. Lifelong fan and will be back regularly! So happy you guys are in the Une!! Thrilled to be so close to Dinosaurs!

    Watermelon smoothie with lychee jelly

So excited to stumble upon this spot for lunch! Ordered the beef banh mi & tocino banh mi with the watermelon lychee drink. The bread was really crunchy on the outside & soft in the inside. There was a generous portion of pickled vegetables which I absolutely loved & the team member who helped me was super friendly. The watermelon smoothie with lychee was okay. It was pretty bland because of the watermelon itself. It's not bad but I probably wouldn't get it again. There are no tables so this is mostly an eat in your car or take out spot. Can't wait to come back & try the kare kare banh mi which was sold out when I came for lunch.

Was curious about this place since I've never tried the one in the city. Located at the bottom of an apartment/condo complex. Very limited parking for that reason. Only street parking or maybe 2 guest spots. There was no line on a weekday at lunch. I ordered the tocino and meatball. It took about 10 minutes for the sandwiches to be ready. Kinda pricy - $16 per sandwich. No seating at all, this is just for takeout. The bread was very very good. It had a good crunch on the outside but was very soft and chewy. The meat quality is good. The tocino was a little sweet for me, but I really enjoyed the meatball. Overall this place does fill a void for banh mi in the area and they're worth checking out.

    Tocino (Special)
    Philip Y.

Friendly staff. I ordered the special Tocinto Sandwich with Filipino twist of Vietnamese Banh Mi. The bread was freshly toasted and pretty of meat. However, it was too saucy and dripped everywhere on the wrapper. BTW, for $17 per sandwich, it was kind of pricy.

My cousin told me about this place, and I'm so glad I finally tried it. I think it used to be open only on weekdays, but now they are open on weekends, which is a huge plus. I ordered the beef kare-kare banh mi and wow, the first bite was incredibly delicious. The beef was so tender and full of flavor. It was a great fusion of Filipino and Vietnamese flavors. They even gave a small cup of bagoong (shrimp paste), which really elevated the sandwich. The flavors were bold but still very well balanced. The bread looked hard at first, but it had the perfect amount of crunch and did not hurt your mouth at all. My boyfriend got the special, and that was also really good. Overall, such a great experience. I am so happy they are open on weekends now and I cannot wait to go back and try the tocino one next.

    Pork Tocino Banh Mi

I felt like a Vietnamese sandwich for lunch, and this place showed up on Yelp to be only 5 minutes from where I was at at the moment! I decided to try it. I ordered the Pork Tocino Banh Mi and the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I was quite impressed with the banh mi. It was so good! The bread was fresh, and lightly toasted on the outside. The sandwich was hearty, tasty, and juicy. I would definitely come back to try the other sandwiches. The iced coffee had a nice, bold flavor! It was good, too!

Solid 4.5 stars! Not the easiest spots to park at, especially during rush hour since it's street parking right on UC Blvd but I went right before noon so I was able to parallel park right infront. Small shop, the guys behind the counter are eager and happy for your business. What would've earned them 5 stars is if they would've made small tak with us, being that they're new and it's small inside, a simple "thanks for coming in, how did you hear about us?" Etc would've gone a long way... but it's fine. They were heads down prepping food. Quite a few signature sandwiches to pick from but I saw a special next to their register saying "ITS BACK! Beef Kare Kare Banh Mi" which is sliced rib eye in a savory peanut sauce with a side of bagoong (shrimp paste). All of the sweet and savory flavors. The banh mi was thick and flavorful, and I don't think I've had one with these kind of flavors before. Not your traditional Vietnamese banh mi's. But let's talk about their Pork and Shrimp fresh spring rolls. Big pieces of shrimp, the grilled lemon grass pork comes through with every bite. I actually prefer the spring roll over the banh mi Yes, the prices might seem a little high, especially for a banh mi and/or spring roll, but these aren't your typical or traditional sandwiches. The quality of ingredients and just to keep a business open these days requires items to be priced the way they are.

But don't think there are multiple locations...yet. Upon receiving my sandwiches, it was wrapped in a paper with their company logo, and from a quick glance it is super similar to the Jersey Mikes logo in terms of color, so it has a real familiar vibe. No hate just an observation. This used to be another restaurant (maybe even several) on the edge of an industrial zone/business park, but also not too far from several shopping strips. There's spacious seating inside, but in the later afternoon when I went, nobody was eating in. But quite a few take-out and third party pick-ups. I even saw a poster showcasing their catering aspect for common work lunches on the company dime. Good for them. Niles Canyon ($14.50/4*) I opted to up this to their combo meal which includes a bag of chips and a soda for another $5. So this was easily a $20 lunch meal without tipping yet. Pricey yes, but not because they are pricier than most, but that is just the going rate for eating a meal outside these days. $15 - $20 per person are common and anything under $15 is now considered cheap eats and getting harder to run into. This sandwich had slightly warmed up deli turkey that when stacked with the swiss cheese slices, kinda softened the cheese. It wasn't ooey gooey but the cheese wasn't firm and cold either. There was another layer of prosciutto as well which wasn't too noticeable but did add another dimension. I chose to go with the full produce choice, as I love the freshness of veggies to go with meat sandwiches. There was also a layer of fresh avo slices which lent a creamy richness to the bites. I tried one of their sliced breads to go for this sandwich, as I tried a sourdough roll for another sandwich that I got to-go for my work lunch the next day. That way I got to sample their bread offerings. Their sliced marbled rye bread is thick sliced, very soft and moist with a good bread chew. They use a good bread supplier for sure. On top of mayo and mustard which is common, they also put their Bomb Sauce which seems like a garlic-y spread of sorts. I can definitely smell it, but the taste isn't overly strong. I'd say super similar to Mr Pickles. Prosciutto Sandwich ($13/4*) This was an all-cold traditional sandwich. I took a couple of bites there to see how it was fresh from the counter, and I ate the rest the next day at work. I gotta say I liked it better the next day as all the flavors melded more together. Even tho the veggies get a bit mushier, I've always liked a well dressed salad sensation in sandwiches, kinda like a Muffeletta sandwich where it is refrigerated overnight, meant to be eaten the next day. Their prosciutto isn't the old school imported version, or at least I've never had one quite like it. I'm assuming a domestic version, even seemed more like cappicola to me as I sensed a tinge of fennel up in there. So pretty satisfied with my first visit. I'll definitely get sandwiches here again for work or day trip lunches. Pretty much on the same level as Togo's or Mr. Pickles, but just more local. With sandwich names as The Quarry Lakes, The Decoto and The Dumbarton, just pulls on my local lovin' heartstrings. Props.

The Dutch crunch was a literal ROCK. On my first bite I actually had to stop and take the sandwich apart just to eat it more comfortably. I thought maybe it was just one, but both sandwiches had the same issue. Dutch crunch is usually a bit firm, but this was on another level.
