I think this is the best happy hour far and away in downtown Tampa and it really isn't even very close. I've been here so many times, but never reviewed this spot. $10 Dirty Malio Tini is always my go to when first sitting down. Here, Cooper's Hawk, and Casa Santo Stefano currently are all tied for the best dirty martini in Tampa. Plus during happy hour you can't beat $10! What a steal! I've tried all of the other cocktails on the menu, but this is the only one you should really order. The $9 Blue Ice Martini is basically the same thing, but as a low calorie vodka version. I think this drink is a lot worse. I prefer the classic dirty! I always start with the $11 potato skins. I love these things. They always hit the spot. So delicious! Then, I always get the $15 filet tips. Wow, I mean, only $15 what a steal. These things are so good. I've tried a bunch of their burgers, but on this occasion I had the $13 French Onion. This burger is on par with Boulon, and Engine #9 in St. Pete for best burger. I love this burger. There are TV's in both corners of the bar. Always classy people here. Atmosphere and service were great. The steaks were NOT great. The quality and flavor do not justify the high price (recommend Ocean Prime or Island Way for better steaks and value). Both of our steaks were under done - we could have sent them back, but more often than not, they just come back well over. The crab cakes were too mushy, the jumbo shrimp smelled "yeasty" which was off-putting. Several pieces of broccoli had black spots - which isn't a huge deal, but for the price you pay for said broccoli makes me expect more. The creme brule was ok - however, the texture was a little gritty\eggy - again, for the price you pay for this dish, you kind of expect perfection - and this was not that. The loaded potato was good and the bread\butter was quite nice. The stars of the show were definitely the caprese (the mozzarella was amazing) and the salad (I got it with ranch, and it was exceptional). Overall, I did not feel they justified the price of their food. Our bill for 3 people was about $410 with tip. For that money, you would be much better served at Ocean Prime. Had the pleasure of being able to finally enter the coolest looking building in Tampa. The old Sykes building (not sure what it's actually named now). But the restaurant is right at the base of the building. First off the design is very sleek looking and nicely dimmed for a nice chill meal experience. Lamb chops, asparagus, mashed potatoes, scallops, and steak were all we decided to go for today. We couldn't find anything prior to arrival that let us know that they in fact DO serve dinner menu items. This was worrisome because we came right at opening which is brunch time. Now the food was all good the mashed potatoes lacked any seasoning but still whipped perfectly and fluffy. The lamb chops were very tender but the steak stole the show. The chimichurri was amazing. The shrimp Theresa was a delightful snack offering but I think it could use a little more seasoning to add flavor. The Spa Burger was tasty, slightly overcooked but it hit the spot. I love this place. It's a Tampa staple and the quality has continued to be high throughout the years. They have great happy hour specials at the bar area but I'd recommend that you make a reservation. They also have a beautiful dining room. We had the filet tips and the tuna app. Both were excellent. We had an excellent experience here! We came in on a Tuesday around 8:00 PM. We had a reservation, but they were still setting up the table so the hostess offered us a drink while we waited. We ordered two espresso martinis but ended up waiting less than 2 minutes. The espresso martinis were great! The place was busy, but not too loud that couldn't hear people at your own table. We had the mozzarella as an appetizer and it was amazing! The marinara on top was great. For our entrees we had shared a Caesar, I had a side of pasta, we shared a side of Mac and cheese, and my fiance had the 8 ounce filet. Everything was incredibly delicious! This place is hard to find, but once you find it, it will remind you of a New York bar/restaurant. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation so we went to the bar for a drink. The bar is very nice, but the tables and stools are so close together it's not comfortable. We waited awhile for service but finally got the bartenders attention. I ordered a lemon drop martini. In watching her make it, I noticed she used a straw to "fish" something out of the drink. She still served it to me. It wasn't a lemon drop. There was so much triple sec it tasted like orange. Not sure I understand, because the place is big and doesn't need to be jammed. The menu has a nice variety of entrees. Our server, Sage, couldn't have been any better. I settled on the French onion soup and the crab cake entree and shared mashed potatoes with my husband. While waiting for our soup, we were served nice, hot crunchy bread. It was so good, we all devoured the first loaf quickly. My soup arrived nice and hot and looked delicious. It was delicious! It may be the best French onion soup I have ever had. We waited longer than expected for our entrees. My crab cakes arrived barely warm, as did my husband's lamb chops. Our friends had pasta and filet and theirs was hot, so I am guessing ours sat while they prepared their food. Again, grrrrr. Malio's is the perfect spot to kick off your night before a show at the Straz Center-just a quick 9-minute walk away. Even better, they're a Channel District-approved restaurant, meaning you can order a bottle of wine and bring your leftover wine with you to the Straz in one of their to-go cups. The service was truly out of this world. Our waiter, Daniel (with the braids!), made the entire evening a 5-star experience. He was incredibly attentive and even asked upfront if we had a show to catch so he could perfectly time our meal -and he nailed it. We ordered the Wagyu Tomahawk, which was absolutely delicious -close to one of the best steaks I've had in Tampa. Here's another review from our last visit to Tampa. We came here for dinner with our business friends. It's a beautiful steakhouse located in a building. Hubby and I shared a seafood pasta and NY strip. The pasta was excellent, and the steak was tasty. I thought the seafood pasta was the best of the night. Our friends had filet mignon and wedge salad. Came here for a lunch and business meeting. First off this is a nice place located in a unique spot. Wouldn't call it upscale but it's also well maintained and keeps a formal look. I ordered the caesar salad and veal with mashed potatoes. The salad was very good mainly because the dressing was well made. The greens had a fresh crunch to them and the cheese was laid thick! The veal comes with an option of topping and I had to go for the Marsala. This is definitely one of the better veal Marsala I've had in a long time. The veal was tender with a nice thin breading on it. Mash potatoes were creamy with great flavor of butter. I would mind coming back for dinner sometime but if you want a good meal for a good price then the lunch here is a great option. Service was great too. I came for a work dinner, which had a fixed menu. The little fried shrimp scampi appetizer was amazing; I could easily have eaten 25 of them and called it a meal but alas, we only got two each. I liked the house salad which had the perfect amount of funky cheese. I got the seafood pasta which was pretty good. Very very large shrimp. Honestly when the shrimp get that big imo the flavor actually takes a hit. The linguine was served in a thin sauce that was mildly lemony and mildly buttery. Funny enough, the pasta was served with a side of potatoes (same side everyone got, which makes sense since most people got steak). The potatoes were great! Great place to dine, we met friends for happy hour and we had a ball. The service was beyond excellent and the food and drinks were amazing. We split the meatball appetizer, split a salad and split the steak tips. Oh my gosh everything was delicious and amazing. The meatballs were two large pieces, the salad was big enough for two and the steak tips were tasty and tender. We had a cocktail each and let me tell you that the bartender was heavy handed ( wink wink ) and she was very sweet and professional. Make reservations for the restaurant at least 2-3 days in advance or the bar is first come first serve. The dress code was casual but I would say don't do any athletic wear. My wife had on a sun dress and I had on casual shorts and a button down shirt. There is valet parking for $6 every 3 hours. This is a wonderful place and it will be one of our favorites read more

Two of us got the lobster and steak surf and turf "special." A $20 up charge to upgrade 2 oz's- from an 8 oz filet to a 10 oz filet. The "special" was MUCH more expensive than just getting a 10 oz filet and add a lobster. Also, $38 for a side of lobster Mac and cheese, and the lobster was rotten. Had the most disgusting bleach smell. The other two of us got the other "special." Seabass and two tiny rotten scallops. My seabass was completely dried out. Scallops smelled horrible. We were really looking forward to dining at Malio's, but unfortunately our experience was a huge letdown--especially for a special occasion. My fiancé has always enjoyed Malio's happy hour from his days working downtown, and I had been excited to take him out for a proper birthday dinner. I made a 5:30 reservation for his 33rd birthday and noted the occasion both on OpenTable and over the phone. The host even acknowledged his birthday when we arrived, so I felt confident we were off to a good start. We began at the bar for happy hour. The staff seemed overwhelmed and it was difficult to get their attention. Our tuna tartare arrived without silverware, and no one stuck around long enough for us to ask. We ended up eating it without utensils until the bar staff eventually noticed and apologized. Things didn't improve once we were seated for dinner. We ordered a filet and salmon, but our server was extremely rushed and never returned to the table after taking our order. We weren't given the opportunity to order drinks with our meal, and the filet came out overcooked. We ate it anyway, but no one ever checked on us or asked how the food was. The only time the server came back was to drop off the check and take our card--without making eye contact or asking if we needed anything. At that point, I flagged him down and asked if they typically do anything for birthdays. He said they always bring dessert. I mentioned that we were there celebrating a birthday and nothing had been done. He blamed the hostess for not telling him. As Tampa natives, this was really disappointing. We went from being genuinely excited to celebrate at Malio's to feeling completely forgotten. Spending close to $300 on a birthday dinner only to feel insignificant is not okay. We likely would have spent more if we had received even minimal service. I don't know if this was due to holiday short-staffing or if this is normal, but either way, it left a bad impression. If you like fine dining and money isn't an option this is a place you may want to check out. I was in town for a conference and wanted to splurge a bit. Most of the restaurants near my hotel had long waits so a ventured off the beaten path to Malio's Prime. When I called ahead they said there was no wait so I decided to take the short drive. It was located in a office building but I didn't find any on street parking and I didn't see any parking lots so out on convenience I used their valet service. It was only 6 dollars if you had it validated at the restaurant. Once I checked in at the hostess desk I was greeted with a smile and seated with no wait. The waitress brought your some warm bread with butter and water as soon as I sat down. She took my order for a drink. I had their version of an Old Fashioned. It was rather strong I must say but not bad. For an appetizer I had and order of the pan seared scallops. They came out as I was finishing my first drink. The scallops were cooked well and seasoned properly. Not over cooked and rubbery as some places I have been before. For my main course I ordered the 12 oz fillet medium rare. It was ready shortly after I finished my scallops. The steak was absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection with a tender pink interior. The plate was still warm when they brought it out. All sides are a la cart. I ordered some of the sautéed spinach, Mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. Man n cheese was a little too cheesy for my taste. Service was definitely top tier but you are going to pay a premium. Looking at about 150 per person. I great experience for once in a blue moon if you have some money to burn. read more

Racially Motivated Misconduct by Manager and Bartender - 11/12/25 I visited on 11/12/25 from 4:50-8:03 PM. As a Black woman, I believe this interaction was racially motivated. Bartender Tara repeatedly slammed chairs around me and later went to the dish area, retrieved dirty wine and shot glasses, and placed them directly in front of my meal while I was eating. She ignored me completely and never acknowledged the incident. When I requested a manager, Dana approached and touched me unprovoked, triggering my PTSD. She denied touching me, then attempted to touch me again. Instead of addressing Tara's actions, Dana ratified and justified her behavior. Once Dana realized she could not run me into circles about emotions and mistreatment she comped my bill to save face. After comping my bill, Dana refused to serve me another drink because, in her words, she "thinks it's best" since I spoke up about Tara attempting to belittle and make me uncomfortable as a Black woman during my fine-dining experience. Malios Prime Steakhouse is located in Downtown Tampa in the beer can highrise building also known as the Sykes Rivergate Tower off Ashley and Kennedy next to Curtis Hixon Park and offers patrons nice views of the Hillsborough River and the University of Tampa. The Escargot came baked in a tray w 6 holes in traditional Garlic Butter w Toast. Escargot is not my favorite but I figured I should try it. 6/10 The Ahi Tuna Tartare appetizer came with a generous portion of Ahin Tuna, Pickled Ginger, Soy, Cucumber, Avocado, Wonton Chips. 8/10 The French Onion Soup Au Gratin was very cheesy and flavorful. French onion soup is one of my favorites and this one did not dissapoint! 9/10 The Chilean Sea Bass came pan fried and topped with citrus butter, with a side of rice pilaf, and 2 scallops. The sauce from the scallops was not enough for all the rice. I had to ask for more sauce as the rice was a bit dry on its own. 7/10 The 6oz Prime Petit Filet goes for $48 and does not come with any sides. The typical loaded baked potato that should go with a steak will cost ya another $10, which puts this steak well over the Berns Steakhouse bar price-wise. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came as ordered and was not too tough or chewy and had a decent marinade. 8/10 The Brownies a la mode came with a large brownie, scoop of vanilla ice cream, a strawberry, and chocolate fudge sauce. It has a perfect location right on the Tampa Riverwalk in the heart of downtown. Our group chose to sit inside to avoid the Florida humidity, but the ambience inside is just as perfect. We started with a bottle of Chandon. It was magnificent! Next, I enjoyed the Summer Salad, with fresh fruit and goat cheese. For our mains, we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and Seared Ahi Tuna Steak.
