It was so chaotic! I think that they are still working out some of the kinks. I realize that it was hot (heat wave) and the prices are cheap, but it was chaos inside. There was a long line for the self-serve kiosk, so we opted for the full-serve option. There is a small menu right next to the register, but I think it would be helpful to have a larger menu board so people can make their decisions while waiting in line. The full-service line wasn't actually that long, but boy did it take a long time. it seems like people had no idea how to order... it took forever for the 3 parties in front of us to order. It seemed like they had an issue with the matcha soft serve, perhaps they were running low. And by the time I was able to place my order (super fast, because I no questions asked, I knew exactly what I wanted), the matcha soft serve portions were a bit on the skimpy side... I was shopping in Hollywood a few weeks ago when I saw the Mixue mascot, "Snow King" (雪王), having a photoshoot on the Walk of Fame. I was so surprised to recognize the brand from my time living in China! I asked the photographer if there was a Mixue in the US, and he said they were opening their first location across the street, next to Miniso. I was so excited, I immediately texted my wife. She was thrilled to hear another Chinese brand was coming to the USA. We were told they'd be opening in a week, so we marked it on our calendars and planned to visit on their grand opening. We went back to Hollywood to try Mixue and waited in line early. They were giving out free ice cream for their grand opening. We ordered a variety of milk teas and other drinks. My wife gave away two of the milk teas she ordered, so I wasn't able to try them. We preferred the Orange Punch to the Grape with Taro Balls, but neither were very good, and we wouldn't order them again. The ice cream was the best thing we tried, so we'll have to try the milk teas next time. This is a budget-friendly milk tea, drink, and ice cream shop, and to be honest, we didn't enjoy it much in China. The main reason we visited was so my wife could share on WeChat with her friends back home that Mixue is now in Hollywood. The lemonade thing taste really good (don't think it's all fresh lemon, but $2 is cheaper than soda), and the jasmine green tea reminds me of pre-Lollicup era green tea (you know that slightly bitter jasmine GT which taste the same from every low-mid boba shops to Chinese restaurant?). The glory days of soft serve for cheap is gone, but here, it's $1.19-$1.69. The matcha won't blow you out the water like Maiko or Urban Matcha in Vegas, but it won't blow your wallet at least. I bought 2 because I needed an extra for the car walk back - it's good, more than good. Service is quick, give them your receipt at the left counter to receive your cone fresh. Just a heads up: the tablets you're supposed to order from are off to the left and very easy to miss, so you'll probably walk up to the counter first and get ignored for a second while you realize you're doing it wrong. We ordered the super triple milk tea (5$ L size, comes with pudding, coconut jelly, boba) and the coconut mango w/taro ($5 M size, comes with taro balls and coconut jelly). The mango drink was soooo good, the flavor of the mango juice was like the mango pudding they serve for dessert at some Chinese restaurants + dim sum. You get exactly what you come here for, cheap ice cream fast. And better yet, it's quite good. For under $1.50 the vanilla is strikingly distinct in flavor, it's definitely vanilla but there's almost a mascarpone like super-dairy extra flavor to it that I have only ever had in Chinese candy. No other soft serve comes close to how refined the sweetness and texture and flavor of the generic vanilla cone is, it's genuinely addicting in a way I've never experienced. I don't even care about presentation, I don't care about the insane music and merchandise, this is all part of the experience. It's short and overwhelming and you leave happy and that's all I want out of a place that's known for vanilla soft serve at a lower price than most bottles of water.
