I took a bite out of my taco and ended up pulling a very long hair out of my mouth. I know it wasn't mine because I'm bald. The food I had there wasn't great anyway and I threw away the rest of it.

Friendly service and great spot near time square with decent food Really great quesadilla! Would definitely go back!

Food is overpriced for small portions The chips n salsa should be a complementary in EVERY mexican restaurant but they charge you for them $7 Service is bad i got drinks and the drink had barely alcohol they force you to buy food, so i got some empanada that were spicy and they didnt specify that the chicken is spicy. After we finished they force us to keep buyin more food if not we had to leave because supposedly they had more customers coming in. I dont recommend this spot!!

Maiz is a hidden gem amongst the chaos and bland food offerings of Midtown. A small little building, but Maiz has ample seating inside and cheerful decor. The staff are all extremely nice and fast. They have great vegetarian options and the prices are reasonable for midtown. Great for lunch when you're in the office. It's tranquil to sit inside or they're very fast if you're taking food to go. Skip Dos Toros and Chipotle, and come here instead.

Man, listen... I walked into this place starving. I hadn't eaten all day, right? So my stomach is doing backflips, and I'm thinking, "Alright, let me get some birria tacos. Hit the spot." Tell me why these people brought out two tacos and asked for eighteen dollars. Eighteen dollars! For two tacos! I looked at the plate like, "Where is the rest of them? Did the chef eat the third one on the way out of the kitchen?!" That's not a meal, that's a sample. That is egregious. I'm 5'11", 192 pounds two tiny tacos isn't dinner, it's a light snack before the actual snack. So I think, "Alright, let me just drink my frustration away." I order a cocktail. I take a sip. Nothing. I take another sip. Nothing. Man, that drink had so little alcohol in it, I think the bartender just waved the bottle of tequila over the glass and called it a day.

We ordered the chicken quesadilla , steak nachos. And steak tacos. They have a 5 all day happy hour that includes margaritas, sangria and beers The food was good , the drinks are basic the service is a little show because they have one waiter and the place gets packed quickly. The bill comes and you are handed a pad. It's confusing because they don't tell you the tip is already included. All in all a cool spot to grab a drink and apps in the area. I can't speak to it authenticity.

Maiz is an authentic Mexican restaurant with $5 margaritas and $4 shots all day so I had to make my way down. The restaurant great aesthetic that scream authentic. The food was very good. I throughly enjoyed the steak nachos. The Molcajate Maiz had chicken steak jumbo shrimp chorizo and fried cheese. This dish is intended for 2 ppl. The service was excellent, the staff was very friendly and prompt.

We had a good time, food was ok and frozen Margeritas bag ready, bland but the sangria was good. The place is small, good for an afterwork, drinks and a bit to eat. The drinks are small and that's what they're $5. Nachos are good but have to pay $4 for guac. It's a cute lil spot for just a quick bite n drink. Overall, I give it 3***'s If them drinks n guacamole was poppin so would have your score!!!!. Service was good because the food is right there and so are the servers, dish handlers....clean spot very important.

The food and service here is great. We went closer to the opening time and were immediately greeted by a friendly server. The restaurant is pretty cozy and they have an all day happy hour menu with $5-$6 margs and $4 shots. We tried the blue corn and flour tacos, empanadas & guacamole. The guac was probably one of our favorites. I would highly recommend dropping in if you find yourself near Times Square or just looking for a good meal.

Such an amazing spot with really good deals with their happy hour and $5 daily Margarita. Unfortunately, as a diabetic, you cannot enjoy the Margarita without so much sugar, because it's pre-made, but ask. Food and service is really nice enjoyed my time. Loved the nachos and fajitas !!

The front of house "girls" said a table would be available 1-2 hours but a seat at the upstairs bar was immediately available...tired and hungry we agreed. The kicker was: the upstairs tables were *completely unoccupied* and remained so for the hour or so it took to serve us a couple of drinks and eat a meal while seated at the bar. While the food and bar service was great, we expressed out disappointment of not being allowed to sit at a table in the *entirely vacant* upper level (BTW, it was wonderfully quiet up there, compared to downstairs). Excuses ranged from "short staffed" (despite three young women at front of house being deep in conversation with themselves) to "no server upstairs" , both clearly BS as someone clearly served us, but they were apparently "runners" not "servers". WTF? Seriously?! Heaven forbid two people sit at a table in an otherwise totally empty upper level. We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on.
