Excellent corner spot , bar in front, restaurant in the back, also seating outside.. this place had the most delicious Lamb Burger, and with that , French fries, along with a watermelon salad.. all delicious, and wonderfully presented.. service was amazing.. !

Food was delicious and large portion, pork chop was tender and flavorful and big. Highly recommend!

Haven't dined in Harlem for more than 5 years. My friend asked me to meet him here and I'm so glad he did. This is my new favorite restaurant! The atmosphere was vibrant yet cozy, the kind of spot that immediately makes you feel at home while still feeling special. We started with the clams, which were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, followed by a charcuterie board that was beautifully presented and had an amazing variety. The Paper Plane cocktail was perfectly balanced: smooth, slightly bitter, and just the right amount of kick. But the star of the night? The steak. It was buttery, tender, and bursting with flavor - honestly one of the best I've had in the city. Every bite melted in my mouth. Between the food, the service, and the lively Harlem energy, Maison Harlem is easily a 10/10 in my book. I'll definitely be back.

Came to Maison Harlem for a friend's birthday and had a great time! The booth seats were spacious and cozy, the decor is amazing, and the vibes were perfect. The food, drinks, and service were all superb. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

While looking at schools, we went for lunch before heading home. This place was recommended by the friend we went with and I was already excited knowing it was french food. The bar is right up front for those who just want to stop in and the restaurant is in the back. They had music playing and artwork all over the walls. It had a lot of character and vibrant colors. The waiters were very attentive and our water cups were never empty. We ordered the mushroom risotto, hanger steak, lamb burger, and quiche. The plating was spectacular to start. I was wary of the carrots in the risotto, as I usually don't love them cooked, but I went for it anyway. To my surprise, it was a great addition to balance the earthyness of the mushroom and tang of the balsamic glaze. I literally had to make a similar dish the next day because I was craving it. I tried my boyfriends steak and wow was that good too. He subbed the red wine sauce for peppercorn and got the potatoes au gratin. The steak was medium rare and so flavorful and tender. The peppercorn sauce was different than expected, as I believe it was a red peppercorn sauce, so it tasted slightly more vinegary - pairing great with the steak. The potatoes were good, but we wanted a little more cheese. I did not try the other dishes, but I was told they were great as well. Not pictured was the tart tatin. It cane with vanilla ice cream and was different than expected, but wonderful nonetheless. I will definitely come again if I move to this area.

I love a spontaneous find! We were walking around uptown in a new neighborhood and realized we would be down for some French food. The restaurant is cozy-- perfect for a date night-- and we saw quite a few first dates happening! The service was on point, too. We decided to share some saffran moules frites (mussels and fries), a burrata salad, and escargot. Everything was cooked to perfection. I was pleasantly surprised that the saffron mussels would be so savory. We had to ask for another basket of bread to dip in the sauce. It was very romantic sitting by the window and then realizing that it was pouring rain outside. A great local spot with good food!

Our food was good, but the service was lacking for me. It was friendly, but definitely not good. It's a pretty small restaurant, but the space is laid out in a way where you don't feel super cramped. It's quite cozy and warm. I really enjoyed the music-themed posters and how the menus are in vintage record sleeves. The playlist was also wonderful. We waited forever to order. My partner got a glass of wine, the truffle mac n cheese and a side of Brussels sprouts. I got the steak special. It came with fries, but I subbed for ratatouille because I like to always have a vegetable with my meals. Despite our wait to order, the food came out pretty promptly. My meal was all there but my partner still hadn't received the wine, nor the side of Brussles. A different person brought out entrees, so when asked about the wine, the person sent our waiter. He said he'd check on the wine and walked away so quickly that she didn't even get to ask about the Brussels sprouts. He quickly dropped off the wine and scurried off again and by the time we were saw him again, my partner was already finished with her entree and still hadn't received her side. Also, when I was midway through my steak, another server came by and dropped off a salad that apparently came with my entree. I wish the server had mentioned it before. It was already dressed and wouldn't have traveled well, so I opted to finish the salad instead of my steak. Our server did not check on us on his own at any point while we ate. We spent a lot of time turning our heads and looking for him and trying to get his attention. At the point where we were done with our dinner and wanted to order dessert, he was nowhere to be found and we sat idly for quite some time. Finally, he reappeared. He was carrying a huge stack of napkins and headed towards the back of the restaurant. Once he sat, we got his attention in the mirror and when he came over, we asked for to-go boxes and said that we'd also like to get dessert. Imagine our surprise when he announced that he was now off work... NOW. Typically when your waiter's shift ends, they 1) let you know and 2) introduce you to the person they'll be handing you off to?? This did not happen and very much rubbed me the wrong way. Our OG waiter hurriedly grabbed our plates and passed them off to another server to pack up. It was so hasty that the late-arriving Brussels we wanted to box was left behind. When the 2nd person came back with our to-go box, we asked if he was the person we could order dessert with and he said he wasn't our waiter either. Eventually we spoke to a 3rd guy who, surprise- also was not our new waiter. Eventually a woman took our dessert order, which as I am typing this - I'm wondering why we even stayed around for. I would come back, but if given the same waiter, I'd ask for someone else. He appears to be a hard worker, just not good at multi-tasking.

Great place to go before hours - gets crowded and noisy during peak dinner (loud live music). Slightly pricy but good food. There is also a happy hour at the bar. Friendly, relaxed service. Mussels with fries are heaping - large can serve two. My friend who goes regularly said the provencale (tomato) is the best - I'm not even a tomato fan but it was super tasty. Not chunks of tomato, more like a light wine broth with a touch of sun dried tomato flavor - savory. Mussels were a little oversteamed, my friend said they are usually a bit firmer. I also enjoyed the kale salad and side of brussels. Sausages were ok. French onion soup was great but way overpriced ($16!)

I came here for dinner with a friend. The French themed decor was tres adorable and the restaurant had a warm, cozy feel to it. However, the space was a bit cramped. Upon being seated, we were served complimentary baguette bread and butter. The bread was tasty and still warm. There were 2 duck dishes: Duck Confit and Hudson Valley Duck Magret. I was leaning towards the Duck Magret, and the waiter confirmed my choice. The Duck Magret came with peppercorn sauce, served with haricot vert (green beans) and potato gratin. This was plated beautifully, with plenty of sauce covering the duck, masking that it was quite rare. The duck was way too pink for me, and still wasn't tender or juicy. It was the sauce that saved it... Wonderfully savory, full of peppery taste, as well as rich. I definitely should have mentioned how rare it was though. The Haricot Vert was nicely crunchy and cooked well. Potato Gratin was baked in a rectangular shape and were layers of finely sliced potatoes, along with cream, butter, cheese. This was deliciously rich and full of bold flavor. My friend ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. I got to try some and found the fries to be addicting - Delightfully crispy and well seasoned. For dessert, my friend and I shared Chocolate Lava Cake, with vanilla ice cream. The cake had a sprinkling of powdered sugar and mint leaves on top. It was just okay, as there wasn't enough chocolate oozing out. The cake was still delightfully chocolate-y, sweet and soft. Ice cream was velvety smooth and paired well with the cake. Service was decent. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Prices were medium - Not cheap, but not that expensive either. However, I wasn't fully satisfied with my meal so would not return.

During our trip to NYC, my partner and I took the subway up to Harlem for something to do. We found this restaurant and our experience was fantastic. The food was delicious; I'm vegetarian and they had multiple options on their menu that I could enjoy. Our waiter and hostess were both super sweet and helpful. And the atmosphere inside is great. read more

Great food, between us we got the coc au vin, mussels, and eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. They were all great, some of the best mussels in a while...they and the eggs were a bit salty for me but my family loved them. I really loved the coc au vin. Service was really good and it's a nice comfortable place to eat. I hope to be back! read more

Wonderful place for excellent food and great service. Richie was attentive and friendly. The hot cider toddies were so good!! You choose what kind of liquor and I got them with the Armagnac. What a cool vibe in Harlem! We went for a Thursday night dinner and were lucky to get a reservation because it was pretty packed. The decor is cool and the menus are made from old record albums. We ordered the escargot and moules frites. Both tasted so good that our only issue was we wanted more! The mussels had the occasional grit, but the flavor was so good that we were still impressed. He ordered the truffle macaroni and cheese for his entree and it was the perfect amount of truffle oil, not too overpowering. I had the canard magret, which was delicious and full of flavor. Highly recommend as an upscale local joint! read more

Perfect little bar, especially for happy hour. Me and a couple of my friends had the best time here on a Friday afternoon. The bartender was super cool and accommodating. He lets us taste the house happy hour wines before we selected one. Heli and I chose the Cabernet while Tomas went with the rose. A hefty pour of wine in a sparkling clean glass makes anyone happy. You know what else makes me happy? $8 appetizers. In particular, an $8 happy hour mini risotto with mushrooms, cream, butternut squash, and balsamic served in a little individual sized cast iron skillet.. I'm serious. It was as delicious as it sounds and I couldn't believe the amazing price and portion size. We also ordered the $8 sausage sampler which was totally delicious. I'm a huge fan of tapas so this place was 100% up my alley. We met new friends here and could have spent hours at our cozy bar stools. Great food, wine, company, and service so it was 5 stars all around. We were so lucky to literally walk upon this spot and end up totally loving it. read more

It's always a struggle to find a French restaurant that's Vegetarian friendly. They have a wonderful selection of sides in this regard. These include ratatouille, cauliflower gratin, potato gratin, and more. The Avocado tartine looks good. I've had their truffle risotto and it's really good. Shazam'ers such as myself will appreciate their smooth soul soundtrack. read more

Took the New York shell steak to go. Steak is best described as the style of steak you usually find in Paris, a round cut. Medium rare was appropriate and it's served with fries, also reminder of the steak y frites a la Europe. Staff was friendly and efficient. And yes, this is really a true French run establishment. read more

On the way to a barbecue with classmates, my friends and I stopped by here to pre-game it. The front of the place is the bar area, and we were able to all fit in there. The bartender was nice, and took care of us well. I had some shots, and a latte (feel free to make fun of me). The prices were comparable to other bars in the area, and the latte provided a much needed energy booster. The back of the place is the restaurant. I didn't get food this time around, so that will come in a later review. They have a good assortment of drinks and snacks, my friends were content with them. It was a good quick stop, I'll be back in the future to try out their food. read more

This was an awesome experience from the time we entered to the time we left. We were waiting for our flights and then they were both cancelled and we were able to enjoy the good vibes on a Thursday night. They had happy hour and live music and the staff was extremely amazing even Jean. I had the Ratatouille Salmon and my partner had the Seafood Pasta and we both cleaned out plates. This was a great choice for dinner and their appetizers were really good as well. If you are ever in Harlem this place is definitely a vibe. read more

This was a really excellent dinner! All of the food was delicious, fresh and tasty. Great atmosphere/vibe. Menus were inserted into old vinyl albums! $5 happy hour drinks at the bar (not in the dining room). Service was pretty good, except that ALL of the food (appetizers and entrees) came out all at once. The table got so crowded that there was no room to put the food. We sent the food back to the kitchen hoping it would not be cold by the time we were ready for the entrees. But I have to say, besides this one glitch, service was really good. They even graciously took back one order of Steak Tartare because we ordered too many. Oh! And I have to mention that their bread is absolutely fresh, warm and delicious....and went well with EVERYTHING we ate! hahaha I can't wait to go back to try their other menu items....and for more escargot! :D Our shared menu: ~ Escargot - delicious! Can't wait to go back for more! ~ Sirloin Steak Tartare w.frisee salad - my first time having steak tartare and I thought it was delicious! It came with 4 condiments (capers, mustard, onion and relish), which you can mix yourself, or have the waiter mix it for you. We opted to have the waiter mix it for us. ~ 3 Duck Salad (smoked duck breast, smoked rillettes & duck confit w.walnuts) - another delicious dish! ~ Merguez de Barbes (grilled spicy homemade lamb sausages w.french fries) - good dish, not great, but the French fries was sooooo good! ~ Truffle Mac & Cheese - kinda disappointed in this dish. Great French place in Harlem. I had the carbonara and it was very tasty. The portion was big and I couldn't finish it. The fries are the skinnier authentic French fries instead of the thick ones. read more

I came here when you couldn't do indoor dining in NYC and it was February so COLD. However, despite the craziness (snow on the ground and a rat making an appearance which freaked out this woman sitting a bit of a distance from us; i don't blame her since after I saw it run by, it also bothered me) the staff worked very hard and the food was good. The guy who took me, a native of France, was the one who brought me and he seemed to approve as well. read more

Who am I kidding? I don't, just, like this place. I LOVE THIS PLACE. Yes, it's that good. I love the people they hire, I love the decor, it is superbly clean, there is live music, when there isn't live music: there is an awesome honorary DJ who plays all of the right music. Maison is where I love to fall in love with myself. Maison helps me feed my soul. Signed, sealed and delivered. They do, what they do well. Is it possible to gush more about it? Well, I'm. Working. On. It. (Seriously.) They price the good Malbec at a reasonable point. The food is solid, the experience is always an amazing time: whether sharing in conversation with the bartender or making a Maison friend. Is it possible to not have a good time here??? read more

Updated because I keep ordering and am wowed by the flavor of the food everytime! I had something called "Feuille de Brique" for breakfast. Sunny side up egg. Side salad. Ham and cheese in philo dough grilled to buttery perfection like a Monte Christo sandwich. A bit pricy for the portions but that's their schtick. I ate everything & was definitely left feeling hungry. But the quality lacked for nothing. read more

Vey fun, very delicious. Casual and laid back. Saturday night and it is quite busy 9pm and onwards. Were told 10 minutes to wait, but that quickly turned into 45...However, we were in no rush and the bartender gave us free shots of tequila, as did the host when we sat down at our table. Really great food all around in one of the best atmospheres in Harlem you could ask for. We shared largest charcuterie board - le grand mix, homemade sausages, truffle mac n cheese, and then 2 of us had shell steak with peppercorn sauce, and our 3rd person the seafood croustillant. With a bottle of wine, about $85 pp. Well worth it. read more

First time here. Ordered the seafood pasta for takeout tonight. Legit. Pasta was al dente plenty of seafood with a good portion of bread. Chased it down with Culitos moscato rose. Definitely would get this again. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped off serendipitously at this bistro on a road trip that took us through New York. Traditional French fare - we enjoyed French onion soup, Poulet Ratatouille sandwich and Hanger steak. The indoor space had lots of well worn character, which was complemented by plentiful outdoor seating, where our dog felt very welcome! read more

Had an amazing server by the name of Steph. The food was fantastic as per usual! The manager was really a disappointment considering from the time I arrived, my whole presence was an inconvenience to him. I even had a reservation, it was for one but I respected the establishment that I do long enough to make one! The manager really needs to remember that it is not bad to greet, seat and check in on a customer. Especially if you can send in front of the table, hands behind his back and looking out into space! read more

This restaurant is very cozy at the corner of a street. The waitress was very nice and gave me lots suggestions on the menu since I'm in keto diet. The bread was warm and soft. I got the snails that were a little bit plain but the steak was really delicious. The waitress really took care of me and sub a lot sides into keto friendly. Will be back again! read more

If I could give this negative stars I would. As someone that works in restaurants all over the world, I HAVE NEVER received such terrible service that I got up and left. Think of it as the uptown, chill version of the ORIGINAL La Goulue. There -- my review is complete! :-) But seriously, I stumbled upon Maison Harlem (the locals just call it Maison) recently at the advice of one of my chic-est girlfriends, and I could LITERALLY dine here every day. The food is excellent (and FWIW, I have lived in Paris); the staff is très adorable, and j'adore the super-chill decor that is perfect (ie, done but not trying too hard). We were here on our first night in Manhattan, kicking off a spring break college tours trip by meeting some old friends from home who were in town for completely different reasons. How fun! Our friend chose the spot, so I did not know what to expect. More Maison? more Harlem? The right answer: yes. The french cafe feel (and crowdedness) the live music just finishing up as we arrived, the too-on-the-nose album covers on the menu, the cassoulet (i'm a sucker for cassoulet. Did I ever tell about that time I had cassoulet in a cave, in Toulouse...) The delicious bread even. The cassoulet was pretty good: generous portions of the meats, a delicious bean base, maybe a bit overcooked for my taste, but that's a quibble. My wife and our friend both got the duck confit, and it looked good tho I stuck to my cassoulet to tell you the truth. Let me tell y'all something.. ordering mussels as takeout sounds like risky business (will they be cold? Chewy? Spilled all over?). By I did anyways. And they were absolutely AMAZING! Maisons mussels Mariniere arrived HOT, in a huge container tightly Saran wrapped so not a single drop of the amazing white wine sauce leaked AND they sent me an additional smaller (really an actual normal size takeout container) with more mussels AND a large salad with bread and fries. Oh and they showed up within 30 min (and I do not live next door), which was way before the estimated 60 min delivery. Also ordered potato gratin but they sent me mashed potatoes instead (not even mad because it was delicious and creamy and I don't really discriminate my potato masterpieces). Did not expect to get all this for $25! The mussels were just as good or even better than ones I've had IN restaurants. Will be ordering again and try and stop into the actual restaurant some time! read more

We had a Saturday night reservation and were promptly seated right when we arrived, even though we were a little earlier than our reservation time. The tables are very close together - so close that we had to move our plates and chairs a few times for other people to get in/out of their tables - and there is no air conditioning so it gets very warm inside very quickly. Our server was Leonella and she was excellent. The decor is a little funky, and the menus were made out of old album covers. The food tasted good and came out from the kitchen quickly, but unfortunately is pretty overpriced for what it is and for the serving size. A salad and a cheeseburger with one side of veggies cost us $52 (before tip). read more

For authentic and tasty French cuisine I love this place. Unfortunately when were came they were extremely busy (great sign)? So the service was a little slow. I may have just been a little hangry but overall it was a great experience. The escargot was amazing. My family all tried done and not everyone was into it. But I loved it. I give this place 2 stars because it's a cute little spot...I mean like really little & 1 just because they get one by default. But honestly I don't love it. I get why it's a hotspot and it always pretty busy bc honestly there's not much to decide over it. It's in a location around fast food joints and junkies on 125th. The staff is kinda cool and kinda rude. I used to pop in for coffee after I'd drop my son off at school so by 8:30 I'd be there then all of a sudden it was sorry no coffee until 9:30 and they'd expect u to sit ur ass outside and wait. No thanks, I'm not in a good bank line where I'm waiting on free shit. And your coffee isn't worth the wait. At all. I've also been here for happy hour and we've chowed on oysters (well not me but my friends) and the wine was aiiiiight nothing I'd run back over for. But a good price at $5 a glass. read more

This is a great social affair on Sunday nights!!!! The restaurant has live band come to play from 5pm-8pm. The sets are varied but skewed to Caribbean hits. I restaurant is small and gets crowded quickly so I suggest you come in early or call for reservations. Luckily I was able to score a seat inside near the band. I knocked off a star because when I went it a few selections on the menu was sold out and I didn't get to eat anything. The drinks were okay but I will be back to try food! read more

We ordered from Maison Harlem tonight for home delivery (I am writing this during the 2020 COVID quarantine lockdown) and were blown away! Our jaws dropped when we opened the containers to see fresh, delicious French food- still warm in the bag! The flavors are delicious and portion sizes are extremely generous. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Thank you Maison Harlem for giving us the best meal we have eaten in the last 2.5 months while quarantining at home! He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

We were told the kitchen was backed up. this is apparently the norm. For appetizers, the French onion soup was a gold star dish. My friend had the goat cheese salad which she said was also very good. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.

I ordered the special (the spicy rice, lamb and chicken combo, extra white sauce, 3 squirts of hot sauce, and a topped with fries). $13 in total. That is going to help you, in case you do not want the typical lamb and chicken combo. To the food - 1st - they don't care how much hot sauce you want. they're making these bowls in the masses and are just giving you a single squirt so they can make 20 bowls all at the same time. I was hoping for more spice in what I ordered, but it was very slightly spicy. I'm not sure if they let you serve yourself to more, but I'd definitely want more of the hot sauce. 2nd - I didn't taste any spice in the spicy rice. I'm not sure if, again, due to the fast production that it all just taste like regular rice? but didn't see what the hype was there. 3rd - I genuinely think the white sauce is what brings it all together. The chicken was OK to me. I didn't think it was anything special, and would give it a 3 out of 5. texture was OK, flavor was OK... the lamb definitely stole the show. The lamb was absolutely flavorful and full of delicious spices. This reminded me of what I've had in Dubai. Very rich in flavor and just the perfect amount of spices. Overall, I think if you wait for your food to cool down like 20 minutes, you'll get to taste the flavors more. Everything hot together, for me, just didn't allow me to really absorb all the food. But the rice was your average rice. Pita was deliciously soft and pillowy which complemented the white sauce. Chicken was ok. had an OK texture; nothing life changing. lamb was fantastic, and fries were just fries (nothing memorable). For a NYC experience, a 1-time, 50 minute wait is acceptable. And, for $13, that's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. I would eat it again if the line was 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'm positive you will find similar food/better food elsewhere.

The honey butter pancakes were pretty good but kinda drenched in the butter that made it hard to finish. The korean wings were also alright but the batter to me was kinda thick and heavy and lacked crispiness. The best item we ordered was the breakfast sandwich with hashbrown, scrambled eggs, and sausage. I think the eggs are cooked with cheese, and as someone who typically does not eat cheese, I didn't mind it. I don't know if I'll be back again - I think the concept of an asian twist on the classic diner does sound intriguing but difficult to execute. I also wasn't a big fan of the wait time. If you typically like heavier, diner food then this spot might be the place for you!

They don't take online reservations for groups over 5, so we called to make one for our group of 6. It was pretty busy Friday night, so would recommend. The service was great; they drew the cutest card when they found out it was my brother's birthday and let us bring a cake. And they also offered hair ties to the people with long hair. You order through an iPad which has a beautiful menu.

It's one of the larger stalls in the market and has some seating, but not enough, and the market seating is very limited as well. I ordered the hibiscus lemonade and the very spicy Dan Dan Mian. I loved watching the staff prepare the noodles while waiting. My bowl was huge and absolutely delicious. It was very spicy as promised, but not too spicy that it was rendered not enjoyable. I looked at other orders and everything looked delicious, leading to only semi-regret of my choice. My lemonade was very good. I'm very much looking forward to returning.

Bartender review: Rich/Mitch (I can't remember his exact name) has developed a reputation for being overly focused on maximizing tips toward the end of his shift. He regularly requires customers to close out their tabs before he leaves, even when they plan to continue ordering drinks afterward. More concerning, however, is his treatment of customers. On multiple occasions, he has been openly rude and aggressive toward both new patrons and regulars. A friend of mine stopped going to Maison Harlem entirely after an incident where he yelled at her and her friend for sitting at the bar while only ordering soda instead of alcohol. She also witnessed him berating another customer who briefly stood up from their bar seat to stretch, telling them that if they were not actively using the seat, they should give it to someone else. I personally had an experience where I came in near the end of his shift and simply asked for a drink, only to be told, "The bar is closed," despite the establishment itself still being open. It felt less like an operational issue and more like he did not want to serve a drink if he would not personally receive the tip from it. Overall, Rich/Mitch's behavior comes across as hostile, unprofessional, and damaging to the atmosphere of Maison Harlem. Edgar has a reputation for holding grudges and allowing personal feelings to affect how he treats customers. Many regulars know that if you get on his bad side -- even over something minor or perceived -- your service will noticeably suffer. He will avoid acknowledging you while you are waiting to order, serve people who arrived after you first, and sometimes occupy himself with other tasks, like cleaning glasses, instead of taking your order. For example, he consistently slow-rolls my cousin whenever he comes in, despite not knowing that we are related. The last time I visited Maison Harlem, Edgar completely ignored me over what appeared to be a perceived slight from three months earlier. Even after making eye contact with him twice, he continued serving customers who had arrived after me before finally acknowledging me. Another time I decided to order different drink than what I regularly order and the following week I went back to my usual order. At my next visit, the bartender mistakenly made the drink I had tried that one time instead of the drink I actually ordered. I politely sent it back, and even other patrons at the bar commented that it was not what I had ordered. Apparently, he did not take that well. That incident happened FOUR MONTHS AGO, and ever since then, the service I receive from him has noticeably changed. He consistently delays taking my order and bringing my drinks. One evening, I timed it: he cleaned the bar, served multiple customers who arrived after me, and only brought my drink after about 15 minutes. Another time I came in with a friend. He brought her drink almost immediately, but I waited nearly 20 minutes for mine while he chatted with other patrons, cleaned glasses, and even went downstairs to the basement before finally serving me. On two separate occasions, he comped my friend's drink while still charging me, which only reinforced the impression that the treatment is personal. Overall, the behavior feels petty, unprofessional, and unnecessarily hostile over what should have been a minor and routine correction to a drink order. Customers should not feel like they need to accept an incorrect order just to avoid retaliation or poor service afterward. At this point, I have decided that I will no longer go to Maison Harlem when Edgar is working. His behavior creates an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere that makes the experience unpleasant. The bartender Art is consistently kind, professional, and welcoming. He creates a positive atmosphere at the bar and treats customers with warmth and respect. Every interaction with him feels genuine, and his professionalism and friendly demeanor are a big part of what makes Maison Harlem an enjoyable place to visit. read more

On 11/10/12 at 9:30 am we called them to ask what time the brunch was, they said they start at 11 am. At 11:05 we were there and the door was locked. The bartender inside waved saying they were closed. There was a food delivery person outside who said they start brunch "at 11-11:30". How about 1 pm??? Are you serious?? You just lost two potential regular customers. UPDATE: Given the extremely close proximity of this establishment from where I live (across the street), I decided to give them a second chance. The maitre d' welcomed us immediately upon arrival with a warm "Bonjour". It was almost 1 pm (the day after thanksgiving, Friday) and I was not sure about their available breakfast offerings. Luckily, they were still serving everything but the pastries, fair enough. I ordered the omelette made with 3 toppings of my choice (generous serving with side salad and potatoes) and my 2 other friends ordered the French toast and the Croquet Monsieur. The French toast had a side of fruit salad, bacon and potatoes besides the toasts with maple syrup (not your typical - a better one) and we all liked our dishes. The bacon was crispy and not very oily. The omelette I had was really really yum. The only flaw was, I ordered Americano and they brought a latte first. No problem, they brought me my Americano finally but it was a little unusual, there were particles of grounded coffee beans and it tasted a little weird. With some milk, it tasted OK. But, let me tell you this. This place has a great interior design, reasonable pricing, friendly staff, fresh, generous and yum servings of French delicacies - in the heart of Harlem. This place is not just ideal for a romantic evening but also great for groups, thanks to its spacious yet cozy setting. We had a corner by the windows to ourselves. We started our meal with the French onion soup and foie gras, both of which were served in portions perfect for sharing. Try dipping some of the fois gras and bread into the soup. You will not be disappointed. Moving on to the main course, the cassoulet and wild mushroom risotto stood out with their exquisite seasoning - so perfectly balanced that there was no need for additional salt or pepper (available on the tables if needed). These dishes were particularly comforting on a cold evening, warming us with each spoonful. The service at Maison Harlem deserves a special mention too. Our waitress was prompt and intuitive, and non-intrusive. To finish, the crème brûlée was nothing short of perfection, a fitting end to a memorable meal. It was a delightful blend of creamy and crunchy, leaving us satisfied yet longing for more. TLDR; Maison Harlem delivered an exceptional dining experience, marked by well-crafted dishes, attentive service, and an atmosphere that makes it a must-visit for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. I totally intend to come back and adjust my review down the line depending. The decor is very cosy and welcoming. Though i think somebody overestimated the durability of the brass piping between the floor boards, which when it was all intact looked great but now peel back in certain places and pose a hazard because it's sharp. The prices really are not that bad. You can get a burger ($10.50) cheaper here than most other Bistros nearby and the more fancy dishes are also on par with what others charge and their portions are very generous. What was most disappointing for me was the sauce that accompanied my pork chop (which was gigantic). On past trips to France what stood out most for me was just how mind blowingly orgasmic the sauces were and you didn't even have to be at some famous place like the Le Grand Vefour (which in hindsight I should have refinanced my mortgage to eat at) to experience it, you could be at a tiny out of site bistro with a handful of tables in the 6th Arrondissement. I also had the Mushroom soup which was the soup du jour. I didn't love it, not because it wasn't fresh because it was and you could taste it, but something about the texture was a little off and also the taste was missing something too. Their tragic downfall is similar to the host of other downtown meets uptown garden variety bistros. They boast the fare, prices, pretentious attitudes and biases of downtown without the quality of downtown service. The manager and the entire wait staff (because at some point they were all involved in serving our table) were slow, unaccommodating, and brusque. MH staff tried really hard to cater to the table next to us-a very fabulous couple, not from the community that received a number of free wine tastings but ended up buying a single glass. Ha! Ha! MH staff should not make assumptions; my friend and I could have easily been sold on a bottle if the service was half decent and I could stand to stay there longer than it took to eat a meal. We also live in walking distance and would make great repeat customers, oh well! I won't rush back here any time soon. read more

I had a client in town and he really wanted tom eat somewhere in Harlem. I know he like French Cuisine so I decided on Maison. He was a nice crowd foe a weeknight. I was very pleased with the service, decor and cuisine ( even though not a big French Fan it was a nice change of pace). My client is a big fan of escargots. I tried it and actually liked it.
