Finally got around to trying this place with the family. The fancy wun tun tong dumplings were a hit with everyone. The broth was fabulous. We soaked up every last drop with the scallion pancakes. I highly recommend that combo so you can enjoy the broth with something other than a spoon. The corned beef fried rice is also the kind of magic that I would come up with in my own kitchen. And I personally think that's a compliment. That was my favorite dish. The beef stir fry noodles were very mid compared to the other dishes. They were dry and fairly tasteless. How Makfam does not have five stars is a mystery to me. This food was absolutely worth the hype, even as a gluten free vegetarian- which is really saying a lot. Typically I do not love a glass noodle, as they can be texturally dry but let me tell you- These glass noodles were PHENOMENAL. Drown me in this dish! It had a toasted sesame flavor and the noodles were perfectly chewy, saucy, and packed with flavor. I would get this every day and not get tired of it. Then there is the mala tofu that was fried to a pipping hot crisp that had the meat eaters stealing pieces! The mala wings and mozzarella sticks are not to be missed either! The only two dishes that I would skip to make room for others would the scallion pancakes- that ran a little dense and not as flaky as I prefer to see- and the greens. They do rotate seasonally how we they just didn't land with our table like we had hoped. Overall the mocktails, food labeling, food options, and thoughtfulness behind each dish is noticed and 100% worth the visit. Lunch only review. Named in the 2025 Michelin guide as a Bib Gourmand restaurant, I went for lunch. Wow! Yep. Easily to see why. The quality of the food is outstanding. The menu has small and large bites to choose from. I chose the Bao bun with braised pork belly. Melt in my mouth good. The Fancy Wun Tun Tong dumplings in a rich chicken broth was exceptional. I sat at the bar, and the service was friendly and efficient. Inside has comfortable seating and is nicely appointed with Chinese signs. The bar appeared to be well stocked with lots of Chinese liquors, beers and other spirits. everything reasonably priced. Street parking. I ate at MAKfam twice in less than 16 hours - yes MAKfam's food is that crave worthy. And the service was friendly, relaxed and professional too! Denver needed a Chinese-ish restaurant which delivers excellent renditions of familiar favorites like Crab & Cheese Wontons, Fried Rice (Corned Beef!), Beef Stir Fried Noodles, and an assortment of dumplings and wontons. If you eat at MAKfam and complain that the food is not authentic and not what you had in Hong Kong or Taiwan, then you would be missing the point - MAKfam is only trying to be their version of family Chinese cooking. I suggest you sit down, stuff another carb down your gullet and enjoy the hospitality and yumminess. My favorite item on the menu is the Fancy Wun Tun Tong - these are chicken dumplings swimming in the most slurp worthy ginger broth with complex flavors. So freaking good that I'd order this on a 90-degree day. I was pleasantly surprised that the Scallion Pancake was not greasy and managed to keep the crispiness, however the flavors were subdued for my taste preferences. The aforementioned Beef Noodles are familiar and comforting and benefit from a drizzle of the house made Chili Oil for some added heat. If you're like me I always order the greens at Chinese restaurants, mostly to kid myself into thinking that this will balance out the weeks' worth of carbs that I have also ordered. You should also order them at MAKfam - they're redolent with a delicious garlicky sauce that is addictive. OK...you get the idea; there's a lot to love here and I can't wait to continue to eat my way through the menu. A couple of notes: The service at MAKfam is friendly, accommodating, and genuine. If you sit at the bar, you get full service (yes please!), but if you sit at a table you will need to go up to the register and order. Don't worry, all is handled efficiently, and your food will likely come out much faster than you expected. Also be aware that there are NO RESERVATIONS for dinner service as of this writing so be prepared to wait. This place is tiny and jammed and there is a lot of energy between the high-octane music and all the slurping. Please stop complaining about food prices and portion sizes - ugh - have you seen the price of eggs lately? And finally, there is only street parking in this very congested part of Denver. I made three loops around the neighborhood and restaurant before we found a spot. If you are a valet kind of person, maybe you need to check your expectations. Small menu. This first sign that this place doesn't mess around. They are very focused on perfecting each dish. We had the chicken wings. These were fricken delicious. It came with a Thai basil ranch sauce to dip in. I did not find the sauce very pleasing so I avoided it, but I didn't think the chicken needed it. We also ordered the spicy chicken Bao bun. This was good, but I've had better. Perfectly cooking with a crunch on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. My son ordered the beef and dish with rice. It was a nice size portion and very flavorful and fragrant. I ordered the spicy noodles with chicken. Very nice red chili flavor that was hot but not too hot. The flavor was excellent and the noodles tasted very fresh. They could've been more chicken, but it was a decent serving. I would definitely give this place a try. A cute little joint serving up Chinese fusion dishes! It's a nice spot for a quick lunch if you work in the area or are exploring Broadway. How to order is they sit you down at your table, you get up to order at the desk, and sit back down and they'll deliver your food. They are incredibly fast! The food was cooked well and hot when served. Dishes are individualized but you could share (depending on how hungry you are). What we ordered: Crab and Cheese Rangoons - A little too wet for my preference and it was mostly cheese, no crab. I liked the sauce - it was different, a bit sweet! Little Tiger Drink - Refreshing citrus drink. (You have to give your ID to get the cup) Bao buns - pick 3 - Pork Belly (not as succulent, a bit dry if not for the sauce on top), Spicy chicken (not spicy but the tastiest), and Shiitake mushroom (just okay). I went in again today. This time I sat at the bar. I truly recommend if you are by yourself sitting at the bar. You get recommendations from the bartenders. You may run into the owners. And you get a little more information about what's going down around town.... Specifically in the kitchen. So I had the curry chicken with coconut milk and it was a yellow curry with steamed rice. It was typical fabulous comfort food. It was executed well with carrots and potatoes and moist chunks of chicken and it was creamy and delightful. They served it with mild chili oil on the side. I highly recommend the chilly oil to add a depth of heat. I also got the scallion pancake pancakes. And when you load the curry and rice on the scallion pancake, it is absolutely divine. The only problem is this dish is going away. So if you want some of this curry, you better make your way down there before June when they change the menu. They're gonna keep some of their staples like the chicken wings and they're famous noodle dishes. But stuff that they associate with the heavier flavors of winter, they rotate out for some lighter dishes for summer. But this Chef absolutely knows what he's doing and the culinary excellence of the team behind him supports this restaurant and its vision and culinary flare. I came to MAKfam with my fellow Yelpie friend Eujenia ! This is one of her go to's and I was so excited to try it with her. The people working here were very friendly and helpful and we decided to sit at the bar together. Neither of us were feeling cocktails so we went with one of their delicious NA Mocktails instead! Ginger Blossom Fizz ... highly recommend ! That was such a treat and my favorite thing I had here. I've been trying to go to MAKfam for months but always manage to go when they are closed - this weekend I finally showed up at the right time for lunch! Not only did I leave perfectly full, it was a great air conditioned respite from the heat. We also really enjoyed looking at their wallpaper which had what I'd call tasteful animal/marine plant mutants all over it. MAKfam does family-style plates so my brother and I ordered 3 small bites and one large plate which was the exact amount of food we were hoping for . Prior to eating I ordered the coconut cold brew which was topped with cinnamon and brought me back to life. Then the small plates arrived : - stir fried greens : I didn't expect to be so excited about these but they had awesome garlicky flavor and the crunchies on top made the experience of every bite great - Chinatown dumplings : these were doughy potstickers goodness. I love a good potsticker and these were high quality. Next time I'd order 2 rounds - mushroom Bao - easily the fluffiest bao I've ever eaten and the addition of radish and avocado ranch (I think it was?) were delicious. My brother, who usually won't touch anything with mayo, enjoyed these which is high praise Then the big plate : - sizzling spicy noodles with chicken : came in a bowl and we're perfect for two people to split. I'm pretty wimpy when it comes to spice and could definitely handle these. They have a kick but well worth it to have a moment of chugging water if needed to give these a taste Hoping to return back to MAK fam for a meal on my own to explore more dishes. The sizzling spicy noodles was certainly a must try for spicy food lovers, as it was indeed very spicy. It was a customer favorite with special mala sauce. The noodles were chewy and bouncy. As an Asian sometimes you just can't help questioning the authenticity of a restaurant the moment you step inside to see a full staff lineup of non-Asians behind the counter and inside the kitchen. But then I catch sight of my favorite Vita Lemon Tea in the fridge, and a tiny spark of hope is reignited. And after a brief friendly convo with the cashier where I learned the owner of the restaurant also grew up in Hong Kong, and seeing the many pictures of 80's and 90's HK celebrities all over the restaurant, that tiny spark turned into a gentle ember. The scallion pancakes came out super thin and crispy, and a very potent onion flavor. Probably some of the best I've tried anywhere all these years living in the US. The Pork Belly Bao had that same hoisin sauce taste used in the Peking Duck dish. As for the Beef Glass Noodle and Beef Stir Fry Noodle, the Wok Hei was very distinct. Something a typical Chinese American restaurant is never able to replicate. I did deduct a star because despite the authentic flavors of both the noodle dishes, they were way too salty. Mala noodle was my favorite dish, the noodle was thick and was chewy. I would definitely eat it again. My only issue is that we asked for pork belly, but was served with braised/pulled pork. I just wish the menu would change the wording to shredded pork or something along those lines because I thought I was going to be served a thick slice of pork belly. The first time I tried this place, I ordered take out and picked it up. I would definitely recommend dining in at MAKfam because there is something different about the hot, fresh food straight off the stove! We came on a Thursday evening and had about a 35 min wait. I would also recommend sharing family style as I think it brings out the flavors in each of the unique dishes. We ordered the: fancy wonton tong, scallion pancake, sizzling spicy noodles, diced spicy chicken baos, and the beef stir fried noodles. My favorite and the most surprising dish was the sizzling spicy noodles. The texture of the noodles was *chef's kiss* and I loved the spicy and tangy seasoning. We got it with crispy tofu and that combination with the cabbage was so yummy! The scallion pancakes were thin and crispy and left me wanting more! I definitely want to try their jian bing next time and was bummed that you could only get those before 4 pm. Loved the diced spicy chicken baos as well. I think the only dish I would leave out next time is the wun tun tongs. It had too much shrimp for me and wasn't what I was expecting. It was busy in here and a little loud, but gives a retro feel as well as a hustle and bustle feel of a lively Chinese establishment. Order to Food: 10 Minutes Order to Cocktails: 15 Minutes We arrived at 6:30PM on a Saturday and parked in the neighborhood nearby. Surprisingly had no wait (we were expecting at least a half hour) and we got counter seating for 2. The music is a bit loud here. We weren't that hungry but still ended up spending a pretty penny for food and drinks. For two people, we split: - Fancy Wun Tun Tong (3.5/5): Make sure to eat this with the sauce and some soup (like a punctured soup dumpling) for maximum flavor. The texture of the dumpling was thicker than expected and had a nice chewiness. I'd say it was a tasty bite but for $4 per bite (4 dumplings), I wouldn't buy it again. - Sizzling Spicy Noodles (4.5/5): I thought this was excellently balanced on spice and flavor. A great serving of noodles that was quite sharable. Definitely would order this again, way better value than the dumplings. - Marinated Shiitake Bao (3/5): Honestly, I was expecting some more depth from this. It's exactly what it sounds like, though. The mushrooms were tasty and it was a packed enough bao, but it needed something to add a texture or flavor kick. Maybe for $3 I'd buy it again. - Shredded Pork Belly Bao (4/5): I'd definitely order this again over the mushroom bao, but the pork belly fell a bit flat in tenderness. It was a bit dry, but I guess this isn't Texas barbecue. - The Fortune Teller (3.5/5): I thought the Ube foam was the most unique part of this. Otherwise, it kind of just tasted like a slightly alcoholic tea? I got some faint notes of the coffee liqueur in bitterness but not too much. - MSGin (3/5): Okay, this one we just ordered because it was funny. It was basically a juiced up gin martini but the MSG rim was actually not bad. I wouldn't order it again though. Total ~$84 for two people. We felling love with the pork belly bao bun. The pork was finely shredded, with pickled radish on top and fresh herbs. The bun itself was soft pillowy sweetness- after my first bite I told my husband we should have just ordered bao buns. We also ordered the scallion pancake, which I would skip next time. The sizzling spicy noodles with pork belly, however, were worth every penny and stellar. They weren't quite as spicy as I was expecting, but very fresh with nice thick noodles. I would love to have tried more menu items if time had permitted. The downsides: the place is VERY loud. Just conversation made it impossible to hear, but even louder music on top of that meant we couldn't have any sort of conversation. In fact this place would be far more home in NYC than Denver - not ina bad way. It was absolutely packed at 5pm on Sunday. We did get a seat - bar seat overlooking the window. . The staff is incredibly friendiy - though it's only counter service (hey they save me some tipping money). Now, onto the food--some winners and losers. The China Town dumplings, they were sheer perfection--crispy on the outside, with a savory filling that was perfectly seasoned. Easily a 5/5 for those! The scallion pancake was also a standout, offering crispy bites with a unique soy sauce that really brought out the flavor--solid 4/5. I also tried a trio of 3D Bao options. Braised pork belly was good but could have used more of that rich pork belly flavor--it leaned more towards shredded pork, so I'd give it a 3.0/5. The spicy chicken bao had nice heat and was tasty but didn't quite wow me, landing around a 3.5/5. This place is absolutely worth the hype. Recommendation? Get here early so you can snag a table before the crowds roll in. The space is small, so you'll want to allow for a wait just in case. Any of the noodle options are worth it, and I'd just recommend sharing across the board. They also have some specials that are worth trying! Next to Snooze, there is no sign but on the door - so it's an easy miss if you are walking by. This is a take on mostly Cantonese American food with a more modern vibe. You order at the counter and they deliver it to your table. There is also a sweet bar area with happy hours everyday from 2-5pm. I'm half Cantonese American so I want to love it but I don't know ... there is a part of me that thinks it's very very overpriced for what it is, but I'm happy there is a new modern Cantonese vibe vs your diggy federal blvd and Chinatown feel. They were at Avanti before and while I like the food - I don't know if I would go out of my way for this place. It's decent but nothing special and I was kind of underwhelmed. This is a very carb heavy place, so don't come if u are looking for a lighter meal but there are vegetarian options. The Goods... 1) I like the handmade dumplings and get a side of chili oil. 2) Always get a pot of Chrysanthemum tea but it comes in these really weird small cups you pray to your dead ancestors with ... 3) market greens are a must but FYI - they are always market price 4) always do a bun 5) the spicy chicken rice dish, needed a lot more of that ginger garlic sauce and I honestly would not get it again. LOVE makfam. The mala chicken wings are unreal, we've been hard pressed to find any that come close to as good. Service is always quick and staff are very friendly. Unique food that was missing something. When we arrived, we were met by the owner who was receptive, friendly and engaging. As we walked to our table, we were impressed with the eclectic decor, as it all blended delightfully. Our server was simple and seemed uncomfortable and out of place in a restaurant like MAKfam, or pretty much any restaurant. Serving wasn't the job she was designed for, but she was able to take our order and we received our food in a timely manner. She even upsold the wine as per instructed. We ordered quite a bit of food. We found the best choices were the Bao Buns trio and the Steak and Egg Jian Bing. The Pork Belly and Shitake Buns were flavorful but the Chicken was lacking. Also, it was a struggle to separate the doughy bao buns from the stainless steel taco trays. Fortunately, with a bit of awkward coaxing with our forks, they all came out as required. Maybe a piece of parchment paper could ease the execution of extracting the buns. The Jian Bing was a delightfully crispy pancake filled with fresh, crunchy and flavorful vegetables. The final dishes, which included Mala Wings and the Stir Fried Greens, both missed. We found that the wings didn't have much flavor and were a slightly dry. The toppings, which is where the flavor came from, were a bit more spicy than expected as the majority of the spices were all sitting on top of one chicken wing. The excess spice was partially my fault though. As I was chatting with my partner, I failed to notice the pile and should have spread the ingredients over the other wings before diving in. Or, the cook could have distributed the ingredients equally amongst the wings before plating. The Stir Fried Greens begged for more ingredients. The experience of eating them reminded me of eating flavorless, frozen, sauteed leafy vegetables when I was younger, back when I only ate them for their nutritional qualities. There was a great deal of effort in the menu and the ingredients were high end and most were fresh and flavorful. Yet again, there was something missing to take the food from good to great. Whether it was an ingredient or two or a lack of love from the kitchen, the foods just couldn't make it over the top. Maybe it was the music that killed the love. For some reason, the owners were playing self hate/self pity rap/hip hop music which seemed contentious opposed to the modern, warm visuals of the restaurant. Though played at a low level, it was somewhat uncomfortably annoying. Hip hop may be okay in a rougher setting or when you are a misguided, angst filled youth, but it just didn't fit the visual vibe of the restaurant or the warmth of the owner we encountered when we walked in. MAKfam has a great deal of potential. The owners and chef really have wonderful ideas, but from what we experienced, it just didn't work. I can't recommend MAKfam. Between the food, the server and the atmosphere, it rates much better than a 3, but definitely not a 4. read more

Total disclosure, if I could vote for 10 of 5 stars, I'd totally do it. Whoa. This place BLEW us away. Every. Single. Bite. My only redo would be not to order house white wine with this food. My bad. Grab a beer or opt for water instead. Ok, on to the amaze balls food. My partner and I came on a Saturday afternoon and shared several plates. This is, hands down, my suggestion to you. There is no better way to get more deliciousness into your mouth. I have zero criticisms to share here. I so appreciated the bold flavors, the unexpected flavor combinations and the variety of yummy options. We had Chinatown dumplings, pork and chicken bao buns, house pickles, and the scallion pancake sammie. I couldn't take my eyes off of their banana cream black sesame pie, so we added that and still took home an order of the salt and pepper chicken and rice plate (I won the rock, paper, scissors for what we had there, lol). Every last bite was so incredibly good. My palette was happily overwhelmed and I wish o color share a more nuanced review on the actual flavors - they delighted and surprised me.
