Chicken is literally mall Chinese.
Alyna M.

Expect Aesthetics- nothing more. Drinks: Pu Lae Pineapple had no flavor- was incredibly watered down to the point it didn't even taste like pineapple juice. Mystiny was better, but just an average lychee martini. Crispy garlic chicken is like mall Chinese chicken. The short rib in hot stone was very tough, not as you would expect it to be if braised. Was physically difficult to tear it apart. Left the majority behind. Drunken noodles was average but really overfilled with vegetables. The best thing here was the curry carnival. If I come back here it would be for ambiance only.

Makiin has a beautiful atmosphere and would be a great spot for a girls' lunch or date night. The host and our server were both friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially given the price point. The biggest disappointment was the Soft Shell Crab Papaya Salad, which costs $23. The menu photo clearly shows a fried soft shell crab, but our dish arrived without any visible crab at all. When I asked our server about it, I was told that the small fried bits sprinkled on top were the crab. They tasted more like dried shrimp than soft shell crab, which was confusing and disappointing considering how the dish was presented on the menu. We also ordered the Thai High Tea and expected the beautiful mango rose shown in the menu photos. Instead, it came with only a few tiny pieces of mango, which again did not match the menu images. Overall, I left feeling disappointed by the difference between expectation and reality. While the ambiance and service were great, the food and presentation did not justify the prices or align with what was advertised on the menu.

Went to MaKiin on a Sunday for their AYCE Thai food and I was pretty disappointed. The AYCE options really is just appetizers and all of the appetizers are just so cold. Not a single of them are hot even if they're on a warming plate which is jarring cause I'm sure if they were hot some dishes could be very good, but eating them cold just wasn't it for me. I will say the corn nuggets were probably my favorite but again I hated that it was cold. You're allowed one entree in the classic menu only (5 options). Since there was 4 of us we each ordered a different 1 to share. The fried rice is the exact same fried rice on the buffet so I recommend you don't order that. All of the entrees were very bland for Thai food. They don't even ask you for a spice level. Drunken noodles are usually my favorite but I was very disappointed. The fried chicken was probably the best thing on the menu, but doesn't really give off Thai food. Service was ok. Felt like it was hard to get them to refill the water. They forgot my drink order and I asked about it towards the end, and they were honest saying they forgot and brought it out free of charge which was very nice of them for admitting fault and being honest. Drink was very pretty and good. Overall the food just wasn't good and I won't be coming back.

An upscale Thai location. Many people dressed up but it didn't appear required. Everything seemed to be elevated in presentation and solid tasting all around. Minor recommendations but overall highly recommend - Roti: 3 different dipping sauces with little elephant holders is very cute - Cones: Tiny bites that were tasty - Drinks: presented in a diamond glass, overall tasty - Phu Kat & *** - has a lemon shot you can add - Garlic fried chicken - one of the more standard presentations but tasty and crunchy - Khoi soi - spicy kick, tasty overall, pour the sauce with a little elephant - Whole fried fish: well fried, just felt like a sauce would elevate this since it can be much - Icecream: dry ice to make it steaming - enjoyed the icecream flavor - Mango sticky rice: milder sweetness but the fruits were not sweet and other than the presentation didn't find this that great Inside has lots of photo opportunities including the bathroom area. Overall solid food with aesthetic presentation from their cutlery to their dishware. Service was friendly. Very solid food option spot that has a more elegant feel to it. Food: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5

We went here for our anniversary dinner on Thursday so that we can watch their Thai show. The decor is beautiful outside, the dining area, bar, the way to the bathroom, and also the bathroom. We were given hot towels to wash our hands at our table. Their menu is on the tablets that they bring to you. Since it was happy hour until 6:30, we ordered appetizers (corn fritters and papaya salad) and cocktails (hua hin mango, mystiny, and nakorn kopi). We also ordered Esan pork ribs, crispy garlic chicken (similar to General Tso's), Majestic Ocean Medley, and mango sticky rice. They also provided a mini-pandan cake to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was good and we got to enjoy that Thai dances during our meal. I highly recommend this upscale restaurant.

Loved it here! I have been IG stalking it for quite sometime and finally gathered the crew to make it happen to celebrate a birthday. Ryan was great and then Lynn came along when things got busy to help out so we never felt neglected! This was an amazing experience. We went for happy hour which was not busy at all for a Friday. But as the night got later, the crowd grew. Fun fact the art here is from Thailand. The owner had to get permission to be able to display it here. It was so beautiful. The drinks! They have there own spin on some fan favorites and some have special presentations. The food. Nothing tasted bad. I loved everything. We left full as a tick.

Delicious food, wonderful service by Ronaldo and romantic ambience!!! Great music and delicious antique rice! First time here and highly recommend! Easy reservation process! Beautiful, clean bathrooms! Loved the cocktails and the happy hour special!! They take pics of you and frame them and you can buy the keepsake for $20. Thank you

Had a great overall lunchtime and couldn't ask for any better! Makiin offers a wide range of Thai cuisine dishes that includes small dishes in a buffet format. Each customer is able to select one entree which was a pleasant surprise to experience a true fulfillment. The food tasted clean, fresh, and hot out of the kitchen. The buffet was styled and presented warmly and appealing. The service was caring, mindful, and presented when needed. The interior is modernly decorated with luxury felt like objects from table, chairs, and utensils. Highly recommend to try at least once for Thai cuisine lovers. I will say the price is quite high.

The buffet option is great. You get to try a little of everything. The waiter was amazing , he was funny, polite and patient highly recommend Holman. The manager Andy was so great. Customers Service is 10/10. The decor is very unique. Love it. Highly recommend!!!

Thai Basil Chicken - delicious!

Hip, fun Thai restaurant in the Upper Kirby area. Light crowd so service was very attentive. The food presentation was creative and fun and ultimately delicious. My only critique would be their wine presentation. Not a big offering, more cocktails than wine selections. And very disappointing was their wine pour. They use a carafe system to measure wine for the pour and unlike many similar restaurants, they filled the carafe to about ¾ resulting in a much smaller pour than I normally experience with carafe pours. Their wine glasses were beautiful however, which for us wine snobs is important. Overall I recommend. I will visit again and will attempt to advocate for a more generous pour.

Second time at MaKiin and I just keep loving it! The service, ambiance and food is top notch. If you want elevated Thai food whether it's a family outing or date night, this is the place to be. I'm not local anymore and can confirm it's got an edge above other Thai restaurants even the ones in LA!

November 29, 2025 Drove in from Galveston JUST to get the cotton candy tree dessert!! But the menu was so enticing that we stayed for lunch. The attention to detail in EVERYTHING from decor to utensils was spot on. We had chicken fried rice, these sautéed potatoes w/carrots and onions shaped like cones, Thai basil chicken with serrano peppers.... ALL OF IT was so flavorful and delicious. Enjoyed it. The pink cotton candy tree dessert was so fun. It's a chocolate tree trunk with fresh fruit, it's too cute My cocktail was spiced rum with espresso, tasty and cloudy from dry ice Highly recommend this restaurant

On our continued hunt for the perfect brunch buffet, we stopped in to check this place out. It was giving VIP from the start with the red carpet and grand door. The atmosphere is elaborate in the most amazing way. Gold and red cover the interior with so much attention to detail. Restrooms are clean and have individual towels to dry hands. They even had a utensil holder in the shape of a dragon to match the decor. We opted to order à la carte: Apps: crab bites and curry flight w/roti Entrees: Drunken noodles and Crispy Garlic chicken. I don't like spicy food and I could tolerate the heat. Everything was made fresh to order and the curries were amazing. So much so, that we drizzled them on both entrees. Make sure to make a reservation for groups and weekends. Surprisingly, they have a Sunday brunch buffet option w/ champagne for $50. Enter freely, they've been approved

We had to order take out on a Friday night because it was 10 mins before closing (9pm on Fridays) and they processed the order incredibly fast. All tables were full when we picked up so I'm sure busy nights will be a bit of a wait to get in. We asked for "medium" spice but the receipt had been defaulted to "mild" thank god. It was still a decent amount of spice and any more I would have probably been sweating like crazy. So I would recommend starting off with mild and go from there unless you are a glutton for punishing spice. Their mild seems to be more like medium / hot at an Americanized Thai joint. Pad Kee Mow with chopped chicken was delicious. Fresh crunchy green beans and bell peppers, onions and tomatoes perfectly cooked with the perfect spicy basil sauce. Noodles all had sauce on them. Large serving size and great price. We also got papaya salad which was just right and nice spice. I wish I could come here often and try everything else on the menu.

There's a sign-in sheet. While we waited, we took a look at their two-aisle mini store, which is in the same room as the restaurant. We bought some interesting snacks and looked at the menus until we were messaged. Once we sat down, we shared fried tofu and chive cakes. They were amazing. The fried tofu was evenly crispy with a soft, piping-hot fluffy inside. (The sauce doesn't contain any fish sauce, since one of us was vegetarian.) The chive cakes were both crispy and mochi-like. I had the Thai iced tea and pompano fish. The staff scared us about the spice level, so we all started off with mild and a small variety of chili sauce, oil, and powder on the side. The ones who changed their minds to mild actually used them. So now we know that if you like medium spicy, go with the second-lowest level. I was fine with mild and ate my whole fish. Loved it. Our waitress was quick, but the kitchen... not so much. We all ended up eating at different times because we didn't want anyone's dishes to get too cold while waiting for the rest to come to the table. By the time my dish came, the first two main dishes were already finished (rice and noodle-based), and the third dish (curry) had already been at the table for a while. I also noticed another table that sat after us got all of their dishes (noodles and rice) before my dish came. The food timing needs some work. If you want a quick meal, I think their rice and noodles are the fastest. But the pompano fish was amazing. If you know how to debone a fish or eat one with bones, get this dish. There's free parking out front and in the grassy lot next to it.

For drinks, I got the Mekhong Mojito and it was sweet and refreshing! For appetizers, we got the crispy squid and the crispy wonton- crispy squid was good but if you had to choose between the two, get the crispy wonton! As for the entree, I ordered the Khao Soi with shrimp and my friend ordered the spicy red snapper. The curry broth with coconut milk was fragrant and with the toppings that came on the side (i.e. lime, onions/shallots, mustard greens, etc) enhanced the dish. The flat egg noodles were bouncy and the shrimp was solid. If you're stuck between choosing a curry dish and a noodle dish, get the best of both worlds and order the Khao Soi! As for my friend's spicy red snapper, I tried a bite and the spices/texture in the dish complimented the fish very well. For dessert, we ordered the classic Mango Sticky Rice! We tried their appetizers including Salmon Rolls (flavorfully packed with cream cheese, salmon, and spinach in a crispy shell and loving that actually spicy mayo on the side), Thai Style Jerky (deep fried and sun dried marinated pork and beef served with sticky rice rolls and side spicy tamarind sauce, a bit too dry/chewy), Fried Tofu (perfect little triangles, so good by itself or with the side sweet and sour sauce with crushed peanuts), Chive Pancake (deep fried and chive packed triangles with a slight chew to it, great by itself or with it's spicy soy sauce companion). As for the mains, the Spicy Seafood Fried Rice is a good value as it was loaded with all sort of fruits of the sea (shrimp, squid, and mussel), with prominent lemongrass and kaffir lime aroma, but a bit wet or moist for a fried rice dish, the Crabmeat Omelet is served with a nice portion of lump crabmeat where you can taste the flavor of the seafood and add sriracha to liking, and the Beef Pad See Ew is made appetizing with wok charred flat rice noodles along with a savory blend of soy sauce, Chinese broccoli and egg. The portion size is alright and filling for a moderately hungry individual, though it would've been even better a tad bigger for those coming in hangry. I'll be back for more when I'm craving some modern Thai food and especially want to try their curry dishes. Service was quick and efficient, attentive to refills on drinks and friendly!

It could easily reach that level. Our waitress, Ann, was incredibly kind, soft spoken, and welcoming. My friend Sherita suggested this restaurant after we left a Yelp office hour, and I'm so glad she did because it introduced me to something I never knew I needed: the salmon mango fried rice. It was absolutely amazing. I originally planned to take some home for my son to try, but it was so delicious that I finished every bite in one sitting. Sherita had visited earlier in the week and tonight shared that she arrived; right before I walked in which was 30 minutes before closing time, Jackie told her to hurry up and order, even though she already knew exactly what she wanted and didn't even need a menu. Jackie response was unprofessional and didn't even wait till the table guest got to the table, which was less than seconds since we all arrive at the same time, and left the same place. During our visit, Jackie never brought us water. A couple who was seated after us received water before we did. It took over 10 minutes for us to get water. Ann took great care of us, but anytime we wanted a refill, we had to ask. At one point my glass was completely empty. I noticed Jackie refilling the water glasses for a table of six, so I managed to get his attention. He looked directly at me, scanned the room, then stomped away all fast without acknowledging my request. Instead, he told Ann that we wanted water, and she graciously brought it over. Even at the end of our meal, Jackie stood behind the register while my friends waited to pay, yet another employee ended up taking their payment. His overall energy felt very cold and unwelcoming. My friend even joked that it was probably for the best that he didn't refill my water because of the energy he was carrying. As someone who believes water absorbs energy, I honestly agreed. I'm grateful Ann was the one who served us with such kindness. The restaurant itself has such a peaceful, zen atmosphere. The greenery outside and the warm lighting inside create a cozy neighborhood spot that I truly want to love and revisit with my son. Thank you , Sherita for introducing me and Aaliyah to this hidden gem. I completely understand why you visited twice in one week. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu, and hopefully next time the hospitality matches the quality of the food.
