This was a great sail to wrap up our vacation. We had a groupon and called up to make reservations. The place is located on the beach just past Sheraton. The crew was great and their maitai truly is delicious. The catamaran is quite fast and sturdy. We loved the blue waters and had a lot of picture opportunities. We were not able to spot any sealife but just sat lazily and sipped maitais watching the ocean. We had a great relaxing time and wished all our evenings were like this. read more

I would give this 4 stars, the rest of the people that came with me would give it 3 stars. If you think that you can go out in the ocean and not get wet, you best get prepared, because you will get soaked. It is not a boat cruise type of ride. You actually feel the waves so if you get sea sick easy, this probably is not for you. Make sure you are ready to cover the camera too because it does get choppy at times. My favorite booze cruise in all the land.. errrr.. I mean sea! I've literally done this cruise more than a handful of times and every single sunset-lit, breeze-swept, joyfully inebriated getaway leaves me ... well, thankful. Yes, thankful. What better way to enjoy this beautiful island then getting a chance to literally look at "the big picture" through a soothing ride out to sea. Happy-go-lucky music in the background, friendly faces, and an open bar of aloha made cocktails. Staring out into the sunset, ocean, beaches, diamond head .. your pick! My husband and I have taken friends and family alike here, visiting or residing. Just recently we decided to mix it up and take the fireworks cruise last Friday and it was some serious magic! This was such an incredible experience. Kia was amazing and kept our drinks full the entire time. The company makes their own Mai tais and they were delicious!!! She was walking around getting to know everyone and offered an entire Apple notes of places to visit. We were able to visit quite a few of those spots the next day and they were all remarkable. The bartenders and hosts were friendly... funnily, the crowd was a little "to themselves" and people weren't really mingling, mostly staying with the crew they came with... but I'm sure that's just luck of the draw. Had a fun cruise this week for my husbands birthday. I used the groupon and booked for 12. In the end we had about 18 people book. On the boat was great the crew took care of our group. However costumer service on the other end was not great. I called to make sure everything was set up and asked if half our group could board before my husband and I got there to surprise them. They said no...no big deal. When we all arrived I wanted to get the main picture of our group all together. Since some of our group booked separately, the lady who was organizing kind of barked orders for my group of 12 to take the pictures. Once again they were following protocol. The worst part of the whole thing was that a couple of our friends bought the groupon but didn't book because they thought I had reserved spots. They were not allowed to get on and since we were not allowed to enter the boat together we were stuck up there just wondering where the other group went. I expected more courtesy since we had filled up a large portion of their boat. I think this boat is great for a small group if you have a large group may be pay a couple dollars extra for the true aloha experience on another like Makani Catamaran and Holokai Catamaran I have had great experiences with both. read more

Super fun. Good value. Crew was awesome!!! All of them were so friendly! They were very skilled and competent, and helped everyone have a great time. We saw and swam with many sea turtles, and plenty of other fishes too. It's a simple "cruise" - nothing huge or crazy but it was well worth it. My only complaint is really more about me than anyone else - I'm not the strongest swimmer and I had assumed they would have life jackets available for the snorkeling. They did not, they only had pool floaty noodles. It worked OK but I would have felt more confident and relaxed with a jacket. If you want a life jacket - bring one. :) Also - the "lunch" was just Subway sandwiches - but that's not too much of an issue - we were out there to play in the water, not have special food. read more

I wish I could give them more stars, but there were so many negatives. (1) The check-in staff were unprofessional. (2) They take a photo before boarding. Not really a big deal, but they were asking $20 a pop upon returning. (3) The "mai tais" which the crew proudly mentioned more than once were homemade by them, contained almost no alcohol. I drank four of them and only had a tummy ache from all the dang fruit juice. I'm sure they would've sent me into diabetic shock before I'd get drunk. On the positive side, (1) the captain and first mate were very professional and polite. (2) I felt very safe the entire time. Except for coming back sober, I enjoyed myself. When a small shower of rain would pass by they took care of everyone and found another spot to sail and to enjoy the view of downtown Waikiki. My friends and I took the Tradewind Sails after purchasing a deal on either Groupon or Livingsocial. It's hard to keep track sometimes. Finding your way to Maita'i can be a bit confusing but this is what I did. I walked into the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and headed towards Kai Market. Once there, make your way to the outside bar and at the far end, there's a ramp that leads towards the beach. You'll find a hut that sells Maita'i tickets and the catamaran should be sitting there on the shore. (Refer to user photographs) The Tradwind Sails is a short ride out but still fun. Getting on the boat is fun. It's all about timing my friend. You climb up some stairs that extend from the boat to the shore. If your timing's off, get ready to have a wave crash into you. Hey, I wasn't the only one it happened to. On other catamaran rides, we were allowed to lay down or sit on the net at the bow of the boat. C'mon! That's where the action is! In any case, I still had a good time. I got plenty wet and had my fill of beers. The biggest plus was with the online deal, 2 of us were able to get on the boat for the price of 1! read more

Bought a living social deal and the first time got rained out, they gave me the option to reschedule or a refund. Since I live on the island I rescheduled, so glad I did! We arrived early and they took our picture (which we ended up buying $15...the view was amazing). After we got on the boat ...I recommend sitting on the side (in the front you will get wet, even on the side you get a little wet but it feels good when it's sunny out) they gave us a safety briefing and we were off! The crew was fun and made sure everyone was having a good time. This one passenger got sick and the crew offered him water and made sure he was okay! The drinks were not expensive but bring cash did not see a credit card machine. Bring your cameras, we saw a couple turtles and a whale and it's calf. The crew points it out so everyone is aware. The views are amazing as well!! Definitely a great sailing trip and my boyfriend who was iffy on going was asking when we were going to do it again before we even got off the boat. read more

Awesome sunset cruise!!! Wasn't expecting the free drinks, and it was already a great deal for a catamaran ride--much less than some boats. The captain, David, and his mate Greg were frickin' fantastic. Things got underway a little later than scheduled, but we got to stay out the full length of time. The girls on shore were super nice and helpful as well! Will definitely take another sunset cruise with these guys in the future...even though I'm a BIG fan of Captain Jack and the Spirit of Aloha catamaran which sails out of the Hilton. That cruise is perfect for a dinner sail on a Friday night to see the fireworks, but for any other night of the week, David and the Maita'i are the place to be. read more

This was a great trip! The afternoon sailings are 90 minutes long for $28 and it was a ton of fun seeing Waikiki from the ocean. You will get to see some pretty decent size waves as you go out a bit from shore (not for those that might get seasick). Beers were $3 and the Mai Tais were $5 but it is my understanding now that the sunset cruise they are free. The crew was great and it was a nice relaxing ride, I HIGHLY recommend it! P.S in the front you WILL get wet but they do have dry storage on board. read more

easily a 5 star experience. this is the second catamarran tour we've done. it must be something in the water that makes these crews be so cool, no pun intended. found an excellent price for these guys on Groupon,but, unfortunately let it expire. however, played around on the internet and found some hawaii coupons to get a comparable 2 for 1 rate. score for us. like i said, crew was amazing from check in to the ride to the return. they actually had time to pick up a lost snorkeler during our trip and rop her back off on her boat. if that's not service, i don't know what is. she didn't even pay for the ride!!! beers and champagne and mai tais were $5 on board. not too bad considering it's right on par and actually a little less than most the land based bars on waikiki. got to see some sea turtles. no whales this time of year but the waikiki skyline/shoreline was amazing nonetheless. we took the early tour at 11a. easy for us with the time zone to get up early for the beach, then come out here for a little break, then head back to the beach or bar. overall, this is an AWESOME experience that we highly recommend. read more

Awesome ride! And I think it's a must for anyone visiting the island. Recommend to book early. We booked over the phone and they handled us professionally. There are also several good discount opportunities if you do some research. Getting on the catamaran is part of the adventure. Sometimes a big wave comes crashing in on unsuspecting passengers as they climb on board. :) We slowly drift out to sea which is relaxing and gives you some great views of the island. Water is unnaturally clear and blue. :) The ride picks up. I wont say much more since people need to experience for themselves. I hear sometimes they see fish, dolphins, sea turtles. I really can't think of a better way to spend my Saturday afternoon, you might think the tickets to this are expensive, but when you account for the fact that it's an open bar and every restaurant on the shore will charge you $16 for a sub-par maitai... you'll soon realize that this catamaran is worth every penny. Whenever some dumb tourist asks me where the best maitai is on the island, I have and always will point them to this boat! The staff are always super friendly and amazing, but how could you not be when you get to sail in Waikiki every day? Special shout out to Ryan- if you need a photographer who also happens to the a bartender then he is the GOAT. Also last but certainly not least, when we were getting checked in Sam was super cool and just honestly nice. The whole experience is amazing! I think the only thing that I could say is if there are particularly annoying people on the same sail as you~ then you're stuck with them the whole time. Aside from Hanauma Bay, this was the best thing I got to experience on my trip to O'ahu! Wonderful people working the catamaran and the check-in process. I was honestly worried about getting seasick since I sometimes get motion sickness so I took a non-drowsy Dramamine. I survived and didn't get nauseous at all. I'm not sure if the medicine helped or if I just didn't get seasick. It was a great sailing trip. We got to see several sea turtles and the absolutely stunning views of Honolulu, Waikiki and Diamond Head. Since the water was calm, they even stopped and let people take a quick swim. Some of our best photos were taken on this catamaran. I would absolutely do this again in a heartbeat. Actually, I would do the snorkeling one as well! read more

Lahela was very helpful when booking the reservation and welcoming upon arrival. I had a blast snorkeling with the turtles last year on my birthday. When my wife's family came out, we made sure to bring them out to meet the Mai Tai crew and they all agreed, 5 stars! Booked a 1.5h tour through Groupon. Check in was super easy and straight forward. The spot is a little hard to find at first since it's kind of hidden behind the hotels on a tiny beach section. The tour itself was great. Waters were a little choppy which made it a lot more fun. However, this might not be the case for everyone. A lady behind us hit her head on one of the benches because she lost her balance. They offered all kind of drinks from alcoholic to non-alcoholic. They even changed course at some point to give us a good view on some dolphins that were nearby. Had a great time overall. read more

At first I was concerned that there wouldn't be enough room, but everyone fit comfortably and as soon as we set sail, people had plenty of room to get up and move around. We recently got married in Hawaii and hosted our out of town guests on this catamaran cruise. There were 12 of us total on a sunset tour. Overall, it was an enjoyable trip. I did quite a bit of research and this is the higest rated catamaran cruise. I also asked a few local friends and they all recommend this one over others. We didn't see any whales but did see quite a few turtles. The sunset was beautiful. Crew was friendly. Pick up is easy to find; right infront of Halekulani and the Sheraton.
