I really enjoyed the ambiance here. It seems like they would have a lot of live music events or like a lounge. There's a bar in the middle and two sides of seating. There's service was also nice. The aesthetic of the food makes for good photos. The bathroom is even a bit upscale as they have wash cloths for drying of hands. For Houston restaurant week I tried the chicken coconut curry which had a strong sour flavor with coconut. It wasn't what I was expecting but it was still good. The second item I tried was the drunken adventure which is basically drunken noodles. It was so colorful and flavorful. You could taste the basil, a kick of spice, and savory noodles. For dessert I tried the dessert wonderland. Which was a cotton candy dark chocolate raspberry tree. It had a piece of ice cream and spongy cake as moss. This made for a nice photo. Although, I could not finish it. It is definitely a must share item. The purple rice with the curry sauce and salmon was so tasty. You are able to tell them how you want the salmon cooked. The other desert I tried was the coconut fantasy ice cream. If you love coconut you will love this. It makes for a good video with the dry ice. The taste is very much coconut forward with some tropical flavors from the jelly on the bottom. It was a bit weird that I was served backwards, I received my dessert before my appetizer and entrees. I also requested that I didn't get onions in my entree but received red onions anyways. Overall, this place is tasty and has a nice ambiance with great aesthetics visually.

Tried this place for the first time for HRW 2026 and overall had a good experience. Parking was a bit on the complicated side. Valet is optional, and there was supposedly underground parking under the Hanover but street parking is your best bet. The atmosphere and service were pleasant and comfortable. Our reservation was at 7pm on a Thursday and at no point during our 2 hour dining experience did the restaurant fill up. Music and lighting definitely set the mood. Food was good as well, but not amazing. Most dishes are fusions of some sort, and they didn't necessarily make sense together. For instance, the salmon dish I had came with a curry base... Not something I was mad at, but also not something that made sense on my palate. No dish knocked my socks off other than the Coconut ice cream dessert!! Drink menu is very diverse! I didn't love any of them though and sadly they had no mango puree for the beverage I chose :( Not sure if I will return to dine here, but if it's on your To Try list, it's worth a try.

Ambiance: Upscale Thai restaurant with a neon & magical theme going on. The plating is absolutely beautiful and creative! If you're looking for a unique dining experience, MaKiin is it. Perfect spot for a date night, birthday, celebration, or artsy evening. The cocktails and mocktails are flavorful with unique ingredients. Love the long stem glassware! I highly recommend the Curry Carnival appetizer. My friends loved the salmon and beef ribs. The desserts are a must order - with every dish being decadent and beautifully displayed. Parking (self & valet) onsite. You can also do street or paid parking at the shops across the street. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Clean and nice bathrooms. MaKiin is a spot I will be taking friends & family to when I want to impress them with Houston cuisine! Fun, whimsical, delicious.

Since my initial review I've been here twice and had a great experience both times. Their food is consistent and delicious. Many of their items don't automatically come with spice. I have never tried to customize spice levels here. The beef short ribs in stone dish has been my favorite so far, but at $44 it is a very steep price if you choose tofu instead of beef. Their electronic menu with photos and comments on what can be made vegetarian/vegan is a great idea. I wish more upscale restaurants did this. You can park across the street at the lot for River oaks shopping center garage. It is free for two hours, don't forget to scan to pay.

Came here to try the HRW menu. The Food Silken Calamari Soirée 8/10 Crispy, tender and flavorful. I wish it had more tobiko caviar and a little more yolk dust. Royal Pad Thai lobster - 7/10 Presentation is so nice and I like that you can add the chilis and peanuts on your own. They only give you half of a lobster tail. It's was a little on the sweet side so I asked for lime to cut the sweetness. ESan Pork Rib (GF) 6/10 Ribs were tender, sweet and spicy...tasty. Per dining companion, nothing else on the plate was appetizing. The carrot was not seasoned and hard to cut and the Bok choy leaves were over cooked and the stock was undercooked. Coconut Ice Cream Fantasy (GF) (VG on request) 10/10 Presentation - was very cool. Dining companion said the ice cream was yummy. Zesty Mango Sticky Rice (GF) (VG on request) - 8/10 rice was warm and sticky, mango was sweet with a touch of tartness, I wish there was either a little more coconut milk or more coconut ice cream it needed a little more moisture. Service was nice and friendly and answered all my questions. Service could have been a little more attentive. Dress Code Below were notes about dress code. Dress Code: Upscale casual attire is required. We kindly ask that guests avoid excessively revealing clothing, athletic wear, flip-flops, and beachwear. Smart and elegant dress is encouraged to complement the dining experience at MaKiin. This is what I saw, casual shorts, T-shirts, baseball caps, sweatshirt, and other not upscale casual attire. Parking They tell you can park in front, valet, street parking or retail parking. All spots are numbered, don't park in Wells Fargo parking or anything marked valet. You drive down and any number spot that is not marked by signage is open for retail parking. Look for the glass doors and take stairs or elevator to street level (1). Take a left to the restaurant. This place can be for a date night or family celebrations.

Overall, it was a nice upscale restaurant, but it feels like more energy is spent on being flashy and creating the appearance of fine dining than on refining the food further. I went for the first time with a group for restaurant week dinner. The tableware and drink glasses were all very nice, and the service was very friendly and helpful. The drinks were fun and uniquely presented, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and calm. I have celiac disease (gluten-free) and am vegetarian, and they were able to accommodate multiple options, which I really appreciated. For the food and drinks: - Nakorn Kopi: Their version of an espresso martini, with a fun dry ice cloud around the drink. It was pretty espresso-forward and not too sweet -- overall enjoyable! - Tom kha with tofu: Pretty good. I particularly enjoyed the seasonal mushrooms, and the broth was adequately sour. It was difficult to put a finger on, but it was missing some of the richness and depth of flavor of other tom kha I've had, perhaps related to the chili components or something else. - Drunken noodles with tofu: Pretty delicious, with well-cooked vegetables and a savory sauce, though not spicy. Unique touches included crispy kale and fresh sichuan peppercorn stems. - Mango sticky rice: Very disappointing. Despite it being summer mango season, the mango was firm, unripe, and not sweet. The dish was also not very creamy. They provided coconut cream in small plastic droppers that you could add yourself, but it did not seem like enough to fix the dish. My favorite parts were the small serving of ice cream and the gels on the side. I would have expected better for a $16 dessert. I couldn't eat these items, but others at my table shared that the vegan green curry with tofu and the taro cake were delicious. However, the hot basil mussels were not cleaned thoroughly enough and still tasted sandy and the Northeastern steak was a bit chewy. The lobster Pad Thai tasted like fairly typical pad thai with a small bit of lobster. While the presentation was fun or interesting for some dishes, several items were served as separate components when they may not necessarily have needed to be. For example, the pad thai was served with peanuts and chili flakes on the side for people to adjust to their preference. Still, the presentation, little details around the restaurant, and their attention to special celebrations is well done. Overall, I'd have to think about returning to try some of the other entrees mostly, but I would have expected the food to be more consistently refined.

Went to MaKiin on a Sunday for their AYCE Thai food and I was pretty disappointed. The AYCE options really is just appetizers and all of the appetizers are just so cold. Not a single of them are hot even if they're on a warming plate which is jarring cause I'm sure if they were hot some dishes could be very good, but eating them cold just wasn't it for me. I will say the corn nuggets were probably my favorite but again I hated that it was cold. You're allowed one entree in the classic menu only (5 options). Since there was 4 of us we each ordered a different 1 to share. The fried rice is the exact same fried rice on the buffet so I recommend you don't order that. All of the entrees were very bland for Thai food. They don't even ask you for a spice level. Drunken noodles are usually my favorite but I was very disappointed. The fried chicken was probably the best thing on the menu, but doesn't really give off Thai food. Service was ok. Felt like it was hard to get them to refill the water. They forgot my drink order and I asked about it towards the end, and they were honest saying they forgot and brought it out free of charge which was very nice of them for admitting fault and being honest. Drink was very pretty and good. Overall the food just wasn't good and I won't be coming back.

Its a nice sophisticated and upscale restaurant with a elegant artwork. Their Houston Restaurant Weeks menu was also a great way to sample several of their offerings. Our waiter, Ronaldo, was attentive and did a great job recommending dishes. The beef short rib served on a hot stone was delicious. The beef was tender and curry was one of the best I've had! I just wish it had been served over rice instead of noodles and had a little more spice. With those small tweaks, it would have been absolutely perfect.

An upscale Thai location. Many people dressed up but it didn't appear required. Everything seemed to be elevated in presentation and solid tasting all around. Minor recommendations but overall highly recommend - Roti: 3 different dipping sauces with little elephant holders is very cute - Cones: Tiny bites that were tasty - Drinks: presented in a diamond glass, overall tasty - Phu Kat & *** - has a lemon shot you can add - Garlic fried chicken - one of the more standard presentations but tasty and crunchy - Khoi soi - spicy kick, tasty overall, pour the sauce with a little elephant - Whole fried fish: well fried, just felt like a sauce would elevate this since it can be much - Icecream: dry ice to make it steaming - enjoyed the icecream flavor - Mango sticky rice: milder sweetness but the fruits were not sweet and other than the presentation didn't find this that great Inside has lots of photo opportunities including the bathroom area. Overall solid food with aesthetic presentation from their cutlery to their dishware. Service was friendly. Very solid food option spot that has a more elegant feel to it. Food: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5

We went here for our anniversary dinner on Thursday so that we can watch their Thai show. The decor is beautiful outside, the dining area, bar, the way to the bathroom, and also the bathroom. We were given hot towels to wash our hands at our table. Their menu is on the tablets that they bring to you. Since it was happy hour until 6:30, we ordered appetizers (corn fritters and papaya salad) and cocktails (hua hin mango, mystiny, and nakorn kopi). We also ordered Esan pork ribs, crispy garlic chicken (similar to General Tso's), Majestic Ocean Medley, and mango sticky rice. They also provided a mini-pandan cake to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was good and we got to enjoy that Thai dances during our meal. I highly recommend this upscale restaurant.

Loved it here! I have been IG stalking it for quite sometime and finally gathered the crew to make it happen to celebrate a birthday. Ryan was great and then Lynn came along when things got busy to help out so we never felt neglected! This was an amazing experience. We went for happy hour which was not busy at all for a Friday. But as the night got later, the crowd grew. Fun fact the art here is from Thailand. The owner had to get permission to be able to display it here. It was so beautiful. The drinks! They have there own spin on some fan favorites and some have special presentations. The food. Nothing tasted bad. I loved everything. We left full as a tick.

Came here for my fiancé's birthday, and it was some of the best thai food we've had in the city. The upscale vibes make it a nice place to go out for date night or to celebrate an occasion. We will definitely come back in the future for another special occasion.

We had to order take out on a Friday night because it was 10 mins before closing (9pm on Fridays) and they processed the order incredibly fast. All tables were full when we picked up so I'm sure busy nights will be a bit of a wait to get in. We asked for "medium" spice but the receipt had been defaulted to "mild" thank god. It was still a decent amount of spice and any more I would have probably been sweating like crazy. So I would recommend starting off with mild and go from there unless you are a glutton for punishing spice. Their mild seems to be more like medium / hot at an Americanized Thai joint. Pad Kee Mow with chopped chicken was delicious. Fresh crunchy green beans and bell peppers, onions and tomatoes perfectly cooked with the perfect spicy basil sauce. Noodles all had sauce on them. Large serving size and great price. We also got papaya salad which was just right and nice spice. I wish I could come here often and try everything else on the menu.

I can confidently say that I was disappointed. There was not one dish that stood out or that I would recommend or come back for. I especially was sad that the crying tiger flavors really missed the mark. The sticky rice that came with it felt like it was reheated and some parts were hard. It also tasted like some of the vegetables (green beans and carrots) that come with the entrees were frozen, not fresh. The jasmine green tea tastes like a powder mix. Some of the squid tasted freezer burned. The kua kling was the most interesting and unique of the dishes, but not one that I would go out of my way to eat again. The sticky rice with mango was as expected. The coconut ice cream is probably pre-portioned and frozen so was rock solid when it came out. I did not find most of the toppings particularly good. It was a busy Friday and I know service was busy. The food did not take long to come out, but we definitely had dishes from previous courses that stacked up, and we had to ask them to be taken away. They do have a high chair for toddlers and brought a plastic plate/utensils, but there was not a changing table in the bathroom we used. We have had such great experiences at other Thai restaurants in Houston that I would not come back.

It could easily reach that level. Our waitress, Ann, was incredibly kind, soft spoken, and welcoming. My friend Sherita suggested this restaurant after we left a Yelp office hour, and I'm so glad she did because it introduced me to something I never knew I needed: the salmon mango fried rice. It was absolutely amazing. I originally planned to take some home for my son to try, but it was so delicious that I finished every bite in one sitting. Sherita had visited earlier in the week and tonight shared that she arrived; right before I walked in which was 30 minutes before closing time, Jackie told her to hurry up and order, even though she already knew exactly what she wanted and didn't even need a menu. Jackie response was unprofessional and didn't even wait till the table guest got to the table, which was less than seconds since we all arrive at the same time, and left the same place. During our visit, Jackie never brought us water. A couple who was seated after us received water before we did. It took over 10 minutes for us to get water. Ann took great care of us, but anytime we wanted a refill, we had to ask. At one point my glass was completely empty. I noticed Jackie refilling the water glasses for a table of six, so I managed to get his attention. He looked directly at me, scanned the room, then stomped away all fast without acknowledging my request. Instead, he told Ann that we wanted water, and she graciously brought it over. Even at the end of our meal, Jackie stood behind the register while my friends waited to pay, yet another employee ended up taking their payment. His overall energy felt very cold and unwelcoming. My friend even joked that it was probably for the best that he didn't refill my water because of the energy he was carrying. As someone who believes water absorbs energy, I honestly agreed. I'm grateful Ann was the one who served us with such kindness. The restaurant itself has such a peaceful, zen atmosphere. The greenery outside and the warm lighting inside create a cozy neighborhood spot that I truly want to love and revisit with my son. Thank you , Sherita for introducing me and Aaliyah to this hidden gem. I completely understand why you visited twice in one week. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu, and hopefully next time the hospitality matches the quality of the food.

We love this restaurant! It's our 2nd visit and everything we've tasted is delicious…read more We shared the Chicken Fresh Rolls with Peanut Sauce, Tom Kha coconut chicken soup, Ginger Lovers Chicken, & Nidda Peanut Chicken. Both of the entrees came with steamed white rice. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful and the dining area is very pretty and clean. Prices were very reasonable. Definitely give this place a try.
