My daughters surprised me with a beautiful dinner at Bern's Steakhouse and I was delighted because I always wanted to dine there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is beautiful and has valet parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Cory provided excellent service. As a foodie, I found every course a delight. The experience went far beyond the meal. Touring their famous kitchen and wine cellar, then ending the evening in the dessert room with great sweet treats, and the best espresso martini I've ever had made the celebration unforgettable.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I'll start by saying that the ambiance and the aesthetic of the restaurant are amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love how knowledgeable our waitress was and the "happy anniversary" card on the table was a cute personal touch. I will also say that I love how this steakhouse includes sides with the price of the steak. The only thing I found slightly disappointing was the steak itself. It wasn't a bad steak but it certainly isn't amongst the best in the Tampa area. After dinner we took a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar which were really informative and then made our way up to the dessert room. The espresso martini is one of the best I've tried and although I enjoyed the dessert it was a bit on the see we side but that just might be my personal preference!

    A5 A5 Japanese Wagyu

My wife and I visited Bern's for our anniversary, and it was an unforgettable experience. We ordered the A5 Wagyu steak, and it was hands down the best steak I have ever had in my life. I can still taste how incredible it was! My only concern now is that every other steak I have will feel subpar in comparison. As always, the service, food, and ambiance were all five-star. Being a Tampa native, we have dined at Bern's many times over the years, but this was by far the best steak and overall experience we've ever had there. I'm already trying to come up with another excuse to celebrate at Bern's soon!

Definitely loved the experience of dining at Bern's Steak House. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. The service and ambiance made our evening. After dinner they take you on a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar, such a fun experience. I also highly recommend the dessert room after dinner! My favorite was the Dutch apple pie. The table side banana foster for 2 was so fun and tasted great! Cant wait to come back and enjoy the other desserts.

My wife and I came here for our second anniversary and what can I say, Berns it's an incredible experience. Probably one of the best steakhouse experiences I have ever had, rivaling House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is very unique, there are 8 different dining rooms (and I think the lounge additionally?), each with their own theme, decor, and differing amount of tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated in the original room with many different works of art layering the walls, which was fun to look at during breaks in conversations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server Di was great, knowledgeable and helpful, she gave us great recommendations. Afterwards she asked if we wanted to join for a quick tour of the kitchen, which is where she explained the history of the room we ate in (which was the original room where the kitchen and 8 tables used to be). The kitchen tour is a must also, to see their giant grill, the servers running around, it's a sight to behold. For dinner we didn't stray too far and just got the steaks and the accompaniments. We started with the french onion soup, I upgraded mine to the lobster bisque, which our server brought out deconstructed to allow the lobster to show before the bisque was added. Definitely my favorite lobster bisque I've had, very flavorful. But had to be careful not to get completely filled up on it. Next was the house salad, which was ok, nothing too special, but you have multiple options for the sauce and were very tasty. My wife got the fillet and I got the rib-eye, each came with onion strings and vegetable of the day (unless changed). Both steaks were incredible, cooked very nicely and were very flavorful with seasoning and the char from the charcoal grill. I also got a side of bone marrow which was moreso just a try for me, I'm not typically a fan, but enjoyed it none-the-less. For drinks my wife had a glass of wine from there extensive collection - I've heard they have thousands of bottles and their wine book with somewhere close to 50 pages definitely confirmed that - and I had the Bern's old fashioned. The wine was very good, while the old fashioned was alright. [[HIGHLIGHT]]One of the coolest parts of the night was that near the end of our dinner the server asked if we wanted to go to the dessert room (upstairs), which we accepted. The dessert room is essentially an entire different restaurant with different small booth rooms for your table to sit in with access to change the music to a few different options.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The dessert menu had some amazing items on it; of which we were informed is all made in house. Having a sweet tooth and being our anniversary, we got two desserts, the peanut butter truffle and the king midas. Both were some of the best tasting desserts we've ever had, though we were struggling to finish them because of the large meal we had just ate. We also got espresso which was very good as well. Overall, Bern's is a 5/5 top experiences and food. I would come here again in a heartbeat and would tell everyone it's a must try.

Man I love to eat. This place allows me to do that with ease. I love it here. I seem to find myself here at least twice a year and I'm beyond blessed for it. Everytime I show up it's great and I act like it's my first time. Options are endless, every road is going to lead to a fantastic meal. Look at this picture attached. Just soak it in. That's 4 grown men having a great time. Personal steaks, shared sides, and wine for the table. Somebody print this out and put it on a wall. To Mr. Bern: Thank you. You have done too much for society. You have contributed a watering hole for all likes to enjoy. You have built a great lil home here and I can't wait to come back. That is all. Book your reservations everyone, wait the allotted sentence and enjoy when the time comes.

Bern's never disappoints. From the moment we arrived, the service was attentive and professional, and the food was exceptional. Every course was prepared beautifully, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere made the evening feel like a true special occasion.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A special shout-out to Kenny in the Dessert Room. His live piano performance added so much to the experience and created the perfect ambiance to end the night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The music, desserts, and overall atmosphere made for a memorable evening. We'll definitely be back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is amazing the ambiance the presentation the your the dessert room so fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Went for Father's Day and had a late reso. Didn't feel rushed at all. Which was awesome. Tried the chips and dip as an app so good. And then did a large format tomahawk for us to share. All the side were yummy. Love the soup and spelt toasts. Steak was flavorful and cooked correctly. The tour after was amazing been before but it's cool how things have evolved. Dessert room was top notch. Did the trio and loved it. We stayed at epicurean so we just walked over. Nice!!

Great place to celebrate a birthday! No matter how many times we've been here, it always feels like the first. The waiters/waitresses do a great job of explaining the menu, making sure you're never without water or a beverage, and make sure the food tastes delicious! We were promptly greeted and ordered drinks and our entrees. One of the things that's different about Berns than other steakhouses is the steaks come with French onion soup, a house salad, the steak of choice, baked potato, onion straws and the vegetable of the night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After dinner we went upstairs to the dessert room which feels more intimate because you're in your own private room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall, we love Berns and try to do as many celebrations here as we can!

I was very disappointed with the way the food taste for the price we paid. The experience overall with the tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar, and the dessert presentation was phenomenal. The food itself was not good at all. Even though the waiter insisted on a few options that we went with they were not what we expected, especially the mac & cheese. It was horrible. Grant, who was our waiter was super nice and super friendly and gave us a lot of information about the restaurant and when we did the tour that was amazing as well, but again I stressed to you the food was not great. I would not be back.

Always amazing food and service! We celebrated my son's 22nd birthday with close family. Our server was wonderful and made many suggestions to our meal. We tried a couple of different whites to accompany our meal. The kitchen tour is always informative, if you are bringing in guests make sure to schedule the tour at dinner with your server. Dessert in the dessert room upstairs was memorable, they really make you feel special.

For me, Bern's Steak House was the best steak house experience out of all the steak spots in Florida. We had zero knowledge and expectations going in, and only afterwards did we find out this place was fine dining (we were under dressed), requires 2 weeks ahead reservation (hard to get in), and offered wine cellar and back of the house (kitchen) tour. The first impression entering the restaurant was that it was packed with formally dressed people. Bern's steakhouse had second floor and a separate dessert area but in the beginning, it was chaotic with many people bustling in different directions. We were finally seated at the booth near the bar area and it was cozy. This was our first time here so we ordered some recommended cocktails, wines, appetizers, and our main entrees. The service was efficient and professional. There will definitely be a next time and when that time comes we will be skipping 2-3 appetizers because the entrees come with soup, salad, greens, and fried onion rings along with your choice of protein. The prices can be seen a bit high at first but once you see, taste, and feel after the dining experience, you will agree that the price is worth every bit. Every dish was delicious and just right, in presentation, to portion, to flavors. The appetizers definitely worked up our appetite. The soup was delicious. The salads fresh tasting with the vegetables fresh and crisp. The entrees were cooked to their perfection and they could not come out more perfect than this. The dessert area was a nice unique experience for us as well. Located upstairs and private booths, we enjoyed different items on the menu and with the live piano playing in the background, the moment was unforgettable. Bern's steakhouse offers valet parking only.

I've lived in Tampa for the past 4 years and I finally tried out the famous Bern's to celebrate match day with my family. You have to focus on scheduling a reservation exactly 60 days in advance because they book up quickly! Huge shoutout to our server Tracy. She made our night feel special with her humor, restaurant knowledge and attentive service! We started with a bottle of prosecco to celebrate, and then the Resonance Pinot noir - delicious! In terms of food, I recommend just ordering one of their steaks since it automatically comes with French onion soup, side salad, baked potato and onion rings. We were so full by the end we're glad we didn't get any apps. The NY strip was to die for - cooked perfectly at medium rare. Onion rings were thin, crispy and perfectly seasoned. Of course couldn't forget to shoutout their French onion soup. In summary, we were happy with every aspect of our meal. Food was outstanding but the experience was even better. Highly recommend the tour of the kitchen and wine cellar after you eat with a trip up to the dessert root after. Their macadamia nut ice cream was seriously the best ice cream I've ever had. Espresso martini was bomb and the perfect after dinner drink. SO GOOD

Ask the Community - Bern's Steak House

    What is Chicken Gert?

Chicken Gert, a tribute to Bern’s Steak House founder, Gert Laxer. This beloved dish features a…

Do they take contactless payment, like apply pay?

    Yes

    Buy gift card?

    Yes!

    Does Berns do take out?

    No, they do not.

Is there a dress code? Can the men wear shorts?

I was just there and people were wearing shorts. I was shocked to see actually. Never used to be able to get away with things like that there.

    What's the dress code?

Anywhere from very dressy to business casual. Business casual is the most common. Enjoy.

Why is rib-eye not on the menu for one person serving?

A good question for your server. My guess is that Bern's has a minimum size it considers ideal. Consider sharing the bigger steak with a partner.

I see that the menu has been simplified. The old menu had a number of vegetarian options, including a rotating monthly entree. Can vegetarian options be ordered upon request?

Rachel B, our kitchen can still create a variety of vegetarian offerings. Please inquiry with your server and they can help guide you through the menu. Have a nice day!

Does Berns have booths in the dining room?

No I haven't seen booths. They do have private dining in the desert room but not a booth.

Do you only take reservations? Or could I take my chances and try for a table?

You can always try walking in. There is the bar area at the entrance and they serve the full menu. I was also told that sometimes they have around 100 people no show at a single night ... so it's worth by trying.

Are any of your soups vegetarian, or can they be made vegetarian?

Yes absolutely. Also try the ice cream upstairs.

    Does Berns serve prime rib?

It is a steak house, but they have fish on the menu.

When do you expect Kitchen tours to resume?

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have immediate plans for the tours to resume at this time. We hope to bring them back in the future.

    Do you have outdoor seating?

    No, it's all indoor.

Is there a mask requirement for staff? (coming in two weeks) thank you

    No mask requirement

    Do you take walk ins?

There is walk-in seating in the bar. If you arrive around 4;45 before they open at 5 you should be able to be seated in the bar.

Is there an option to eat at the bar? Do you need a reservation to eat at the bar?

no reservation for the bar, but be prepared to wait a long time - be there when they open and hope for the best. They do have another restaurant , I forgot the name and it is nearby.

How strict is dress code and what is dress code for men and women?

No jacket required for men-but would want to have a tucked in shirt and slacks/khakis. A dress is fine for women. Its not a place to rock jeans and flip flops for sure.

Are the tours back on? I'm going with a large-ish group, half of which have never been. Hoping they get to have the "full experience"

I went in May 2021 and the tours were still not available. I am not sure if this has changed since then. Hope this helps!

Is the bar area still first come first serve? I have a friend who is born and raised here and has never been! She's finally free this weekend and I'd love to take her there.

Yes, my suggestion is to get there at 4:30pm

We started with the Million Dollar Deviled Eggs, topped with crispy oysters, bacon jam and caviar. They were creative and packed with flavor. The caviar came through a little stronger than we would have preferred, but everything worked surprisingly well together. Bill put them around 3.5-4 out of 5, while Deb gave them a 3. The wine was one of the best parts of the meal. I had the Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir and loved it--fruity with a peppery edge in a really good way. Easy 4.5/5. Deb went with the Drylands Sauvignon Blanc and gave it a solid 4/5. Both wines paired nicely with the deviled eggs. For lunch, we tried the blackened grouper sandwich. The fish and smoky Old Bay rémoulade were very flavorful, and the sandwich itself earned a 4/5 for taste. The problem was the $34 price tag. It simply felt too small for that price, so we'd put the value closer to a 3. Dessert turned things around again. The mango sorbetto was cold, bright and refreshing, and the accompanying sugar cookies added a surprisingly nice contrast. At $7, it felt like a much better value. 4/5. Overall, Oak & Ola delivered some very good flavors and an excellent wine experience. We'd return, but we'd probably be a little more selective about the higher-priced entrées.

The soup portion was smaller than usual, with a significant taper toward the bottom of the cup, but the flavor more than made up for it. A strong start! The Caesar was crisp and cold, and our son devoured it in minutes. Another win; however, this was short lived. Now for the bad. My wife and I both ordered the filet; I added the truffle butter enhancement. Unfortunately, my steak was ridiculously overcooked, and the truffle butter was the only thing that salvaged the flavor. Our son's 18oz Delmonico fared no better -- his verdict: "it's ok." For sides, we ordered baked potatoes and broccolini. Hard to screw up a baked potato, so no complaints there. The broccolini, however, was dry and flavorless. I should have sent it back and asked for a substitute. As a side note, we were also served creamed corn, which we hadn't officially ordered. We'd discussed it while placing our order but ultimately decided against it. We figured our server misheard and put it in anyway. Ironically, the dish we didn't order was the best one on the table, if a bit drowning in cheese. Shortly after, an order of mushrooms arrived, which we also hadn't ordered. That's when it clicked: the creamed corn was meant for another table, and we'd been served someone else's food. We debated skipping dessert but figured we might as well get the full experience. We ordered the gelato; my wife wanted it served as an affogato. When she asked, she was met with a blank look from our server. At this price point, the server should know what an affogato is. So we ordered an espresso separately and made the affogato ourselves. Honestly, I'm not convinced what we got was gelato and not just plain ice cream -- it was freezer-burnt. Final damage for the evening: over $500 with gratuity. Absolutely ridiculous for the quality of food and service we received. To close things out, our server seemed eager to rush us off, asking if we were done with the check and whisking it away almost immediately. At least let us sit and bask in the $500 worth of regret. Bottom line: if you want a genuine modern American steakhouse experience, there are significantly better options in Tampa/St. Pete...especially at a $500 price point.

When we arrived, we were told there would be a short wait because a few tables had paid but hadn't left yet. About 15 minutes passed, but every staff member was incredibly kind throughout the process. They even came outside and brought us complimentary champagne to apologize, which immediately set the tone for the night. We hadn't even sat down yet, and they had already made us feel valued. From the moment we walked inside, the atmosphere was incredible. The energy, the ambiance, and the service exceeded every expectation I had for my first Michelin restaurant experience. Our server, Elijah, was exceptional. He was knowledgeable, intentional, and genuinely passionate about creating a great experience. Sophie also gave fantastic wine recommendations that paired perfectly with our entrées. The mozzarella cart is an absolute must. There is no reason to visit Rocca and skip it. While it was being prepared, we had the opportunity to talk with Mason about life, goals, and dreams, and it felt like talking with an old friend. Later, after mentioning how much we loved the music, Kingston came over, found out we were in town for the J. Cole concert, and played J. Cole throughout the rest of the evening. It was such a thoughtful, personal touch that made the night even more memorable. To top it off, the restaurant brought us additional complimentary bites as another apology for the initial wait, even though we already felt they had gone above and beyond. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was authentic, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Two people in our group have spent significant time in Italy, and both said it was the best Italian food they've had anywhere in America. We finished the evening with espresso, stayed until closing, and never once felt rushed. In fact, we were told they would happily stay all night if we wanted to keep enjoying ourselves. Thank you to Elijah, Sophie, Mason, Kingston, and everyone at Rocca for creating such an unforgettable evening. If I'm ever within two hours of Tampa again, I'll be coming back. God bless you all.

Not usually a fan of tomatoes but this caprese was fantastic. Agnolotti was delicious, a little spice from the sausage but well balanced with the sauce. Sphaghetti al limone was my favorite bite of the whole meal. Generous portions of crab meat with a buttery, tart kick of lemon sauce was incredible. Service was excellent as expected from a place with this reputation and pricing. Our server was very attentive and made appropriate recommendations throughout. Ambiance was dark and intimate. An upscale atmosphere without being overly stuffy. A must try for a nicer night out, we went for our anniversary dinner and had a wonderful experience. Would definitely come back here again!

We were a group of 10 and our server was excellent! The whole staff really! We sat outside and enjoyed our food+ mimosas. There was a tv out there so i know if i ever go with my husband he can watch his games (gooooo sports) while i indulge in my mimosas. I'd been studying the menu ever since my friend told me we were going. I ended up going with the avocado tartine and added smoked salmon. It was delicious and went well with a day of heavy drinking!! We also ordered the grazing board for the table which was amazing. I loved the assortment of cheeses and snacks. The butter on the board was bussinnnnn! I was in heaven!! I should mention the bottomless mimosas were $25 and the bottles literally just keep coming! Safe to say we were all feeling nice and toasty by the time we left. We hung out for a while without even getting kicked out I'd love to visit again and try more menu items. The server mentioned the cubano is the best Cuban you'll have. Now I'm always a bit skeptical bc everyone says that lol but the cubano came out looking gooooodT! I didn't try it but my friend who ordered it loved it! Parking was easy and right outside. We parked and checked in pretty quickly with ease. Thanks for the awesome service and experience! I definitely recommend adding district south kitchen & craft to your list of boozy brunch spots!

We were seated at a super small table so it made for an uncomfortable situation with so little real estate available. Also the place looks like it's converted from a garage or something with metal walls and roll up doors that made the sound bounce around. The service was nice. We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was. The food was very good though, so perhaps takeout would be more my speed. We had a nice meal and my leftovers were delicious later that evening.

No option to customize the flavors, so you're kind of stuck with whatever comes with it, even if you don't like the flavors. The mussels appetizer was good. My friend ordered the Kale Caesar salad...but it came out with spinach instead, which was a little odd. We both got the short rib for our entree and honestly... neither of us liked it. The flavor was lacking The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Pricing fits for the type of restaurant, but based on the overall experience, it didn't feel worth the high bill this time around.

The atmosphere was super festive and we were looking forward to our evening. The bartender was friendly and took our drink order. We waited an extremely long time and his excuse was he had to climb up to get a bottle of Grey Goose. After waiting so long he still forgot the one drink which we thought was what took so long, an old fashioned. The two other customers got an additional drink while we were waiting. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation, which didn't matter because there were only 2 tables of patrons. Our server in training came by and dropped off paper Christmas menus and brought us water. Then we waited and waited and finally our sever arrived. We asked for the menu and she said the only thing they had was this special Christmas menu, which was basically all appetizers. This is NOT what we planned when making reservations weeks ago. So disappointing! We ended up leaving and having dinner elsewhere.
