Lots of outdoor seating with umbrellas. No AC inside and it was 95 outside so hovering around low to mid 80s inside made it a little uncomfortable to dine in. Perhaps thats why the teens/young adults working the counter were not agreeable? But you get to see a little of the work the staff and chefs in the back/side do as its a nearly open kitchen design. Love-Love-Love this place. It's the Tri--Valley's own French bakery we can call our own. I love the blue decor and the gold plated flatware - tres chic! Sandwiches are generously large. The iced coffee was a great balance. I don't think you can meet a dessert you didn't like. My favorite is the Mille Feuille: not too sweet, flaky, messy and creamy. I found it easier to eat later by layer. It's become my special treat if I'm in the area. UPDATE 8/23/24: My recent visit today was for a savory treat. It pains me to leave this review but this can't be the same place I swooned over last year. We were on our way home from the North Bay and were excited to stop by for dessert. As soon as we stepped in we both noticed the croissants were pale. Concerning. The service was friendly and helpful as usual. The pastries looked...sad. Mille feuille texture suffered from it being late in the day but the cream lacked flavor. The base of my chocolate caramel tartlet was so hard I could barely cut it with a (metal) fork. The flavors were ok, but nothing jumped out demanding attention. A lemon meringue tartlet lacked a citrus hit to balance the sweetness of the meringue. I can no longer call this a top French bakery in the Bay Area. Is it good? Yeah, the pastries are a nice treat. Is it worth a one hour drive? It wasn't today. read more

I had this bakery bookmarked on my list to try ever since they opened. A few weeks back, I was in the downtown area attending a Yelp event and decided to stop by to try their pastries. Parking: no designated parking lot but given its downtown Danville, it's understandable. There's street parking and some city parking lots nearby. Service: average, it's a bakery so it's not going to be restaurant quality service. You order at the counter and the staff packs your pastries and you are on your way. There was no line when I was there so I can't really tell how efficient it is on a busy day. Ambiance: clean and good size bakery with some sofa seating, and some bar seating for you to enjoy your pastries if you decide to dine in. Pastries: 5/5 for the eclairs and the chocolate croissant which were the only pastries I was able to purchase during my visit. I really want to try their almond croissant but I didn't even see a sign for it when I was there, probably because it's sold out first thing in the morning. Maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to get my hands on one. The chocolate eclair was the better one compared to the coffee eclair but both were amazingly delicious. The flavors are great but when I got home, they left the quiche out of the bag even though I was charged for it and when you call, it's just a recording and you can't get through to talk to someone. They also didn't put a receipt in my bag so I have no way to show that I paid for the item. I should have counted all the items before I left, my bad otherwise cute place and good food. I came to Maison Benoit with a girlfriend Sunday morning and there was a long line out the door. This place is still super hyped and very popular. Line up in the front, place your order at the counter, grab a number, and your food will be brought to your table. Strawberries were fresh and sweet. - Eclairs: Both good, but expensive (as is everything else I ordered) - Cold Brew: Would not order this again. All in all, I'm glad I tried their pastries. Had heard about this place from some coworkers. They had mentioned things sell out quickly and there are lines out the door, so maybe want to get there early. Decided to go on a Saturday, got there around 7:20am ish, to my surprise, no line out the door. Got up to the glass and started to scan to see what looked good and proceeded to order. The young gentleman that was "helping" me didn't seem like he wanted to be there, but I gave him my order which consisted of the almond croissant, pain suisse, chouquette, cinnamon brioche, kouign-amann and galette des rois chocolate peanuts (my fav)...Think he was annoyed that I kept adding pastries to the order or he didn't want to be there. I was afraid to ask any questions for fear I was going to get the Soup Nazi treatment. I'm glad I didn't add any drinks, as that might've pushed him over the edge. Told him I was finished, slid over to the register and then he started talking to a co-worker that was helping another customer. He was getting on his co-workers' case for not knowing his order (apparently, he's a regular at the shop). As they say, first impressions go a long way and I was not impressed with the service I was provided. HOWEVER, the pastries were top notch, everything that I ordered was delish, melt in your mouth good (gotta be the butter). It was a nice day so the wait wasn't too bad. But then we got to the front and they said they sold the last croissant to the lady in front of me. I was devastated. He didn't say a word, only moved his head slightly from side to side to indicate a silent "no". No recommendations, no "let me check", no expression. No words. Nothing. What happened to friendly customer service? Not sure if he was having a bad day or not, but that's not the point. As the price of eating out increases, it's not too much to provide a minimal level of customer service. Pretty damn good croissants, pastries and sandwiches for a reasonable price. Your traditional croissants and pain au chocolats are in the $4-5 range and are solid! You get good crispy, soft, flaky layers of carb with a light buttery base flavor. Not too overpowering. The croque was so buttery and cheesy as well. I'm very surprised at the lemon meringue tart, though. The custard is well-formed but not thick and the meringue is so light, it floats off the tart if you bite it wrong. The flavors are so on point as well. It's a good reason to go to Danville, personally. read more

Obviously others have heard too and the line was out the door and about a half block long about 10:15 on a Friday morning. It's got a casual vibe, lots of people sitting around enjoying their morning coffee and pastries! It took us about 20-25 minutes to get to order. I got a pain au chocolat and my wife got a regular croissant and a sandwich to go. The bakery display had a fly in it and the person helping us saw it and I was disgusted he didn't even throw away the bakery goods that the fly was all over I mean at least do it for show .
