    Sea bass
    Triana H.

The food here is amazing and the service makes it unforgettable. The dry aged Delmonico is a must. And the sea bass was very flavorful and a good option if you didn't want to order steak. The staff is so knowledgeable, as their training is extensiveeee, so you will not be disappointed. Besides the food and service, this is truly an experience, not just a meal. From the tour of the restaurant, to the desert room, it feels like you've been transported in time. Also, no picture of it but get their apple pie!!! I'm serious, it's the best one I've ever had and my favorite dessert in Tampa overall!

I was very disappointed with the way the food taste for the price we paid. The experience overall with the tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar, and the dessert presentation was phenomenal. The food itself was not good at all. Even though the waiter insisted on a few options that we went with they were not what we expected, especially the mac & cheese. It was horrible. Grant, who was our waiter was super nice and super friendly and gave us a lot of information about the restaurant and when we did the tour that was amazing as well, but again I stressed to you the food was not great. I would not be back.

Always amazing food and service! We celebrated my son's 22nd birthday with close family. Our server was wonderful and made many suggestions to our meal. We tried a couple of different whites to accompany our meal. The kitchen tour is always informative, if you are bringing in guests make sure to schedule the tour at dinner with your server. Dessert in the dessert room upstairs was memorable, they really make you feel special.

Man I love to eat. This place allows me to do that with ease. I love it here. I seem to find myself here at least twice a year and I'm beyond blessed for it. Everytime I show up it's great and I act like it's my first time. Options are endless, every road is going to lead to a fantastic meal. Look at this picture attached. Just soak it in. That's 4 grown men having a great time. Personal steaks, shared sides, and wine for the table. Somebody print this out and put it on a wall. To Mr. Bern: Thank you. You have done too much for society. You have contributed a watering hole for all likes to enjoy. You have built a great lil home here and I can't wait to come back. That is all. Book your reservations everyone, wait the allotted sentence and enjoy when the time comes.

The Dessert Room at Bern's has an incredible ambiance, cozy, intimate, and perfect for a relaxing night out. Our server was fantastic, answering all of our questions and making the experience even more enjoyable. We loved both of the desserts we ordered, but the macadamia nut ice cream was the standout. It was unlike anything I've ever had before and is something I'm still thinking about.

Nine years since my review and Bern's still serves my favorite filet mignon in Tampa. I've been several more times and all were perfect dining experiences. I'll admit that I almost always order the same meal and have slept on their newer menu additions. Not much has changed except the lounge was renovated with a modern aesthetic. Every other room remains ornate and reminiscent of a creepy old mansion. Temps inside vary from hot/humid to comfortable to freezing cold wine cellar. If you haven't experienced the tour or the Harry Waugh dessert room, I highly recommend both.

For me, Bern's Steak House was the best steak house experience out of all the steak spots in Florida. We had zero knowledge and expectations going in, and only afterwards did we find out this place was fine dining (we were under dressed), requires 2 weeks ahead reservation (hard to get in), and offered wine cellar and back of the house (kitchen) tour. The first impression entering the restaurant was that it was packed with formally dressed people. Bern's steakhouse had second floor and a separate dessert area but in the beginning, it was chaotic with many people bustling in different directions. We were finally seated at the booth near the bar area and it was cozy. This was our first time here so we ordered some recommended cocktails, wines, appetizers, and our main entrees. The service was efficient and professional. There will definitely be a next time and when that time comes we will be skipping 2-3 appetizers because the entrees come with soup, salad, greens, and fried onion rings along with your choice of protein. The prices can be seen a bit high at first but once you see, taste, and feel after the dining experience, you will agree that the price is worth every bit. Every dish was delicious and just right, in presentation, to portion, to flavors. The appetizers definitely worked up our appetite. The soup was delicious. The salads fresh tasting with the vegetables fresh and crisp. The entrees were cooked to their perfection and they could not come out more perfect than this. The dessert area was a nice unique experience for us as well. Located upstairs and private booths, we enjoyed different items on the menu and with the live piano playing in the background, the moment was unforgettable. Bern's steakhouse offers valet parking only.

I could never say enough good things about this night! Berns is absolute perfection. We went to celebrate a friend's birthday and they did not disappoint. The staff was present and knowledgeable, the food was delicious, and the tour was informative and made me live Tampa even more! We started out in the main dining room and ended up in the dessert room for an amazing sweet experience. The restaurant provides a beautiful atmosphere to celebrate life, love and friendship!

I've lived in Tampa for the past 4 years and I finally tried out the famous Bern's to celebrate match day with my family. You have to focus on scheduling a reservation exactly 60 days in advance because they book up quickly! Huge shoutout to our server Tracy. She made our night feel special with her humor, restaurant knowledge and attentive service! We started with a bottle of prosecco to celebrate, and then the Resonance Pinot noir - delicious! In terms of food, I recommend just ordering one of their steaks since it automatically comes with French onion soup, side salad, baked potato and onion rings. We were so full by the end we're glad we didn't get any apps. The NY strip was to die for - cooked perfectly at medium rare. Onion rings were thin, crispy and perfectly seasoned. Of course couldn't forget to shoutout their French onion soup. In summary, we were happy with every aspect of our meal. Food was outstanding but the experience was even better. Highly recommend the tour of the kitchen and wine cellar after you eat with a trip up to the dessert root after. Their macadamia nut ice cream was seriously the best ice cream I've ever had. Espresso martini was bomb and the perfect after dinner drink. SO GOOD

The delicious French onion soup. Perfect portion!

What a fantastic experience at Bern's this weekend. I had heard so many amazing things about the place, but I really only did about 50% of what is probably the appropriate amount of research so... I didn't realize until the morning I planned to go that they weren't open until 5. I also had no clue that there is usually a lineup of people waiting to get in as early as 4pm. I knew we were unlikely to get into the main restaurant but didn't know how the whole lounge seating thing worked or that the valet was required (unless you somehow manage to find street parking but that's largely non-existent so... ok) Anyway, arrived right after 5pm on Saturday after lots of on and off rain - which I was also hoping might scare people away? Who was I kidding - and even getting into the valet line was a struggle but we worked it out. Our valet attendant didn't seem convinced we would be able to be seated but as luck would have it, walked in and after checking in at the welcome stand we were seated in the lounge in about 7 minutes. Success! From there, things only got better. Our lounge server was Abdul and he was PHENOMENAL. Mom ordered the filet and I got the chateaubriand tips. The soup and salad were almost enough that we didn't need the entree but that entree. Wow. The steak was worth all fuss, sides were also terrific and we scored a nice portion to take home for leftovers. This was meant to be an early Mother's Day dinner, and I expect well plan the same for next year and by that I mean actually work on getting a reservation so the whole winging it thing doesn't have to happen. 10 stars and worth the trip!

I'd give it 10 stars!! It is no wonder this restaurant is considered one of the top restaurants in the country. Just Amazing! Don't dare visit the Tampa Bay Area without making a reservation here. The Chateaubriand filet is a must try. So tender and delicious. Don't forget the mushrooms- oh so good. In addition to the steak, you have to get the wedge salad. Pay the extra! The dressing alone is so worth it. Best wedge in my entire life. Just when you think it can't get better, they escort you upstairs to the dessert room. Upwards of 50 desserts to choose from, but you will want their legendary banana foster. You are seated in these small cozy single table "rooms" created from huge wine casks )see pics). It's so warm and charming. Absolute five star service. Valet parking.

Why. Do. People. Eat. Here. We have lived in Tampa for 10 years. We went to Bern's for our wedding anniversary thinking it would be an experience and a great way to celebrate. Pros: the service is outstanding. Everyone seemed to recognize our anniversary and the customer definitely came first. The hosts at the front door and the dessert room were wonderful. Both servers were excellent, and the bartender recommended a wonderful bottle of wine. Cons: the food, the vibe, the smell, the entire decor, and again the food. As we walked in the whole restaurant smelled awful, and it was every room we walked through. The restaurant is dimly lit which is nice for dinner but gaudy doesn't even describe the decor. For dinner, we started w the truffle steak tartare which was so dry and lacking in flavor that we didn't even want to finish it. Easily the worst tartare we have had. Then we moved on to soups. My husband had the French onion which he described as "decent" I had the lobster bisque which had a great broth but an unnecessary clump of bacon in the middle. The Caesar salad was actually inedible. Soggy brown lettuce drowning in a dressing that tasted like Italian and Caesar dressing mixed together. Shocking considering a decent salad is a pretty easy mark. The only redeeming quality of the entire meal was the Wagyu tomahawk. It was well seasoned and prepared correctly, but certainly not the best steak I've had in Tampa. After dinner we went up to the infamous dessert room which again had great service but lackluster everything else. The piano player which is the niche experience-played maybe 3 songs the entire time and the vintage chocolate "lush" sundae was basically just a super dry brownie w vanilla ice cream. I will reiterate the service was out of this world but the food was less than mediocre. There are so many better restaurants in Tampa I cannot see the appeal of eating here at all.

    Trio Trilogy of Classics

The banana and cheesecake were our favorite- the carrot cake a little dense- but the ice cream was very good.

Do they take contactless payment, like apply pay?

    Yes

    Buy gift card?

    Yes!

    Does Berns do take out?

    No, they do not.

Is there a dress code? Can the men wear shorts?

I was just there and people were wearing shorts. I was shocked to see actually. Never used to be able to get away with things like that there.

    What's the dress code?

Anywhere from very dressy to business casual. Business casual is the most common. Enjoy.

Why is rib-eye not on the menu for one person serving?

A good question for your server. My guess is that Bern's has a minimum size it considers ideal. Consider sharing the bigger steak with a partner.

I see that the menu has been simplified. The old menu had a number of vegetarian options, including a rotating monthly entree. Can vegetarian options be ordered upon request?

Rachel B, our kitchen can still create a variety of vegetarian offerings. Please inquiry with your server and they can help guide you through the menu. Have a nice day!

Does Berns have booths in the dining room?

No I haven't seen booths. They do have private dining in the desert room but not a booth.

Do you only take reservations? Or could I take my chances and try for a table?

You can always try walking in. There is the bar area at the entrance and they serve the full menu. I was also told that sometimes they have around 100 people no show at a single night ... so it's worth by trying.

Are any of your soups vegetarian, or can they be made vegetarian?

Yes absolutely. Also try the ice cream upstairs.

    Does Berns serve prime rib?

It is a steak house, but they have fish on the menu.

When do you expect Kitchen tours to resume?

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have immediate plans for the tours to resume at this time. We hope to bring them back in the future.

    Do you have outdoor seating?

    No, it's all indoor.

Is there a mask requirement for staff? (coming in two weeks) thank you

    No mask requirement

    Do you take walk ins?

There is walk-in seating in the bar. If you arrive around 4;45 before they open at 5 you should be able to be seated in the bar.

Is there an option to eat at the bar? Do you need a reservation to eat at the bar?

no reservation for the bar, but be prepared to wait a long time - be there when they open and hope for the best. They do have another restaurant , I forgot the name and it is nearby.

How strict is dress code and what is dress code for men and women?

No jacket required for men-but would want to have a tucked in shirt and slacks/khakis. A dress is fine for women. Its not a place to rock jeans and flip flops for sure.

Are the tours back on? I'm going with a large-ish group, half of which have never been. Hoping they get to have the "full experience"

I went in May 2021 and the tours were still not available. I am not sure if this has changed since then. Hope this helps!

Is the bar area still first come first serve? I have a friend who is born and raised here and has never been! She's finally free this weekend and I'd love to take her there.

Yes, my suggestion is to get there at 4:30pm

The area surrounding the restaurant is beautiful and makes for a great place to walk around and explore. Once inside, the atmosphere is just as impressive, and thankfully the food, drinks, and service live up to the hype. My dad and I started with the Gator Tail appetizer. Neither of us had ever tried alligator before, so we were really curious to see what it was like. Turns out, we loved it! It tastes surprisingly similar to chicken and was a fun way to try something new. For our mains, my dad ordered their famous Meatloaf, and after trying a bite, we completely understand why it's one of their signature dishes. It was excellent. I went with Barry's Tomahawk Pork Chop, and it was outstanding. The pork was cooked perfectly; juicy, tender, and not dry whatsoever. The real star, though, was the guava demi-glace, which added such a unique and delicious flavour to the dish. The beer selection was great too. I especially enjoyed the Wedding Beer Berry Lager, which was refreshing and packed with flavour. We also saved room for dessert. We tried the Candied Maple Bacon Ice Cream and the Bourbon Butter Cake. The ice cream wasn't really my favourite; I thought the cornflakes were a bit of a strange addition, but my dad enjoyed it. The Bourbon Butter Cake, on the other hand, was delicious and a great way to finish off the meal. Between the beautiful setting, excellent food, great drinks, and friendly service, it's easy to see why Ulele is such a popular Tampa destination. Rocca continues to be solid, if not spectacular. Two things I think hold it back; first, value. The prices feel too high relative to the portion/tastiness. A great comparison restaurant to Rocca would be Rezdora in Manhattan. I would put Rezdora a few rungs above Rocca in quality/flavor (it's one of the top 100 restaurants in NYC per the NY Times and has a Michelin star, very different than landing one in Tampa) yet the prices at Rocca are effectively the same (each have a traditional ragu at $28). You also don't have to look as far as Manhattan. Just across the bay is Elliott Aster who I think delivers more delicious food, in heartier portions, at a better price point. Given Rocca is perpetually fully-booked, Tampa is obviously okay with their prices, so I suppose 'don't hate the player' (you can't begrudge anyone from charging what they can in this restaurant environment), but for me the value isn't there. Second - I think the inside could use some work. Looking at Eliott Aster, Predalina, or Ponte you can see an example of more elevated interior design. I think Rocca comes off more kitschy than 'homey'.

We were a group of 10 and our server was excellent! The whole staff really! We sat outside and enjoyed our food+ mimosas. There was a tv out there so i know if i ever go with my husband he can watch his games (gooooo sports) while i indulge in my mimosas. I'd been studying the menu ever since my friend told me we were going. I ended up going with the avocado tartine and added smoked salmon. It was delicious and went well with a day of heavy drinking!! We also ordered the grazing board for the table which was amazing. I loved the assortment of cheeses and snacks. The butter on the board was bussinnnnn! I was in heaven!! I should mention the bottomless mimosas were $25 and the bottles literally just keep coming! Safe to say we were all feeling nice and toasty by the time we left. We hung out for a while without even getting kicked out I'd love to visit again and try more menu items. The server mentioned the cubano is the best Cuban you'll have. Now I'm always a bit skeptical bc everyone says that lol but the cubano came out looking gooooodT! I didn't try it but my friend who ordered it loved it! Parking was easy and right outside. We parked and checked in pretty quickly with ease. Thanks for the awesome service and experience! I definitely recommend adding district south kitchen & craft to your list of boozy brunch spots!

Focaccia bread with some sorta meat baked on top and grouper breaded in coconut, heck yeahhhh. Both great, fun choices that were great. Down to the meal itself. I had prime rib sammich and then my friend got the grits with braised pork. Super excited for it and it was good. But I wouldn't go past good? I'm not sure. It was one of those ones where I for sure ate it all, I did like it but I was not wow'd. With the apps, they were outfitted with great sauce choices. Look at those plates. Two different sauces per plate. So in my mind, that means they most likely make their own ranch, honey mustard, etc. how exciting?! I ordered a ranch for my friend and I, hoping that it would be homemade and blow my doors off. Ranch came, paired great with the fires but then they charged me $2.75?! Yooo, did me dirty, I can't lie. All in all, I liked it here. I just don't know if I'll hurry back. Also, for two apps, 3 entries, was kinda expansive. Idk maybe I'm just complaining. We are in Tampa, I just didn't feel great looking at the bill.

We were seated at a super small table so it made for an uncomfortable situation with so little real estate available. Also the place looks like it's converted from a garage or something with metal walls and roll up doors that made the sound bounce around. The service was nice. We were well taken care of but they seemed to be spread thin because getting refills and getting our check took a bit longer than expected. One ssue was that the menu was very different from what was online via Google. I should have gone to their website I guess, but several items were not available and the filet I was so excited for had a very different set of items. No Brie au gratin potatoes or braised rainbow chard, citrus gremolata and a fig chutney. Now, let me say that my filet was delicious. I loved the sauce and the asparagus was good but for me, the potatoes were super underwhelming. A nice sauce or something would have made them better. They just tasted bland, were really dry and lacked any flavor. My wife expected the lamb or pork chops, they were both not on the menu. She got fish and chips which she really enjoyed, so it was a win. The Asian wings were our appetizer and were delightful too. Now the only real negative for us was the noise. We got there at 5:30 and it was fine. But as more people came in, the sound bounced around so bad that it became almost unbearable for me. I wanted to go so bad because people laughing and talking made my head hurt. Would I go back? Probably not. I didn't enjoy how loud it was. The food was very good though, so perhaps takeout would be more my speed. We had a nice meal and my leftovers were delicious later that evening.

The atmosphere was super festive and we were looking forward to our evening. The bartender was friendly and took our drink order. We waited an extremely long time and his excuse was he had to climb up to get a bottle of Grey Goose. After waiting so long he still forgot the one drink which we thought was what took so long, an old fashioned. The two other customers got an additional drink while we were waiting. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation, which didn't matter because there were only 2 tables of patrons. Our server in training came by and dropped off paper Christmas menus and brought us water. Then we waited and waited and finally our sever arrived. We asked for the menu and she said the only thing they had was this special Christmas menu, which was basically all appetizers. This is NOT what we planned when making reservations weeks ago. So disappointing! We ended up leaving and having dinner elsewhere.

First we could not hear each other from all the silverware clashing and second throughout our dinner 3 times glasses were shattered at the station. The third time we were concerned, a little piece of glass had fallen in our food. The server and the manager were nice but the manager seemed to think that the solution was for the servers to slow down. That doesn't make sense to me but ok. They did remake a plate to go for us, so that was nice. The food was a little meh to me. The short ribs could have used some salt or seasoning before making the ravioli's (same with the chicken parm) just a suggestion. Pasta tasted undercooked and as if it was box pasta. I've lived in nyc and have had some really good Italian food there so I'm a little critical. I think Olivia is a little more hype and a nice ambiance for being in south Tampa than good food.

We originally planned on bringing some family here for their anniversary but that plan feel through so we made it into a friends catch up dinner. Right off the back LOVED our server Nimah. She was funny, helpful, and attentive. And they are on top of refilling your water so you will never go thirsty. I'm not much of a drinker, so I don't have much to say on that matter. The ambiance was nice. A lot of eclectic paintings on the walls. And loved the outfits of the servers. Very 20's speakeasy. There is a live jazz band that started performing at 7 pm. They were good but at some points it was a bit difficult to speak and listen to those at your table unless you got really close. My meal hit the spot. We started with a charcuterie board for the table. It had a lot of great options like dried apricots, actual honeycomb pieces, and my most favorite cheese, some Brie cheese. The only thing was there was only 4 pieces of bread, one for each of us, which wasn't enough but I guess it made sense not to fill us up too much. For my main meal I had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty and the sweet potato risotto, which a little spicy kick. The only thing I missed was the Brussels sprouts and potatoes but was told that was from the previous chef. But they serve you enough so you definitely will have left overs. Not a big fan of eating in the lounge areas, those are best just for drinks and maybe desserts. But it's definitely a great place to people watch. You will definitely have a meal and a show no matter what. Hopefully can schedule another time to bring my family because I know they would love it.
