Do not recommend this place. Complete incompetence. I ordered two large açaí bowls and the guy told me it would be about 10 min. After 12 min and watching them serve several others, I asked what was going on. They told me they couldn't even make one and offered something else. I didn't have the time, they made me late, and charged me for one small and it wasn't even full. Didn't even seem to think there was anything wrong. If you want someone to respect your time, communicate with you, or give you the food you order and pay for, don't visit this place. read more

I was really excited to come here after following them on Instagram. Cute place, nice employees and they had knowledge of gluten free. My girls got some coffee drink they liked a lot and my mom and I got smoothies. The smoothies were ok not the best but I still enjoyed the drink, my mom did not like hers. You pay extra for them to make it Instagram worthy but not a lot, I opted out of that. Would I go again yes, but I would try something different. I get that it's just condensed milk slurry, but I've had really delicious and flavorful halo halo and this unfortunately didn't meet the mark. The gorilla açaí bowl was pretty good. The peanut shutter drizzle was a little warm maybe? Which actually paired well with the cold açaí. The dragonfruit and ube soft serve was really delicious according to those who ordered! The best bowls ever. I got the gorilla bowl. My daughter got the unicorn ice cream. It actually sparkles and tastes good. We can't wait to go back and try something new. They have good signage and fun decor for pictures. Go early for no line. Quick service also super nice people. I would not had gone but we saw the add on the tourist map and my daughter had to go. I'm going to start right off the bat by saying that these bowls are SHAREABLE. I mean that in all seriousness, because these bowls are enormous. The interior of the restaurant was so cute, and this is a perfect photo op spot. I got the dragonfruit bowl and my mom got the original acai bowl for $12 each, thinking that they would be a sufficient serving for us. The bowls took less than five minutes to come out and were huge (look at the posts!). The dragonfruit bowl was topped with granola, kiwi, bananas, strawberries, and honey. The flavors were so good, but there was just too much for me to finish. I ate half of the bowl and was full. I also didn't feel gross after drinking it, as I thought I might. It felt like a really healthy drink! It did take a little longer to make, maybe like about 15 mins. However, it's no Jamba Juice with powders and fast paced smoothie making robots. Not like I don't like Jamba but I think they're ingredients here are more fresh and local. The price is the one thing that might keep me from coming back. The smoothies for a small (16oz) are $8-9 and the large (24oz) about $11 or so. I would recommend you try it at least once! Terrible service the girl who took our order was so unwelcoming and had a crappy attitude. We ordered a gorilla bowl and a Cookie Monster bowl (small) and she failed to tell us they were out of honey and Nutella. When i paid for the items she looked like she was disgruntled because i didn't leave a tip on my card because I planned on leaving a cash tip. When we picked up our bowls that's when she told us oh we are out of Nutella and honey. Like oh well that's your problem. Will never go back and do not recommend this place. This place came highly recommended so I had to go. I got their açaí and one of the smoothies. I did like the macadamia nuts on the top of the açaí. There is always a long wait and it does show in the finished product since both of my dishes had ice still in it since they were not fully blended. Hoping to get an acai bowl for breakfast, we found Makani's Magic Pineapple Shack....however, things tend to open later (and close earlier) than what I am used to in the bay area, so we had the opportunity to explore (an empty) downtown Hilo. When Makani's Magic Pineapple Shack finally did open, there was already a line! We placed our order for a gorilla and a macnut coffee. There was a bit of a wait, as there was only 1 worker taking and making orders. Our number was called and we were given a HUGE acai bowl and a HUGE (good...because I ordered a large) coffee! The acai bowl was probably on the unhealthy end, but it had lots of fruits and plenty of acai slush (seemed to be blended with ice?) and the macnut coffee was good and had the right amount of macnut flavor. I would like to come back to try the other acai bowl combinations they offer. read more
