They now have a location in Royal Lane/I-35! Yay! Still a great place to eat. I can never get enough of Maki Boy! I will always recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. They also have a VIP membership card if you are a frequent visitor. You can use it to buy yourself a free meal if you have accumulated enough "money" on the card. All the food you order is great! Bumping this up as not only is it still very consistent and decently priced (though it did see a $1 increase) but I forgot to mention the variety in the nigiri combo (9 different pieces) is a VERY welcomed choice whereas other places offer at most 4, or 6 if you're lucky, of the more common varieties e.g. salmon, yellowtail, tuna, and eel. I've had better at other places. The free sides were very tasty even though the presentation was kind of off. Price -The prices were very affordable for the sushi and entrees. Entrees ranged from 5-10 dollars. 6 pc sushi 5-8. 12 pc sushi 7-11. Environment -The restaurant is small and makes for a somewhat intimate environment. It seats about 40 people including the bar. This place is absolutely amazing. It's a very cozy restaurant, with a very homey environment. The side dishes are very delicious, and you can get as much as you want! I ordered the daily bento special and the spicy octopus roll. The octopus roll was very delicious, and not over-sauced. My bento box consisted of a cup of rice, two cheese mussels, fried fish, shrimp tempera, and four pieces of sushi. Every element of the bento was amazing! The fish on the sushi tasted very fresh. They forgot my chicken, but handled it well and even gave me more than they were supposed to. I would definitely come to this place again, since the food is affordable and the service and style of the restaurant is amazing! This isn't a Michelin restaurant nor do they claim to be. It's located in a strange looking shopping strip and next to Cici's Pizza (hmm..strange). Also, you don't order at your table. Rather you take your order to the counter (even more strange). Don't let this fool you about what this place has to offer. I order a bunch of rolls with my buddies to share and everything came out pretty good. There were no misses with our food. I also like how Maki Boy encourage you to buy more. Other than the fact that it's sushi and other assorted Asian dishes, this place totally reminds me of the small family-owned restaurants my family ate at when I was a kid. Of course that was before Irving was overrun by chain restaurants and the huge plates of quality-controlled mediocrity they serve up. Cozy little location in a strip center on Beltline. The menu is mostly Japanese, with a couple of Korean side trips, and I saw some kim chee on the small complimentary garnish bar. Could do without the techno dance soundtrack, but you get used to it. Great hole in the wall. Sushi is good and affordable but in a horrible location and with very limited seating space. Great for takeout but bring a driver so they can loop around while you pickup. We came in and were surprised it was pretty busy. So we had high hopes. It was pretty cheap for sushi so unfortunately, the quality was subpar. I love a good sashimi salad and saw that they had one, so I ordered it. But only took a bite because the sauce was just a type of hot sauce with sesame oil. Very disappointing. Great for "cheap" sushi. Very friendly staff and atmosphere inside. The music they play is always spot on from early 2000's hip hop to catchy songs you haven't heard of since 2008. They have lights in the restaurant so it's very adorable. Unlimited side dishes (amazing sauced broccoli) I always get either the volcano or maki monster. Soo filling. The quality is good to great, again you get what you pay for so don't expect something to knock you out of the ballpark. They have Japanese and Korean choices for food. Also you get a small plate that you can fill up with pickled items you usually get with a meal at a Korean restaurant. Food is ordered at the counter and brought to you. But the cashier/hostess was as welcoming, and simply giving me a plate she failed to point out the side dish area (what is was for). As for the food, I ordered the mini spicy seafood ramen special which came with 10 pieces of maki sushi for 10 dollars. What was disappointing was that my seafood ramen only had one shrimp and an empty mussel shell. I was told it was suppose to come with shrimp, mussels, and crawfish.
