Terrific experience this afternoon. Finally tried it after hearing so much about it and all the different beers. All I can say is...WOW. You can try a taste of a beer before ordering. I had a blueberry one and a peach one. Tried a chocolate one but I'll order that next time (I'm a lightweight LOL). The food we had was very good. For appetizer we had goat cheese and arugula flatbread. We then had a turkey Reuben and a pulled pork. Our server Judy was the best. Definitely going back. read more

I first came here for a beer tasting which had the most incredible dinner. I have since gone back and found the beer selection top notch but pricey. The food was typical pub fare. I would suggest to include some of the more creative dishes from the tastings, perhaps as specials. The rack of lamb I had that night with Cumberland sauce is the stuff that dreams are made of. Maloney's Pub and Grill in Matawan, New Jersey is one restaurant that makes the quiet area worth a visit with it's good food, friendly staff, and great presentation. The first thing you'll find when you walk into the restaurant is a gentle overload of senses-- the noise of many or not many customers (based on the time of day you come), the quiet music playing in the background, and the smell of sizzling, smoky food. The tables and decor are stainless and clean. Nothing is too loud nor too quiet, and it makes for a peaceful entrance, exit, and stay. In the front of Maloney's pub, there always stands a woman or man, ready to seat you. Unlike hosts from other restaurants, these people are not afraid to make you at home; striking up friendly conversation even on busy days and nights, always wearing a smile on their faces. They'll make you want to stay. After the inviting hosts bring you to your seat, you'll soon meet your waiter. The waiters, like the hosts, do their best to make you feel comfortable. But they get to the point. Once you order your food, they zoom off, getting it prepared. The service at Maloney's is quick-- you won't have to wait a few hours to get your food. The food itself is great. The portions are large and filling, and the food has a natural and delicious mix of savory and sweet. It isn't hard to tell from a first glance that the food isn't super fancy, yet it doesn't seem unprofessional either. The food is almost always served warm and fresh. The selection isn't the largest, but it doesn't lack anything. It has the essentials for a pub: burgers, steak, kids menu. All courses on the menu compliment each other well, the menu descriptions are sharp and accurate, and the waiters and cooks are okay with ordering off the menu. However, the food is pretty expensive. The cheapest thing on the menu, the Soup of the Day may not seem that bad at $6, but the prices get higher and higher to the Maloney's Style Steak, at $27. If you're looking for a good beer selection than this is the place to go. I've been here numerous times and they always have a fresh selection of beers with rotating seasonals. In fairness, I must post that after my my 3 star review of Maloney's (save the poor service experienced) they contacted me out of a genuine concern to improve. While I do respect and appreciate the willingness to act on Yelp feedback I won't comply with requests to elaborate on the specifics of "who and when" as was asked of me..."just do it better all around and you'll fix it" is the answer. Love this place! Try to get all my friends and family from out of town to try it. Extensive selection of local and craft brews, plus imports. Food is always good albeit slow. But just enjoy a fine beer while waiting :) read more

If you're looking for a great drink and meal, Maloney's is the place to go! Here you'll find an extensive, and just as important, quality selection of over a hundred beers on tap. There are beers on tap that are virtually impossible to find at restaurants or in liquor stores. (For me it's been Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA, Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine.) Even if you or someone else is not a beer person, I recently went with a friend who's the same way and really enjoyed a cider. We were able to sample quite a few beers but got the impression that may not be the case when it gets really busy. In addition to the beer, the menu has food a cut above regular bar options that are fantastic. Each time I've gone, I've gotten the brie appetizer and Maloney burger with bacon, cheese, and horseradish mayo on and English muffin and it was delicious! It's clear that quality ingredients are used and the preparation is well executed. I didn't go here for the food but it definitely keeps me coming back! I would recommend Maloney's to anyone! Have been here 4 or 5 times over the past year. Food is great, the seating area comfortable, and the bar looks like a good place to hang out. My main grip is service in the seating area: each time I've been here, once seated, I've had to wait 5-10 minutes either a) for menus or b) the waiter/waitress to make their first visit. I'm not sure why this is, but it's understandably annoying. Food can also be a little slow coming out of the kitchen, but nothing we couldn't deal with. read more

The beer selection is amazing if you are not a fan of "bud" this is the place for you. Real beer from all over the country and world. The list of bottled and tap beer will not be found anywhere else in these parts. The bartenders are great and know their beer. The crowd is pretty local, but still friendly to newbies. This was our second time at Maloney's..first the hostess told us there were no booths available but wen my husband went to use the men's room there clearly were empty booths ..I guess they were reserved ..second our table was disgustingly dirty and sticky ..third our drinks came out wrong and flat..the waitress said something about the soda guns ..and finally my food was completely burnt and fries were terribly over cooked ..apps were ok so that was the only plus ..deff won't be back ! read more

Was at Malony's only for my 2nd time and the let me tell you this. The bartender Jane is the best!! I was only there another time for 2hrs tops and this bartender remembered my name and occupation. OUTSTaNDInG!! I wish the world had more bartenders like her!! As well as remembering my name she was able to point me in the direction of beers that I would enjoy!! She asks all the appropriate questions and is never wrong when it comes to a beer I'll enjoy! Then they food was also quality!! This place gets 5 stars for what it is and what it isn't. It IS- a craft beer bar. Eclectic and vast list of both local and widely accepted legit craft beers and ciders. They sometimes come in fancy glasses and the pours can be smaller than your average lager because- well, drink 4 of them and tell me how you're feeling. They also have a full bar (liquor) but if you're looking for a bud light- sorry my friend, it's not happening. It is NOT- a cheap dive bar. There are plenty around so don't you worry if that's your bag. Food is overall delicious with huge portions (that can be a plus and a negative depending on your caloric needs). The bistro mussels and Asian wings are their best apps. Order the tots with cheese on the side, you'll thank me later. Salads are really good as well (Caesar with blacked shrimp is my fave). Check weekly specials, too. Some gems up there on the chalkboard. Lil pricey- but again, you're taking half your meal home or you're soaking up the 9% abv you're sipping from your fancy glass. Most bartenders are on point, especially during busy times. As a fairly new resident of the area I'm really glad Maloney's is a staple, hopefully surrounding businesses can build off its success. read more

This hidden gem is the place to be if you want quality food and drink. I was amazed at how many beers were on tap and how often they add new choices. If you just want to enjoy a burger with your craft beer, they are the best in New Jersey. Fresh, juicy and never frozen meat. Don't let me get started on the fries, go check them out for yourself, you won't be sorry. They serve anything from finger foods to quality steaks and seafood which are all top notch. I totally stumbled across this place totally by chance. Central NJ really has no outstanding bars and my husband is a huge fan of Belgian Ales and Sours, and I am a Saison fan, so I thought it would be fun to go for a meal and a drink. It's on the main drag in Matawan-we parked on the street across from it, from the outside it is very nondescript. Once inside, it is cool, dark, large planked wooden floors, big open windows, long bar with a zillion taps, pleasant chill music in the background. There were a few tables filled with people but the place is so spacious you didn't really hear anything. The waiter was really nice and very knowledgeable. He did let us sample some beers before we ordered - but shot glass size since the beer is precious... The beer list is huge-lots of belgians and sours, it was really hard to decide, especially since everything is on tap and you want to try it all. I did want to order a Saison Farmhouse Dupont, but they were out....We ordered the buffalo chicken flatbread as an app, it was quite fresh and delicious. We decided to go for 3 Maloney burgers, which were really good, very fresh and quite huge, and the potato wedges were really fresh-they seemed like big wedges of fresh potato. The beer prices are high, but it is too be expected - the prices would be higher in NYC, the food prices are reasonable. For 3 burgers, an app, a soda for my teenage son and 4 ales we spent about $95 - the beer is what gets ya. We really enjoyed ourselves and plan to go back. read more

This is our favorite go to place! We've never had a bad experience here. Service is always friendly and accommodating. The wait staff is always very knowledgeable about the beer selection. If you're overwhelmed by the very long and impressive menu, they will make great recommendations and even give you samples so you will be happy with your choice. The food is always on point, and they somehow make even the most basic food staples taste delicious, fresh and new. They are very accommodating to private parties and large groups and will go out of their way to make the event perfect.
