Heard about this new coffee shop. They also serve matcha and ice cream. They have a nice array of coffee and matcha with some Filipino inspired flavors like Ube and pandan. It was later in the afternoon, so I opted for the Ube Matcha. I'm usually not a fan of flavored matchas, but I thought I would give it a try, and it was very enjoyable. It wasn't too sweet and the matcha and Ube flavors were well defined. Cute seating areas for groups and also single seats to work at. There was a good variety of ensymadas, and if you want a quick snack, they hit the spot. Staff was very friendly and the cafe is dog friendly. Parking could be challenging, but they do have a parking lot for the businesses in the strip, and there is also street parking. While in the area I stopped by to get coffee with my son. I love trying coffee shops in the cities I'm visiting. Today after an appointment at a local hospital we came here to have coffee and chill. There is parking right in front of the shop so that was great. Customer service was friendly, one person taking orders and making coffee. It's spacious with tables and chairs and a sofa. He ordered the caramel banana iced latte and I got their signature iced latte ... even though I asked for less sweetener it was still too sweet for my taste. This area is filled with amazing coffee shops and Malaya was still packed with people for good reason! I couldn't decide on what to get but I settled on the ube creme latte after a recommendation from the barista and a pandan ensaymada. The latte came with a creme top which was delightful and the espresso and ube were excellent. The ensaymadas are little brioche buns with filling and I took mine home and microwaved it for a couple seconds and it turned out perfect. Super soft and fluffy. Great Filipino-inspired coffee shop in Silverlake. There is free parking at their surface lot, which does get busy over the weekends. Ambiance is japandi, minimalist-inspired. Service was good. I ordered the Malaya signature, which was delicious! Very creamy and rich. The reason I knocked down a star is because I came here a second time with a friend who has a coconut and nut allergy. She ordered the strawberry matcha, which is supposed to be nut-free. There must have been some cross-contamination because it made her throat itchy. We didn't want to risk it, and ended up throwing it away. The specialty drinks are priced on the higher-side. With milk alt, tax, and tip totaling to about $10 per drink. While there's not many, this spot is probably one of the top Filipino-based cafes I've been to so far in SoCal! I visited this café on a Sunday morning for a pre-brunch pick me up and my experience here was great! Walking-in, I loved the modern and chic interior with a dash of Filipino cultural elements. The café was busy, but my friend and I were able to order and get our drinks relatively quickly. I ordered the Ube Crème Latte with oatmilk and it was pretty good. While the Ube flavor wasn't as strong as I hoped, I think it was an overall delicious coffee drink. I especially loved the flavor of the espresso. Whatever beans they're using for that, I could tell they were good quality! The cream top was nicely light and sweet and mixing everything together made for a great coffee drink. I also tried some of my friend's Pandan Matcha and it was really good as well. A good combination of matcha and pandan flavors which I will probably get next time I visit. Service was good and efficient. For parking, it's street parking but they also have a little lot in front which can get filled pretty quickly. If you're looking for a place to drink your coffee, read a book or be on your laptop to do some work, this is not the place for you. It's consistently loud. I have been here a good 30minutes and the loud voices that travel from the entrance to the back of the store have not stopped. I'm gonna sound super old right now but the group of customers here is more older teens to younger 20s who just have no care in the world. I think I am feeling a bit proud of them. I have never been that confident to make such loud noises in a public space even when I was that age. Needless to say, i love cafes. But cafes for me should be a cozy and intimate place for me to escape the noise from outside. Ok, coffee. I usually make my own coffee and it's most of the time black. Here, I indulged myself with getting an iced Pandan Latte. $8.xx for a 16oz cup. Oof. To be fair though, the coffee flavor comes through. It's not overly sweet and actually refreshing. This spot is located in the same plaza as LaSorted's Pizzas where there is a limited amount of parking spots. There is also street parking all around the area as well. Inside, they a modern and cozy interior with Filipino-inspired decor and a good amount of seating. For their menu, they have a nice selection of different matcha, coffee, ice cream, and pastries to choose from. Drive from Torrance is around 1hr during noon. We came because we're always stoked about supporting Filipino businesses. The Baybayin on the wall is a nice touch. Good amount of seating. Service was quick but they didn't have a tray so we had to carry 5 individual items to our table Ube latte is good. But the pandan, couldn't reall taste the pandan. Similar to the pandan ensaymada as well. Pandan is on the rise and what a lot don't realize, just like vanilla, pandan's main point is its aroma alongside its taste. Reaching the spot, I realized this neighborhood was certainly not new to me. Gong Gan, LaSorted, Picnic, and many more spots I've been visiting and fond of. Knowing Silver Lake, you would appreciate they have their dedicated parking spot, although I had to say most of the time it's fully occupied as they shared it with other establishments. If you skimmed through the menu, you could certainly tell they're bringing Filipino theme into anything they offered. Ensaymada, Ube, Pandan, you named it. The venue was surprisingly cozy. Simple and clean design, smart way in arranging multiple counter seats in different corners, making it accommodative to host quite many people. Nonetheless, coming with big group would still be tricky, unless you wouldn't mind to sit separately. If you're just coming to hang by yourself, I'd say it's wonderful spot to chill and read or even get work done. If you ordered their Ensaymada, they offered multiple flavors, which were basically the toppings. They did re-heat it pre-serving so I bet certainly nice. I didn't get it this time and just went for the drink instead. Seeing most people getting the matcha, I was persuaded to go for the same, but got mine with ube cause I definitely wouldn't wanna miss having ube from a place with Filipino touch. As disclaimer, the ube flavor was basically ube condensed milk, so it might indeed be on sweeter side. Trying my drink, I guessed next time I should go for just the matcha latte to be able to really tasted their matcha. This time the ube flavor kind of overpowered it. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty decent as I did love both condensed milk and ube, just that I wouldn't get to truly taste their matcha on its own (blame this one me LOL). Shoutout to Tiktok for reeling me into one of my new favorite cafes now. This was one of my first stops after flying in from the Philippines and it just brings me back. Immediately, I was enthralled by the Ube Cream Latte ($7.50) , it tastes just as incredible as it sounds. It's hard to find a cafe that can nail Ube flavors and this just might be it for me. I love that cream foam already comes in the drink, makes it more fun and flavorful. I'm excited to try more drinks and their pastries. We went around opening time and they were already flowing with customers. Not too busy but consistent. There's a decent amount of parking and lots of tables to dine & study. I love that the cafe is spacious and has Filipino-inspired decor. There's a water station & restroom inside the establishment. Staff seemed friendly and efficient. Their hours of operation are 9-5pm. I wish they opened earlier so customers can swing by before work, but granted they just opened so we'll see how it goes. Malaya is very good if you like a cinnamon taste. It was hard to taste the ube flavor in the latte, but then again I did ask for an extra shot of espresso. I'll have to try it as is next time for sure! As for the ensaymada, I suggest they warm it up for you. I had it when it was chilled and it was delicious, so I can only imagine when it's warmed. There's a new Filipino coffee place in town and it's Malaya Coffee and Ice Cream. They do pour overs which is mine and my husband's preference, but their speciality is sweet iced speciality coffee drinks such as ube and pandan lattes. They inherited the former Moon Juice space and are right next door to Pho Cafe so it's also a perfect place to enjoy your dessert after filling your bellies with dependable Vietnamese flavors. The service is nice and the workers are both friendly and helpful. It's also a good place to hang with friends or study and get work done. I was meeting up with a friend in Echo Park for dinner, and I didn't want to come all the way from Hollywood at rush hour. So I was looking for a coffee spot where I could do some work and wouldn't have such a long drive later. I'd heard about Malaya, a new Filipino-owned coffee shop, and it sounded interesting and fit the brief (less than 10 minutes from my friend and open until 6 PM), so off I went. It's located in a small shopping plaza, the same one that houses Pho Cafe and Same Same Thai (or maybe it's same same but different), and I lucked into a parking space. Otherwise, there's street parking which can be free if you're willing to venture off Sunset (or metered on Sunset). It's super cute inside, with several two-tops and counter seating in a variety of spots. There are a number of outlets. I was welcomed warmly by a friendly barista, and after examining the drink menu, I opted for the Malaya Signature, which is a creamy drink with brown-sugar infused espresso, condensed milk, milk and cinnamon. It's not as thick as some of the Korean cream top drinks, but either way, I really enjoyed it. I was worried it might be too sweet, but it wasn't (at least not for me). I then proceeded to do work on my laptop all afternoon in the comfortable environs. Wi-Fi is fast and didn't present any issues. It's definitely a remote-worker friendly spot but also a place where you could catch up with a friend. I didn't sample any of their baked goods this time (didn't want to spoil my dinner), but they looked inviting, and I can see myself trying them out in the future. My boyfriend got a caramel banana latte. His was good, but it was funny because we both noted that the sago drink tasted more like banana than his did. We also got two of the pastries on display. Those were delicious. Fluffy bread, delicate, not too sweet, and the toppings matched very well with the dough. The rest of their menu looks delicious but overall I left pretty disappointed. I would not come back unless I happen to be in the area. I hope my review is helpful.
