Ordered a Shrimp tempura Bento box with a side of edamame. only came with one small, greasy veggie roll, two pieces of veggie tempura and 4 small greasy shrimp tempura. they didn't even put the soy sauce cap on so my soy sauce was all over the place. summary, too expensive for poor quality. It's not the the best sushi but it is still yummy and gives you the fix you need if you are craving sushi but on a tight budget. I ordered delivery on door dash 2 or 3 times and I was never disappointed. My favorite rolle from them is the tiger roll. It has tuna salmon, cream cheese, cucumber inside, and avocado and ebi on top. The reason why I say its not the best is because the rice isnt the right amount of soft and the way the fish inside or onto do not mold together but fall apart instead is a bummer because the fish isnt bad. The fish is really soft and melts in my mouth like sushi should...but uf they would fix the issues I listed, they would definitely get higher rating. Just tighten up those rolls and use fresh soft rice. I would love to come ear here in person and partake in their angry hours, being that I only ordered delivery from here. They are always super fast with my food for delivery. read more

I like this place. I don't like that they're closed from 2-4, but their food is good, their prices are awesome, and the service has always been great. They have Angry Hour specials which include half price rolls, cheap apps, and super cheap drinks. Totally worth it to check it out for angry hour. Too bad it doesn't last very long (4-630 i think). read more

Great sushi for a great price. I've visited Maki Toki with my wife quite a few times over the past couple years. Their sushi is incredibly tasty, it's the only thing my wife and I order (besides miso, which is also good). Some of our favorites (we're not super adventurous with our sushi selections) are the spider roll, shrimp tempura roll, cali roll, 420 roll, and ludlow roll. If you are able to make their angry hour (4:30 - 7:00) Mon - Sat, you'll definitely be surprised on how small your bill will be even after ordering 4-5 rolls. Compared with a lot of the sushi places around, the sushi is just as good if not better while the prices are sometimes as little as half as much as competitors. read more

I really wanted to love this place; but after two separate attempts trying a variety of things, I don't think I'll go back. The service was good and the place looked clean, but for the money this place is terrible value. As many others have said, the rolls contain barely any fish and taste no better than HEB sushi. Also, there are way too many things fried on the menu. I don't mind a shrimp tempura here and there, but if I order a salmon/escolar/tuna roll and get a greasy, flavorless fried speck of fish mush inside greasy rice mush, I'm not happy. On both occasions, I left here with that heavy, gross full feeling and still craving some good sushi. I also have to wonder why they are cooking so many of the rolls... Is the fish in the rolls not fresh or high enough grade to be raw? For the money (about $30 for lunch for two) I'll definitely go somewhere else next time. read more

So my son's daycare is close by and I was stopping by yesterday after work to pick up some rolls for dinner. I've lived in Austin my whole life and have had sushi around town at lots of great places (as well as when travelling). I'm by no means a sushi expert but I know fresh, tasty sushi when I get it and the rolls at Maki Toki are not it :-( I read Yelp reviews before ordering so I was expecting pretty good food but what my husband and I got was not good at all. Got home 10 min later and plated the miso soup, beef bento box and 3 rolls. First the miso soup - eh was ok, not the best we've ever had. My husband had the bento box - he's had many, many bento boxes and they usually come with tempura veggies, some pickled veggies, Cali or some other rolls, the entrée with rice and maybe some fruit or salad. Maki Tori's bento was very plain - had no salad or fruit or pickled veggies. The meat was not savory, tender meat but rather 3 tough skewers of beef on sticks on top of dry rice. There were 2 small pieces of tempura veggies and 4 small, dry Cali rolls. My husband ate about 2-3 bites then threw his meal away. I had the 3 rolls - they were not inedible or fishy/bad tasting - they just had NO flavor at all. I mean they tasted like plastic or cardboard. I've had better rolls from HEB. They also used WAY too much cream cheese in too many of their rolls. I like cream cheese but geez it doesn't need to be an ingredient in every roll. Tasted like biting into a bagel with cream cheese :-( Needless to say I threw my food away too. I paid $44.00 for the 2 miso's, 3 rolls and bento and wish I could get a refund to be honest. I also am a little leery of a sushi restaurant that has no Japanese staff on hand. Not saying at all that non-Japanese can't make good sushi but all the best sushi restaurants we've visited usually do and Maki Toki does not. Perhaps this is why the food was not great. I'm sort of a regular here. Their Miso is the bomb and only $1.50. The sushi is way better than Sushi Zushi and way cheaper.

Had dinner there today and it was pretty good. Had the Crunchy Shrimp Roll (w/out jalapenos), Scuba Roll, Philadelphia Roll, egg rolls, and mochi ice cream. My favorite was the Crunchy Shrimp Roll and you really do need to try the ice cream..it's good stuff. It's close to my work and house so I'll def. be going back soon. read more

I don't really know where to start. I don't want to be rude I mean they are certainly trying. I always order the same thing every time I get sushi and have had it all over the United States. If I didn't order the food myself I would have thought I got the wrong thing. The fish...... Something was wrong with the fish. It had a texture of warm tofu. Or maybe really soft butter. It kind of just squished in your mouth. It was weird. The rice stuck to the plate so I had to pry it off with the chop sticks spatula style and pray that the roll stayed together on its short trip to my mouth. The saving grace was the fact that it was "Angry Hour" a name I find all too perfect for summing up the hour I spent there. If you are hungry go to the subway next door. Or the Wendy's. I know it's not sushi but that is not what you will get here either. read more

The wait staff was super duper nice and accommodating but the food is terrible.. The tempura batter was like fried chicken.. Unless you're into that.. I asked for a brown sauce for my tempura and it just tasted like soy sauce. The tempura also came with a mayo sauce but tasted like nothing but straight up mayo. Sushi bought at HEB for half the price would have been better than what I had here. The sushi is cheaply priced.. Here, you get what you pay for. It seems like it could be a cool place, I just wish the quality of the food was better. read more

I went about a month ago. Was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The tempura shrimp was limp. The tuna roll we had was more like a tuna mash roll instead. There was no texture to the fish. It was as if the roll was made up of scrap pieces. I'll probably give it another try in a month or two, but I'm not too optimistic... If you absolutely had to have sushi in walking distance, I'd say go for it, but if you are getting in a car anyways then there are many better options within 2-3 miles. read more

It was a late night during spring break and my sister, friend, and I decided to go here for a late night meal. We were quite surprised at the set up, service, and ambiance for a sushi place nestled in a "strip mall". The prices were great, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. I do not drink, so I can not comment on that aspect. I highly recommend this place for maybe a date, but not necessarily a place for young children. read more

We love love love this place. We frequent it weekly! They have great rolls and professional service. They take a bit of liberty in creating sushi rolls for the American/Texas taste with some baked so if you're a sushi snob or utter purist this place may not completely satisfy you. The meats are always tasty and fresh and the rolls are consistent and YUMMY! Reasonably priced rolls and appetizers. The lady who makes most of the rolls is the owner and I think a few of the ladies who serve there are her daughters so they have a great vested interest. Yeah, the owner, knows that when I walk in, with whatever I order I don't want scallions. Where else can you go that the chef knows you!? Great food and good atmosphere for lunch or dinner. read more

The waitress was super sweet and friendly but really didn't seem to know very much. the food was something I felt I got out of a frozen box at the grocery store. It was very greasy. I got the Bento box with fried chicken slices. on the up side the chicken slices were good and the little sushi I got were not bad but I have had better. Would for sure go some place else next time. I don't know how this place is in business went on a whim to try out and new sushi place for "angry hour" prices were reasonable but the sushi was just awful did not taste fresh at all I was very displeased with the quality of food ! My fiancee took one bite of his spider roll and was disgusted from there. The decor in the restaurant makes no sense they have some beautiful paintings on the wall but behind the sushi bar are a bunch of world of Warcraft dolls and merchandise. If it's a young white kid that runs the place you can tell whoever it is is an amateur will never be going back to this place. One positive thing I will say is the appetizers were edible the miso soup and veg spring roll. read more

Stopped in tonight for the first time and was promptly greeted at the door with a smile. Ordered the all you can eat and was wowed by the choices from apps to rolls and almost everything in between. Our glasses were never empty, nor were our plates or bellies for that matter. Even though it was our first time at Maki Toki, by the time we left we felt like regulars. Everything I tried I enjoyed, but I especially suggest trying the Some Like It Hot Roll (thanks for suggesting it Kosi). I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the price was outstanding. My husband and I ate here last night and were not impressed. The service was slow and the atmosphere was nothing special. The miso soup was pretty good, but the sushi was below par. Prices were average for sushi, but for the quality, they were much too high. Will not be going back. read more

Don't eat the sushi here. Once you start, it's only a matter of time before you'll fall into coma full of tasty sushi. The wait staff, with their thorough knowledge of the menu and good suggestions, should really think to inform new customers. read more
