Friday Night Dessert Run in Diamond Plaza! If you've never wandered around Diamond Plaza, you're missing out! This place is basically a foodie playground with hot pot, Korean BBQ, Korean skincare, desserts, dim sum, and so many other eateries all packed into one plaza. It's honestly such a fun spot to walk around, browse, and inevitably end up eating something you didn't plan on. Hubby and I decided to make a quick Friday night dessert stop and stumbled upon this spot. I had my eyes on their Mango Black Sticky Rice, and of course... we had to try it! Mango Black Sticky Rice -- $12.99 | 8.5/10 This was SUCH a fun dessert! The glutinous black sticky rice had a nice sweetness to it, and combining it with the icy shaved ice, creamy ice cream, and fresh mango created such a good balance of textures and flavors. The fresh mango added just the right amount of fruity sweetness without making the entire dessert overly sweet. On a hot summer evening, this was honestly the perfect little refreshment! Definitely one of those desserts where every spoonful gives you a different texture. I really enjoyed this one! Crème Brûlée Pearl Milk Tea -- FREE | 8/10 And here's where Yelp came through! They were running a limited-time promotion for a FREE Crème Brûlée Pearl Milk Tea after leaving a Yelp review, so of course hubby and I were not about to let that opportunity go to waste. I usually get my drinks at 50% sweetness, but since we were sharing, I went with full sweetness and light ice--and honestly, it was PERFECT. The milk tea had a nice creamy flavor, there was milk pudding inside, and the boba was soft, chewy, and definitely not hard. The crème brûlée flavor added that extra sweetness without completely overpowering the drink. Honestly... I would order this again! One thing I will say: COME EARLY! We arrived around 7:30 PM, and by about 8 PM, the line was already stretching out the door. So if you're trying to avoid the prime-time dessert rush, plan accordingly! The atmosphere was cute, the décor was nice, and the staff was friendly and quick despite the growing crowd. Overall, this was such a fun little Friday night dessert stop. Between the sticky rice dessert and the milk tea, I left very happy--and probably a little too full for someone who said, "Let's just get dessert." Definitely coming back to explore more of their desserts! Happy Eats!!!

Aside from bad parking (traffic flow around this area), Makkee is your place is you like Chinese desserts that aren't overly sweet. The menu is standard and brings back that nostalgic feeling of simple flavors like sweet red bean and taro. The desserts taste comforting and familiar without being too heavy or sugary. Ordering is easy, through the kiosk and the dessert was pretty much just as good as I expected. There are preset combo or you could build your own version--I chose the latter. My favorite is the Red Bean Combo with a side of taro! Definitely a nice spot when you're craving a traditional Chinese-style dessert.
I'm happy to see more traditional Chinese dessert shops opening in the area. Makkee is a popular Chinese dessert chain and it's expanded to Socal. Because it's popular, seating can be a little difficult and you have to be lucky to snag a spot during weekend afternoons. Their Makkee Deluxe has been my consistent favorite of the three times I've visited, it's not too sweet and the toppings are made well. It includes taro balls, red bean, grass jelly, peach gum, and lotus seeds, paired with fresh milk. I feel like if they had a shaved ice version, it'd be sooo good. I've also tried their magno snow black sticky rice, which was solid but nothing to write home about. It may no longer be on the menu, but I felt that their durian item had low quality durian, so I'd skip that.
We came to Makkee on a Saturday evening after having dinner in the same plaza. There are not a lot of seats inside and there can be a line since there is only one kiosk to order from. -- Creamy Snow Matcha Melon [4/5]: The matcha flavor was very subtle. There is black sticky rice on the bottom. I enjoyed the crispy coconut flakes. It was a sweet and savory dessert, which was pretty unique. It is definitely a refreshing dessert for the summer. -- Mango Pomelo Sago [3/5]: I probably would not order this again, since I thought it was nothing special. I will try the mango snow black sticky rice the next time I come here.
Be prepared for a crowd on weekends--the line goes out the door and seating is so scarce you practically have to hunt for a table. They seriously need a second ordering kiosk to help handle the rush. On the bright side, the menu delivers. The Taro Coconut Sago, Mango Pomelo Sago, and Taro Puree & Rice Mochi Milk Tea were all incredibly tasty and hit that sweet spot of not being too sweet. The desserts are worth it, but the lack of floor efficiency is definitely a drawback.

The cream seemed too rich, not sure if it was the best choice on a hot day. We've yet to try the teas. I think it's a bit pricey and not always easy to find a seat. Nice decor though, and can't wait for the next one to open in SGV
I don't like durian, my friends do so I've tried them at various places. The durian here is probably the best I've had, though I still don't like it lol The Makkee deluxe here I was expecting some sort of shaved ice style dessert and it had only less ice or no ice option. We were in the area and wanted to have some dessert. We came across this place and saw that they had mango pomelo sago and instantly wanted to try it. There is a walk up kiosk that you place your order and pay. Service was quick and we got our dessert within 5 minutes. The place is clean and quite relaxing. I can see why so many people come here. Their desserts are not too sweet and is the perfect balance for a treat. We also tried the mango snow black sticky rice and it was so refreshing. We will have to come back to try their other desserts.

Pretty good dessert spot with nice service. The seating could be cleaned more often though. I saw a lot of used bowls and leftover napkins just sitting on tables that did not get put away. I tried the peach gum, lotus seed, fresh milk $11.99. It came packaged in a green insulated bag in a take away bowl and with a cute spoon! (I did tell them I was not dining in.) This dessert was surprisingly delicious and not too sweet! I would come back for the mango pomelo sago next time.

I'm just glad this place isn't right next to my house, or I'd probably gain 20 pounds! These are some of the most delicious Asian-style desserts I've had. What I love most is that everything is only lightly sweetened, allowing the natural flavors to shine. The desserts are rich and creamy without being overly heavy or sugary. They use many traditional Chinese dessert ingredients like peach gum, grass jelly, red beans, lotus seeds, and other classic toppings, so it almost feels like you're eating something healthy... although I'm sure the calories still add up! Every dessert we've tried has been excellent, and it's become one of our favorite places whenever we're craving something sweet. I'm honestly glad I don't live too close because I'd be here all the time. Highly recommended--and fair warning, it's seriously addictive! read more
Parking might be hard to find, or you have to park far, during peak hours. This spot can also be packed and you might have to wait for seating during peak hours. Came on a decently hot day and the inside wasn't really air conditioned, or maybe it was just not on a low temp. You order on the kiosk and the order comes out decently quick. Went after a filling dinner at Garden Bistro right next door and decided to stop by as there were a lot os people in the store. So.. what's the hype about makkee? We got the mango sago with mini tapioca pearls and the tapioca deluxe. The mango sago with the mini tapioca pearls were surprisingly, not too sweet at all, unlike the drink versions you get a boba stores. Amount of tapioca pearls were great, but I wish that they out more diced mangoes. The dived mangoes were crazy sweet, perfectly ripe! The tapioca deluxe was also really good, the peach gum were a little bit on the softer side but the sweet potato bites were perfectly chewy. Like boba! The red bean were also on the mushier side.. which is not my cup of tea. Although I loved how the grass jelly lightened the whole dessert. Though the store was packed, no regrets on coming here! read more
We came on a Saturday afternoon, there was a good amount of people in store with a small wait. But everything is made very quickly once you place the order. The tapioca deluxe is awesome and highly recommended. It is not too sweet, the cassava is cooked perfectly along with the other ingredients. I really like how the milk is set aside so you can pour in it in based on your own preference. Also, they have oat milk as an alternative, very thoughtful and friendly there. They also hot options on some of their popular items, even better. The store is not too big, so make sure to grab any open seat before making the order if you decide to dine in. The tables are not very clean and organized since it is a self-service method. I would say the portion that you get is not the best with the price you pay, it is a bit pricey. This store is location in a very popular plaza, so parking can be a big issue during rush hour. Overall, this is a great place for desserts and hang out with friends. read more
this is the place for desserts that are not too sweet !! went in on a sunday noon and oh my it was super packed in there. inside is loud with kids running around and not much space to walk, which made the experience overwhelming and claustrophobic. we ordered through a kiosk and the desserts came out pretty fast. we got the mango snow black sticky rice and the warm tapioca deluxe. the flavors and texture are definitely there. everything is married well together. the only critic i have is that the milk for the warm tapioca deluxe could be more hot. when picking up from the front counter, it was already lukewarm. if anyone is contemplating about coming here, i would recommend coming on a weekday night since that is the time where they are not as busy. read more
We had a good experience with first time trying this place. They specialize in Hongkong dessert, with some westernized options (bingsu/shaved ice etc). - Tapioca Deluxe: 4.6/5. Toppings include Sweet Potato balls, Lotus Seeds, Tapioca, Red Bean and Peach Gum. Pairs with their house special milk (tastes similar to Sweetened Whole Milk). You can ask for Oat Milk. - Creme Brulee Boba Milk Tea: 4.5/5. Creamy, boba is on the softer side. Cute interior, recommended to look for a table first before ordering dine in. read more

We came on a Friday at 8:45 PM and holy cow it was PACKED in here. and I mean people were scouting for empty tables and immediately grabbing them when they sense even the SLIGHTEST movement that someone was going to leave!!! Crazy... the line was also slightly long. You don't order directly with them, you order at the kiosk. Got the mango pomelo sago and the taro coconut sago. I've had these desserts countless times growing up and they never get old, and it's just classic Hong Kong dessert. The mango pomelo sago was exactly what it was. Very smooth and creamy, and mangos were very sweet. Very refreshing without feeling too heavy for a dessert. The taro coconut sago was just as good. The taro chunks were soft while the coconut milk made everything creamy and comforting. I especially liked that it wasn't overly sweet and still let the taro flavor come through. Nothing super groundbreaking or out of the world here, just your classic Hong Kong style desserts. It's way too packed though... so next time I would either get takeout or just wait until the hype dies down. read more

Absolutely loved Makkee Dessert! Everything we ordered was fresh, delicious, and not overly sweet, which I really appreciated. The mango desserts were especially good--fresh mango flavor with a perfect balance of sweetness. The texture of the mochi and tapioca was also amazing. The place was clean and comfortable, and the service was quick and friendly. Definitely one of my favorite dessert spots in the area. I'll be coming back again! Highly recommend! read more
Wow, what more can I say? This place actually matches the rating. This is the best Tong Sui I've ever had (coming from an ABC), the quality of the ingredients is top notch and tastes so fresh. I would recommend more people to come here but that'll lead to longer lines lol. I will keep coming back, looking forward to their San Gabriel location soon as well. read more
The mango sago and mango sticky rice are amazing!!! I wonder if it's not mango season what I would order. While the service is pretty fast, it could be faster by having menus available to the line while they wait. I Asked the employee if the boba drinks were made with real milk and they didn't seem to understand me. So unfortunately I didn't get to try that. Parking was busy when we arrived but our line was short. By the time we finished our food the line was really long but there were a ton of parking spaces. I would definitely go back all the time if the drive wasn't 45 min away. :( read more
The desserts and drinks here were awesome! It just opened recently and it's very modern inside. I tried the oriental jasmine milk tea and it was very refreshing. The place does get crowded but it's easy to order on the kiosk. read more
Makkee Dessert is a new Chinese dessert shop that originally opened its first store in Shanghai in 2021 and has rapidly expanded over hundreds of locations across China in recent years. This location marks Makkee Dessert's first U.S. location. [Parking]: The shop is located in Diamond Plaza which has a parking lot that is pretty big, but I still ended up parking on the other side of the plaza and walking to the dessert shop. Parking is free. [Ordering]: All customers must place their orders using the lone kiosk. Once the order is ready, customers will receive a text message. Customers can also monitor their order status on the screen. The shop was packed on Sunday at 2:30 PM, but order preparation was surprisingly quick. If customers choose to dine in, they must secure a table before ordering. [Menu]: Top Yelp highlighted items include *fill in the blank* Snow Black Sticky Rice, Mango Sago with Mini Tapioca Pearls, and Mango Pomelo Sago. They also sell milk teas. Please note that mango season runs from April to July (mangos taste the best during the peak season). *** Mango Pomelo Sago ($10.99): A refreshing dessert, but the mango pieces tasted a bit sour. The overall sweetness level was about right. *** Think of Makkee Dessert as a slightly upgraded version of Meet Fresh except Makkee Dessert places a big emphasis on mango. Found Makkee Dessert on Yelp when we wanted dessert after dinner. This place is packed with line out the door on Saturday night! Good sign the food must be good. I ordered the signature dessert and my friends ordered 5 other different ones. They are all well made with quality ingredients and each component is cooked properly so nothing is too hard or too mushy. The overall dessert has just the right amount of sweetness. Nice packaging for to go order. The shop is bright and clean but it's so busy it seems understaffed. Limited seating available. I'd come back again to try different items. read more

Tasty traditional Chinese dessert place. Default level of sweetness is not that sweet. Served w milk on the side that you pour onto your dessert. Mine came w lotus seeds red bean taro balls. Great new addition to Diamond Plaza. read more
