I was hesitant to go to a new chain bahn mi place when there are so many excellent options in the area BUT I am so glad I gave dinosaurs a chance. What won me over was the dairy free drink offerings, which were everything I dreamed of and more. We got the coconut thai tea, perfection, a watermelon smoothie with lychee jelly, it tasted like the most perfect in season watermelon frozen and blended with jelly at the top and bottom of the drink, and the iced coffee with coconut condensed milk, also good but a little stronger/darker than I would prefer but doctored up with just an extra splash of oat milk at home it was rich and energizing. The sandwiches were also excellent and I was so grateful for the employees' flexibility in making a custom sandwich for my picky kids. I love being able to add avocado and love that vegan mayo is an option. The sandwiches were perfect, the tofu is fried and mixed with fried starchy bits that were SO good, the veggies are plentiful and have a great freshly prepared taste, and the balance between ingredients and flavors is just right. They also had some specials available that looked great. The shop is tiny but full of warmth. Everyone was so welcoming, eagerly gave recommendations, and made ordering sandwiches a pleasant and refreshing experience. I'm a faithful Ba Le (Oakland) & Saigon (SF) sandwich lover. Special only - extra pate ofc. Dino Sandwich is on that caliber, which is a big statement for me. Came here to grab a quick lunch. Staff is super friendly, but price of a banh mi is not. I paid $34 for 2 sandwiches where as I could get a least 3 sandwiches down the street. I got the Grilled Chicken and The Special. The chicken was tender, but could be more flavorful. There also wasn't that much chicken in the sandwich. There was mostly bread. The Special was okay. There was more meat, but lacked a lot of flavor. I don't like the mayo that they use - it tastes too American and I wanted more a Vietnamese mayo (given that it's a Vietnamese sandwich). My favorite part of the sandwich was the bread as it was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Overall, I expected a lot from this $15 sandwich. We used to grab banh min at their SF and Pacifica when we lived up in the city many moons ago. It was one of the best places to get them. So what a pleasant surprise to see them branch out and to the East bay of all places!! Had them bookmarked ever since I knew they opened but the weekday only hours prolonged my eventual visit. Well, finally made it and can we say Kare Kare and Tocino banh mi?? As if I didn't already love them enough and was excited to have them so close, they now have Filipino inspired banh mi?? The Kare Kare was all I imagined it to be and so so good!! And it comes with a side of bagoong bc why would you eat kare kare without it?? So excited to stumble upon this spot for lunch! Ordered the beef banh mi & tocino banh mi with the watermelon lychee drink. The bread was really crunchy on the outside & soft in the inside. There was a generous portion of pickled vegetables which I absolutely loved & the team member who helped me was super friendly. The watermelon smoothie with lychee was okay. Was curious about this place since I've never tried the one in the city. Located at the bottom of an apartment/condo complex. Very limited parking for that reason. Only street parking or maybe 2 guest spots. There was no line on a weekday at lunch. I ordered the tocino and meatball. It took about 10 minutes for the sandwiches to be ready. Kinda pricy - $16 per sandwich. No seating at all, this is just for takeout. The bread was very very good. It had a good crunch on the outside but was very soft and chewy. The meat quality is good. The tocino was a little sweet for me, but I really enjoyed the meatball. Overall this place does fill a void for banh mi in the area and they're worth checking out. read more

Came here to try dinosaurs again after it's been so long since I've been to their first location. The people there were very friendly. I was intrigued by their two vegetarian options, the mushroom one and the fried tofu one with taro. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the taro so I tried the mushroom one. It was so good and I enjoyed the freshness of the veggies and the bread as well! The whole sandwich was delicious. I wasn't too used to the amount of mayo in the sandwich. It was just a teensy bit too much for my taste, but still, the sandwich was amazing. They even gave a small cup of bagoong (shrimp paste), which really elevated the sandwich. The flavors were bold but still very well balanced. The bread looked hard at first, but it had the perfect amount of crunch and did not hurt your mouth at all. My boyfriend got the special, and that was also really good. Beef Kare Kare Banh Mi" which is sliced rib eye in a savory peanut sauce with a side of bagoong (shrimp paste). All of the sweet and savory flavors. The banh mi was thick and flavorful, and I don't think I've had one with these kind of flavors before. Not your traditional Vietnamese banh mi's. But let's talk about their Pork and Shrimp fresh spring rolls. Big pieces of shrimp, the grilled lemon grass pork comes through with every bite. I actually prefer the spring roll over the banh mi Yes, the prices might seem a little high, especially for a banh mi and/or spring roll, but these aren't your typical or traditional sandwiches. Rode my bike over the Dumbarton bridge from RWC. Forgot to pack some snacks. Figured I'd refuel somewhere on the other side. So after crossing over, did a lil local 'splorin for some eats. And then lo and behold, saw a sign that said "VIETNAMESE" and "SANDWICHES" and I was like "This is exactly what I need at this very moment in my life." But before I ordered I asked em about the size because if it was gonna be on the larger end of the sandwich spectrum it could be cramp city and a terrible ride back home. But the dude showed me the roll and it was that goldilocks size for cycling right after. Ordered the Special. They gave me some sriracha. I sat outside on one of their benches and just demolished that thing. Good Lord it was good. I'd say I got at least 98% of it in my stomach, with minimal mess. And I wasn't thinking about this at the time, but their banh mi has solid sandwich integrity. That kind of thing is important. You don't wanna have to worry if the thing is gonna fall apart before it's time is done. If I keep cycling around the Bay, I might make it a thing to stop by their other spots as refueling points. Glad there is another banh mi place in the area, sad it's not opened on the weekends. The Special Sandwich - 4/5 Bread had a good crisp to it but soft in the center like a good baguette should be. The bread to filling was a little bit better. One drawback was that I was hoping for a little bit more pickle veg for a little bit more acid but otherwise everything was good. Pork & Shrimp Fresh Roll w/ Peanut Sauce 4/5 This was pretty much a meal on its own and not really a side or appetizer. Ingredients tasted fresh, got a good crisp and flavor from the apple. Worked well with the peanut sauce but wish there was a bit more pork & shrimp. I got the Special. For $16, I'd expect the Banh Mi to be just bigger and better than most places. In San Jose, a Banh Mi is about $10 or less. The sandwich is shorter but slightly wider, and contains maybe 20% more filling than an average place. The bread was good. Crispy, crunchy, and had a slightly fluffy interior. Although, oddly enough, the bread that mixed with the moisture from the fillings kind of felt cakey. And just a warning, the roof of my mouth was hurting later. Pate was excellent, but I would have preferred a bit more in the sandwich. Vegetables were standard. If you're looking for this location keep your eyes peeled as it can be difficult to find the sign when driving by. It is a small hole in the wall esque establishment set up for mainly takeout. I ordered the pork tocino sandwhich along with a thai tea. The workers there were friendly and even brought out the drink and sandwhich out rather than the usual name calling, and they asked about if additional sauces like Sriracha was wanted. It ran a total of $26.47. It is a bit pricey but the quality of the food is scrumptious, so it can be overlooked. Except for the thai tea because you could honestly get tapx. The sandwhich though was very well balanced in flavor and the sauce for the pork tocino was super tasty and the vegetables kept it refreshing.
