My daughter and I decided to be a little adventurous and headed to Coppell, Texas, about seven miles from home. Since we were craving ramen, we stumbled upon Rakkan Ramen, and I'm glad we did! The restaurant is located in a very swanky and beautiful area. The inside is elegant, well organized, spotless, and so clean you almost feel guilty leaving footprints. As luck would have it, we accidentally entered through the rear entrance and confidently walked right up to the counter as if we knew exactly what we were doing. We were warmly greeted by Ms. Emily and Ms. Jaime, who were both serving as hostess and waitress. Emily escorted us to a comfortable booth and quickly brought us glasses of water, making us feel right at home. We started with the five-piece Chicken Karaage served with arugula and a slice of lemon for $9.50. The chicken was wonderfully crispy, which I really enjoyed. I squeezed that lemon over every piece, hoping for a little extra magic. While the texture was excellent, I thought the chicken itself could have used a bit more seasoning. For our main course, my daughter ordered the Quartz Ramen with chicken and a boiled egg. The broth was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor, with fresh vegetables that made every bite enjoyable. I ordered the Garnet Ramen, which was just as delicious, with flavorful broth, chicken, vegetables, and a boiled egg. Both bowls were $17, and while they were absolutely tasty, I couldn't help but wish they had been a little more generous with the noodles. I guess they wanted to leave us wanting more! Overall, this place is truly awesome, and you can bet I'll be back--even if I have to go by myself! One little heads-up: finding a parking spot might test your patience, but the walk gives you a chance to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, so it's not a bad trade-off. Stopped by after partaking an orchestra event, as it wasn't too busy. We ordered the spicy cucumbers and two trays of gyozas. They were so delicious! I got the Sushi Flight that has smoked salmon, salmon, scallop and shrimp and it was amazing! My family ordered their ramen and said it tasted pretty well. The only con was that the server didn't set down any of our food. She would hand it to us as if it was our duty to place it down even when she had the space. What a great find! We were in Coppell after a sporting event and looking for a place to have a nice lunch on a cold day. We found this delicious ramen restaurant in an up-and-coming shopping and restraurant area of the city. We were impressed with the variety on the menu. There is a great selection of appetizers (we sampled the gyoza) and delicious options for ramen. Each ramen dish is well thought-out and described. I had the "Garnet" with chicken. It was made with a vegetable broth that was deeply seasoned with miso - very flavorful. The combination of veg and toppings (especially the crunchy fried onions) gave it great texture. For dessert, we were excited to try their mochi ice cream. We were having a difficult time deciding so the server suggested one of each flavor (mango and strawberry). The ramen was alright. The noodle texture was ok, the chasu pieces were alright, but kind of small, and the eggs were a little cold. The noodles were ok. I got the thick noodles, but I think I would have liked the thin noodles more. I got the spicy version of a soup, but it wasn't too spicy. I think the soup could have had more flavor. The staff lacked in clearing and cleaning the table our visit. The sushi rice would crumble upon trying to pick up the sushi, making it very difficult to eat. Solid ramen spot tucked in a nice little plaza with a park and lake out back, which adds a surprising amount of chill to a bowl of ramen. Inside's got good energy, service was friendly. Tried the spicy Quartz ramen and was honestly impressed for a veggie-based broth. Rich, flavorful, and didn't taste like it was missing anything. The spice level was more gentle nudge than spicy slap. The noodles had a nice chew, and the toppings were solid, though I do wish the chashu was a bit thicker. Also had the fried gyoza which were VERY crispy, clearly deep-fried, possibly twice just for good measure. Would I return just for those? Probably not, but I wouldn't be mad about it either. My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant multiple times, we absolutely love it! We always get the same two dishes: spicy garnet and spicy quartz. We'll try different appetizers every now and then but the two ramens are always a constant. We recently discovered that you can also DoorDash this location and we were EXCITED! The first time was a great experience, packaged nicely and it tasted great as per usual. The second, and last, wasn't the best experience AT FIRST, as we believe our order got mixed up with someone else's; missing ramen, ramen we received was not one of ours (we would know, we order the same two every time!) HOWEVER, Sean, the owner of this branch, completely went out of his way to deliver it to our home instead due to DoorDash being unable to redeliver. We were so taken back as we've never experienced that type of offer before. Meeting Sean was such a delight, as he had such positive energy and wanted to make it right for us. We were already loyal to this spot before, but Sean's excellent service will continue to have us back. Although the ramen did not use traditional meat broth, the flavor is really good! We got a couple of appetizers! And I ordered a spicy Quartz ramen for myself. All the food was pretty good and well-flavored! They have the spicy paste on the side too where you can adjust more spice in your ramen. I do wish the chasu can be a bit thicker though. This RAKKAn Ramen is in the Coppell area, situated in a nice plaza with a park & Cypress Waters Trail behind it. We just arrived in Dallas and were looking for a quick-ish and comforting bite to get as our first meal. After a quick Yelp search, we found this spot that was kinda on our way to McKinney (our main destination). A little Northeast of the airport, it wasn't too hard to find and get parking here in the plaza. We came pretty early so it was empty and we were seated pretty quickly. We saw they had the Kyoto Match IPA (one of my favs), so we each ordered one. We lucked out because they were actually some of the last ones they had in stock. My friend and I each got the Pearl Ramen, which has vegetable broth, grilled pork, onion, bamboo shoots, seasoned egg, and RAKKAN noodles. We were both in between this and the Amber Ramen but heard the Pearl was lighter, so we opted for that. The food came out at lightning speed, which we both were thankful for, since we were starving after our trip, and the food was pretty good. It isn't the best ramen I've had, but the flavors were there and the noodles were a great consistency. The matcha IPA and ramen were a great combo. There was a lot of seating inside and it would've even been nice to enjoy the meal outside as it wasn't too hot this day. I would've loved if they raised the little "garage" door so we could eat inside but also technically enjoy the weather outdoors. Not sure if they're able to do that but it would've been a nice touch. The location of this restaurant is great. Parking can get tricky but lots of street parking is available. Evenings and weekends can get busy. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere. Service was fast and efficient. Food arrived within a few minutes of ordering. We ordered a couple of appetizers along with a rice bowl & the spicy quartz ramen bowl. The flavors were average and the spice levels were not up to the mark. Overall, food receives only 3 stars. There are definitely better places for really good ramen. My two biggest gripes were that the egg in the ramen was not prepared properly and they skimped on the cut of meat so bad. It seemed like low quality pork as well as an extremely thin slice. Disclaimer: I ordered via DoorDash First time trying Rakkan Ramen and I was excited to finally experience their food. I totally appreciate that this restaurant offers so many vegetarian options! It is difficult finding ramen that is not pork based. I recently had dental surgery, so I say that I am on a geriatric diet, meaning soft foods. When I saw Rakkan as an option on DD, I knew it was the right time to try it. I ordered the vegan bun, veggie gyoza and Vegan Garnet ramen. I must confess, I am a mushroom fanatic. I could eat mushrooms for every meal and I have never met one that I didn't like. The vegan bun was full of umami mushrooms, which were delicious. Unfortunately, the bun was falling apart and I had to eat it with a fork. The bun was mushy- bummer. The veggie gyozas were tasty, but the best part was the dip for them. I have never had gyoza sauce that was that tasty-- I could drink the stuff! The ramen... what a disappointment. I really thought that since it contained the same mushrooms as the bun, that it would be delicious. Sadly, it was boring and lacked so much flavor. Plus, the serving was shockingly small for the high price. With tax and tip, the meal was $39. Thirty nine dollars for one person! I mean, at a fine dining establishment I would expect this. I've eaten a lot of ramen and am surprised by how terrible it was and even more so that it's so well reviewed. My partner and I ordered the Pearl & Quartz ramen. The Pearl just tasted like a store bought clear soup. The Quartz was unbalanced, lacking in depth of flavor and watery instead of creamy like it was advertised - the toppings also didn't make sense. The eggs were hard boiled in both. The chili oil offered on the table is overpowered with sesame oil and doesn't do the ramen any favors. The service was also lacking as the hosts/servers were not the most attentive. I had to go find someone so we could get our check to leave and we never got napkins. The only thing going for this place is the location, as it's tucked in The Sound which is a lovely walkable area in Cypress Waters. Do not let the pictures and positive reviews fool you!! There is no care being taken to provide a good experience or even decent food. Save your money and time and go to a worthy ramen spot. Charging nearly $20 per bowl of whatever it is they're serving and trying to pass off as ramen should be considered theft. Anyone giving a positive review needs to expand their palate and raise their standards. read more

After reading thru all the reviews, I wasn't really sure what to expect... bland... salty... warm, not hot... bad service... etc. etc. etc. But in general I was pleased with my ramen choice: Spicy Garnet (miso) w/pork. The spice level was fine, not too salty, but perhaps a little strong on the garlic which stayed with me for a long time! I've had double black garlic ramen elsewhere that included nearly ten whole roasted garlic cloves that didn't stick with me afterwards like this one! I am assuming since the broths (even in the non-vegan options) are plant / vegetable based, that is what may make some question the taste compared to other places. If I had to choose between these quickly-made plant-based broths and those with the slow-cooked bones / meat, I'd choose the latter. But for those needing a good, vegan option these definitely fit the bill. Personally (without going into detail!) my digestive system seems to favor the meat-based broths, too! Service from Bella was fantastic. Atmosphere is nice with a potential view of the small lake depending on where you're seated. Outdoor dining is also an option. I'd return, mostly because it's the best local (to Irving) option I've found for ramen. I think better options exist elsewhere around DFW. read more

My partner and I decided to have dinner here after visiting the Light Park in Arlington. We arrived around 9 and were able to walk right in. We were greeted by a nice lady who took us to a table in the back near the windows. The place is cozy with several standard table tops, booths and a small counter type area as well. Wood decor throughout and the coolest Japanese Whiskey display wall. A few minutes after being seated, another friendly lady came to take our order. For starters, we ordered beef gyoza, one chicken bao bun, one pork bao bun and warm Brussels sprout salad. ALL of the apps were outstanding! Fresh, flavorful and perfect portions. We also order a whisky highball and vodka hibiscus highball which were both perfectly balanced. For entrees, I ordered the Spicy Garnet Ramen sub bamboo shoots for corn and omit the boiled egg. My partner ordered the Spicy Quartz sub bamboo shoots for corn. The ramen was good..great size, temperature and very fresh. However, it was a bit lacking in flavor department and seemed to be missing that deep umami flavor. However, all in all, I'll definitely visit Rakkan again! read more

Rakkan ramen is frakkan good!!! Wow, I have never ever had plant base ramen soup base that has as much flavor as Rakken! I have had Tonkotsu ramen in Fukuoka, everywhere in Japan, Ippudo, Ichiran, and bunch in California and I have to say, wow, I thought a plant base broth ramen would be a compromise on the taste for healthy but boy was I wrong, and boy was I glad I was wrong! I got the Garnet Ramen, which was their miso base. Their broth has so much umami and flavor that I thought I was eating a Tonkotsu base without the fat! The broth is so rich and while I was eating, I really couldn't believe it's not bone based! Their ramen is also cooked al dente, so good, and their pork chasu is so delicious! Perfectly charred and the cut is thick enough for that satisfying bites! They gave plenty of bamboo and their chili oil paste is pretty spicy! I also got their combo with pork gyoza. They deep fried their gyoza here, which I wish they didnt, but it was delicious! Overall, if you're in Dallas, YOU HAVE to check them out! Going to a veggie/vegan broth ramen place with a bunch of carnivores was a bit intimidating but thankfully we were all pleasantly surprised by the amount of flavor packed into the food here! I really appreciated that the broth has plenty of flavor but didn't feel overly greasy or heavy like some tonkotsu broths are. The noodle and charsiu textures were also good. Takoyaki was well seasoned and had a great texture. Interior decor was modern and tasteful and I love that it's located in a nicer area of Coppell next to a small pond and other restaurants / walking areas. Our server was friendly and efficient. When we heard about a new ramen shop opening nearby, we had to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised. The interior was very sleek with plenty of tables and high chair seating. We called ahead to reserve for a large group and the host was very accommodating. It seemed like they were still working out the process and service was a bit hectic but the servers were very nice. The selection of food was very good with many choices; for ramen, they have 5 broths to choose from. The combo deal is a great to pair a ramen with an additional dish. For appetizers we got the brussels sprouts salad, pork gyoza, and spicy tuna bowl. The brussels sprouts was the highlight, fried perfectly and paired with two delicious dressings. The tuna bowl was ok, a bit too salty for my liking without much flavors. For ramen, we ordered the amber, pearl & garnet broths. The amber and pearl were fantastic; the soup was smooth and rich. We pretty much finished the entire bowl. The garnet was miso based and slightly on the saltier side. The pork was over cooked but they were very generous with the sides portions (lots of garlic, scallion & bamboo shoots). The noodle was very good, very tender and flavorful. Overall the ramens were prepped very well. This is definitely one of the better ramen spots and we would come back! Also, it's right by North Lake so the location is on point. The service was fantastic as well, our hostess walked us through the menu when we were seated. She let us know, to my surprise, that the ramen broth was indeed vegan/veggie friendly.
