If you're here for the Christmas vibes, you'll be happier than Buddy the Elf in a snow globe. The place is decked out like a holiday dream -- twinkling lights, festive decor, and all the cozy cheer. On the ambience scale, I'm giving it a solid 5/5. You'll feel merry just sitting there. The food, however, didn't quite deliver the same sparkle. I ordered the hush puppies stuffed with duck picadillo, which sounded fancy and exciting. Turns out, they were more "cheese with a whisper of duck" than anything else. The rest of the menu? Limited and pricier than Santa's gift list. Service was slow -- surprisingly so, given that there were more empty seats than occupied ones. The server was polite, though, so points for that. And now for the real kicker: no happy hour. Their website cheerfully promised it from 4:30 to 6:30, but when I asked, I was told it was "because of Christmas time." I didn't realize festive decor had the power to cancel out discounted drinks! So apparently, holiday cheer = no happy hour.

    Poor customer service.

We had a reservation for 15 people and walked up to the door and found a letter stating they had plumbing issues and wouldn't be open. Other folks said it had been closed for a week. Really poor form to not notify reservations of a closure status. We were able to relocate to Bernini's around the corner, which was AMAZING and accommodating!

Came here for Christmas drinks. There was an entire food and drink menu for Christmas. We shared a few appetizers: dates wrapped in bacon, agnolotti, and fried okra. Everything was incredible and good portion sizes to share with 2-3 friends. The staff was friendly and sat us immediately, even though we were a little early for our reservation. They went all out with the Christmas decor: inflatables, tinsel, a Christmas tree. Great spot to stop in for a festive experience.

This is a beautiful restaurant on 8th and 15th Street in Ybor City, Tampa. (You can take a free trolley ride and get off at 15th St., then walk right across the street to the restaurant- that's a fun and different thing to do in Tampa). I always love their Le Smash- one of the tastiest burgers in town. Burrata is also one of my favorites!!, and they serve it with freshly made Naan bread- hot from the oven. Their steaks are also some of the best around town and they usually have different cuts of meat for you to choose. The food is very creative, and always a beautiful presentation. Their bartenders are great and have some really cool, fun craft cocktails. Their beer list isn't the best, but they do have wine and champagne also. For the past couple years, they have started doing a Christmas pop-up- called the Blitz Inn- is starting, possibly this week (Nov 6, 2024) Their decor is so fun and Christmassy and serve specialty cocktails in Christmas mugs!! So fun... Definitely go to Ybor city and check out this gem.

The place is very nice I love the concept of being able to see the kitchen, very modern. The food and service was absolutely delicious! We had the catch of the day, black grouper & the steak. We had the fried gnocchi as an appetizer and the burnt cheesecake for dessert.

Food was amazing . You have to get the pigs on a date if they still have them . The service was great and our waitress was super friendly . The chef came over and checked in . They are decorated so cute for Christmas right now. Perfect date night venue or girls night out.

Wow!! The food was incredible!!! We ordered a variety of dishes to share & every bite was so exquisite like nothing else I've ever had. From the soft buttery corn bread, Brussels salad with cherries on top, shishito peppers with sausage, gnocchi with oxtail... YUM! Our waitress was very informative & attentive. The menu was like nothing else I've ever seen so we had a lot of questions & she was very detailed on menu items. The interior is very romantic, I literally felt like I was in another country I love it!

My party of 4 arrived on a Sunday evening and we were seated immediately. I initially made reservations online but honestly didn't need them. We were the only ones dining in that evening and had the restaurant to ourselves until closing! The service was honestly average at best, the drinks were great, but the food was seriously lacking. The menu consists of a few appetizers, a soup of the day, a salad, about 7 savory main courses, and 2 desserts (*the menu listed on their website is completely different from what's offered in house). We skipped the appetizer portion and ordered a couple of main courses; The catch of the day, 2 kids meals, and the "No Secret" fried chicken. While writing this review, I noticed that we should've recieved a soup or a salad with our entree but were never offered that option. The kids fries came out first which was fine with me as it kept the kids occupied for a while. The rest of the dishes came about 15 minutes later. The kids enjoyed their meals but the adults, not so much. My fried chicken dish was nothing more than extremely salty fried chicken tenders placed on top of basic mashed potatoes with average tasting brown gravy and sprinkled with a few micro greens on top as a garnish. Aside from the saltiness of the dish, it also need a vegetable to go along with it to make it feel complete. My husband's Catch of the Day was ok. He stated that it wasn't enough food and still felt hungry afterwards. Luckily the menu seems to rotate seasonally so there's a chance that if I decide to come back, I may have a better experience. On a good note, the ambiance was very nice and felt intimate, absolutely perfect for a date night and a few pictures.

Came for the Christmas in July pop up and as a big Christmas gal myself, it did not disappoint! The drinks were delicious and the bartender (never got his name but he's got a great beard) was super knowledgeable about cocktails in general. Got the milk bread as an appetizer and it was also solid. The decor was on point, although I will say the area to the left when you walk in is quite a bit more decorated so we made sure to get there early to snag that side. Hoping to make it back in December when they do the full pop up

Stopped in on a whim to give it a shot. Wanted a table but they were all reserved so we went to the bar. I didn't see much on the food menu that was really appealing other than the Le Smash burger. We stuck with just the drinks for this trip. The old fashioned was strong and very flavorful with cinnamon. The egg nog was more of my speed as it wasn't as strong a drink as the old fashioned. The bartender was really genuine and helpful. Nice ambiance with the Christmas theme. Give The Barterhouse a shot if ever in Ybor!

Had such an excellent time here! Great cocktails and even better food! Flavor combos really take it to the next level. Will 100% be back here! Gorgeous bar. Hazelnut cheesecake not pictured. Ate too quickly!!

This place is chic! The inside decor is very cool and eclectic. Definitely somewhere you'd want to dress nicely to. We sat at the bar for a cute little girls night dinner and our bartender was amazing. He gave us great recommendations on the drinks and menu. Menu wise, I really enjoyed our appetizers. The charred brussels were delicious and really had that smoky flavor and the bacon wrapped dates I would definitely go back for. I personally got the caccio e Pepe with the blackened chicken and I wasn't a fan. I felt that the pasta needed more sauce and the chicken was pretty dry, so I'd recommend something different from the menu. My friends loved the burger and I did get to try the guava bbq sauce from the pork shank and it was delicious. The meat also fell off the bone for the pork shank so I'd go back and order that instead! When we visited, they had a cream cheese martini of some sort that I 10/10 recommend. Overall great experience!

Decided to retry this restaurant for my husband's birthday. I initially tried Barterhouse for Valentine's and honestly it was not worth it. The lobster tail and wagyu steak meal for two was poorly executed and truly a meal for one..my advice, DON'T do the Valentine's Day meal for two. Now this experience, I went on a Friday night, Feb 2024 and was immediately seated. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, the deviled eggs, the braised short rib and the pork shank. The braised short rib and the pork shank were definitely the stars...tender, fall off the bone and flavorful. The deviled eggs was deviled eggs but the candied bacon elevated it. Peaches and Abby, our servers were wonderful. You can't help but match their positive energy. They made the experience way better than Valentine's Day in 2022.

The ambiance was nice. A lot of eclectic paintings on the walls. And loved the outfits of the servers. Very 20's speakeasy. There is a live jazz band that started performing at 7 pm. They were good but at some points it was a bit difficult to speak and listen to those at your table unless you got really close. My meal hit the spot. We started with a charcuterie board for the table. It had a lot of great options like dried apricots, actual honeycomb pieces, and my most favorite cheese, some Brie cheese. The only thing was there was only 4 pieces of bread, one for each of us, which wasn't enough but I guess it made sense not to fill us up too much. For my main meal I had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty and the sweet potato risotto, which a little spicy kick. The only thing I missed was the Brussels sprouts and potatoes but was told that was from the previous chef. But they serve you enough so you definitely will have left overs. Not a big fan of eating in the lounge areas, those are best just for drinks and maybe desserts. But it's definitely a great place to people watch. You will definitely have a meal and a show no matter what. Hopefully can schedule another time to bring my family because I know they would love it.

While waiting outside (for no real reason, since it was empty), we chatted with a party of six who came straight from Ash (the sister restaurant upstairs). They'd just spent over $1,000 on their meal and were still getting charged a cover to enter Alter Ego. That's poor business, don't force extra fees to guarantee money when good music, drinks, and vibes should bring people in naturally and make them want to spend. There's plenty of places on Water Street with great (and I'd say better) cocktails where you're not forced into minimums or covers. The Christmas cocktail menu was disappointing too, poor selections and way too sugary. Love the potential here, but the strict policies really turned me off and made me want to go elsewhere next time.
